Nice terrace and good happy hour. Good location and nice hostel filled with young and smiley people. The not so great thing is that they barely play music in the bar (neither inside nor outside) ...

Conveniently located in Copenhagen, easy walk to the Metro, or the famous Nyhaven canal area and waterfront. TONS of cool stuff to do within the "Number 1 Voted Hostel in Denmark." There's bocce ball courts, outdoor areas, a bar, numerous lounges, shuffleboard, lockers, breakfast, the list goes on. One amenity I'd highly suggest is the bicycle rentals. You can rent in 6, 24, or 72 hour intervals. Copenhagen is really flat, and easily bike-able! There are designated bike lanes all over the city, and pedestrian and bicycle only bridges, bikes have the right of way in bike lanes, so if you're walking, get out of their way. We had a room with 2 single beds and a full bathroom. It was tiny, no TV, but all we did there is sleep and shower. I think cheaper options were bunk rooms with 4-8 beds. No Air Conditioning, but not too many places in Scananavia do. They do, however have an "Ice Bar" on site. Proof of staying at the Generator apparently gets you discounts for Ice Shots and other drinks. So, basically if you want a super cool kids kind of place for home base while in Copenhagen that's cheaper and close to lots cool things, this is where you go. Right here.

I managed to avoid hostels for sometime because I did not get to travel much at my last job. Now that I can travel again, I was a bit hesitant but ready to give this hostel game another try! The hostel life before Generator was dark and grim.... ok..it was more like "am I going to find a dark room with dirty sheets and wish I had stayed at a hotel?". Generator made my transition smooth and made me a hostel-believer (is that a thing?!?) again!!! Copenhagen location was easy to find, centrally located close to bunch of bars and the Christmas markets! The whole building has a modern vibe to it. It was nice to see a big bar and lounge area, with lots of people socializing. I booked a bed in a room of 6 people. Not everyone was there when I arrived. I was pleasantly surprised to find a storage box under the bed, making me a lot less worried about my personal belongings. It was nice that the toilet and the shower were separate to make it easy for people use one, while keeping the other free. What was nice to hear was that my friend who lives in Copenhagen had came to the Generator's bar to meet her friends before. I guess they have a good atmosphere! I only stayed there one night so I did not get to socialize or discover the hostel as much but I had a peaceful stay! I will definitely stay at another Generator hostel!

Fantastic hostel in a great location in central Copenhagen. Very safe (key cards to get into your room/take the elevator, under-bed lockers as well as lockers on the main floor if you have too much luggage, although the lockers are really spacious). Clean, very helpful staff. I will definitely stay here if I come back to Copenhagen.

Not to mention it was really close to Torvehallerne Square, which is around an eight-minute walk from the hotel. I arrived early, before check-in, and the reception staff offered to hold my luggage so I could explore the city. They give you a code and place it in a locked and video-monitored closet down in the basement. It was easy to do and safe for your belongings. After some exploring, I returned to the hotel around 4 PM and finally checked in. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that my single room had been upgraded to a larger room for free. I was stoked to hear that and loved the room and location they gave me. The room was beautifully furnished and was very clean! The only downside is the no AC. The temperature that day was in the low 60s (60-63 degrees). This may sound nice, but it was rather toasty in my room. They had a standing fan that, unfortunately, did not rotate, but it helped somewhat. They give you very heavy-duty duvets that are better for winter weather, but thankfully, I opened some of the windows in my room, which made it more bearable to sleep at night. The staff here was so friendly and accommodating. It's very close to plenty of sights, attractions, and restaurants. I would definitely stay here again. I was soooo excited about staying here because of its great location (Nyhavn st.) with the iconic colorful buildings and beautiful canals. The pictures of the hotel room made it look cozy and chic. We first arrived at 11PM and found a 15 minute parking spot right in front of the hotel. Past a certain time, they lock the entrance and you either open with your room key or you need to ring the doorbell. I wish I could remember the staff members names :( they were all so sweet and helpful! From giving us a small tour, taking us to the elevator and someone waiting in the cold to help us park the rental, these people are just awesome. I personally thought the people we encountered in our short stay were very sweet. People smiled back :D that does not happen at home. LOL. P.S parking is $40 USD The rooms are even more beautiful in person. We got a basic room because it was a short stay and our flight was the next day at 12PM. The water was warm compared to what we were using the days prior in Italy. The bed was A+. There's a stocked mini fridge and a couple of snacks (not free) but it helps for any midnight munchies. We ended up driving up to Mcdonald's. Hear me out... If you feel like the chicken nuggets have never tasted the same than before in the US, TRY IT OUT IN COPENHAGEN. I took a bite and went back to my childhood. I'll definitely be back to visit!

She told us so much of the history of the hotel, so it just made the stay more special. It started as a safe place to stay for sailors and morphed over time to become what it is. She shared her knowledge of sites to see. The location was absolutely 5*. Look out the window and you see a postcard view of Copenhagen that everyone thinks of. The room itself wasn't fancy like a Ritz, but the cozy boutique atmosphere makes up for all that. The room was nice and clean, had a comfortable bed, lots of windows that open up to fresh air. It turned out there was a downside to that as well. People were out all night, so we could hear all the drunken singing in the street through the night, but that was not the fault of the hotel. The most important feature of a hotel is a comfortable bed and quiet room. We were pleased when we had rooms facing the inside courtyard (instead of the noisy street) but very early in the morning, we were rudely awaken to sustained loud clattering over cobblestones. The next most important feature is wifi internet: the wifi internet was spotty and kept dropping for 1.5 hours and then went down completed for over 1.5 hours and then we gave up; we reported it and it was not fixed. We stayed in 5 hotels across 5 cities in 3 countries and this was the worst hotel considering the cost. Their cancellation policy was not aligned with the other hotels (2 day cancellation vs. 1 day or same day cancellation). We stayed here based on the stellar reviews but were very disappointed. The hotel is located right on the Nyhavn canal in the heart of what had to be the most touristy area. It is a haul to get to the Little Mermaid or any good food. The beds are comfortable with a teeny bathroom (what you might expect on a cruise) with no counter space. There is 1 small Sony TV in 1 room with very little storage space. The included breakfast was good with cheese, cold cuts, cereals and breads (but in comparison to the other 4 Scandanavian hotels it was actually the least varied and Spartan). Don't make the mistake of staying here. You can get a better quieter hotel for the money!

Not realizing I know the law and am relentless when clearly wronged, Scandi staff switched off the usually friendly and accommodating customer service and essentially stiff armed me to my face. Here's what happened - twice: so far. Once I get the refund, I'll remove this. If they stiff arm my credit card company too, then we escalate to the two Danish governmental associations governing such fraudulent conduct.) On 7/21/26 -nearly two years after a stellar August stay at Scandi, I attempted to schedule a reservation for 8/21/26 to 8/30/26, but my CapOne credit card did not put it through as a charge. An out of country fraud alert was sent to me instead. That's arguably the critical fact. Because a month later, Scandi debited that same card - the card where no charge was ever made, claiming I made a reservation and didn't show up. Rather than run the risk of a double charge on that same card when I got the fraud alert, I contacted my credit card folks and cancelled the attempted charge after speaking to their fraud dept. No money was ever paid to make any reservation. No reservation was made. Days later I made other reservations instead on another credit card at The Square 8/21/25 to 8/25/26, across the townhall square from Scandi Palace. they performed professionally. When I made the reservation, I got a confirmation email. I got several emails before my arrival on 8/21. I paid for the stay in full when I arrived. That is the way it works - when you make a reservation. The same exact procedure happened with the Tivoli Hotel for my 8/25/26 to 8/30/26 stay - I ultimately stayed at both. However, from 7/21/26 to 8/21/26, I neither heard from nor expected to hear from Scandi about any reservation for 8/21/26 to 8/30/26. Scandi never contacted me for any reason and yet, suddenly on 8/21, Scandi debited my Capcard $304.74. I was in shock. I notified my credit card company who should ultimately get my refund. But I yelp here about how I was treated when I literally walked over to Scandi from the Square, in person, on 8/21 to clear it up. On the first such occasion, I was dismissively brushed off by the front desk and on the second occasion, on 8/25 when I happened to be walking by, my further civil attempts to straighten this out were also rudely rejected. The woman clerk the second time haughtily informed me that Scandi had "nothing to do with it." However, she was unable to explain how Scandi debiting my account and Scandi keeping my money in their possession showed they had "nothing" to do with it. She wasn't much interested in any further discussion and at first declined even giving me contact information for the supervisor. So they charged me a day's stay for a reservation that was never made. They never wrote to me or contacted me about the so called reservation. When I brought it to their attention, in person, they blew me off, figuring refusing to even discuss the facts and giving me a dismissive, haughty attitude would be enough to let them keep the illicitly obtained $304. They've illegally taken my money, kept it and have thumbed their nose at me. Fortunately for them they can't be sued for Consumer Fraud, which in New Jersey would entitle me to treble damages or over $900.00. Unfortunately for them, there are three Danish authorities (including the police) that I can file complaints with if they still refuse the refund my credit card demanding it. I doubt I'll ever stay there again even after I get the refund by whatever means necessary. The Danish ethos of following rules and the law and exhibiting empathy to everyone was replaced by Scandi's t brush off attitudes of "fat chance" and "get lost". Stay tuned. And beware yourselves, Yelpers.
