I'm home all day long as I stay at home with my two year old daughter, yet every package is an 'attempted delivery.' In the four months I have lived here, we haven't gotten a SINGLE package delivered correctly and out of the 10+ packages we've had delivered (scratch that - had to hunt down and go pick up) two have been lost and never received and I've received ZERO attempted delivery slips. Every time it takes a package just a bit too long to get here, I have to call and ask about it and every time they are rude, inattentive, fail to transfer my call to the correct place or even pick up the phone at all. It took us six weeks to receive mail here after we had put in a change of address - the reason I was given: 'our name wasn't on the mailbox.' Yet, miraculously, I received thirty eight million pieces of mail for the myriad of people who lived here before me and whose names were also NOT on the mailbox. This place is a CF. I recently sent a small envelope "next day" from Florida up to Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and paid $20 for this service. By the way, they put your small envelope into a huge envelope - this annoyed me a bit (because a small envelope can more possibly & simply be jammed into an apt style mailbox, but not their huge one). Since I know that the recipient lives in an apt building in Bay Ridge, I checked off the signature required box. The guy at the PO in Florida assured me that they'll get it by 12 noon the next day (or your money back). I texted my friend the next day and she said (this was a lil after 12pm) she had not yet gotten the envelope/package. She went downstairs to the lobby or vestibule area where the doorbells are and sure enough, there was a PO post-it note saying "We tried" to deliver the package. She told me her doorbell never rang that morning. I asked her if she might have been under the shower or listening to Metallica very loud, etc - she said no. Hence I conclude that they do not try very hard to deliver these kind of packages. I suspect that they just put up a post-it and go onto their next "delivery". She wound up picking up the envelope later that day, so all in all, it was not a tragedy. But they should have rung the bell (of course). read more

This is one of the worst post offices I have ever encountered. I have been waiting for a package which I rescheduled delivery for. Not only did the package not go out for delivery date but the following date the tracking showed there was no answere and a note was left. Nothing was left anywhere. Daily Mail service is great but any package that is too large for our regular mailman to deliver seldom gets delivered. Notices of attempted delivery are seldom if ever left. The only notice I've received in the past several years is a final notice. When you know your getting a package and can track it, the tracking usually says an attempted delivery was made and a notice was left. That has yet to happen. Recently a package of fruit sat at this post office for 10 days before I received a final notice and called the post office. Obviously the fruit was rotten and smelled really bad when I finally received it and had to pay to send it back. On Monday, I tracked another package that stated an attempted delivery was made and a notice was left. Not so. I was home at the time the delivery was supposedly made. I called the post office and was told they would deliver it today. I called the post office this morining and was assured that it was on the truck to be delivered. It is now after 8:00 PM and the package has not been delivered. The workers who handle packages at the Ft. Hamilton post office continually lie and post false tracking information. The Ft. Hamilton Post Office is the worst when it comes to delivering packages. read more

This post office is fine - like any other. I am really just curious about the mural above the windows. I noticed it for the first time today - it is covered up by a bunch of signs. It looks like a WPA-era mural, but when I asked the agent behind the window, he said the post office didn't open until the 80s. Does anyone have any info on it? Not the first time - I am working from home all day to get the package and I see the tracking page says they "attempted to deliver" while I was home! Really? There is not even a notice left anywhere. I wish that the Administrators of the US Postal Service would read and act upon the comments on YELP; however, obviously they do neither, and customers' reporting problems such as lack of delivery of mail goes unheeded. The return receipts of certified letters are returned several months late, sometimes unsigned, or are not returned at all.The supervisors are defensive, rude, and uncooperative; I was told to send letters another way, not certified. (Why, then, does USPS sell certified services?) Calls to the local PO usually meet with infinite "busy" signals, such that the phones must be off the hook. I called just now (after three pm) because I have been expecting first-class letters that have not arrived, and was told to call in the mornings (when the phones are usually off the hook); am told "it's too late to call about service." (Isn't the PO open till 5?) We have had little (or perhaps no) delivery in this building last Saturday, and none so far again, today. I am told that our letter-carrier is on vacation and mail will be delivered "around 5pm"; and if I do not receive the letters, there is nothing the person to whom I spoke can do- but I should call in the early morning to report lack of mail the previous day. (This would mean that I ought to have called on Sunday, when the PO is closed.) This Postal Station is a disgrace. read more

The worst post office of all time! I always hate seeing that my package was transferred to the local post office because I know I will not get the package unless I go and pick it up in person. Many times they say they attempted to deliver but nobody ever shows up to your house. I rarely have a pink slip at my door.. most likely because they lied about attempting to deliver. Once they lost my package only to find it an hour later at the post office and I needed to walk all the way back to the post office to pick it up. Took me 45 minutes to pickup my package. The guy who took my yellow slip moved like a turtle, took about 10 minutes per package and was one of the most miserable people I have ever seen. He shouldn't be allowed to have any human contact at work. read more

I've left here on more than one occasion wiped out from waiting in line and without a resolution to a mail issue. I don't recall an employee helping people in the line to take care of ad hoc transactions. I have waited less time in line at the post office on 32nd street and 8th ave in manhattan on April 15th! I think the post office is awesome for being the only government agency that completely covers it's own expenses using it's own revenue, but maybe that's not the best model for government agencies providing customer service to the public. After 10 minutes, the line ahead of me is still looming for a post office on the quiet outskirts of Brooklyn. Just overheard by someone who made it to the window, "I waited in line for so long, I'll pay anything!" More than 10 people are in line for pickup alone, and the post office closes in 6 minutes. Just overheard by a very pleasant customer to the clerk, "...you want to go home... I want to go home, too! I had to go feed the meter after being in line for 45 minutes!". Even after enduring 3 months of my mail being returned even though I've not moved in 4 years, I still give 2 stars because I'm grateful for all the mail that has been delivered well, the workers on the ground that deliver mail and results daily, and the occasional super awesome postal clerk that is not only nice, but efficient and proactive (I have not experienced that at this location yet, however). Update: it's been 25 minutes in line, still 3 people ahead of me, 8 people surviving behind me. 3 windows are open. read more

This is the worst post office I have ever dealt with in my entire life and I say this as someone who has lived in many different cities and states. This post office has bulletproof customer service windows and I am not in the least surprised. On one occasion they lost a certified letter of mine for a month. By the time I got my hands on the letter, the other party had canceled the contents of the letter. One day I made a cardboard sign saying THIS POST OFFICE LOST MY CERTIFIED LETTER FOR A MONTH and I began marching up and down the sidewalk in front of this post office carrying my sign. They responded by calling the cops. I got a faux apology after complaining to the Inspector General. More recently, someone sent me a Priority Mail Express overnight package; it's been missing nearly a week. Why on earth are these employees not disciplined and/or fired? I have to suppose a union is protecting them. They routinely lose mail and packages. This post office is the reason why people use UPS and Fed-Ex. read more

I have a small business and constantly ship out items weekly. The employees are always respectful and eager to help me out. I don't understand why the reviews on here are so bad. Most of the time when I walk in I see a ton of angry customers just yelling at the employees who have a tough enough job as it is. Big special thanks to Shauna for helping me out. One time I thought I I mixed up two shipping labels and put them on the wrong boxes. She helped me immediately without a wait and asked me to return so she could open up the drop box for me and make sure my labels were correct (they were I just needed the peace of mind.) Also I ship priority mail 99% of the time. If the free boxes aren't out there, Al is always allowing me to skip the line to just grab a free box. Just a few of the amazing workers at this location. Just a heads up guys. Ship your printing labels online. Saves you so much time and money! read more
