I wanted to get Global Entry for me and my family. Because my airport (Portland) doesn't seem to conduct interviews, SeaTac was my only real option within a 3 hour radius. So I booked it for a Friday a few months out and decided to make a weekend out of it in Seattle. We arrived at least 30 minutes early to our appointment and they called us up to the window almost immediately. The officers were quite gruff and didn't say much, but they got us through and on our way in 10 minutes - talk about efficiency! All in all, I think it was worth doing so that I have less hassle on my next international flight. read more

When flying Icelandair home from Reykjavik, I usually end up arriving in Seattle and going through US Customs & Border Protection, prior to my connecting flight back home. The last time was just a couple days ago after finishing a most satisfying 4-day Laugavegur trail, followed by a pleasant side trip to Stykkishólmur and the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. This latest experience was smooth, with no issues. This was similar to previous experiences. I also easily finished my Global Entry Interview while I was here. The only confusion was trying to figure out where to go for my connecting flight after I was finished. Taking the train to the main terminal was easy enough, but from there required airport "Spidey sense" to not only find the Security Line, but the one that takes TSA Pre. Gayle and I did have an interesting "incident" here several years ago as we returned from Iceland. It was the Christmas Season and we had received our Iceland "Yule Lads" present on our door at our Reykjavik Hotel. That consisted of a Washington State apple, that we simply packed away without any additional thought. Fast forward to US Customs where the Beagle sniffed out our USA fruit, which necessitated a full search or our baggage. Those Yule Lads certainly had the last laugh. read more

They were helpful and easy to work with. Getting global entry was easy except for the long drive from our home in Southwest Washington. Setting up the appointment was also easy for six months out. Park in the airport parking lot and stay closest to the southern end of the airport and look for signs as you go into the terminal from the fourth floor walkways. This little office in SeaTac handles the interviews and fingerprints needed for the Global Entry program.You have to complete an application and pay the fee online, and then when approved, make an appointment to finish to process. There weren't a lot of appointment times available, and, given the location, I anticipated a lengthy visit. We were in and out in about 20 minutes, and part of that time was simply because I was ten minutes early for the appointment. The office is easy to find - just park in the main airport lot and head upstairs behind the Delta ticket counter, as they direct you. Once you're in the general area, you can't miss the signs. The office itself is small, and I worry about the Vitamin D levels of the folks who staff it - there's nary a window to be found. The office decor is about what you'd expect from a government agency, but it's comfortable enough while you wait, and the guy at the desk was friendly and funny. I signed in and was called at exactly my appointment time. The appointment itself took less than five minutes. The guy who interviewed me (if you can call it that) wasn't the friendliest, but he got the job done and explained things sufficiently. This is one of the easiest travel experiences I've ever had at SeaTac. I didn't even have to pay for a full hour of parking! read more

I have always wondered what was on the second floor of SeaTac airport. I also see people rushing about on the upper level and figured it was just administration offices. Well, I guess I was right. It appears that the majority of the rooms up there are designated to the individual airlines for business/administration and there is also a conference room up there for special meetings. Anyway, I had to go to U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) for my interview for the Global Entry program. If you don't know what Global Entry is a program that allows people who are pre-approved and deemed low-risk travelers to receive expedited clearance upon arrival into the United States. It comes with TSA Pre-check so that's an added bonus​ and allows entry through the land borders into the U.S. when entering from Canada and Mexico. It also allows expedited entry when flying back into the U.S. from international destinations. You can read about it on the CBP website and all the other programs that are available through CBP if you're interested​ (I know...I sound like a salesperson but I'm not affiliated with CBP​ or any agency like that). Anyway, I was super lucky to find an appointment at SeaTac as it appears they were booked out well into the end of March but it looks like someone​ canceled​ their appointment on the February day I went so I quickly scheduled the appointment online after getting a ​notification that my application was approved. If you can't get an appointment at SeaTac, there is another office in western Washington that might have appointments so make sure you check both before scheduling your appointment. I will admit I was a little nervous about my appointment. Although I have nothing to hide, I mean... come on....you're dealing with the people who protect the borders of the United States. They're official, you know? I arrived early for my appointment since if you're too late you end up having to reschedule and it's tough enough to get an appointment as it is. Like several others have said, you may anticipate a long visit but from the time my name was called until my fingerprints were taken it was about 5-8 minutes. I didn't have to show any of the supporting documentation I brought but your experience might not be the same. Anyway, then the sigh of relief came when the CBP agent explained when I'd receive my Global Entry card in the mail. Very pleasant experience overall. Nothing to worry about. Just read everything on your application and the FAQ's if you have questions before you go and bring documents to support what you entered on your application. I walked in earlier today with an appointment for January 2017, and waited about 20 minutes before they saw me. My lucky day, I thought! The guy at check-in gave me a disapproved look when I told him I didn't bring my printed conditional letter of approval and said he would have to look up my information. Turns out, he only needed my Global Entry number...which I already had. He already made the beginning of this experience horrible for me as he kept muttering in not-quite-under-his-breath that he had to do extra work for me. There were two female officers and one male officer doing the interviews. As it was an open floor plan, and I was sitting in the waiting area closest to one of the female officers. I could hear everything being asked, which mentally prepared me for what was to come. I ended up with the male officer. Perfect, I thought. I could just smile my way through this and just be my pleasant, happy self. I thought wrong. As I greeted the officer, he barely glanced my way and didn't even crack a smile when I smiled. I'm not saying that I have the smile of Angels, but I usually don't have a problem getting anyone to smile back at me when I'm trying to be nice! This could also just be my ego.The officer I sat down with was super scary and strict looking and I could feel myself being nervous around him. He asked me my date of birth and address, which I answered. I got fingerprinted all 10 fingers and he did a scan of my eyes without asking or saying a single word to me. I didn't even know where to look. And then he asked if I've ever been arrested. Before I even answered, he cut me off and started typing frantically. He then dismissed me. After just asking me those three questions, one that I was cut off before I could fully answer. And I left the office with such a bad feeling in my stomach. I didn't do anything wrong, but from the look on his face, I was sure I was denied. Just 4 feet from me, the female officer was explaining to someone what to expect after they get their card in the mail, and this male officer DISMISSED ME. It was a really bad way to start off my day. My whole interview took 3 minutes. For everyone else I saw, it probably took 15 minutes. Fast forward 6 hours....I got my letter of approval! Guess it really was my lucky day. Now I can use Global Entry for my trip to Asia in a few weeks. Total sigh of relief from me. I can sleep at night now. read more

I came here to enroll for Global Entry about two years ago (I was in my early 20's). I was very careful about following all of the instructions. It was difficult to get an appointment but I wrote a simple program using Selenium to monitor their website for cancelled appointments and was able to snag one much earlier. This US Customs & Border Protection office was incredibly slow and inefficient--I got here 10 minutes before my appointment time and ended up waiting an incredible 40 minutes before someone was free to see me. The guy who interviewed me didn't seem to know how to work the computer and typed very slowly with two fingers. I thought I was in some kind of a comedy show. I had to tell him how to right click. I'm not a citizen (US PR) so I provided my current passport as well as my previous three passports covering two decades; this was apparently not good enough. They wanted my first passport---the one that I used when I was a toddler. And then they grilled me about what my visa status was when I was 7 years old. I deduced that I was on my parent's F-1 visa since they were getting a PhD here. This took them 50 minutes. I'm sorry if I don't know where a 20-year-old passport is and I'm sorry that I don't know what my visa status at 7 years old was. "Well, we're not sure if this is going to be a red flag in your application!" Give me a break. This is THE embodiment of a security theater. I'm sure they all go play B.S. the card game with TSA and laugh about pretending like they do anything during smoke breaks. By the time they were done with me, it was standing room only in the waiting room. Way to go, CBP. I did get Global Entry, despite the officers at this office threatening that I wouldn't get it. I received my card in the mail a couple days later. So no, I don't think not providing my toddler passport raised any red flags two decades out. At least I didn't have to pay for this---thank you AmEx Platinum for covering fees. Anyhow, I had such a bad experience that now, two years later, I am adding this office to Yelp just so I can give this review. read more

I've had superb experiences in the recent past when visiting TSA (a couple of years ago), and Global Entry offices (this visit). First of all, this location is super accessible, you just go to the airport! Having the Link light rail drop you off at the airport station, and a 5 minute walk to the top floor, above the Delta check-in. It doesn't get any better than this! Coming from the light rail side of the terminal, take the elevator to the right of the Delta check-in area, to the M level. Then there's the service. Even though I arrived a few minutes late, due to 2 unscheduled waits on the track (dunno what their cause was, but it totaled a whooping 20 minutes delay), I wrote my name down and proceeded to pray they would see me. I was pleasantly shocked that my name was called next. I produced my passport and Washington ID, and then proceeded to fret about having forgotten to bring a printout of my conditional approval letter. The officer explained that it's not strictly needed, though, and he moved along with the process. Phewwww!!! By the way, the customs officer who helped me was outstanding in his professionalism and courteousness. A 6'2" specimen, with a dour face, in light urban armor, carrying a standard issue weapon on a black holster, he looked incredibly intimidating--a man of few friends. It also didn't help to think that he was holding my approval on the balance, nor that he asked for my fingerprints (all 10 fingers), and whether I had ever been fingerprinted or arrested--and he added, after I answered, "in or out of the country", as if to imply that I may be trying to use a loophole. He betrayed no emotions to my answers, so that was a little unnerving... However, I get it, custom officers are not there to make friends, but to evaluate whether applicants should be granted a privilege... But let me just state that even without a smile, not only was he courteous, but he provided unequivocal instructions, and even few tips on how to use my new Global Entry number--because, oh yeah--I was approved! The total time from walk-in to walk-out was 15 minutes! And this included the few minutes wait for my prints check to complete. read more
