It feels weird leaving a review on Yelp for the Department of Licensing, but I wanted to give a massive shout out to the best DMV experience I've ever had. I had an appointment to update my EDL as I realized it expired next year on my birthday (in early April, when I'll be out of the country). I looked online and they had multiple same-day appointments or ones roughly 3 weeks out, so I decided to do a same-day appointment about an hour and half later. I grabbed all my documents (I ended up not needed them since I already had my EDL and was just renewing but it was unclear based on the DOL website), then headed to Kent. My appt was at 10:45 but I showed up at 10:37. I checked in via text, then walked in. The front desk worker confirmed that it was indeed me and I did indeed check in online, then directed me to the waiting area. My number was called roughly 90 seconds later, and then I was able to get my eyes checked, take my picture, and confirm my information within the next couple minutes. I was back out at my car to leave at 10:42, before the time of my actual appointment. Huge shout out to the main representative I worked with, Ashley, who was kind, efficient, and fun in an environment that is typically perceived as none of those things. She also had the cutest pink keyboard and was a great representation of the WA DOL. read more

Had to go to the DMV in order to get the new Enhanced Real ID. Went on Friday, 5/16/25. Arrived at around 9:30 AM and had to wait in line at the entrance to get a number ticket (#421). At that time, they were at #360. The numbers were being called randomly at times for Walk-Ins and Appointments, so had to keep an eye on the monitor for the number and ding sound. The PA system or volume was so low you could hardly hear anything. Was sitting in the waiting area for over an hour. Got called up at 10:45 AM. Shared my required documents (Mail with Name and Home Address on it, a valid U.S. Passport) and current Driver's License. The lady who assisted me was very friendly and helpful. She was knowledgeable and provided adequate details and information about what the Real ID is included with - Radio Frequency Identification) technology, a unique identifier to confirm the authenticity of the ID. After verifying my information on the screen, she took a photo of me and requested the payment. It was only $21.00 since my current driver's license doesn't expire until 2027, so have to wait until 2026 to renew it for an additional 8-year one since it has to be within a year or less until your Driver's License expires to be able to get the extended one. Thanked the nice lady and exited the DMV. It was a good experience, overall... The waiting period was as expected, so be aware of that when you visit... Also, there aren't enough parking spaces close by during peak times, so you might have to park in the back or across the street. read more

I wouldn't normally bother to leave a review for the DOL as generally a licensing visit is not particularly a joy for anyone. However, after what I just experienced, I can't not say anything. The first time I came here years ago to get my license photo taken in person, the guy was so perverted and inappropriate that I felt extremely uncomfortable having him take my photo. I was clearly angry in the photo because of the things this man was saying to me. Fast-forward to now, I had an appointment. I walk up and the woman is immediately rolling her eyes and clearly annoyed. I'm an anxious person, so this made me start shaking and sweating and I was extremely uncomfortable. She was bossy, agitated, very short with me, and treating me like I was doing something wrong. I'm the kind of person who smiles at everyone, I'm kind, I go out of my way to make that known. She was so angry and irrationally taking it out on me that I was having trouble even functioning having my photo taken, doing the eye test, paying, all of it. Mind you, I had no complaints when I walked up, I was completely nice and smiling at her. I'm just honestly blown away by how horrible of an experience that was. Even somehow completely unprovoked, I haven't had that horrible of an experience with someone in a very long time. Can't wait to see how upset I look in this photo too, because apparently the people in this place absolutely hate their jobs and have no desire to be professional. Please do better. If you're so miserable that you live for making other people uncomfortable and leaving them worse than you found them, maybe don't work in such a human interaction- involved job. We usually go to the Tukwila location because they are kind, fast and efficient, but unfortunately they are not open on Saturdays so we visited the Kent location. What an awful experience. To start off, the older lady with the glasses at the check in area was so condescending to us even though we were so polite to her. So, not a great start. Then we were unfortunately given to Wilson, who obviously hates his job (as others have noted about him in previous reviews) and has no real knowledge of how things work. We were given COURT ISSUED paperwork by our lawyer to bring to the DMV to prevent a license suspension and Wilson seemed confused and had no clue what to do with it. He claims to have asked his supervisor and came back and was like "yah, we can't help you. You'll have to call the Dept. of Licensing customer service to handle that". Why would we have to call the DOL to help us when we are AT an actual DOL office in person? I knew he was wrong and that he and his "supervisor" just didn't have the training or knowledge in how to handle the situation. They should have looked into it further and did their job. We called our lawyer as soon as we left and told him what happened and he was highly annoyed and said the DOL was now in non compliance with the court for not issuing an automatic stay on the suspension. So we will be dealing with that as well. Not only was Wilson unknowledgable, but he was also extremely unprofessional and rude. I tried to explain to him that it's the actual law that they issue an automatic stay of license suspension after being shown the court document I brought to them and he stated "well, I'm not a lawyer, I don't know the laws". Ignorance is not an excuse to not follow state laws or court orders. If you hate your job that much, get a new one-and DOL, please train your employees on the laws of our state regarding suspensions and court ordered automatic stays. They are clueless and it could cost you a contempt charge. To anyone reading, skip this office and head to Tukwila. Have never had an issue with that location. read more

What is in the world is going on here? Made an appointment online several months ago for a permit (for our teen), no problems, did this in the past for another kid, easy! Current situation-went to make an appointment for his license, won't let me do it online due to vision being expired, all departments within a 50 mile radius is booked out for 60 effing days! I was told to refresh the site, fyi-it is not very Apple friendly, used to be as this isn't my first time making appointments with the DOL, so refresh like you're snagging concert tickets to a small exclusive venue. My favorite part is when you call it says all agents are busy with other callers, please call again, then proceeds to hang up. I had to call at least 7 times to get a call back option, that should be standard. Again WHAT IS GOING ON? read more

This office intentionally fails drivers who do not speak English! One lady intentionally failed a friend who passed the exam with everything perfect except for back in corner (which they intentionally set him up in the wrong place to do it). 4 marks off the exam... but everything else was good. 2 weeks later he retook the exam and did everything he's supposed to exactly. And they failed him anyways. His turns were great, stopping at stop sign before the white line.. turning correctly where there's a bus lane. NOTHING was wrong. They failed him anyways. read more

What an amazingly straightforward experience. I just needed a standard driver's license as I'd moved from CA to WA. Showed up with my valid CA license and $81 in cash with an appt at 8:30am. I had my temporary license in hand by 8:40am, including my vision test and having my photo taken. Office staff was kind, and DMV phone customer services was helpful when I had called the DMV about any requirements for getting an ID as well! read more

Anything that basically has to do with your driver's license or WA State ID, this is the place to go. Not to be confused with DMV, which is called the Department of Licensing jn Kent is where you go for any vehicle-related paperwork. I advise visiting the website and keeping an eye on the wait times. Earlier today, the wait time was close to an hour. Around 3pm, I check the site and lo and behold, the wait time is less than 5 minutes. I drove as fast as I legally could to the office! As soon as I walked in, there's a desk near the entrance and an employee gives me a number. I was called in less than 5 minutes. Woo hoo! I can now get my 3-wheel endorsement on my license. The lady behind the counter was really sweet and helpful when I told her I'd like to also keep my 2-wheel endorsement. Each counter has the ability to take your photo on the spot, which makes it easier. I was in and out of there in no time at all. The place is clean and organized with numerous seating. I bet it gets filled during busy times. I dinged them 1 star because there isn't much parking. I had gotten lucky and found a spot in front of the door but there were quite a few cars going in and out and it's not a very big lot. read more

Came in here to get my name change and was expecting a long wait. I walked in and was instantly greeted at the front and asked what I was wanting to do. He made sure I had all my documents and gave me a number. About 5 minutes later I was called to the desk number where Peter helped me. He was super helpful and entertaining as I went through the process. He advised me of certain things bc I also wanted to get an enhanced DL. Arrived on a cold rainy morning for my husband's 8:30am appointment he made online. I didn't have an appointment but needed to renew my license as well. To our dismay there was a line of 20 persons waiting outside for the door to open. Promptly at 8:30am a lady came out and asked who had appointments, luckily for us only a few had so we were one of the first to get to the counter. Excellent service! Got in at 8:30 AM and left at 9:00 AM, license renewed. Wasn't crowded at all, maybe about 15-20 people. Theresa M provided us with great customer service. Being retired, we had several questions with regards to costs related to the enhanced D/L. I've had an issue with an alleged car accident for the last two years. It caused me to have a suspended license for the last year- even though I was not in either car or even in the state at the time of the accident. I had dealt with insurance, collections, multiple DOLs, a lawyer, you name it and nothing was able to get this issue resolved. Today, I went in to the Kent DOL and was called to desk 4 with Landa. She was an absolute joy to talk to. She immediately understood the issue and was able to get through our case quickly and effectively. Without any hang ups we were in and out in ten minutes- full license restored. Not only was my issue resolved but I felt completely validated and supported for this never ending nightmare. I really liked how the space is set up to keep everyone safe through COVID. I was able to be seen a few minutes early and was out in a jiffy! I don't think my total trip was more than 10 minutes. Went here to renew my id n the employee at the door wouldn't let me in the door even tho I had my mask on covering my nose n mouth. She discriminated against me. Going to the DOL is never really fun and I've never had a great experience with the long wait time and rude people but today was way different! Even though their computers were down for a little bit they made sure to keep us updated on how it was going, what they were doing, and what we could do. Needed to change address on WDL after a move (btw, who does this within 10 days...? That statute needs changing) Figured it would take 1 hour of my allotted 30 min lunch. Their concierge customer service was a pleasant surprise - routed me to the right line for a quick pic, update info, pay and roll - in less than 10 mins. Also observed escorting elderly hard of hearing and providing assistance. What used to take all day is a thing of the past. Note: this was a Tuesday about 11:00 AM so other more popular times may be subject to other results. I was well pleased and complimented them on getting the quick trip down to a science. "Tell others, so we stay busy..." the clerks were all nice, had senses of humor and were efficient. No Zootopia sloth stereotypes here. Who would have thought I would give the Driver License 5 stars but miracles happen. I picked Thursday the week before month end to renew my license and was in and out in 20 minutes. It is interesting that the web site has a estimated wait time so you will have an idea before you get there. I was 5 minutes away when I checked and it was surprising accurate. Everyone was friendly today (I had to go through 3 people - assign number, collect fee and eye test and than photo). All of them were having a good day. They do move at government speed :) but we went through fairly fast and efficiently. The place was clean and bright so I can't give them any faults. read more
