The worst post office in the nation. I don't even need to look at a ranking. I know this to be true. Receiving a pink USPS slip in your mailbox can straight up ruin your day. So why is the Adelphi Station the worst? - It is only open from 9 to 5. You know, WHEN I'M AT WORK. - There are, at most, one and a half clerks working at any time, but definitely at least 10 angry customers waiting in line. - I say "one and a half clerks," because one of the clerks is shooting the shit and wandering around the office instead of assisting customers. - 99% of the interactions conducted in this post office begin with the clerk already pissed at you before you even open your mouth. I am constantly being yelled at when I am in this post office. - Granted, the customer is almost always doing or saying the wrong thing, perhaps because there is no signage that would otherwise assist you, and whatever signage is present is immediately and vehemently contradicted by the clerk. - Sometimes if you're here to just pick up a package, someone will yell PICKIN UP? and you'll get serviced before everyone else waiting in line. Why does this make Adephi the worst? Because sometimes someone isn't there yelling PICKIN UP? and you stand in line for 45 minutes waiting for this miraculous thing to happen, and it's even worse than not knowing that expedited PICKIN UP was possible at all. The only reason I am giving this post office two stars instead of one is that this morning, two different clerks called me "ma'am" and "honey" in a moderately patient tone of voice. You see how I'm grasping at straws to find something nice to say about Adelphi Station? I should also note that this kindness can probably be attributed to arriving at 8:45 and being the fifth customer in line. I don't understand why it is that when I order something it could never be delivered into my mailbox; and even if I sign the slip asking them to leave the package they never do, forcing me to take time off from work and come to the post office to wait on a line for 30 and 40 minutes. I'm not exaggerating when I say I've lost count of the complaints I have about the service we receive from this station. - Multiple lost packages - Our carrier refuses to come up our elevator to bring parcels to our door (asks us to come down or won't deliver, even if we can't leave our sleeping baby) - The local phone number listed for the office only answers with a beeping noise - Because the local number doesn't work, I sent them a fax asking them to call me back, no response - Filed complaints with the main USPS office and was told I would receive a call back. I've never received a single call - Asked for redelivery of parcels through the website when slips have been left, never received a redelivery and have to go to the office to pick up parcels - Tracked multiple packages that are showing up as delivered but they never actually were. - Tracked multiple packages that show a delivery attempt was made, although no attempt was actually made. I know postal workers have to deal with a lot of customer service issues, but the woman with the googley eye (as one other customers named her) Clerk #2 is THE ABSOLUTE RUDEST, most miserable person I have yet to meet behind the counter at a post office. Screaming out, "if you ain't ready don't come up to the window!" God forbid someone has a question because they don't know what to pack the item in. Then has the nerve to tell me, after I bid her a good day, that I have an attitude problem. "Projection" is an amazing thing! Now I understand why SOME post offices need to be shut down. I have been in this wretched zip code for about 6 years now, and there has only been a few months out of those 6 years where I haven't had any problems relating to mail delivery. Really, as in most cases, this is due to a couple of bad seeds. Mostly the carriers that make the actual daily runs. But unfortunately there are also the horrible people that manage this branch. Their inability to manage properly is, I guess the real blame for this. I'm sure this office gets dozens if not hundred of complaints a year. But nothing seems to change. After all these years you would think that something would happen. But like I said, out of all these years. The best (most normal) experience I have had with these guys was last year. For maybe about 8 months, there was a carrier that did his job, nothing more, nothing less. And it was grand. He was a fine fellow, with a giant ironic afro and grizzly adams bread. Much like the dude that's in The Roots. He was awesome. He delivered at a reasonable hour. Walked up and down the street doing what he was supposed to do. No cell phone attached to his face, no slacking. And as far as I can remember, whether snow sleet or rain, we got our mail. All normal stuff. GREAT! But since (and before) him, its all been crap. Take for instance our current carrier. She just plain SUCKS! Very rarely does she deliver anything requiring a signature. Usually we just get a pink slip in the box with random boxes checked off. And if the weather isn't agreeable, fuggedaboutit! Whenever there is rain or even the slightest chance of snow, no mail. Often we wont get mail on saturdays or mondays either (I guess she likes long weekends). When I see her in the afternoons (no morning deliveries for princess), she more often then not, has a cell phone pinched between her shoulder and face. Sometimes, I can actually hear here coming down the street! Yapping away about some nonsense, at the top of her lungs! Then there are the times when I will be tracking a package. I wait and wait, watching on my shipping widget. An update comes up, saying that the package was delivered. But guess what?! NO PACKAGE. This has happened a few times in the past year. Packages marked as shipped, but no package to be had. When this happens, I will file a claim, but nothing comes of that. I complain to the 800 number person, and they apologize, then they have someone from my branch call me, and without fail, they call at the most inopportune time, leave a message with no name just a number to call back. And SURPRISE SURPRISE, the number they give me is a fax number! WOOH! WINNING! What kills me the most about these cases is that after weeks of deal with this crap, you know what happens? I will get the package. Sitting there innocently, like nothing ever happened, and priority mail IS supposed to take 6 weeks of hell to finally get to you, and Delivery Confirmation is actually only a clairvoyant prediction of deliveries that might come in some distant future. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH THIS PLACE?!??! Where do they find these people??? Heres another doozy, this didn't happen to me, I over heard this while in line waiting to get a package (that of course was ultimately lost). A woman was at the window asking for the mail she had request be placed on hold while she was away for how ever long (I think she said 2 months). The person behind the window asked for her name, when to the back, and after a minute came back and said "they didn't have anything for her." The woman, asked "what do you mean, why not?". the person behind the desk said "we don't have your name on file." The woman was like, "But I called AND came in to confirm before I left!" The person "helping" her called a manager over. The manager said "we don't have anything for you, we have no records of you requesting this service." They went back and forth for a minute, and then she asked, "well what happened to my mail then?" The manager responds, "It was all probably thrown out." and walked away. The woman started crying (probably out of frustration) and walked out of the office in shock. wow. *note: the woman this happened to was very polite and calm through the whole thing, she keep her composure until the end when she broke down. I can go on and on. I have years of crap that I can tell you about, but Im sure you get the point. These guys suck, and USPS sucks for not following through with complaints, and also for hiring these jerks in the first place. But I guess this is what it's become. I've complained about the ineptitudes of the postal carriers in my neighborhood and this post office on the USPS website, with no improvements. I'm writing here on Yelp to confirm that the service is still as bad as it has been in the past. Here are some of my beefs, in concise bullet form: -my new postal carrier, for months, has been delivering mail to the wrong apartment in my mailbox, although the mailboxes are clearly marked. -a delivery slip was left in my mailbox, but when I went to pick up my package at the office, they said it was delivered. Ultimately, that package was given up for lost, returned to the original sender, and then a month later appeared back at the post office. -the supervisors have tried to intercede in various situations, have taken my info and promised to call me the next day, and never have. -whether there are 2 people in line ahead of you or 10, you can expect to wait an interminable amount of time. -mail is routinely not delivered. For example, my new driver's license and new atm card never showed up. -a second package was claimed to have been delivered by the driver, but no one in my building was home at that time. He will often make no attempted delivery but I end up with a slip saying my package was attempted to be delivered. read more

Laziest group of clowns this side of Congress. 1/3 packages Amazon sends me via USPS fails to get delivered, with a different (dishonest) excuse offered each time. They'll claim amazon gave them an undeliverable address, that the mail receptacle (for a package?) was blocked, that they attemped to deliver (a lie since I was home when they claimed they tried to deliver), that they left a notice (another lie) that the box was damaged and the (inorganic) contents were perishable so they were sending them back. I refuse to use them for anything, and won't let anyone send packages to me via USPS if it's an option. read more

Worst post office I've ever been to. Lines are insane. No organization. Unbelievably bad.

The slips they leave never have the tracking number written on them. When you call they say there is nothing they can do without the tracking number. They might give you one slip, if you're lucky. Usually if they do ring the bell by the time you run over they have gone. I have had a number of items shipped back to the sender because there is no way for me to get my package before I know I have one and they send it back. Useless. read more

I've literally been waiting in line for 45 minutes while there are only two employees for an entire room full of people. This is ridiculous.

Yeah so, I get a call from a friend today who, apparently, had mailed me a large package on March 11. They received the package back today, April 12, saying it was "unclaimed", yet I never received one delivery slip. This is CLASSIC ADELPHI STATION activity. My mail comes at 5:45/6 PM every day, they DO NOT EVER pick up their phone, they NEVER, EVER redeliver after the first attempt whether you've placed the filled out slip in the mailbox or not (they never even retrieve it, it will just stay in there forever), I've never stood on line for less than an hour (I avoid going there like the plague; I may singlehandedly keep the UPS store in business), and in that hour's time standing on line have never seen less than 3 or 4 people upset because their packages have been "LOST". Inevitably, customers come to near blows with the degenerate losers who "work" there every, single time I'm there. But just for the consumer's information, I've acquired some valuable information in the past 22 years in which I've been dealing with this welfare office: Don't bother calling them because they don't pick up. Call the USPS Postal Inspector immediately at (800) 275-8777. You will get the automated system and will seemingly be in a loop, just keep pressing "0" at every single prompt, regardless if the recording says "customer service not available bla bla bla" or something similar. If you press "0" about 8-10 times, you will eventually be put on hold with music and given an estimated number of minutes until they take your call. And they are actually (usually) very professional and helpful. read more

Just called for the fourth time and for the fourth time was hung up . The first time was after I waited 30 minutes on hold and the subsequent 3 times without my phone call being answered. I had one quick question that should take two seconds to see whether I need to come down and pick up a package or wait as I need the Items for work tomorrow. I can understand that the place is busy but to hang up on my after I waited so long and to hang up on me after I call back seems unprofessional and wrong. read more

I had a slip to pick up a package so I told my partner to pick it up while I was at work. I followed the directions on the slip, wrote down my girlfriend's name and signed where I was supposed to. My girlfriend went in and they saw the slip and asked her "Do you have her ID?". This was baffling since who has someone elses id not to mention that they should have just asked for her id instead. Oh and her tone was one of her and my roommate being idiots for not knowing this. Their reasoning for having to see my own id is that they didn't know if that was really my signature or not. While upset I said whatever I'll just schedule for it to be redelivered. No package came so today I am going to attempt to get to the post office and hope my package has not been sent back. I called the usps customer service line and was informed that they should have just asked for my girlfriend's id not mine saying the same thing I did why would someone else have another person's id. read more

The guy who's been on the route for the past year has been doing a good job. I think my bldg is less intimidating, because my hippie neighbors went nuts with the Crayola colors, hand drawn signs and potted geraniums. We're practically a doorman bldg with all the yoga studios. For those of us who work during their business hours that means that there is no way to obtain service or resolve issues. And, if you go there, brace yourself for unprofessional customer service. Nothing positive to say about them. I am sure they have a lot of work to do but this is the worst station/service in Brooklyn, maybe all of NYC. I now live in 11217 instead of 11238 thank god, so I am serviced by a slightly better post office. My old mail carrier never delivered packages EVER, nor did he/she leave a notice that I should go to post office and get it. They never rang the bell to even see if I was home in the first place. I was NEVER able to have anything delivered to my home. They also bent my mail and ride metro card at least 3 times and lost it a few times to the point that I had to stop ordering a monthly metro card by mail (from work). The Mail and Ride/ MTA people stopped believing that it was the postal worker who always bent/lost cards. read more

Since moving to the area 8 months ago I have had 6 packages sent to my address and somehow 4 have been lost, even though the tracking number says they have been delivered. The first few times I thought it was a fluke-- now I'm convinced the mail carriers from this station steal packages if it's convenient. The carrier never, ever leaves a pink slip-- just marks it as delivered "in or around" mailbox even though it's never there. My building is secure, neighbors are great and I have a note saying please don't leave packages in lobby-- they're definitely just not getting delivered. I've also had most of my paychecks go missing. basically have to have anything of value sent to a friend's house, which is absolutely abhorrent. KEEP REPORTING THIS POST OFFICE! My package was delivered to my door three weeks after it was delivered to my local post office and scheduled for delivery. Why did they hold on to it for THREE WEEKS?! No no way is this ever acceptable. I also never received an apology or explanation--only a voicemail several days after it was delivered, asking if I'd received it. This has to be the worst Post Office on the east coast! A parcel came to my apt and they left a notice, no article number just my name and where it was being held. Went to the post office 4 times in the morning ranging from 9:05-9:30 and it was not open, plus no hours of operation any where on the building. If you call the number you get a fax machine. The place is a zoo, the employees are extremely petty, angry and unhelpful. Waiting in line and witnessing the shameless contempt for each and every customer and all requests, I wasn't shocked when it was my turn and I too got barked at and forced to go to the end of the line. I can't believe how many times I heard the supervisor who was milling around say "There's nothing I can do, it's a Saturday" and "we've got to get out of here, we close in a half hour". Saturdays they close @ 1PM but I wouldn't try to walk in after 12PM if you plan to get the simplest of tasks accomplished. I try really hard to be forgiving, to give people the benefit of the doubt, to empathize with others. Never in my life have I felt so compelled to write an entirely negative review. This post office has zero redeeming qualities. Not even a stamp machine. I could write a book about how awful this post office is. Maybe a collection of short stories detailing my individual unfortunate experiences there? Character sketches of all the snarky, snide, and nasty employees? Perhaps a historical text on the decline of the NYC postal system (provided it was ever any better than it is now)? In summary: It is the worst ever of all time forever times infinity. Period. So bad you should honestly consider moving to a different office's purview. A complete fail in every single aspect of what a post office should do. Ignore packages, lose packages, tear envelopes (weirdly, this happened a lot), randomly mix up the mail of different tenants in the same building, ignore all requests to do their jobs adequately. This post office was understaffed and underfunded even before the recent addition of several highrise buildings full of more residents to the neighborhood. Now, with the limits on how many people can safely be in the building for covid safety, you can wait for up to an hour in a line stretching down the block just to get in. That shows how underserved this neighborhood, but it is not my main concern. On January 19th, I waited outside for 45 minutes and by the time I made it in I guess the guy who was supposed to be reinforcing safety rules at the door had to go on break? I counted how many people were in inside. 35 people. The safety limit is supposed to be 10 people. There were patrons and even some workers without masks and there was no social distancing. It is not possible to social distance with that many people in the space. I spent another half hour inside waitin in line. I should have left, because 5 says later I got sick. I'm still sick. I genuinely believe that the staff at this post office are doing the best they possibly can given that this neighborhood is drastically underserved. It's been depressing for years and at this point it's dangerous and unacceptable. read more

I've lived in this zip code for 15 years and mail delivery is a disaster. Every day, I get mail for other addresses. Typically, it's about a third of my mail. I always have a pile by the front door to drop in the mail box for redelivery. I wonder how much stuff of mine other people get. Checks that I don't get, that I have to ask people to cancel and reissue, nirthday gifts that never show up. I just ordered some software, sent prioriity mail with delivery confirmation. They've now confirmed delivery, yes, but I have no idea who it was delivered to. They're impossible to reach by phone and if you go in person, they're useless, no one can help with anything. they just tell me to call the USPS 800 number . read more

Things go missing all the time--neither returned to sender nor ever delivered. Nothing. This post office is good at nothing. Delivering packages: Unlikely. On most occasions, you will get a slip saying "missed delivery." Try following the instructions on the form (sign, leave in box, presto, redelivery in two days) and nothing will happen, either the form disappears and no one at the post office will know what happened to it, or it will be left in your box day after day after day after day. You have to go there, stand in line with your form and hope they find it. If you don't have your form, forget it. And, you'd better be unemployed or on the night shift because the office closes well before the rest of us get out of work. Forwarding mail: We got three letters on one day. Then nothing for nearly a week. Then we complained to the main USPS number. So we got another couple of items for a couple of days. Then nothing. As we still live near our old address we are able to stop by and pick up some of the mail that they fail to forward, but really, what a mess. Delivering mail: Living in an apartment house, I am amazed at how many letters are left on top of the boxes by residents because the letter carrier couldn't get them in the right box the first time. And, if residents don't pick them up for some reason, they are left day after day after day-- the letter carrier never fixes any errors. I've complained to the USPS number. Nothing. I've complained to Senator Schumer. Nothing. Nobody cares. What a disaster, and nobody in government willing or able to take responsibility. And these guys want to run our health care? read more
