I had a frustrating experience at this location today and felt it was important to share. I went in to send out a letter via Priority Mail (overnight or second day), as I've done many times before. When I approached the counter, I was assisted by Miss Shirley. I explained I needed to send a letter, but before I could provide any further detail, she immediately told me I needed to purchase an envelope. I was confused because in my past experiences, when sending items via Priority Mail, the envelopes are typically provided by the post office. Still, I followed her instructions and paid $4.99 for an envelope. After getting back in line, I was helped by another agent who was much more helpful. She asked when I wanted the item delivered, and when I said overnight or second day, she explained that they actually do provide envelopes for Priority Mail meaning I didn't need to buy one at all. At that point, Miss Shirley overheard our conversation but didn't acknowledge the confusion or apologize for the unnecessary purchase. What bothered me most wasn't just the extra cost it was the lack of communication and the dismissive attitude. Instead of cutting me off, she could've simply asked how I intended to send the letter and saved us both time. I'm sharing this review not to be rude, but because I believe customer service should involve listening, patience, and clarity especially in a setting as busy as the post office. Self service machine needs to be moved out of its encroached and busy space. You got PO boxes, people dropping envelopes, a door that lets employees come out to stand right there in the way with a cart to collect the packages previously dropped at the box which is next to the self service machine where one is trying to get stamps at a very slooooooow pace. It's just ridiculous! More space is needed to circulate and wait. Someone ended enraged after my efforts to confirm if I was the one being addressed among three people going around there at the same time. read more

The line was extremely long, yet only two clerks were working at the counter, and the overall service speed was very slow. One major issue is that when a customer comes unprepared without packaging, instead of asking them to step aside to pack and return, the staff waits for them to finish packing and labeling right there. This significantly delays service for everyone else in line. The process needs to be more efficient -- this kind of operation makes the wait unnecessarily long and frustrating. read more

Several encounters with Shirley as she is rude and unprofessional. There is sometimes a line at the self check out and no one in line at the regular line so I decide to go in the regular line which is short and she always says you know you can use the self check out... I know I could but this line is shorter. (I get she doesn't wanna do her job since self check out can do the same thing but I'm doing what's more convenient for me) the rude and condescending tone is what off puts me the most Then when my wife accidentally shipped the wrong item and accidentally gave wrong information for which item she shipped to the employee that was helping her. I go back in and Shirley goes what can I do that your wife didn't already do.. and you know you're gonna have to pay $20. I said sure that's fine. I said well she gave the wrong information so I'm here to correct it. She then proceeds to have me move from the front counter and leaves in the back instead of wait for me to give the right information . Not a terrible experience, but also not the quickest I've been in and out of a post office. The wait in line for help in sending out a few small packages maybe took 10 minutes? They had two windows open for assisting regular processing with card vs. cash. I believe it was that if you were planning to pay with cash, you would be able to be processed at the 3rd window, probably no cash rap there. The inside was small, but neat and organized. The line did have more people than I was expecting. Nice mix of individuals. Castro Valley is a small town and I got that feeling here, but at least its not a complete ghost town. The parking lot was also full the first time I entered. Saw a spot as I was coming out of the lot, but would have had to circle back to get it and there were already 2 cars entering from the other side. Luckily, I found a spot on the street. If I couldn't find parking, my next check would have been to park at The Village and walk over. The man who helped me was very kind and processed 5 small parcels that I needed shipped to the Greater Los Angeles region. They costed more than I was anticipating though, but the deed needed to be done. I was always fond of the drive thru mail drop off boxes as a kid- it was always super fun and didn't take long at all where you're able to go about your day. Something I've heard through the grapevine is that it might be best to bring the items inside to be mailed as there could be evil people who have nothing better to do than to potentially steal mail from outside mailboxes. read more

You, for YEARS, provided 3 USPS Snorkel Mailboxes at your drive-thru lane. You removed them because, you said, to protect our security; presumably when they were overstuffed and envelopes could have been removed. The replacement boxes placed too far for anyone to reach from a vehicle occasioned LOTS of complaints. So you installed one with a snorkel - STILL too far away for most folks to reach. Here's an idea: restore all 3 snorkel boxes ( at an accessible distance) and empty them more often! Any driver trying to use the snorkel mailbox but can't reach, or forced to use one of the others has to put their vehicle into Park, release their seat belt, adjust their seat, open the door and get out of the vehicle. Then the entire process in reverse. This is customer service? Three (3) snorkel boxes. close enough for ANYONE to reach while still in their vehicle, emptied more often would solve this problem. read more

I sent a birthday card to a relative in Utah over three weeks ago and they never received it. A couple of years ago I sent a package to Concord. I had a barcode tracker and it ended up in Los Angeles. The Castro Valley office blames it on Oakland. I was just down there today and tried to talk with somebody where that wooden door is. And I could find no one or get any kind of response after knocking on the door. I think back in the day the pony express was a lot more reliable than our local post office. Unfortunately, the employees inside the post office-generallynot the carriers make endless mistakes such as: Holding mail at the wrong times (unable to read directions). Neglecting to hold mail when requested (unable to read directions). Delivering the previously instructed "hold mail," it got soaked and ended up all over the street. Losing mail and items sent from the PO, having items disappearing aka stolen and never recovered, clerks giving incorrect delivery dates. They occasionally leave phone messages, yet NEVER ANSWER THE PHONE in the PO so that customers might return calls. I have had to drive over to speak with someone, which means waiting on long poorly attended lines. I never ever thought I'd be in favor of privatizing the PO, yet I now am. read more

After a group effort the Castro valley post office team Ruby, Julia & Esmeralda Gonsalves completely turned my day around & moved mountains for lil ol me ;) haha! They are wonder women! I have gone to this location the last few times due to it's convience and the staff is able to help since I do not know how to send mail and want to make sure it is done correctly . To say this place is compared to a DMV is on point. I don't know what it is with the staff that has a big ego and wants to be rude, but that was my experience. Today was a busy day and I waited in line to send off some packages and to do a return normally my last experience, which was my first time shipping off a package. I brought the packed up package to the counter and they provided me with a slip to write the to and from and to ship off my item , immediately the worker was rude as fuck saying I can't ship this because there's no label and I was like OK it's usually provided for me or can you give me the slip or something and he was like no you need to write on that yourself before you get into the counter so there isn't there isn't a form or a slip that I need to fill out to put on this package he then roll his eyes and finally hand me the same slip that I've been seeing him hand everybody else before me to put on their package at this point I was just I was fuming but kept my cool. I said OK well, I'm also here to do a return and my return instructions were to just provide a QR code and I do not need to pack the item or need a label or need a box so I proceeded to tell him that I needed to do the return and here's the QR code before I got the chance to ask because I had the original shipping bag that it came in. I wanted to know if I could still use it because I was not able to peel off the entire shipping label from the first time sometimes places will not accept return packages with any piece of the old label on it and If it was not able to be reused we can just go ahead and I can just give him the item by itself as instructed but could even ask him that he immediately just yelled out. We can't ship this back with it just sitting like that like it needs to be closed up and I just tell him OK that's what I'm trying to ask if I can still use this original shipping bag if it has part of the label on it because I know you guys sometimes will not he's like yeah yeah but go stand over there at that point I was so mad and it was so busy to the point where I felt so embarrassed in front of everybody. I'm like I'm asking you a simple question because I don't know you ship out packages mail letters whatever on a daily basis 5 days a week I ship out a package This is my second time a year. I don't know the process and that is why I'm asking you but what is the point of you being there if you can't answer simple questions cause I hate to break it to you. The second time I come up to him of course I got the same guy at all the workers I miss labeled the ZIP Code and he told me to correct it. I'm like OK. I just asked you do you want me to cross out the last number or cross out the whole thing because in my head if I just scribble that one numberit might look weird, but he tells me to do that and then i give it to him like he told me to do and he gets mad because it looks messy, which that's what I thought but I asked you??? All this. I kept my cool and just proceeded to finish what he needed me to finish and left because there's no point in me standing there arguing back with him telling him that I was right or if he was right or whatever. The lack of professionalism and lack of customer service is mind-boggling coming from somebody who works in customer service. I know exactly how it is to deal with rowdy customers demanding everything but that's why I explained to you sir. I don't know the process this is why I am asking you can I do this because I don't wanna get up there and you start screaming at me telling me I can't use this package. They do not answer their calls. I am someone who is high risk and cannot go there. I spoke with USPS.com agent and they directed me to call my local USPS due to a lost package and nope these people aren't answering. What sucks is the package is important. I hope it ends up on my doorstep. Also doing a change of address is bogus, they do not send your packages and mail to the forwarded address like they're supposed to. So what am I to do? Ok...so I have been in this post office a thousand times and had just ok experiences until yesterday! I had a box that needed extra tape and the post office was super busy but had to wait in line for almost 30 minutes! Two workers were working their butts off yet an entitled Ruby was stating "I can only do a few things as my system is down!" This September I dropped off a large batch of mail, taking it into the post office during operating hours and dropping it off in the post office. Every single piece of mail was lost or stolen, not a single piece of mail arrived at it's destination. There is limited parking and the traffic pattern is a problem, cars wait for spot to open up. Because EMPLOYEES ARE TAKING THE PRIME SPOTS, ALL DAY!! They are the Tesla and other cars parked on the south wall near front, backed in with visor shades up...Also 4 spots are "reserved for manager". That is a large percentage out of circulation. They should at least take the farthest spots, not the nearest, or park in the back. read more

Since there are usually long lines at the post office, the customer service here is curt and brief. There were only 2 postal workers at the counter. The customers are patient for their turn. There is parking in front. Rather than waiting in line, you can drop off your letter or package in the postal box inside the area where there is a machine to buy stamps or when your car exits the parking lot. read more

A review for JOSOPHINE, Castro Valley USPS. I know most people write negative reviews when they are mad, but few write positive reviews when things are going go so I doing this. I have been tracking a part for 3 weeks only available from the Netherlands. USPS tracking told me it was being returned due to incorrect address. I called USPS Customer Service and they said it was returned to sender. I went to Castro Valley PO just before opening at 9am. I explained situation to Josophine, and told her if I can't find package, I would have to wait another month for delivery. She said supervisor was not available, but she went and search the truck, the line and finally the Supervisor's desk and FOUND the package before it was returned to the Netherlands. Yes there can be lines at the post office, but please consider that sometimes they are going the extra mile for a customer, and someday you may need this service, so take a deep breath, relax, and think good carma. I rely on tracking information to know where my packages are and if they are going to be on time. I do understand that there can sometimes be a delay in their delivery. When I noticed a recent package had been scanned as delivered to my "front door" I grew concerned that it may have been stolen. Then I noticed the tracking info indicated that it had been delivered to a completely different zip code than my own. I took this info at face value and contacted Amazon to send a replacement item since USPS info indicated it had been delivered to an unknown location The next day the item showed up in my mailbox. Had the item still said "out for delivery" instead of "delivered" I would have known it had been delayed. I do know the units that scan packages at the time of delivery also capture GPS locations, and I wouldn't be surprised if my package had been scanned at the USPS carriers home to make it seem that they had completed their deliveries. read more

Slow as molasses. Typical government workers. The mailman left our apartment mailboxes open after delivering the mail. You need the master key in order to close it back up so only the post office could close it. We called the post office and after about 4 tries finally got ahold of someone. The woman who answered said she would call the carrier to come back and close it immediately. Our cameras showed the mail was delivered at 11am and when I got home and checked the mail it was 1pm. We called about 1:15pm. A couple hours later the mailbox was still open and unlocked so we called again but couldn't get ahold of anyone. We then called the postmaster and they said they'd get it taken care of ASAP. Well...a couple hours later guess what??...the mailbox was still open and unlocked! We didn't want it left that way overnight because we've had thieves try to break into our mailbox multiple times. Being the post office closes at 5pm we called a little before and talked with the postmaster again because the CV branch wasn't picking up. They were a little surprised that it hadn't been taken care of yet....yeah you're telling us! Finally at 6:48pm the mailman came by to close it. I know accidents happen but come on! Our mailbox and 5 others were completely accessible for 7 hours! That's more than enough time for thieves to stop by and steal the mail. And yes, we've caught scumbags breaking into our mailbox in the middle of the day. Come on post office, step your game up...don't become the DMV! Haha. read more

Over the many years in Castro Valley we have had very good experiences but recently have had a very few deliver issues that have been resolved. Recently, however, the post office has made a MAJOR error. The have, recently, replaced the aging drive up boxes with standard walk up boxes and to deposit your letter, you have to exit you car and walk two steps to be able to deposit the mail. The last four times I drove up to the "drop boxes", I had to get out of the car to help a handicapped person deposit his letters. All of them were extremely frustrated with the new boxes, and to be honest, I can't believe that the post office would do something this bad. I can understand that they wanted to update the boxes for security reasons, but these new boxes make absolutely no sense. So the very poor rating. read more

There is nothing they love more than to waste whatever possible free time you might have by standing in line and then needlessly nitpicking the package you are mailing. This USPS store is a small location minutes from my house where I usually go pick up my packages. There are times where USPS workers drop the mail off at your house even on the weekends but if you ask for a signature request and you are not home they usually leave a note stating what the next process is in order to get your mail. They make 2 attempts to drop off at your house and the 3rd time they give you the location to pick up your package. If you need any help or assistance the supervisor Leslie usually is the one to pick up the phone and answer any questions or concerns. There is a huge parking lot and tons of parking so parking is never an issue at this location. I usually find myself coming to pick my packages up on the weekends since I am rarely home throughout the week and everyone seems to be very nice and helpful. No complaints so far with this USPS. I definitely recommend getting a PO Box here as you are able to access the office to get your mail 24 hours a day. read more

Someone in their dock is stealing packages. I've had my third package go missing after postal records confirmed at least two packages were delivered. Fortunately, retailers were kind enough to send me replacements. The packages started missing around July. This was never happening before then. Also, there is a bald, male that works here and he has really good customer service and he is quick! That man deserves a raise. read more

I have my po box at this post office and the best part about it is that I can access my mail 24 hours a day. I usually buy my stamps from the automated machine - which is convenient but the stamps from the machine are poor quality. What do I mean? The stamps are printed on a thin paper that easily rips. It's not the usual stamp quality that you get. The booklet cover quality is also poor, so it's very likely that the stamps will rip. Maybe you're okay with it, but it bothers me. All stamps should be issued with the same quality.. just saying. There's a drive-thru mail slot which is convenient for drivers who are just there to drop-off mail. The good part about CV is that there's two lanes - one to drop-off mail and one to just leave. Therefore, you don't have to wait for the person to drop-off their mail.. you can just go. There's always a line. I've seen lines that lined up pass the door. It's worst during the holidays. The parking lot is pretty small - there's some street parking but rarely. The post office is located in a residential area, so there's not much street parking. read more
