Fantastisk Sted At Gå Ned I København! SITREP If you don't read Danish, that's my excited utterance of "Great Place To Crash In Copenhagen!" And a shout out to my yelpie Bridget W. and my trippy Mette for both cluing me onto this veritable hostel paradise! THE SETUP So what happened is on my flight out of Stockholm, Sweden, I ended up with a one (1) day layover in Copenhagen before going on to San Francisco. Now, this was PLANNED - I knew I had the layover: it was either this or pay $400 more for the next least expensive round trip between San Francisco and Stockholm (and back). As it turned out, I was already spending 10 days in the Baltic States with friends, hitting Sweden, Estonia, Russia and Finland. Unfortunately, there was no time in that itinerary to hit Denmark (nor Norway, for that matter, though technically, although also part of "Scandinavia", Norway is not a Baltic state). So an extra stop on the return leg in Copenhagen for a full day presented itself to me and I was happy to take it. DOWNTOWN DISTRICT AND CLOSE TO AIRPORT As soon as I jetted back into Copenhagen Airport (my 2nd time here in addition to my 1st two (2) hour layover in this airport on way to Stockholm), I jumped into the rail-car at the adjacent train station. Not more than 12 mins, I was at the downtown Central Train Station, and only a block and a half from Urban House! I pulled the trigger on a SINGLE room with a bathroom for only $94.71/night. Easily just a third of the cost of even the more "moderately" priced hotels in Downtown Copenhagen, near the airport. And most of the time I would be on a walk-a-bout and not in the room anyways, so I didn't want to waste my money there. The room didn't have a TV anyways - entertainment was outside of the room. ENTERTAINMENT! ..and speaking of entertainment, Urban House had a full-on bar / cafe / "Student Union"-feel open area at street level. In fact, the guy serving beers, took a quick break so he could check me in. The gal that was serving breakfast the next day was the one who checked me out: as it turns out, a good consolidation of tasks combined in their multi-talented staff. I ventured out in the afternoon and evening (twice actually) to grab some excellent Thai food back in the Train Station. And then again to a bar a few blocks away that was hosting a Jazz festival. There was plenty to do, places to eat, immerse oneself into the night life, all within blocks of Urban House. No car needed. THE ROOM As mentioned no TV, but that was not missed. Nothing fancy. Simple food consisting mainly of burgers and fries. By default these are cooked medium, so make sure you ask for it well done if you like your burger cooked properly. The fries however are excellent. A good, thick cut and cooked crispy enough while still maintaining a soft bite. Staff are fluent in English, so are good with many tourists. Although on my second visit they were helpful but not overtly friendly. read more

You get your money's worth at UH! It has everything. Self-express check-in, never seen it. Very efficient. The rooms are spacey. The lockers are big. They have female dorms if you prefer. Everything spotless, including the bathroom. The bed is comfy and i slept well. (Only weird thing is you have to make your own bed upon arrival, I clouding undersheets) The hostel has a self-serve kitchen equipped with everything you need. Very spacious 2 electric stoves, 2 sinks. 3 refrigerators. You can label your things with labels provided. There's a dining room, a living room, a game room with a pool table and foosball), a silent room with bean bags on the floors (my favorite! I totally passed out here), a laundry room, a bar-restaurant. Breakfast is included. There's a 24-hr supermarket down the street. It's a 5-10 min walk to the central station. Bike rentals on every other corner. Really convenient. Would highly recommend! read more

What a terrible place! Booked a 2 night stay here and the experience was pretty awful! I came in at 12noon to try and check-in only to be told that there's no beds available until 3pm. They told me they can't keep my bag and that I would have to put it into one of those paid lockers if I want to leave the bag at the hotel while I visit the sites. Well, the locker is TINY so it only fits a small backpack, 1 of the machines was broken so I wasted a lot of time on that. For 5 hours it charged me $9usd what a total F# ripoff, only to finally check in and find out that the room had plenty of free beds and only 2 out of the 8 beds in the room was occupied the night before! So basically the hostel forced me to pay for a locker so they can make more $$$$! What a scam! It gets worse! Tried to take a shower only to find out the drain is completely clogged and after a quick shower I was ankle deep in dirty water which flooded the entire bathroom and other people can't even use the toilet without having to trot into the dirty water! They are also nazis about the hair dryer, you have to exchange an ID for a hairdryer. Wtf! You expect me to walk all the way from one corner of the building down flights of stairs to the office with wet hair and a towel on to exchange for a hairdryer??? Why don't you just nail a hair dryer on the wall if you are afraid people will take them? Oh not to mention that you have to make your own bed, they are soooo lazy they just leave the sheets on the bed. I've traveled to over 50 countries and stayed at a gazillion hostels and never encountered making your own bed crap ever! In addition, the hostel rents out bikes for twice what I paid for my bike rental elsewhere. Once again rip off! Terrible service, dirty place, trying to rip people off every chance they get!!! Super convenient, very large but somewhat impersonal. You could literally come stay here and not talk to a single soul as long as you had access to your booking information! Check in is sent to your email or texted to you, making it a breeze once you check in at 3. This makes it a bit difficult to get settled in. Check out is at 11, and takes absolutely nothing on your end to check out (seriously, you don't have to talk to anyone-- you just leave your room.) It's been awhile since I stayed here and they were bought out awhile back, but it was a decent place to stay. Room was small but expected for a historic building. Noisy due to the amount of travelers, and mixed company (of all ages.) Laundry is downstairs with not enough w/d for the entire place-- always crowded. Gigantic kitchen so that's a plus. Bar food was eh but doable for a late night. Probably would t stay here again unless I really needed to, but it is in a super convenient location and close to everything. read more

Urban House is a newly refurbished, self-serviced, design hostel with a large bar / social area on the ground floor. Stayed for 3 nights and the price is really cheap for a private ensuite in Copenhagen. Its a quick walk from the central station and very close to Tivoli, Strøget, and Vesterbro. The hostel: don't even need to check-in - you'll receive the door code and room number in the email and in you go! it's super convenient and check-out time is 12pm. They clean your room every 3 days if you are staying for a longer period of time. The room is simple and a good size. It includes a sizable bathroom with heated floors. There is soap in the shower and towels are provided. Bed was comfortable enough. Didnt watch TV but international travelers: you can charge your USB device on the tv to avoid buying an adapter! One device only though. It does feel like everything was rushed to completion, but it is a hostel right? Wifi: Room was on the first floor and WIFI was basically unusable. Would recommend going to the bar or social / game area. The bar: definitely looks like they spend most of their money on the first floor. The place was busy on the weekend, needed to wait at least 15 min to get served. There was a DJ spinning some disco & house music on Sat. I tried two of their house cocktails, which were not mixed very well but still tasty! The beer selection was okay but they might run out near the end of the night. read more

I stayed in Urban House recently (whereas before I only had drinks here) and absolutely loved it! It's 5 minutes from the central station in the Vesterbro area with lots of great coffee shops around. The Tivoli is also just 5 minutes up the road. Okay, maybe 6. The check in easy and 'contactless'. When you arrive, you register your name on one of the pcs in the lobby and you get a code for the door for your room. That's it, easy peasy. The rooms are basic, very clean with private en-suite and the beds are comfy. If you stay in the summer, bring a little fan as it gets quite hot and stuffy. There are small lockers (bring your own lock) and space under the bed for bigger luggage. The Urban House has lots of cool stuff everywhere and it's bigger than it first looks: there's free wifi everywhere, a beer garden out the back, a big bar area with reasonably priced cocktails and beers and entertainment like live music on most nights. They have a cinema room, games area, quiet chilling area with bean bags, phone charging areas everywhere, a massive kitchen and an app which lets you connect with other guests and share your pictures etc. The atmosphere is very social and I would definitely stay here again. read more

I am giving the Urban House four stars but lets be very clear here...this is not a four star hotel, it is an upscale hostel and as such it does that very well. The rooms were clean, the staff friendly and the lobby had a vibe, let's call it "College Dorm like". Morning, noon and night, the lobby was busy, whether it be the bar, the "cinema" or any of the various sitting areas. There is a self help kitchen (never used it) but it looked good. Check in was a breeze as I received an email a few hours before I checked in with my passcode which opened the door to my floor and to my room. The room was decently sized - we had a bunkalow (double bed and a bunk bed) with one toilet room with a sink and another shower room with a sink. Windows opened onto a courtyard below with nothing to see but we were not meant to spend time in the room regardless. By the time we got back to the room each night, we went right to sleep. There was a small shelf above the bed to store small items on and a bench and a chair but otherwise there was only a set of lockers on one wall. Suitcases fit under the bunk bed to keep enough walking around room. A couple of issues - no shower curtain. As a result the water tended to spray out of the shower and cover the floor - better to pick up the floor mat before taking a shower and then put it down after the shower was over but as the housekeepers only come every third day, you need to keep picking it up again. Not a big deal if you remember this is essentially a hostel and not a true hotel. Second issue, from time the time the bathrooms seemed to smell of sulfur - you know, that wonderful rotten egg aroma. This seemed to emanate from the pipes. Not sure what the Urban House can do to correct this but we would just keep the doors open to the bathrooms when we weren't using them and keep a window open so the odor would eventually dissipate. On the last day, I tried one of their hot dogs - you can choose pork, pork & cheese, beef or veggie and the toppings made them really unique. I had a "Far East Beast" with peanuts, cilantro, green onions and teriyaki sauce. Very cool. Oh, one more thing, walk out the door to the left down the street and turn right on the second block. A couple of really nice restaurants including a coffee shop Risteriet Halmtorvet. The breakfast plate is really reasonable with great bread, danish, yogurt and great coffee. I am writing a separate review of this place. If you want basic clean accommodations in Copenhagen, the Urban House is a great choice. read more

A few others have commented it is dodgy and in a bad neighborhood, ... I agree. I had a bag stolen from the hostel. I keep my private items locked. If I weren't more careful they could of gotten away with more personal documents (my passport). The service in here is also rather insulting. Staff with pat you on the head, call you buddy. Just absolutely disrespectful. The price is also about double of the hostels in Copenhagen. They are getting by on being close to the train station. Right, I also agree with the locker and check-in situation. A bit hard to plan on. You have to wait until 3PM and there is no luggage room which is common for hostels in Europe and Copenhagen so you end up paying much more for storage. I could look past a lot but not rude, rude service. Nothing special. Go elsewhere. read more

Very fast check in. On the left side to the reception there are some check in area that reminds me of the automatic check in at the airport. You print out your door code and your room is keyless. Comfortable room and pictures from the homepage are very similar. Nice and clean. Breakfast could be a bit better though. read more

This hostel is HUGE. It's only a 2 minute walk from Central Station and close to everything. If you're into socializing, this place is for you. There are a lot of events during the week like open mic night and salsa night. There's also Happy Hour every day from 7pm to 9pm with specials on shots, beer, and mixed drinks. 10 shots for 125DKK and 2-for-1 mixed drinks (I got Absolut Vodka & cranberry juice.) There's a kitchen you can use to cook but it does close early. Each room has ensuite bathroom with either shower or tubs. I preferred the shower. The lighting in the bathrooms could be better but no big deal. You also get a free storage locker in the room, you just need a lock. Over all, good hostel. I liked it better my second time here when I was with friends. read more

THE GOOD: -Located less than 5 minutes walking from the train station. -Impressive kitchen (not like I used it or anything). -Access codes means no key deposit and no extra item to lug around and worry about losing. The okay: -The rooms were clean and the sheets/free towel were actually pretty nice. There's an ensuite bathroom with a decent shower. -Wifi throughout but can slow down at night when everyone is back and uploading photos. -Lots of common areas but the place is so big that I didn't find people very social. Just to be clear, this is a pretty trending hostel, so take this fact into consideration when you see this hotel/hostel popping in your search. We just need an one-nighter pre-cruise and our train got to Central Station at 1030pm, so this one was pretty convenient in terms of location, just make sure you exit the station from the correct side to avoid unnecessary walking around. Provided passport info etc online prior to the arrival and got the door code by 3pm as advertised. Their check in/out can be done purely by yourself. You just unlock the door with the code, and leave the room by 11am next morning, you don't necessarily need to go to the front desk, as a matter of fact, they do not have a front desk specifically for the hostel, it's comboed for the bar on the ground floor. Since the family was travelling together, I booked a room with private bathroom. And my guess was because of the world cup qualifier game, all the hotels in Copenhagen on that day was sky rocketed in terms of price. Even for this hostel, I was paying $130 after tax/fee just for a tiny room. I mean it was even considered small by Manhattan standard, LOL. Room was clean and minimalist. Two single beds put together as a double, a writing desk and a chair, that's it, no TV, no phone, not even a pen. A shower in the bathroom and a toilet bowl with sink, plus towel, nothing extra. No AC, no fan, and the window was facing the busy street, gladly we were entirely exhausted and did not get bothered even a tiny bit by the noise downstair. As I mentioned, it was a bar setting on the ground floor, when we arrived at 1030pm, it was still much alive. It could be the most inexpensive option if you just need a room to crash (even for family), despite the fact that Copenhagen in general is crazily expensive. read more

I came here with my sons for two days. We came to Copenhagen late at night, they had a salsa night downstairs which concerned me but when we got to our room, I didn't hear a sound! It was wonderful! We had bunkbeds which made me kids happy because it meant they could each sleep on the top bunk. I love that we had a private bathroom. I love the convenience of the laundry and having the choice to either use the self-service or order from the bar. Everyone was helpful and the place was very clean. And I loved the free WiFi! The breakfast in the morning was not bad, it was 75 DK which converted to about $30 for myself and two kids, so it was pricey. It was close to the Central Station which is the only way you can get to the Metro. Overall, we had a great experience. read more

Was called out to have a negative vibe as i asked if they could provide me with non-plastic cutlery. Im in shock with all the plastic and the horrible argumentations from one of the staff here regarding recycling and the expences of hiring more staff to do the dished. Seeing this as a global problem, that is just wrong. The hotel gives an impression of being hip and urban, so we had higher hopes regarding their values. Breakfast was boring, rooms are okay, staff is nice but needs to educate themselves on this matter and pull the strings for making a change. read more

Let me preface this review by saying that my experience wasn't the most amazing experience at a hostel nor was it the worst. The hostel is centrally located a few blocks from the main train station (the one you need to get to from the airport- about a 15-20 minute train ride). While walking from the train station to the hostel, you will pass by several strip clubs, adult video stores, etc. This didn't really bother me, but it may be disconcerting for some people. Also, you're pretty much at least a 15-20 minute walk to the main tourist attractions- and about 30 minutes walking to The Little Mermaid Statue and 10 minutes walking distance to Tivoli. But, I only stayed in Copenhagen for 2 days, so it wasn't really an issue for me staying a bit further away from the main attractions. The hostel itself is well decorated and a new experience for me. It's a huge hostel with hundreds of rooms and lots of shared common space. The entire experience was impersonal as you check-in at a kiosk using a confirmation number that you receive the evening prior. Once you get your pass codes to access the floor and room, you are entirely on your own to explore the facilities and the city- somewhat of a pretty seamless check-in process. However, there are people who work at the on-site cafe available to answer any questions. For example, I initially reserved a bottom bunk, but was assigned a top bunk. I went downstairs to speak to someone and they happily assisted me with the room change. They were also able to provide a map of the city. Aside from that, I found that the sheer size of the hostel being overwhelming and difficult to meet other people in the hostel. During my two-day stay, there wasn't anyone in my room who stayed there longer than a day. I would say this hostel is extremely transient- some people who will stay there for 1 night and leave the next morning. The price was also affordable compared to what was available in Copenhagen. I stayed in a 6-person mixed dorm/private bathroom for 2 nights for a total of 476.10 DKK ($76-$77 USD). The room and bathroom was clean and there are private lockers for smaller valuables- you just have to bring your own lock. The one thing I wished they had- which they may have had, but didn't see any of- were shared bathrooms/showers on the floor. I only encountered this once where I had to wait for a roommate to finish showering before I could get ready (but, I was only there for 2 nights). It would have been nice to have the option to use another shower on the floor. The facilities in general were nice. They have an on-site cafe that provides breakfast (for a charge), as well as drinks, alcohol, and sandwiches. The WIFI worked well and you can print your boarding pass for free. Overall, I thought the experience was good, and if I were ever back in Copenhagen, I would choose to stay here based on cleanliness, location, and price. read more

What a gem! I've never stayed at a hostel before and was quite awry of the concept. However, our 5 girlfriends needed a place to crash on our layover in Copenhagen and heard great reviews. They were right! Very clean, professional and organized. Check in was very easy. Our rooms were great. Bathroom rocked. We had no plans and had a great time having our first beer at the bar and garden. The bartenders mapped out our day for us and sent us in the right direction to Nyhavn and Paper Island. It was such a great experience and I recommend this place to everyone. Great ambience and lively atmosphere to mingle as well!! read more

We stayed for 4 nights at the end of March and it was great! It was my first time staying in a hostel and it definitely made my trip more fun! It was a great atmosphere with good food and drinks. There is also a large kitchen where you can cook and store your own food. There was a pool table, foosball table, board games and plenty of books to read for entertainment. There were a few complications when we were there because it had just opened. Check in was a little long because the computer had double booked for the weekend but everything was resolved. Our room wasn't cleaned after the third day but as soon as we asked for new towels they were provided. The staff seemed like they were still getting familiarized with everything. They were all extremely friendly and went out of their way to help us. One of us had an ear infection and one of the girls found us a doctor and made an appointment for us. Overall we had a great time and I will definitely be coming back in the future! read more

Great location? Yes. Easy access to the main station? Yes. Cleanliness? Not that bad. Professional and helpful staffs at the reception? NO. Responsible management? NO. Big time. Me and my friends were on vacation to Copenhagen and stayed at Urban House for 3 nights from 3-6 January 2017. I had my wallet stolen at around 8.30 pm on January 3rd when I was cooking at the hostel's kitchen and dining space. I put my perfectly zipped backpack with my wallet in it on the chair in front of my friend so that she could keep an eye on it, then I went to cook. We had dinner and we went upstairs to our room. When I checked my bag, the wallet wasn't there. I panicked, as I had just exchanged my euros into Danish kronos earlier that day and I hadn't use it at all. We searched all over the room and we couldn't find it. I freaked out, went to the hostel reception and ask the staff to show the CCTV tape for 8.30-9 pm. It was around midnight when I realized my wallet was missing. She refused by saying "we can't show you the tape, it's impossible to watch it for that long time, we're too busy at the moment". I kept insisting her to at least just pay attention to the first 30 minutes when we entered the kitchen, but apparently she was too busy to NOT doing her job which is to ASSIST and HELP customers on an urgent matter. Finally she said "you need to make a police report so that you can watch the recording" . so I rushed to the central station's police office which was already closed by then. Some security guy told me to dial 114 for emergency. But it was useless. I had to wait til the next morning when the office opens at 8 am. On January 4th morning I went to the reception to ask her to watch the CCTV tape and let me know what happened as they wouldn't allow me to watch it myself. While she was watching it, me and my friends went to the police office to make a report. Then I came back to the reception, showing her the police report and asked to watch the tape. She answered "you can't watch it unless the police come here and ask for it". She also said that she is SURE that my wallet was STOLEN. She said she saw a guy covering my bag with his jacket, took the wallet and went outside in seconds. his face was unseen and she mentioned that "he is a professional". I asked her to check whether it was the hostel's guest , and she was sure it wasn't. She said "everyone can enter this hostel and I'm sure it wasn't our guests. There hasn't been any report of our guests involved in theft". I borrowed the hostel's phone and with the help of another nice staff at the reception I made calls to my embassy, my bank and my insurance company. In the evening I went back to the police office and ask for assistance from the police so that I can watch the CCTV tape. They simply said "no, we can't do that. We don't have enough personnel at the office. The report has been recorded and this case is closed" . The police were as useless and unhelpful. I ran back to the hostel reception, this time seeing another staff. I kept insisting her so I could watch the tape, still with the same answer: I couldn't. She said "I can assure you that it was stolen". So to make sure I asked her to take a picture of the tape at the moment my wallet was being stolen. At first she refused, but we compromised that the picture can be deleted after I saw it. she took a photo with the phone, and showed me. There it was. The professional thief which looked more like a black shadow covering the chair with my bag on it. i returned the phone and she deleted the photo. My questions are, what's the point of having all the CCTV monitors? With CCTV cameras in every corner and a password device at the entrance, how can they let A THIEF(s) roaming around INSIDE the hostel? And now that it has happened, how can the hostel covered the only evidence, pretend this incident never happened and left the guest frustrated and helpless? Turns out there's not much hospitality in a place where there should be. read more

The worst hostel I've ever stayed in. Don't be fooled-- it's pretty cool that they have all the amenities that they do like an on-site movie theatre and tattoo shop, but other than that it's complete shit. the shower leaks so badly that the water flows all of the way out of the bathroom door even when you're only in it for 3 minutes, so every time somebody takes one it's like walking through a lake even after trying to squeegee it down the drain with your foot and towels. When I first got here I was excited to see that I got a towel (because most hostels don't do that for free), but at closer inspection there were multiple dead flies on it, and my comforter has blood stains on it, and a yellow stain I'm trying to pretend is coffee and not pee. The lockers are too small to hold even my small size "backpacker" backpack and I feel uncomfortable leaving it out because I am in a room with an alcoholic german guy that loudly talks on the phone at 4am--when somebody politely asked him to step outside to talk he told him france is the sh*ttiest country and that he should be ashamed to be from there. I also caught him rummaging through a pile of stuff he put on top of mine at 8am. I asked to switch rooms but they said the guy would be leaving that morning so I should just stay, even though they just switched him to another bed in our room. I explained it to the staff and they just seemed annoyed and told me to come back later and let them know if he's still in the room, which he was. I already paid for 2 more nights but I left this morning shortly after to stay my next 2 nights in another hostel, wasting $85. So turned off to this hostel and nobody could even respond to my emails asking if it was possible for me to be relocated or at least partially refunded for one of the nights if I checked out in time after the first of three. Can't believe I booked here over the Downtown Hostel just because they had a kitchen and I wanted to save money on eating out... looks like saving money didn't happen, what a joke. I am very much a person that is "say something nice or don't say anything at all" so I have never written a bad review before, but this had to be done not because I think it'll do even a dent in their business, but because as a fellow traveler I think it is a right for others to know what to expect. read more

Fantastic hostel! It was so easy to check in on like and use keypads to access the rooms instead of a physical key. Mainly I loved the vibe - quiet and clean where you wanted it to be, but the bar and living rooms were lively too. So convenient to rent a bike right from the hostel, and great kitchen. read more

Very nice hostel. I don't have much experience in hostels however I liked having lockers in the rooms, free towels and the beds were comfortable! We only stayed one night but I would have stayed another night if we were staying in Copenhagen longer. I like being so close to the train station and having a shower ensuite! If you're traveling through Copenhagen and want friendly service, comfortable beds and a very good price stay here! read more
