On January 6, 2026, at approximately 7:40 PM, I visited the 271 Cadman Plaza post office to drop off a package and purchase a money order. During this interaction, the postal employee on duty was hostile and unprofessional. During the exchange, the employee used homophobic slurs directed at me. This occurred after a verbal exchange where he displayed an aggressive attitude toward me. Regardless of any disagreement, the use of slurs and discriminatory language by a federal employee is unacceptable and constitutes misconduct. I am requesting a formal investigation into this incident, including review of security footage and any witness accounts. I expect appropriate disciplinary action to be taken. I also have video evidence of the employee refusing to provide a receipt upon request and intentionally delaying service for approximately 15 minutes in a retaliatory manner. This video is available upon request. I also asked for the supervisor, but she was acting like she didn't wanna be involved. This post office is so unprofessional. It's ridiculous. I went in just to drop off a package and leave. Mind you I had my dog with me. My local post office lets dogs in so I figured this one wouldn't have minded. I walked in and stood in line it was okay no one was bothering me. This lady came up to me idk if she worked there she didn't have a shirt that said post office or anything. She yelled at me and told me dogs were allowed. I told her I just needed to drop off a package and she rudely told me to go drop it off at the drop off box. Services was awful workers "worker" wasn't nice. Like she totally could have just let me drop off my package and then I can leave. Mind you all my dog was doing was sitting tiny little dog not yappy nothing. My dog didn't even do anything and she had a big problem with my dog. At least she can just be nice about it and I would have totally left. I shouldn't have dropped off my package but I did cause I was frustrated and needed to drop it off. I didn't intend to leave another review.But it seems the tips/check-in feature doesn't work the way it used to. I have a Post Office box at this location and it can be convenient when the hours are actually operating as listed. I'm mostly come here on the weekends and the late afternoon. And it hasn't been a problem up until now. I got there at 5 PM on Sunday and they were closed. Usually this location is open at least until about 10 PM. But I don't know what's going on.It's the main Post Office. Service here is definitely a hit or miss.... some agents are nice. Some people are not. Sometime ls your mail is in your box, sometime, i's not. Hopefully gets better. read more

While the building itself is beautiful, the experience really disappoints. There's always a line at this post office, and it's unclear whether there's 1 or 2 lines since one sign seems to always be flipped around. The passport services haven't been open every time I've come by, and the shelves look stripped and barren. All the post offices I've grown up going to sold a variety of envelopes/puffy envelopes for fragile items and this location sells absolutely nothing beyond the basic priority/flat rate packaging - not even greeting cards! It might be due to the long lines, but the service is also on the snappier side. Be ready to listen closely and follow directions! I'm thinking about investing in a small scale and label printer and ship from home. read more

The stamp printer machine is down in the lobby so you get to talk to either a bored Chinese guy whose entire conversation with me was saying "no" and turning his back or an old black guy who 1) said their card reader doesn't work because their WiFi is down (they only have one WiFi?) and 2) was very keen to instruct me on where to stand in the line and 3) refused to sell me a stamp. read more

This branch has truly the worst service of any post office branch. I get that it sucks to work there, and probably extra much with the Brooklyn Heights and court system crowd, but man oh man, there's one lady who will rip you a new one the second you step up to her window no matter what you do. I've learned my lesson about having the address for my package written on it in advance when I walk up, so I thought I might not get yelled at this time and I got yelled at anyway for putting my package down on the counter before she'd spoken to me. I got yelled at once for putting an umbrella on the side counter, for not writing an address down... I think they're just looking for a fight. I can truly keep my mouth shut and still be yelled at every time. I have a ton of empathy for postal workers and absolutely love the ones who deliver around here, and I don't even think they owe us extra customer service--they're government workers and it's a hard time to be that. But i truly feel like a human punching bag every time I go there... maybe it's worth paying more for ups, damn. read more

Today was a day that involved going on a joyride regarding postal service. USPS rarely fails to provide a seamless experience: rather, it is often aggravating. After walking this far up to the post office lugging the merchandise I needed to send, I finally arrived at the window. The wait was slow and painful. They had some markers on the floor for social distancing. I already helped myself to the free priority box and had the self addressed label. All I needed was to drop it off at the window. Alas, not here. The employee behind the window would not give me a self adhesive pouch to slip my label on the box. Instead, he suggested to buy a roll of tape for $5. Oh really? Had I known, i would have brought my own. I wasn't looking to buy my 4th roll of tape that I rarely use. In addition, I couldn't even borrow some tape. Bah Humbug. Out of principle, I left and saw the massive line waiting for service. Good luck. I try to avoid visits to the post office. Most are useless. read more

While there were no long lines, perhaps because it was the day after Thanksgiving, the people behind the counter were rude and offered poor service. I brought in a passport renewal application with my passport enclosed in the envelope. I wished to get a return registered receipt for it. The clerk told me I couldn't mail it that way because I had tape on the back of the envelope. I then asked if I could mail it by certified. When I asked for a form she very abruptly told me to go to the desk and get one. I told her there were no forms for that at the desk. She said she glad no forms and didn't seem to know how to resolve the issue. The young woman at the next counter, one of the only two counters open, told her she had some forms, which the clerk then reluctant gave me. I started to step to one side to fill it out when she barked at me to go to the desk and then go to the front of the line. When my turn on line came, the other clerk was free. I asked her if she had anything to remove the tape or cover it up. She did not hear me and thought I was asking the same question over again. The two women behind the counter then proceeded to have a long conversation about how bad customers are and complaining about me in particular. When I got her attention to ask if she had something to cover the tape, she said no. and continued with her conversation instead of giving her attention to processing my certified envelope. Sending one's passport out by mail is a serious task, which naturally involves anxiety about insuring it will arrive safely at its destination. I did not know of any existing rule regarding no tape for return registered mail when I prepared my envelope. She did not answer any further questions I had, continuing to talk to her co worker instead of having her attention to the task at hand, completing my transaction. From 2 to 3!!! I had a pleasant experience when I came to USPS a couple weeks ago. There was someone working there talking to people in line and directing them to the right kiosk. Usually this location seems understaffed, so it was really nice to see employees available and eager to help! I had to have my wedding invitations hand cancelled (meaning having the stamps " hand stamped ") and the person helping me was very nice. She was happy to do it and the letters got out earlier than estimated. She was even being chatty and asking about the wedding and recommending stamps. I think the experience here is significantly better if you go during a lull - plan your USPS trip around timing. read more

I've always had a good experience here at Cadman Plaza. True the lines are sometimes long but the workers don't hold back, they work and they're pleasant. I've seen people being rude and not everyone has the ability to deal with rude folks. Extremely poor and surly service. Got the feeling that the postal clerk who waited on me ( slim, about 30 years old) does not like working with white customers. She was not wearing any kind of name tag or badge. I went to pick up a package and I was courteous to her the whole time. First she told me that I was at the wrong post office. When I told her the notification I received indicated it was at Cadman Plaza she accused me of having an attitude. She asked me for my ID and then threw it back at me after she looked at it. The workers here are lazy and lie about envelope weight by overestimating so that the customer pays more in postage. Do not trust this post office to hand-cancel your mail and be trustworthy in sharing the correct stamps required for postage. For context, a week prior to mailing my wedding invitations, I weighed my invitations at this post office and two other post offices (including the large James A. Farley USPS near Penn Station). All of them consistently told me the same amount of postage, which I purchased and later affixed to my envelopes. However, when I returned to this post office a week later to mail my invitations, they changed (read: lied/made up) up the postage amount and in fact added 1 oz to the envelope weight, which would've made me have to purchase more stamps for my wedding invitations. They also made excuses about hand-cancelling and how it would cost me "so much money" without ever sharing how much. I didn't trust the worker from her unprofessional attitude and the fact that other post offices in the area (including this one) had told me something otherwise. Because of that, I left and made the trek to Manhattan to get my invitations hand-cancelled and sent out. The James A. Farley post-office near Penn Station hand-cancelled my first 50 invitations for free, and only charged me around $4 for the remaining ~90-100. They never told me that my mail had the incorrect amount of stamps, thus proving that the Cadman USPS worker lied. The invitations got to recipients within 2 business days without me ever having to purchase extra postage. Had I listened to the worker at this Cadman Plaza post office, I would've spent hundreds more dollars. Avoid them at all cost. They're lazy liars. read more

I know this because I have no life whatsoever, and I was home the entire day including three hours before and after your website says that you stopped by. This is for the operator at 1-800-ASK-USPS. You refused to help me because I asked you a question. You operate a phone line that actually has "ask" in the name. You work in CUSTOMER SERVICE. Your entire job exists to answer questions of the customers who call you. And yet, when I asked you a question, you acted indignant, as if I had asked you to clean my excrement off of your desk. Then you asked me to hold, and audibly complained to your co-worker, "My head hurts." And then eventually hung up on me when you realized I was willing to wait. This is for the woman who runs the mail pickup station. I appreciate you. I appreciate the uncanny speed with which you determined that you can't help me in any way. I appreciate you admitting that the truck probably never tried to deliver my package, and I appreciate you offering me the phone number of the supervisors who would be able to find out where that package was. I also appreciate you telling me to call them repeatedly, because "They are gonna try to not answer the phone." Well, they succeeded. But you earned the USPS an extra star for your candor. read more

Like many others on here, I go to this main branch because of the extended hours (They also used to be open on Sundays for drop offs alone, but I don't think that applies anymore). I must say that at least 12 years or so ago this place was MUCH worse but in the past five years or so they've gotten their act together in various ways including customer service, teller competence and attitude, and having machines that actually work. Well, the last part really has just been in the last year or so. All that said, its no longer a burden to come here though there will be more than a few times where you have to wait in line for an extended amount of time - but that's par for the course. I've found many of the other locations - especially the one in Bed-Stuy - to be a lot worse run. Hopefully this doesn't mean that I will be accumulating any missing mail and packages soon. read more

THE WORST! They never deliver packages. Instead, the drivers leave notifications for "attempted delivery," when the client is home the entire day! They just don't bother to knock or go to apartments. And forgot about trying to call to speak to a live representative - it takes forever! Even when you do get through, the problem is still not resolved and your packages (multiple) are still missing a week later... This post office is so bad that it's a running joke in my family. Long lines, angry managers (esp that infamous tall guy who claims he's just a "stickler for rules" but in fact is rude, sarcastic, combative, and literally starts fights with people, I've seen it almost every time I've been in there!), dirty, grim, poorly run. Huge, ornate, and fairly efficient PO in my hood\ added bonuses: open till 8pm!! Has a nice view! Conveniently located with decent street parking out front. As far as Post Offices, this one doesn't piss me off as much as others! However, beware if you go in the evening, for this one guy (I'll post a pic). He just goes from clerk window to window, just chatting away about his life, dates, work, finances etc with the postal workers, while now the line is growing throughout the facility! This USPS location isn't as bad as people are saying. Like other reviews mentioned, the self drop-off slot for pre-paid packages is still out of service, which docks a star for me. But after that I only had to wait about 5 mins in line to drop off my package, and the 3 ladies working at the counter were perfectly friendly and polite. I went at 6:30 pm on a Friday, so I was expecting to have a longer wait time, but it was a very efficient trip. read more

they are stealing items from packages, and retapping them back up especially if the packages have clear tape. within one week i've had two packages delivered on different days, and both have missing items! make sure to not use clear tape to close up your packages, use a stronger different color tape or risk these dishonest workers to steal your belongings. i will complain and have this post office investigated!! read more

Idk why there's so many bad reviews, guess it's based on experience. I go here all the time to check a mailbox they have for me behind the counter. I've seen everyone get treated so nicely except the people with attitude and bugging out. I've been there crying (personal issues) and nobody was mean or rude, the woman tried to console me over that I didn't get my mail still. Everyone who has seen me at the counter are incredibly nice. There's also a gentleman who said he is going to extend my mailbox until I get the letter. HRA was supposed to send me a metrocard back in March and I still haven't gotten it. Fuck hra.
