I'd purchased two money orders a couple of days earlier, so I wasn't concerned. But--I should've been. First, she says the post office cannot accept $100 bills. I'd just used them two days earlier, I said. She claimed policy had changed in the previous 24 hours. Then--she also refused to postmark my mail. Vacation hold for my mail was supposed to end 2 days ago... still haven't received our mail. Totally responsibility of our mail carrier. Called this location (who's number is listed as 510-649-6717 and get a msg that the number has been disconnected. So I call the main number and wait on hold for 45 min. Then after spending 10 min filing a report, only to be told that it will be 2-4 business days before they act on it. Well we are leaving town again in 2 days! So then they told me if I need it sooner that I will have to call the local office at 510-649-6717 (the number that is disconnected). Icing on the cake is that I received an email confirmation for the ticket, it was addressed to "Thomas Lee". Who the heck is Thomas Lee??? Not me.... read more

Today I used this post office to mail something to my youngest brother. The experience was A-OK. The clerk was friendly and helpful. There were three people in front of me. The woman being helped was a real "Chatty Cathy", carrying on an extended conversation w/ the clerk. That added to the wait time and was annoying. The person behind her seemed unprepared to mail her packages and the clerk was patient and helpful. The next woman was prepared and took almost no time and then it was my turn. I do a lot of mailing, and live and work just three blocks from the Landscape office at Colusa and Solano. The clerks were rude and surly more than four times, often enough that I switched to the Albany post office, a mile down the street. If your trip to the post office is going to include dealing with the employees, avoid the Landscape post office. read more

There are some good employees here, but there's one worker in particular who, as another reviewer said, needs to be fired - 'clerk 15' it says on my final receipt (which i'm hanging on to for dear life because she threw all the individual box receipts in the trash while I was begging her to give them to me). After smugly refusing to give us the individual receipts because 'I don't have to . .' , she rejected one of the book boxes we were mailing book rate because she saw a hand towel through a hole in the side. My daughter offered to open the box and show her that she'd used the small towels because the books didn't quite fit (books - 40 pounds, hand towels aprox 6 oz), but all she got in reply was "Well, why didn't you use a better box?' Is she kidding? Ok, we'll switch out the old, worn hand towels for a strip of bubble wrap, if that would please your majesty. Yow! Sounds like many Yelpers had to deal with the Postmistress from Hell. There were only two clerks when I went in mid-afternoon on a weekday. The woman at the other station seemed pleasant enough but the fellow who waited on me was very patient, friendly and helpful. I had about 7 or 8 packages to mail from Media Mail to First Class to Priority Mail. One had a prepaid label and the others had stamps on them with my "guesstimate" in postage plus a post-it note with the total values of the stamps. The clerk that helped me was so happy that I had written out the stamps values on the packages. He smiled and thanked me for each package. Some were off by only a few cents while others had $3+ postage due on them. He congratulated me on the ones that I only missed by a few cents and for the others, "Yeah that one is heavier than it looks! " All in all a very pleasant experience. I know post offices in general are not usually known for good service, but today's experience for me was perfect. When I lived near one post office in Berkeley there were a couple of clerks there that were mean and ornery without any provocation. I sometimes would pass on my turn till I got one of the nice clerks. I have worked in public service for years and know the importance of being friendly which is not always easy when you have difficult customers. I hated those mean clerks who were nasty all the time and were never nice to you even when you were nice to them. But I digress.....Hope you will get the very nice clerk I had today when you go to the Landscape PO. read more

Not sure why all the bad reviews. I hate almost every post office I have ever been in and have reviewed a bunch of them because I do a lot of mailing. I am the first one to complain about the usually awful service one gets from the USPS but this one is great. All the people who work here that I have ever dealt with are very nice and the lines are usually not bad--when there is a line at all. I often go out of my way to go here rather than deal with the rude morons at closer branches. HINT: park at Andronico's, walk through Andronico's with a "hmmmm...do they have what I want" expression on your face and then exit Andronico's through the front. Voila! Free, easy parking! (I only say this because it is a big lot and you are never depriving anyone who really wants to shop there of a parking space). read more

Landscape Station post office is an integral part of the south Solano community, providing a place for neighbors to meet and talk, within easy walking distance for many who live in the surrounding area (but who don't often surf the net or post reviews on Yelp). I've had a post office box at the Landscape Station for the past decade, and always appreciated prompt, friendly service at the window, and the added benefit of being at the post office "where everyone knows your name." The recent consideration of closing Landscape Station has unfortunately led to high turnover of postal staff, as long-term employees who knew all the names of local customers requested and received transfers to other positions. read more

The lady behind the glass is about as rude, unhelpful, and a mean demeanor. I came back twice because I was getting a po box (already paid ) and apparently did not have the application. I printed out what the computer have me print out and AGAIN I did not have the correct application. The other gentleman was nice enough to help and I got an application and filled it out. I just moved and have no printer yet. The lady i don't know her name needs to help people navigate your system and not just blatantly turn you away with out even given any info on where to get this so called application?! So what if I walked in off the street and wanted to apply for a po box ? Do you send people out on the world blindly for an application!? I'm sure a cushy governmental job that you can do anything without being fired. Maybe instead of being rude and talk over people you should help them. I sometimes wonder if people down-review this branch in order to keep down the lines. I wonder this, because it is one of the few post office branches that I've found where I reach the window in a relatively short amount of time after I walk in the door (even with only 1 clerk working, which is usually the case). I rarely mail anything, and when I do it's only because I HAVE to, so it's almost always something complicated, and I rarely know the proper way to do it. Despite that fact, the clerks have always been reasonably friendly (I don't expect them to jump for joy) in telling me the proper way to box or tape or label my package/letter. In general the postal system could likely benefit from an overhaul in general, but in terms of specific branches, this one is usually fast, efficient, and helpful, which is all I expect. It's usually quiet and orderly which is icing on the cake, especially if you compare it to your time in the Main Branch. They also have tape and pens that actually work, which is far more than I can say for the Main Albany branch (I've NEVER had a working pen there), something that comes in handy if you've forgotten a form and don't routinely carry tape/pens in your pockets. Go there if you want to get something done, and get out, not if you want someone to cater to you, would be my advice. read more

I stopped going to this post office about a year ago - fled this post office I should say - and started using the Albany PO further down Solano Ave, despite that one being further from my home. I'm happy to hear that this Landscape branch is on the chopping block for closure, and I will probably throw a little party with some sparkling wine to mark the occasion, once I see CLOSED written in big letters across the windows. It's unfortunate that I cannot use this post office, as I often need to ship things 3 or 4 days a week, and it's the most convenient branch for me to get to. In the days when I did brave this post office I had to brace myself for the experience. The service was positively glacial. It would have been quicker to strap my packages to carrier pigeons. There was one older man, looked like he was in his 80's, who always gave the impression that this was his first day on the job. He didn't seem to know what keys to type, how to make change -- real basic stuff was very confusing for him. He more than once over-charged me for a mailing service, whereby I had to return, get back in line, and do it all over again. When I got back up to his window he looked at me as though I'd made the mistake, and grudgingly handed me back the money he'd overcharged me. Two of the regular women clerks (who may no longer work there, one can only hope) seemed to be related, were similar in appearance and demeanor. They were openly hostile, snide, impatient and sarcastic to any customer who asked them a question they did not like or understand. Heaven help anyone who had several questions for them at one time. The last straw came for me one day when I had a package to mail with Delivery Confirmation and Insurance. You'd think I was asking for her first born child. I was spoken to as though I were the village idiot and the most reviled person she had ever encountered in her life. It had been a long day for me too, I was tired and really fed up with their attitude at this point and said, in a calm voice: "Why are you so grouchy?" Actually a lady-like comment. This woman could then clearly be heard mocking me, in a sing-song voice, to her sister or cousin or girlfriend, over and over again, between peals of insane laughter: "Why are you so grouchy? Why are you so grouchy?" I felt a little queasy at the open rudeness and outrageous unprofessionalism. I knew they were safe in their government jobs, probably looking at a nice, fat pension, and that any complaint I filed would probably be ignored, and here I was struggling to make ends meet. I started using the Albany PO down Solano, which is open Saturdays, even better, as this one isn't, and only wish I'd never gone into this branch. The only reason that this is a two star review is because of the location. It is just where you want a post office to be. Other than that, it is quite horrible. The lines are awful and the staff are unbelievably slow, and seemingly quite unaware of their customers. The clerks inside have an ability to make me feel quite stupid because I don't know every required form, weight, size or whatever. They seem to get surlier as the day goes on. I also use the main Post Office in Hunters Point SF, a very down market location, where the staff are constantly pleasant, cheerful and helpful. What a difference. read more

They lost my package, are rude, and can't keep their story straight. About two weeks ago, I, like an idiot, dropped off a package that was actually meant for UPS (hey, USPS and UPS is only a 1 letter difference!), and walk out the door. A week goes by, and still no tracking information from UPS. OK. I head over to the post office, approach the counter, and ask something along the lines of: "What happens to packages that are meant for UPS but dropped off at this post office?" Clerk reply: "It isn't here. It's gone. Everything gets cleared out of here at the end of the day." Me: "OK, but I just want to make sure my package made it to the hands of UPS." Clerk: "If we see a package intended for UPS or Fedex we notify them so they can pick them up." Me: "Excellent. Thanks." Another week goes by....still no tracking reported from UPS. Package is definitely lost. I go back to the post office. Ask the same woman what's up. This time she continues to repeat "I have no idea" when I ask her what could have happened to it. "Don't you notify UPS and have the package relayed at the end of the day?" "Nope. I have no idea. Everything gets cleared out of here every 2 hours. Call customer support (hands me brochure)". Yes, I'm an idiot for bringing a UPS package to the post office, but it was an honest mistake. All I wanted was information on where the package may have ended up, and all they could tell me at this P.O.S. post office is "I have no idea." More than $300 worth of inventory...gone. read more

Yes, they are less rude since the old manager left, but for the second time, they simply stopped delivering mail to my PO box. When I asked why, a postal worker who said "I don't work here" -- try to sort that one out! -- told me it was because I hadn't paid my bill. Each and every time at this branch is worse than the previous. Today....supposed to open at 9 am. Nobody is there until 9:03 and then two clerks do nothing but open the front door and disappear. A line forms OUT THE DOOR. One clerk, at 9:08, moves the carts with envelopes for sale out into the lobby, but never looks at us, never engages. Finally, a clerk opens the window, at 9:12, and tells those of us in the front of the line that she does't have access to the safe and therefore CREDIT transactions only and NO STAMPS for sale. She can't get the safe open. This is not cool for all the old people in line who seem to work with CASH, and the people out the door are waiting in vain, since the clerk only tells the first few people. In other words, most of the people have to stand in line for a very long time and then just be turned away. Just shut this branch down...it's a mess. All in all, it took 20 minutes for me to mail one envelope to England and I was 2nd in line!!!!! Go to another branch read more

The lady clerk who works at this post office and is there 100% of the time is very nice and helpful, but my is she ever SLOWWWWW! Please add another person to help her out during busy hours! I was there a couple of days ago in the afternoon, there were three persons ahead of me and five more showed up behind me. 25 minutes passed and we were all still in our original places in line. What could possibly take so long, ,we were wondering? Four of us finally decided to leave and try another USPS location while the remaining souls were shaking their heads uttering: "unbelievable!" But out of being politically correct and polite no one voiced their dissatisfaction with the service (or lack there of). And this complaint is not based on one experience alone. I held a box at this post office for about two years before I completely stopped working in Berkeley. This had not been my first choice, as the Shattuck Avenue post office in the Ghetto Gourmet area would have been closer to a previous place of work--at the time I needed the p o box, there had been a wait list at the Shattuck location. Just two days ago I happened to be in town and mailed some items here. The service has remained the same slow service I remembered, and now there are no Saturday window hours apparently, according to the usps.com site. At least the clerk helping me at the window this time was courteous. read more

I hate coming here, but it's so much closer than any other branch that I periodically try them again. It is a downright comical experience using this post-office. It feels like the Soup Nazi episode from Seinfeld dealing with the notorious employees. They refused to take a package because I had apparently used the 'wrong' tape one time (though it was legit packing tape). "No post for you!" I only go there because it's so close to home but I'm nervous everytime and have to stifle laughs hearing the employees deal with exasperated customers in front of me. It's classic! Today I sat there while they went on and on about how to get more taxes back meanwhile they ignored me for several minutes. When they finally called me to the counter I said I needed a piece of tape to close my box and she said I had to buy a roll of tape. A roll of tape to close one small box!! I am updating my review because this post office has gotten much, much better in recent months. I know that this post office is on the proposed chopping block for closure, but I also learned that it is profitable. If they continue to clean it up, and if the employees continue to be more friendly (than they used to be), there is potential here. They need to renovate the place though. I suggest removing the bullet proof shield between employees and patrons and keeping the lobby clean (as a start). read more

I thought I was maybe the only one who had an issue recently with this USPS location, but after reading the review, I see I am not alone.This organization is perhaps the only group of workers left in the US that really feel they can behave as they do to customers in 2015. Absolutely unbelievable. I went to mail a package which was well below size restrictions according to the web site. The clerk, who is mentioned in another post (lady with glasses) said if it didn't fit in the window, she didn't have to accept it. Huh? I have been to other locations where they have a clerk retrieve the package and continue with the process. When I suggested there was no such postal regulation limiting the size of a package as she indicated, she acted if I was out of my mind. When I challenged her to show me the regulation, she said there was nothing she was going to do about it and I should take it to another location. Ok, I will. I mail 3-4 packages a week amounting to $500 - $700 a month in shipping cost. I am more than happy to take my business elsewhere like FedEx. Those folks practically open my car door and serve me a latte when I show up. I don't usually let something like this bother me, but the behavior and attitude is so outrageous, I felt I had to let folks know. Normally I would stick up for union workers at a time when this country needs to believe in the success of our workers and economy, but these employees have no need to worry about looking for and keeping a job in todays economy need to see what its like for the rest of us.
