Got to try Urban Poutine during food truck Thursday in Crystal City. Ordering was quick and the food was out in a timely manner. Fries actually held up for the first few minutes but the gravy slowly seeped in causing the fries to become mushy but flavor was still there. The cheese curds were a great compliment however they weren't melted enough. The red wine braised short rib was very tender and flavorful. Just not enough of it. Overall flavor of Urban Poutine was pretty good for a food truck. I just wish the quantity match the price especially for $11. read more

I had poutine for the very first time at Urban Poutine, a food truck in Washington, DC. I visited this food truck when they stopped by the State Department / C Street stop, though they do roam all around the city. For their location on any given day, I'd suggest visiting either their Twitter page or the Food Truck Fiesta app. Poutine is awesome - I had no idea what it was until I had some, but it's apparently comprised of French fries and cheese curds topped with a brown gravy and it originates from the Canadian province of Quebec. "Cheese curd" sounds gross, but it was actually fantastic! It was pretty greasy, but perfectly tasty and filling. I loved this poutine experience and think Urban Poutine does a great job. I'd definitely visit this food truck again in the future! read more

Pretty solid poutine. We got the house and short rib for poutine and really enjoyed the how melty cheese curds were. The struggle I have with this review and how many stars to give is because they're a food truck and I guess I was expecting better. I love food trucks. For some odd reason I enjoy the experience of it and love the food that comes out. For the most part food trucks are higher in price but their quality and unique items always makes it worth it for me. At Urban poutine their poutine was good and average but when considering how limited their availability was its makes it difficult to justify the drive to find it. Poutine is Quebec's gift to the world, and Urban Poutine is one of my favorite food trucks in the city. The french fries are deep fried in peanut oil (similar to five guys) and the cheese curds and gravy are delicious and authentically Quebecois. The last time I visited the food truck they had taken bacon off the menu, which I hope they add back. My major complaint about this food truck is that it rarely comes to DC (as opposed to Virginia) and, more importantly, that they sometimes claim that they'll be at a certain spot on a given day and then not show up. Always wanted to try poutine, but never had the opportunity. Today was my lucky day. The first thing I noticed was that by the time I made the short 5 minute walk back to my office, my poutine was cold. Cold cheese is cool: cold fries and cold gravy... not so much. Despite not being fresh and hot, it was pretty tasty. However, I think I got too many of those shriveled, crunchy, burnt-end fries. The first few bites were like chewing a pine cone, sticking me in the roof of my mouth and such. Once I got those out of the way though, the remainder of the fries were good. The gravy was excellent, with the perfect balance of saltiness and flavor. The cheese curds were great, but I would have enjoyed them even more were they not merely chewy cheese chunks hanging out on top of my fries. I've read that the gravy and fries are supposed to be super hot to melt the cheese curds, creating this creamy, salty, ooey-gooey amazingness. While each of the flavors were individually there, I would have liked them to come together in rich cheese-and-gravy harmony. I chose to get the original poutine but it was not what I expected. I've never really had real poutine but I still know good French fries when I taste them. I was pretty disappointed that of all the food trucks at Truckeroo, I picked this one. The fries weren't piping hot or really that crispy right off the bat. The basis of poutine is fries - so they already missed the mark there. The gravy was good but in their haste to get orders out ASAP (even though everything seemed to be made-to-order), the cheese curds were basically just chunks of solid cheese. You'd be better off dousing your fries with nacho cheese and getting your fries elsewhere. read more

I came to DC from Quebec to visit friends and I was told about this truck serving poutine not far from me. I was hoping to get some food from home, but I was very disappointed. They said hand cut fries, but they looked and tasted like frozen fries. The cheese was orange and had very little taste. Not even close to cheese curds used in poutine at home. Had the pleasure of trying Urban Poutine at a beer and wine festival a couple weeks back. The whole menu looked fantastic (andouille poutine!? Absolutely!) but we ended up going with the short rib poutine. Oh man, I'm so glad we did because I would have been missing out! I'm sure you all know, but poutine is fries, gravy and cheese curds. Simple, but fantastic. As far as classic goes, Urban Poutine has fried their fries to perfection. They stand up incredibly well to the gravy, which in turn was the perfect level of saltiness to not turn overpowering with the addition of the cheese curds. I was originally somewhat concerned about short rib, thinking it might detract from the simplicity of the classic, but boy was I wrong. The short rib was cooked to the most tender of morsels, and was packed full of flavor. Once again, even though strong in it's own right, the flavor lent itself to the rest of the ingredients instead of overpowering at all. When we originally ordered we had decided it was big enough to split, but upon tasting the first bite immediately regretted not getting two! Had the original - delivered for me on all levels. Fries, overdeliver. Pretty close to Five Guys (perfection) but maybe even better. I think I definitely caught them firing on all cylinders. These were hot, fresh, crispy outside, soft inside. Timing perfect. Held up to the gravy while still taking on the gravy nicely. I mean, I was starving, but it couldn't have been just that. These were awesome. Gravy, also spot on. Spot on on salt, spot on on richness, spot on on flavor, spot on on portion ratio to the fries. Curds, tasty enough. Great compliment. Appreciated them. Portion, not a disappointment for $9, but not an overdeliver. Just about right, would have enjoyed 15% more, and would be a bit shy for the$11 versions, but still satisfactory. If you're worried about how this holds up with delivery, don't be. They give you separate cups for the cheese curds and the gravy, so when the fries arrive, they're not soggy. I got the short rib poutine and it was delicious - so crispy from the fries and tender from the meat. This has a lot of flavor and textures if you're worried about it being one-note, as poutine can sometimes be. Really loved it. read more

My mother was Quebecoise and I spent my childhood going to Quebec a couple times a year. Have eaten loads of poutine. This food truck is awesome. The meat is much fancier than you will find at 90% of the places you'll eat poutine in Quebec. This isn't a complaint, I love em all. Poutine is like pizza, you can do anything you want with it. With this being said this poutine was excellent. I had a poutine with braised pork. Fries were decent, although i'm a fan of the darker brown sweeter fries, sauce although not typical brown gravy was flavourful and just the right amount and the cheese curds were better than i expected considering they were not St Guillaume cheese curds.... a solid 4 stars read more

I got to try Urban Poutine at 2016's first Truckeroo. Man were they popular! We waited in line for about an hour to get a taste. I was scared that they were going to run out before we got to the front of the line but my worries were unfounded! We finally got to the front of the line where I ordered the short rib poutine, by far the most indulgent choice (obvi). The short rib was quality! It would easily belong on a fancy restaurant plate. I just wish it were shredded for ease of eating instead of in one piece. The cheese curds were perfectly squeaky and melted nicely under the heat of the gravy. The french fries were twice cooked and really great. Overall, some of the best poutine I've had in the DC area! I can't wait to try this truck again in the future! Even with the small container, they could have added more cheese and definitely more meat. They also forgot to include the onions - which I am sure would have been a tasty addition.
