    New Asia Market, Stallings

This place is bonkers. Aisles and aisles of Asian foods, all well stocked and all decently priced. Sauces, noodles, rices, a massive fresh produce section with fruits and, vegetables I've never seen before, freezers with fresh and ready to heat foods, ingredients for all sorts of interesting meals. The market is the size of a Publix or Winn-Dixie and has shopping carts and registers and specials and such. There is also a huge deli counter with prepared and hot foods you can take with you or just eat them here. I'm quite impressed and found some bok choi and a bottle of low sodium soy sauce that will be part of dinner one night this week! First it was Grand Asia Market and now it's New Asia Market. I'm not sure what happened or why they changed names all I know is I can't leave there without putting a dent in my bank account. I seem to day dream dishes I want to make as I walk the aisles and look at all the items on the racks. They had tons of fresh fruits and veggies. Most things are label but sometimes I find an item I have no idea what it is. The meat and seafood area also has tons of choices. I normally get the hot pot meat and the pork belly from there. There isn't an odor to this area either. I love the bakery and food court area. The bbq pork and the coconut bun are my favorites. Make sure you have cash for those areas if you are making a smaller purchase. I believe there is a $10 minimum for a card. Overall this is one of my favorite Asian markets. I seem to always find what I need for a dish here. The staff is friendly enough and the store is always clean. An older gentleman wearing an apron did come out of the restroom the last time I was there and went back to work so I have to deduct a star for that. This market is the real deal. I want to say it was a surprise to find "in these parts" but it's actually not far off the beaten path that is US 74/Independence. It's big, although not as big as a few other Asian markets in Charlotte. However they manage to cram just as much cozily in here and that's why I think it's my new favorite for general Asian food needs. They have mostly East Asian brands from China, Japan and Korea as far as I could tell. Lots of fresh fruit and veggies with a focus on what you can get more readily in Asia and can't find so easily in places like Harris Teeter or Food Lion. One whole row dedicated to noodles of all kinds. Freezer and refrigerator sections. One of the gems here is the massive selection of fresh fish. They will even prep and/or cook it for you at a small price. Considering the variety, I was impressed with the pricing. And lemme tell you, they really do have a lot of different fish in here. There is, of course, a section for rice with bags up to 50 lbs although they only have one or two Japanese brands and not my preferred ones. At the front is a restaurant, fresh buns with a variety of fillings and lots of baked breads, roll cakes and sweets to choose from. Staff didn't interact with me much but seemed nice from afar. Prices weren't horrible for fresh foods but for packaged sweets, in particular the Japanese ones, they were a bit high. I guess importing is getting more and more expensive these days.

Fresh international and Asian products. Great selections. I especially love the freshly prepared cooked food and steamed buns.

The quality of the food is SO BAD now, the new chef seems not care about these food at alll. I have been a loyal customer for over 5 year, this year's food is THE WORST. The box meal food taste all the same, the sesame chicken has SO MUCH sauce (which it shouldn't), the chow fon is so WATERY too I really hope there's an improvement on the cooking, it's sad to see my favorite store turning out this now.

This shop's only real draw for us really is the bakery near the entrance. Half of the shelves were still empty as the staff kept bringing goodies out, most of them still warm and steamy against the clear plastic sleeves that come in. The coconut bun, as with most things they have, was big enough to feed both of us, and a great value = me happy. But the other item we bought, which I can't remember the name of because it was so unimpressive, was a letdown.

While the Pineville location remains my favorite thanks to its larger food hall and dining options, the Independence store still delivers an impressive experience. The selection is enormous. You'll find fresh produce from around the world, exotic fruits and vegetables, live seafood, blue crabs, an on-site fishmonger, and a full-service butcher counter. The international grocery selection is where this store really shines. Aisles are packed with staples from across Asia, Europe, Latin America, and beyond. Whether you're shopping for Thai curry paste, Vietnamese rice noodles, Japanese snacks, Korean sauces, Spanish ingredients, or Eastern European treats, chances are you'll find it here. One feature I especially enjoy is the freezer section. The cases are organized by country and cuisine, making it easy to browse and discover new foods. It's a small detail, but it turns grocery shopping into a bit of an adventure. On this visit, I came specifically for Korean black bean paste, dark soy sauce, and fresh green beans. Naturally, I left with a few extras. The candy aisle is dangerous in the best possible way. Their coconut candies are always tempting, and I can never resist grabbing a bag of Thai coffee candies while I'm there. The store has a large private parking lot and a loyalty program that offers additional discounts at checkout. If you're a frequent shopper, it's worth signing up. Is it as polished as some specialty markets? No. Is it one of the most interesting grocery stores in Charlotte? Absolutely. Give yourself time when you visit. This isn't the kind of place where you run in for one item and leave five minutes later. It's a place to wander, explore, and discover something new around every corner. Life is too short not to eat well, Charlotte. Grab a cart, take your time, and eat your way through Super G Mart.

The one at SouthPark is about the same size but more of a challenge to get in/out of since it's in the midst of the SouthPark traffic. I was tasked with the purchase of the Christmas Turkey. My mission: to find a fresh NOT frozen whole turkey, about 12 pounds, won't expire before 12/25, organic and NOT a Butterball brand. A challenging mission you might say but I felt like I was up to it. The Thanksgiving birds where purchased at the Peach Stand in Fort Mill. We got two of them and they were exceptional, two birds easily fed 30 hungry people. Sadly, they had only the frozen ones that were left over from Thanksgiving. After several google searches and calling around, I ended up here. There must have been about a 1/2 dozens birds that all fit the bill though most of them were more in the 13 to 15 pound range. Size matters here because it's going in a deep fry cooker over propane with limited capacity. I took some photos and reviewed it with the Chef and got a 'thumbs up AND a 'smiley face' emoji. The countdown to Christmas is on!

As a transplant to Charlotte for work, I'm always searching for the ingredients and flavors I grew up with, and this place delivers. From the fresh seafood counter -- where you'll find beautiful tiger prawns -- to the endless rows of fish sauce, oyster sauce, and every variety of soy sauce imaginable (sweet, dark, mushroom, Japanese), the selection is impressive. The aisles are thoughtfully organized by cuisine and region, which makes navigating the store surprisingly easy, even if you're new to Asian markets. The frozen section alone is worth the trip. If you're looking for dumplings -- Chinese, Japanese, Korean, even Nepalese -- they've got you covered. And don't sleep on the handmade crepe cakes in the freezer. Yes, they're about $25, but they're stunning and absolutely delicious. Honestly, they rival the famous crepe cakes from Lady M in the San Francisco Bay Area, where those cakes can easily run over $100. At this price point, it feels like a steal -- and you'll definitely impress your guests. The produce section is another highlight. The ginger is incredibly fresh, and the variety is fantastic -- from gai lan and sweet chives to cebollitas (Mexican green onions) and crisp green beans. It's a true sensory experience for anyone who loves to cook. This isn't a trendy, boutique grocery store, and that's exactly the charm. It's old-school, practical, and stocked with the essentials. Toward the back right corner, you'll find pallets of noodles in every style -- Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean -- everything you could possibly need for home cooking. The butcher and fishmonger are also available to help, which adds a nice personal touch to the shopping experience. There's also a bakery inside with beautiful fruit-and-cream cakes -- the kind you'll recognize if you've ever celebrated in an Asian household. Light, fresh, and not overly sweet. And if you're a coffee lover, keep an eye out for Café du Monde coffee -- it's usually several dollars cheaper here than at typical grocery stores. A few friendly tips: * Go with a plan -- this place can be overwhelming in the best way. * Don't bring a big entourage unless they're ready to explore. * And if you visit the Pineville location, go hungry -- the food court alone is worth the trip. Both locations are fantastic, but the Pineville store is newer, larger, and especially fun to explore. Shop curious, cook boldly, and enjoy the adventure.
