I don't give 5 stars for just ANYBODY - but this doctor's office deserves every one of them!…read more When I had my regular appointment with my primary care physician, I was referred to Dr. Chapman. My doctor's office made the referral appointment for me, and I was very pleased to be able to get in to see him so soon - in just 5 days. I got to the office on time - was given 2 sheets of paper to fill out that wasn't in the 'online' version - and took care of doing the things you have to do when visiting a urologist. Typically I get gun shy, but luckily for me, everything came out as expected... After filling the cup, my wait was less than 15 minutes until I was called to be seen. I did all the 'new patient Olympic tricks' - checked my height, my weight - my blood pressure - temp - and was taken to 'the room' to wait for Doctor Chapman. The room was as comfortable as you can be, waiting for a doctor. I could overhear him talking to the patient in the next room - couldn't understand what they were talking about - but he was answering the patient's questions thoroughly - and that already impressed me. I like it when my doctor answers my questions, so there's another 'plus' mark in my ratings book. When he came into the room, he introduced himself - and I in return - and he started asking questions about the answers and concerns I had indicated on the forms that I had filled out. He listened to my questions - and answered them very professionally. He followed up with more info insuring me that he was giving me good information - and that he cared about my overall health and well being. We talked about a game plan he is going to put me on, and I look forward in working with him very much. He ordered some blood tests, and scheduled my next appointment with him - and now comes the 'fun' part... Time to meet the vampire who'll take my blood! I don't like having my blood drawn. Unless it's with a pen or a pencil, having my blood drawn is never on my million things to do.... ever. The guy in my primary care physician's office, has high ratings from me, in drawing my blood. This woman makes Doug look like a novice. She was OUTSTANDING! When she got done, I literally gave her a HUGE hug, as I've had mosquitos do more painful blood extractions than she did... I mean this woman ROCKS! I look forward in working with the staff at his office - and of course with Dr. Chapman... They are all very professional and did I mention how awesome the blood taking lady is?... She scored a 25 on a 1 to 10 scale!

I like my Urologist but his staff and front office people are horrible. First, they never answer…read morethe phone if you call them. Second, many of them are rude or indifferent. They all look like they are bored or are doing you a favor by assisting you. You need to get some new blood in there. The folks you have there now are hurting your reputation.

I am extremely disappointed with North Alabama Urology's handling of my son's post-surgical care…read more My 13-month-old son recently had surgery, and his doctor prescribed 12 days of pain medication. Our insurance only approved 7 days initially due to a CDC-related policy limit. The hospital pharmacy told me we would need to pay out of pocket for the remaining days, which was frustrating, but I called our insurance and was told they would reimburse us if the prescribing doctor submitted or signed a prior authorization. When I contacted North Alabama Urology, I was told they do not do prior authorizations for medication. That is unacceptable. If a physician prescribes medication for a 13-month-old after surgery, then the office should be willing to complete the basic paperwork needed for insurance coverage. Families should not be left paying out of pocket or fighting insurance alone for medication the doctor determined was medically necessary. We have trusted Dr. Hicks with two of our children, but this office's handling of patient support and follow-through has been incredibly disappointing. Unfortunately, this experience has changed our opinion of the practice. We will not be returning, and we would not recommend this office to other families unless they improve how they support patients after surgery. Do better.
