Do your research and PLAN AHEAD!!! Saturdays are the Kids' Competition. If you want to see impressive Sandcastles, don't go on Saturday. If you just want to check out vendors and entertainment, Saturday is fine. Sundays are the Adults' Competition. The best time to see the finished, impressive sandcastles is between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm. Judging happens after 2:00 pm and after 4-ish the tide starts to creep in. I've been going to Sandcastles every year and it's such a great time. Go early and prepare to fight parking, traffic and crowds. Also, be ready to enjoy a little stroll from your parking space to Seacoast Drive. IB is a laid-back, beach town with laid-back locals. Try to act like a local and chill a little, and you'll have a great time. If you tend to get all bent out of shape about crowds and traffic, then why the heck are you going to a street fair anyway? I highly recommend this event, but again, PLAN AHEAD!!! (More info on U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition's website.)

It's so far down the coast you can actually spot the lights of Tijuana on your way in. While the trip didn't last long (the weather wasn't very kind) this campsite was impressive. They have access to clean water, bathrooms, and a direct view of the ocean. I really couldn't ask for more. Important to note: The road to the campsite is shut down around 8pm for security reasons. Once the entry to the road is locked, it's around a mile walk to the site itself. This was walk pretty miserable in pouring rain, so I wouldn't suggest Ubering to bars at night. Otherwise, I'd highly recommend this white sandy beach and site for anyone looking for a quick/easy getaway.

Thankfully , we don't swim in the ocean so we are marked safe from the doo-doo . Pricing for beach front was $85 water and electric , no sewage (go figure). You're literally on the beach so we loved that with the view . Staff here needs work.. we were surprised by how rude and dismissive she was. When we arrived she said were too early ( we were THREE minutes early ). I said isn't it almost time ? She snapped at me with "ya well there nobody here to check you in so either wait in line or go park over there" and then walked away . So if you're coming here , just know you'll have to wait in line until the EXACT time. I've been camping since I was a baby and I've never experienced such strict regulations . Other than that , spaces are small so I wouldn't recommend a large trailer . But it was great for three days !

When I was a kid most Easter's & Birthday parties were here. One park has a pier to fish the other has a loading deck for boats. When I was a teenager I came here as well but not for family gatherings but to hang out with friends. And it's a good spot to bring girls late at night & you know....play BINGO in the back seat :) the first park has alot of parking spots for that. Now that I'm a dad & family man I come again for birthday parties & also just to hang with family to grill & see the low riders on weekends. My favorite reason to come tho is to see the Sunsets with my daughters, have a late picnic, listen to music & just watch the sun set, love it. Me & my family's favorite park in the South Bay hands down. Now with the Gaylord Resort next door the park looks better & is extended. We will continue to go & see those sunsets & one day I'll bring my grandkids here too. See you soon J Street Park.
