I really wanted to write a positive review. Because I truly love this place and I always recommend my family and friends to go URelax, but I was very disappointed with the female staff that attended my husband during our couples massage. She was talking most of the time throughout the 90 minute massage to the male staff that was massaging me. Luckily he wasn't engaging with her much but it was very distracting and difficult to relax. However, they really need to have someone who speaks fluent English assisting because instead of having a relaxing experience, I had a frustrating and stressful one due to the language barrier. I was very happy here after my foot massage and had also purchased a full body massage on groupon. After my foot massage appt I made the body massage appt on the spot and showed the woman my Groupon. She made my appt and when I showed up for it she told me she wouldn't honor it because I wasn't a new customer. I told her I would file a complaint with Groupon and that I showed her my groupon when I made the appt. she finally decided to give it to me but not without a struggle. Warning if you're buying Groupons. And by the way, their posted "promotional price" is $50, same as the Groupon but their brochure listed it as $60. Update 2017: I've been coming here regularly for foot massages with their package. Buy 5 get one free. The advertised price is $39 for an hour. But when you buy the package they try to charge you $200 ($39*5 would be $195). It's a shame they have shady business practices because the foot massage is actually quite good! read more

I walked in feeling like a stiff board and walked out feeling like a limp noodle. Absolutely amazing! I got a 60 min deep tissue massage on Groupon. The receptionist was nice and took down my voucher number and I followed my massage therapist, Coco, back to the room. Clean room, nice lighting and soothing music. As for the massage, she used a lot of pressure but was sure to occasionally ask if the pressure was okay for me. Coco was fantastic! She was very thorough, she made sure to include my scalp, feet, toes and fingers. I was sad when I heard the timer go off! Just had my first experience at u relax in Westfield! Easy to make appointments and they also take walk-ins. Had my appointment at 12 o'clock was a little delayed by 10 minutes. Stinks because you have to pay a meter; no free parking only on Sundays. Some of the staff members are very friendly. One woman at desk appears to be just focus on business like everyone walking and is just $$ The rooms were nice. Not as high end as other chain massage/spa centers (prob how they keep their prices lower). Received the 50 minute body massage which was excellent left there feeling like a whole new person. The prices for their services are very reasonable in comparison to many other places. Will highly recommend this facility to others for massages. Need to try the one hour foot massage and will get back to you on the review for that ;-) FYI when they say whole body it is meant unlike other places. I had to deduct one star. Last two times I visited they attempted to swindle me into adding on time. "I need to finish your feet" apparently meant "I did not finish in the time slot and wanted to know if you wanted an additional 30 minutes." The second gentleman that massaged me did not speak English and just continued on past my time and then charged a $40 tip onto my card. Needless to say, I have partnered back with my licensed massage therapist and no longer go here. read more

The owner gave me a hassle to honor the cash value of my Groupon. She tried to charge me more and lied about how much my husband actually paid for the voucher. I had to call him and produce evidence from the transaction. She was nasty about it. The massage was ok, but a very strange experience. The masseuse never asked about any focus areas, problems or anything really. Unlike other places, this place does not have sheets on the massage table for you to stay under. Instead, they have a beach towel. The masseuse left twice during the massage to get products to use during the massage. On top of that, she used hot, wet towels, which are fine for a nail salon, but just odd to use for a back massage. I was damp and cold from the towels. After the massage and despite being disappointed, I decided to leave a tip. This is in addition to the fact that I paid extra for tax and the price difference between the cash value of the Groupon and the service. The owner made it extremely uncomfortable, demanding more money and making snide remarks. I will never go back to this place. Instead of relaxing, I found this place to be off-putting and obnoxious. The owners were nasty. The massage was strange. There are several other places in the area that do an incredible job. Skip U-relax and head to one of the many other options. read more

Tried this place for the first time today with a friend. We both chose the 60 minute foot reflexology for $39. We were led to the back to a room with very comfortable seating and dimmed lights and music. We then had our feet placed in hot water to soak while we were given shoulder, head, arm and hand massages. From there the reflexology began and it was amazing!! We didn't use the Groupon for $35 and was told that if you do buy one, you cannot use it the same day. No biggie. We were treated nicely and no one was rude or tried to charge us more or commented about tipping. I will definitely go back and may even try a regular massage. read more

I had a couples massage tonight that we received as a Christmas gift. I have had hundreds of massages all over the world. I just moved to NJ from California and I admit that I am a California snob accustomed to a very high level of health & wellness services. I went in with low expectations. The reception area is much nicer than the storefront would suggest. It was warm, quiet and immaculately clean. The couples room was very nice. We were shown in by a young man and when the therapists entered they immediately started to work. I had a woman named Lina. Everyone is Chinese and there was little or no chit chat. Just the way I like it. Her strength and skill was very surprising. I had major neck surgery back in August and my neck and shoulders were very locked up and sore going in. At my request she focused on these areas and held nothing back. This was an excellent experience on every level. Deep tissue work is not fun but if you want to get things loosened up this is the only way to get there. Some of the reviews I see indicate there are a lot of newbies that don't understand body work in general and deep tissue work in particular. This is a really great place. This massage would cost $100+ in a good studio in LA. I am going back in a few days for more. Highly recommended. read more

The massage was good, the place was clean, the table and blanket were comfortable, I was able to get an appointment immediately, and it was $60 for an hour. I haven't been to the places that charge twice as much, but I don't know what they could do to justify that. And obvs. it wouldn't always be the case, but it happened that the masseuse and I were the only two people in the place (and he remained masked the whole time). I have been going to this location for years and had been generally pleased with the service Most of the time. Tonight there was a new woman at the desk and a new male masseuse. I requested a deep tissue massage but got a very light pressure Swedish. I did not complain, however upon checkout they charged me $11 over the listed price. Again I DID NOT complain. Finally I signed off on the amount and tried to leave when they asked why I didn't tip. THIS is when I became offended! Beware of the woman at the cash register. Went to get a couples massage. No problem making an appointment over the phone. The room was spacious, inviting, and set a tone for relaxation. I did not have any allergic reactions to the lotion/massage oil they used, and it had a light floral smell. The massages themselves were very good - very deliberate, and he spent the time needed to address the knots I had in my shoulders. I didn't feel like they were rushing to beat the timer, like they do in other places. I have given this place a fair shot. I've been there 4 times and my latest experience did me in. Is it clean? yes Are the therapists good? Yea Price points? Fair (ESP for the area and location) Well why the one star might you ask? This is the main reason and a major no no in my book that causes me to be a disgruntled customer. The receptionist who I believe to be the owner DEMANDED me to tip more then I did. The nerve! And how embarrassing? There were customers in the waiting area. I tipped the standard 20 percent on my 1 hour 39.00 reflexology and she told me to tip 10.00. She started talking to another asian gentleman in their language which I didn't understand and it was quite embarrassing as a customer ! My massage therapist was not even nearby. The masseuse threw my tip!!! My fiancé and i had a couples massage last week. I was planning on buying the groupon but when I called to check their Sunday availability, the lady that answered my call mentioned she'd give me the groupon price without having to buy the groupon. Therefore, I agreed and made an appointment. Let me say the massage was amazing! I frequently get massages so to find a place where I actually Loved it and is close to home was so exciting! I was going to book my next appointment until..we were paying the bill. I gave both masseuses a tip. The lady smiled and thanked me, the other guy threw it. I did not witness this because I turned around. the receptionist tells me I have to tip them more since she gave me the groupon price. I was pleased with the service and I didn't want to argue so I gave an extra $10; however after we leave my fiancé informed me this horrible man threw my tip! I agree with the review by Jade 100%! I'm a licensed esthetician in NJ and can also say that you need to do your homework whenever you're going to get any type of skin/hair/bodywork done. This is a very specific style of massage to create a certain type of result. This is not a fluffy salon or spa. If you're going to U Relax then you need to make sure you like a deep tissue acupressure-style massage that will help to unblock stagnant energy in the body and release serious muscle tension. If you're looking for a fluffy massage THIS PLACE IS NOT FOR YOU. If you're in pain and need work done then you're in luck! I go for a massage weekly and I always see Kevin. They use a timer to guarantee that you get the full time of your massage. I leave so limber and relaxed, I'm ready for a nap! As far as the tips go, especially with groupons, common courtesy would suggest 20% of the ORIGINAL price of the service (it even states so on your groupon). Please keep in mind that the average price of your "fluffy" 90min massage will cost you about $150+ in NJ/NY so you'd be leaving a $30+ tip for their work. Who gets a deep tissue massage and leaves $7?! That's absolutely SHAMEFUL! The therapist would rather you leave nothing, that's basically an insult to the work and time they just put in for you. If you go and feel that the massage style just wasn't for you, that is completely understandable, but that is not the therapists fault, that is what the establishment offers. Your therapist is only getting their commission off of the cheaper groupon price, so it's only decent to tip accordingly. It's not fair to them to receive so many negative reviews from people who don't know what they're getting into because they don't research a modality they're receiving on their body and from people who don't know what the common courtesy is for gratuity. I always get a 90min massage ($75) and I typically leave a minimum of $30 because I know the quality of work that I'm receiving and what other spas and salons charge for that type of service. Please educate yourselves before subjecting your body to ANY type of treatment. There are different modalities for massage, just like the different techniques for facials, waxing and haircuts/color. Bought a Groupon for a 60 min Foot Reflexology massage to try this place out. Another massage place in Westfield, huh. That was my initial thought. However the facility is deceivingly large and spacious with probably 8 massage rooms and another 8 of those big comfy chairs for foot massages. The tables and chairs are all high end quality. The person who delivered the massage was strong and thorough. He washed, massaged, pressure point and stretched my feet and lower legs. Wow! This was a great experience. I am reading other reviews talking about tipping and service. All I can add is that I've had literally hundreds of massages and for me a customary tip for a good 1 hour massage is between $15-30 but it is discretionary and any amount given should be accepted with dignity and humility. The foot and body massages are both below average. The biggest hurdle is communication; no one in the front desk staff being able to communicate clearly. After reading the mixed reviews I decided to check this place out for myself. No Frills. Lower Prices. U Relax Spa is NOT your traditional massage it is more Asian inspired. I am sure if you request a particular type of massage and they are unable to do it they will tell you. As I am sure if there is a particular body part you need them to focus on you can tell them. I would make it clear to them what you are looking for especially since you are paying for it. Now if you don't mind deep tissue and again more Asian Traditional Massage this is a great place. I brought a full body deep tissue massage from Groupon. Let's just say that it will be my last massage purchased from Groupon. The place looks nice. Nice decor. However communication is horrible. When I entered they acted as if I didn't make an appointment. No one could answer my questions. They rushed me to the back. I've had plenty of massages and typically they ask you questions beforehand or have you fill out a questionnaire. Something so that they may know what to focus on more or even health issues. Nothing! Then my masseuse sniffled during the ENTIRE massage. At one point she has the nerve to pull out a tissue from her pocket and blow her nose. She must have thought I didn't hear her. Wrong! Then she went back to the massage. Yuck! What really did was she sneezed too. Ma'am if you are sick then you should NOT be massaging anyone. Lastly her nails were equally annoying. As a health professional, you are schooled to anyways have your nails cut. And she didn't seem to know what she was doing. Don't continuously massage my spine but my muscles and tissue. Lastly they asked if I wanted to leave a tip. I told them she was sick and sniffled the entire massage. She claimed she had allergies. REALLY!!! This time of year! That is something that should be disclosed to the customer or dealt with initially. Oh and they cover you with a towel. That's a first.
