***HIGHLY RECOMMEND*** I took my kitties here for boarding as I needed to stay in a hotel for a week. They had their own kitty bungalow with a cat tree, water fountain, and lots of things to play with. It was the size of a small closet which is great because every other place would keep them in a small cage. And they could stay together. The room has sliding glass doors with blinds. My one cat is anxious so I closed the blinds until he got used to the smells and the change. I visited them almost everyday and they were well taken care of. They got play time with the staff and the staff were great about feeding them and giving my one kitty her meds. A storm came in and I wasn't able to pick them up as planned, and the staff was fantastic and they were able to keep them for a few more days. Urban Sophisticats is wonderful and I felt very comfortable leaving my kitties here under their care. I highly recommend it!! They even got a pedicure while there. read more

Brought my senior kitty in and would not come back. Spent $200 for the works and they cut her whiskers. Even if this was in error, unacceptable. They also nipped her too many times. I understand if this happened once or twice, but it's just not ok with the number of spots they cut her. Stay away from here. read more

We are the 7th owner of our cat and have had her for 3 1/2 years. Though we had her deshedded, we never had her do a bath. We have no idea if she EVER had a bath. I was very nervous but was attracted to Urban Sophiticats because it was all cats. My experience as been that cats are "second" to dogs in a mixed salon. These people know how to handle cats. From start to finish my questions were answered and my cat had a great experience. Despite having a medical heart issue, I felt confident that my cat was in good hands. For two weeks after the bath, I was given some extra cuddles and I think it was a thank you from my cat. Her coat, color and comfort level all improved. We rescued a kitten a few months ago and had been taking him here every two weeks for claw trimming. I was doing his nails when we first got him with a bit of resistance because his paws were so teeny, and figured $10 was worth it to have him done professionally here since we moved just up the street. He was NOT excited the first time. Took two employees to hold the feisty kitten. So we started doing paw comfort exercises to help normalize. He got better with us at home, but worse than when we first had him. And it just kept getting worse. We couldn't figure out why. Reading reviews on here we've come to some assumptions. The last time we dropped off, the shaved-headed man came out to get him from me again, as I can't go in and they don't wear or enforce masks in there. He didn't look at me, say one word, and looked angry as he grabbed the carrier from me at the door. He came out about 4-minutes later and said we can't come back unless the cat is tranquilized. I've been an animal caregiver for 16-years and have worked in clinics and professionally with animals for 26-years. Animals are influenced by human emotions and this guy was in an evident bad place. Reading on here that he has been very aggressive to others explained a lot. We will no longer be back here. We will continue to take care of our cats at home because I simply don't trust that man or what anxious/angry energy may be influencing our cat's stress or behavior. read more

Absolutely wonderful staff. I was more nervous than my 7yr old Ragdoll and this was Socrates first professional beauty treatment. I usually do the home DYI cat grooming and over the years I discovered it made me too nervous and Socrates as well. I conceded to the professionals and 2.5hrs later I picked up the most precious kitty. He smelled great and was softer than the first day I brought him home as a kitten. My cat Maggie is full or torti-tude and an old lady...she LOVED her transformation! Once we got home she pranced around meowing and rolling around the happiest she's ever been. It was her first time with a groomer at the age of 13 so I was very worried plus she likes to bite people. They did the works on her and told me she may go into hiding or lick but nope. STAY AWAY! I regularly brought my cat in for nail trimmings on Saturdays, no appointment needed and super convenient. The issue with Urban Sophisticats did not happen until I brought my cat in to get his summer grooming. I had a 1:00 appointment scheduled, was contacted at 11:17 to see if I could bring my cat in sooner. Sure, I brought him in at noon. I walked in and was greeted by a tall, bald man. He greeted me but it didn't feel sincere (whatever, he may be having a bad day). I was asked to fill-out some paperwork and sign off on some disclosures, no big deal. I sign my paperwork in the other room and came back to find the guy was gone. I opened the door to the kennel, my cat was in and started petting him. He was so calm and lovey. The man walked around the corner and saw this. He started asking why I wanted to groom my cat into a lion cut. Asked if he's ever been groomed before (he has been, in the same lion cut), in Austin, TX. The man told me that if my cat becomes aggressive or if they needed a second set of hands I would be charged an additional $35 for handling. I told him I have seen my cat get groomed and he just hunkers down. He reassured me that he'll let me know and to pick up my cat by 3:00. Something just did not feel right and I felt no matter what I was going to be paying the additional $35. I went home and told my husband I wasn't impressed with my communication with this man. I got a phone call from Urban Sophisticats at 2:32 that my cat is ready for pick-up. I informed the woman that my husband was on his way to pick him up and asked the price. She told me "it's going to be $140." I asked "why, did my cat become aggressive, if so why?" because I have had my cat for 4 years and never once have I seen him become aggressive. At this time the woman starts fumbling over "why" asking me if he's ever been groomed, where he has been groomed at, and a slew of other questions, that I answered, but what felt like an excuse to find a way to charge the additional $35. She literally told me, "sometimes when you groom cats in a cat only facility that they can become aggressive and he needed help while getting bathed." I made the comment "so because he's in a cat only facility and doesn't like water, and need assistance in the bath, you're charging me and additional $35? Fine." and I hung up. My husband shows up to pick up our cat and pay. He starts asking questions too, because this cat is the calmest cat you'll ever meet. The woman made a comment that I was "disgruntled" and my husband said "sure, she's trying to figure out why we're paying additional." The woman said that she called the groomer in Austin, TX and said that the groomer in Austin said she has had trouble with my cat. I know this is a FLAT OUT LIE, because the woman who groomed him does not groom past noon CST on Saturdays and it was 3:32-ish Texas time when Uban Sophisticats found out the name of my former groomer, ALSO, I have sat in the room with her grooming my cat, every single time, I know my cat has never given her trouble. When the bald man walked around the corner he made some comment to my husband, and my husband asked why he was there and the woman said, "he knows I'm upset with the conversation with your disgruntled wife." my husband told the man, "if this is a professional establishment and you're going to talk to me this way, please step away." Apparently, around this time, the bald man told my husband that they needed to step outside and handle the situation "man-to-man." The woman stood-up to stop the situation from getting out of hand, and my husband left, infuriated. There are two good things out of this, 1) the woman walked out and handed my husband his card and didn't charge us the additional $35, and 2) it's seriously the best cut my cat has ever had. Unfortunately, we will no longer take our services to this place. I wish I had done my research, it looks like these people are abusive to animals, according to these reviews. Rachel and staff are the best! They are so kind and were very patient with my cat. Just adopted him almost a month ago and he came with several big mats and lots of small ones. She took the time to talk to me about options and since he was adopted offered a special promotion for a wash and dry. He came home absolutely sparkling clean and fluffy soft! I took my 18 year old kitty in because she was covered in mats as she's stopped grooming herself. I was really nervous to take her because she is so old and has bad arthritis. The owners really listened to my concerns. They said they would have two groomers work on her to be able to handle her with care. She ended up with the lion cut which means they shaved her completely with the exception of her head, feet and tip of the tail. I'm not gonna lie, it was traumatic and hard on her, however the groomers did an exceptional job and I have nothing but good things to say about them. They even washed her blanket for the carrier :) I didnt realize there were special credentials for cat grooming, and how much work it takes to obtain them. These guys are well worth the wait to get in. I will be taking my other kitty in now that I see what they can do. read more

A few months ago, my husband took in his childhood cat from his elderly grandfather due to health issues. Thea was severely matted and smelled awful. We scheduled an appointment with Urban Sophisticats because of their knowledge of working with elderly cats. Thea was a 22 year old cat who still had a lot of spice. We tried grooming her ourselves but she was too aggressive for us to handle. When we brought her in we understood there may be an extra charge due to her increased matting and aggression. We sedated her and received a call a few hours later that she was ready for pickup. They did an amazing job on her! They cleaned up her undercarriage and dematted her coat. We did pay the aggression fee as this had been her first time to the groomer in 5 years but it was worth it to see how happy she looked and how soft her coat was. We took her again 8 weeks later fully sedated and she did alot better. Unfortunately Thea passed away a few days ago and we had to cancel our future appointment. They treated her very well in her old age and if we ever need another one of our cats groomed we will know where to bring them. read more

I had taken my 2 16 year old cats to Urban Sophisticats a few times over the past 2 years. The last time I took them, early August 2017, I first noticed that the shop smelled like auto exhaust. I was told that her boyfriend works on bikes in the evenings. I figured it would air out and wasn't too concerned. Should have been a red flag. When I picked up the 1st cat it seemed the air had cleared some and it was just a "one off". I brought my 2nd cat later the same day. When I picked her up I could see in the carrier that she looked "cranky". They said she did fine so I figured she was just not happy about the experience and all would be fine the next day, Sunday. The Sunday I could see that one of her eyes was not right! It was so sad to see my pretty girl with an eye injury. After taking her to the vet Wednesday (soonest available appt) I found out that she had a 3rd eyelid injury. The 3rd eyelid covered nearly 1/2 of her eye. Likely caused by damage to the nerve and would probably heal in 4-6 weeks. I called the shop Monday morning to find out what could have happened. When they called back Tuesday, I asked if they had any issues with her to which she said they didn't. I was trying to give them a chance to come clean out her being injured while there. She didn't. When I told her about the eye damage, she said maybe they did notice something when I initially brought her in. That's not true. She was perfect when I left her. Asked me to let her know what the Vet said when I took her the next day. Vet said the nerve was likely damaged when being groomed, as it runs from the eye - over the head to the shoulder and back to the eye. $100 visit to eliminate other causes. I won't be taking my cats there again. I was intending to get on the 6 week schedule to save a few bucks but now the injury to my cat, stress to me and an hit to the wallet means we won't be back. I hoped they might have compassion and call me to find out how my at was doing but that never happened. I thought they might care about her health and us being repeat clients. They didn't tell me she was injured while in their care and they didn't even follow-up to find out if she was OK. Makes me wonder what the cats really go through while there. I no longer trust this business. read more

I originally posted a rave review. NOW 3/18/2018 I have decided to help others out and forewarn them. The last time I took two of my cats I supposedly had the earliest morning appointments which were booked online. I couldn't pick my cats up til after 3pm......When I went to check other cats were being worked on, then it went silent(lunch break!) I had to ask what was going on. My kitten didn't look like anything had been done and they"forgot" to spray the finishing spray on her. This was her second visit where I had asked for specifics things to be groomed and they decided to do what they had time for. They had good intentions at one time but it is all about mass production and money! Heed this advice and take your loved ones elsewhere. read more

Let me say that Rachel and her crew have done a wonderful job with our cats for years. Even though my boys are totally predictable to ME they will react different with other people. So some of the past reviews about aggressive fees etc. are in my opinion overblown. It depends on the mood, what the other cats are saying :) and phases of the moon. We have taken all 3 to her and the funny thing is our 7 lb Alpha male gave her the most issue. Yet when Daddy shows up he is smooth as silk. It is unrealistic to think YOUR cat will be complacent with strangers. Our 21lb Maine Coon has had a $35 fee off and on. I cannot bath and trim him but Rachel and crew can. These guys are certified to do Cats only and are very professional. And that Certification is a rare one. read more

My first experience with Urban Sophisticats was above my expectations. My little cat Montee needed a nail trim. His nails are hard to clip because he is like a slinky and I can not hold on to him! We walked in mid morning on a saturday, was greeted by a friendly staff and 10 minutes later, and for only 10.00, Montee had his manicure and we were headed back home! The shop was clean, smelled good and was nicely decorated. The grooming services they offer are well priced and there are a number of levels of service. My long haired kitty has never been a fan of being brushed (he would attack the comb or brush and our hands every time), and would get mats that we'd have to shave out. This ordeal would take 4 of us to try and accomplish, and so a couple years ago I decided it was time to give this place a try. I wish I had been taking him here sooner! I have been so incredibly happy to keep bringing my cat back there since. He looks and feels and smells amazing every time, and his behavior has changed, too! He now doesn't mind getting in the cat carrier, going for car rides, and is better about being brushed. He's even changed his attitude about going to the vet - our last couple vet visits instead of being scared and yowling/hissing and not wanting to come out of the carrier, he actually looks like the cat we know and love at home and I can't think what else to attribute that to except his positive experiences with the groomer. read more

They slapped my cat so hard that they gave her a concussion. Sure, she got a great haircut, but omg. I will never go back there again. The groomer said that my cat's eyes were going all over the place and that "a lion cut often brings out other diseases that they already have." What an excuse for the abuse that they did; my cat has no disease that the haircut brought out; she was just fine when she went in, has a concussion and unequal pupil dilation now. This was our second time in, with two cats getting lion cuts. Not once did they say that this might make your cat go bananas, until it did. I will never ever go back. By the way, this is vet verified, my cat has a concussion. Ugh, and I tipped them! read more

I have been taking our kitties to Rachel for years now and am completely satisfied each and every time. We have two short hair kitties - one is quite shy and the other quite social - one a DSH and the other a Burmese - and both complain a little bit about leaving their warm home. However, when we get them back home, they are so soft and smell so good. I do not know how Rachel manages to cut the nails so well. Very impressive. Anyway, we have happy kitties after their spa treatment and guests also love how soft they are and how good they smell. Show quality to be sure (if we showed our cats)! There is no one else I would trust more to leave my kitties with than Rachel, and I went through many groomers before finding Rachel. I recommend that anyone with a kitty short hair or long hair give their cats the spa treatment at Urban Sophisticats! read more

I have been taking my Persian kitty there for over 6 months. The last 2 times were awful. When I came to pick him up, I expected to pay 55.00 for his maintenance grooming and without my permission, they gave him a sanitary shave and charged me 75.00. I was not happy. I took him back the last time, his appointment was for 9 am, and I didn't get him back until almost 1:30 pm. They called me and said he is matted and recommended a lion cut. I asked how much that would cost and said about 180.00. I said no. Then they told me he was being aggressive that day, even though he has always been a good kitty and that instead of the 55.00 it will cost about 120.00. I wasn't happy about that either, than after my poor little man was there for several hours, I went to pick him up and they charged me 145.00. I will never be going back again. Plus the new groomer that they hired (I don't know his name) is extremely rude. He doesn't smile or acknowledge you when you come in and acts in different to your cat. No groomer should charge that much. They take advantage of you because they are "specialized" cat groomers. There are alot of other cat groomers that are wonderful and don't take advantage of loving cat owners. read more

It's taken me a few months to write this review, but after picking my cat up this afternoon from a different groomer I remembered. Approximately 5 months ago, I used Urban Sophisticats after my prior groomer stopped offering cat services. I dropped my kitty off first thing in the morning and 4 hours later returned to pick him up. Once there, I was told that my 14 year old, always indoor, professionally groomed faithfully twice per year since he was a kitten, had fleas. I was disgusted and immediately took my car straight to the car wash and vacuumed twice. I then returned home after spending over $200 on flea treatment and prevention for the cat and our two dogs. I am absolutely meticulous, a complete germ-a-phobe. I then took my dogs to the vet immediately, absolutely no signs, not a single one. Vacuumed the house three times, not a single flea dead or alive,. Took the cat to the vet and again, not a single sign. I was told by these ladies my cat was infested, how could not a single flea be found in the car, crate, house, either dog, or the cat? They charged me $120, a large extra charge for the extra flea treatments supposedly needed. I am convinced that I was lied to and grossly overcharged. Will never return. Had a great groom today and absolutely nothing wrong with him, never was before or after our visit to Urban Sophisticats. read more

This is not the place to take your fur babies, especially if they don't like new places and people. I took my two cats in for the first time about a year ago, and it was great. One did receive the "aggressive cat" fee, but that was all, and they looked great! Now, a year later, the same "aggressive" cat gets an even bigger fine. She was hurt or scared so badly that her third eyelid showed and the pupil in the same eye is significantly smaller than the other even after a couple months and a visit to the vet. I won't definitively say they hit her or anything without proof, but being told "her eyes were going everywhere and she was freaking out" is a pretty big indication that they weren't doing anything good to her. My other cat was and is fine, because he's very mellow and likes baths and people, but I know that if he was in any way freaked out or "aggressive" he'd get smacked or whatever too. The two owners of the shop are great, but everyone else they hired shouldn't be groomers. Even when I'd come to pick them up, they were blasting music and yelling, while I had to sit and wait for another hour as they hadn't even started on my second cat. Since there's no good place for cat grooming that I know of and can trust to safely groom my cats, I get to learn how to do it myself. read more
