Long lines, poor service. Good luck if you have to deal with this office, and assume mail will take a day or three longer to reach its destination if it has to go through the Cambridge area Post Offices (assuming it is not lost along the way, which happens in Cambridge much more often than it should). This is a great, full service post office. It can get very busy during certain student-centric times, with lots of international mailings, passports, etc... so beware. But they have every post office service you can imagine, and they have very friendly, helpful, and knowledgable staff. I use the self-service kiosk quite a bit, which saves tons of time, although a line can form there too during those move-in/move-out seasons in the square. Parking isn't so easy, but I think most customers walk there from work and/or school. It's Cambridge, so bring your quarters. read more

Most appalling post office experience I have ever had. I went in to apply for passports for my children. The blond woman (Kathy) behind the desk was at first only surly and incompetent but then graduated to hostile and outright threatening. (Quote: "Don't get smart with me!" I'm not kidding. She then scolded my seven-year-old daughter for laughing. ) I was in the Harvard Square Post Office for two and a half hours. A full hour was spent standing in line, but the remaining ninety minutes were spent filling out paperwork that I should have been given in advance and trying to reason with this postal worker. I walked out having accomplished nothing. She had also kept the other families waiting for hours. I did not see her handle one single application with basic courtesy or competence. Two days later I went to my local post office for the same passports and was treated with courtesy, competence and friendliness. The difference was amazing. There are better post offices all over town. I had heard that this branch was awful, and now I know why. I will avoid the Harvard Square branch at all costs from now on. read more

I go to this Post Office, I live in Cambridge, it is always busy but despite that I have always found the staff friendly and very helpful. I post within the USA and to foreign addresses too, both letters and parcels. read more

Kathy was the most unfriendly, unkind postal agent. My envelope was a bit open and she sent me back to the line saying i was not ready. In the not so recent past the worker would have put a small piece of tape on the envelope. Instead I was told to purchase a roll of packaging tape. The was some priority tape that i used to secure the envelope. Upon greeting Kathy again, she told be the items would now have to be sent priority. She did not have eye contact with me. She spoke to the other agent about poor postal protocol. She was not wearing her name badge. I asked her her name and she said Kathy. Last name? No she does not give that out. I have used this post office for 15 years. They seemed to cut the kinder service providers, sadly. read more

Just terrible. I've been to post offices all over the country and in Canada, UK, and Mexico, and this is by far the worst. Ben Franklin would be rolling in his grave. This is the only post office in the immediate area which essentially gives them a monopoly to treat Harvard students and elderly alike poorly. Though I personally haven't received rudeness, I've witnessed it on so many occasions to other customers that I am indirectly offended. Things like telling them to leave and never come back, saying too bad, or you shoulda done this or that are just unacceptable for any government employee. I get that this is a city and people are a little more guarded than in a rural post office, but it is just insane. Add to that the absurdly long lines at any given time and you've got a loser of a post office. There are even days when mail won't even arrive to my apartment building across the street, and given its size, that is highly unlikely. This post office sucks and avoid at all costs. read more

This post office is horrid. The people are rude AND incompetent. It has been like this consistently since I have lived in Cambridge (over 10 years). Today really inspired me though, to write this review. I went in with a letter to mail to Japan, to ask how much postage to put on it (sounds straightforward, right?) because I had my own stamps. The woman who was there today at 5:30pm was like "90 cents." and then she goes "Oh wait, it's international... I dunno, at least $3." So I said "Can you please find out for sure?" and she's like, well it's international, so... I dunno and kind of shrugs... The machine is saying $3.12 (meaning that if I had put $3 like she originally said, it wouldn't have been enough). And I was like, "Ok, are you sure about that?" and she really didn't seem sure. I went over to the machine to try to verify this myself, and asked another employee if I could use the machine for international letters, since the woman at the counter wasn't sure, and he said he was "pretty sure it would be around $3" And I was like "I'm sorry but I need to know the actual amount... 'pretty sure' isn't really good enough" and he rudely told me to "Get back in line then." while walking away from me, so I'd either have to shout or chase him (he did not answer my question about using the machine). This place is truly horrible, literally every time I go there. Something is really wrong -- possibly with the management or whoever hires people for this location. The other branches in Cambridge (Central, Kendall, MIT) are always fine. read more

It's 4 PM at one of the busiest post offices in metropolitan Boston. There are 20 people in line and only 2 clerks. This is the busiest posting time of the day. Unacceptable! read more

I would like to thank the African American clerk at the Harvard square post office for her help. After one of the clerks sold me the wrong size box for shipping to South Africa she assisted me and helped me get new boxes and repack and seal them. I am very grateful to her for helping me through what could have been a very frustrating experience. read more

I LOVE this post office! The familiar faces and the patient service are reassuring. This building replaced a lovely old oak, brass and glass post office just when email replaced writing letters, so it was a bad decision by the USPS, I guess. It has the most convenient location for me and I have a lot of sympathy for the overworked clerks, who have been there for a lifetime. I can't understand the bitchfest in the reviews. I hadn't been to this Post Office in months. Which is why I forgot how horrible this place still is. It used to be much worse a few years ago. There are couple of newer employees who are actually helpful and reasonable. But if you get one of the "old guard", you are out of luck. Condescending, irritable, impatient, unfocused. Will manage to turn a quick and simple question into a long and complicated nightmare. It goes like this: You politely start asking the question. After the third word the clerk impatiently finishes the sentence for you trying to guess the question. You politely say no, that's not what I was asking and try to finish the question. But at that point the clerk is already irritated and simply does not listen to you. At the end he gives you a number to call. You say, no, that's not what I was asking. And explain again. At which point he finally listens and realizes that, yes, the question makes sense and he can help. All done with the most arrogant and offensive attitude. Someone please teach these guys how to behave like human beings? Or remind them that they are paid to help not to try to use customers as an outlet for their own frustration. There is a reason why people have been complained about this place for years. Take those employees who have a attitude, put them in the back, replace them with clerks who are properly trained to deal with customers or this place will never get any better. read more
