Terrible customer service. I realize that during the holidays, longer lines are to be expected, but the clerks on duty manage to exceed even one's lowest expectations. In particular, one employee - white woman with long white hair, likely in her fifties or early sixties, glasses, tall - seems to struggle with appropriate customer interactions every time I see her. Every time I go there, I see her getting into disagreements with customers. While it can be argued that customers can be rude and impatient (especially during the holidays), her defensive response to any perceived insult (such as if someone is simply tired and not chatty, having been in line for 40+ min) is often over the top. On one occasion, she'd clearly been frustrated by the impatience of a customer in front of me (an elderly lady who had waited 40+ minutes and was visibly tired and a little passive aggressive, but not outright confrontational), and while this employee was ringing me up for my package, she wouldn't stop trying to talk to me about how rude she'd found that other customer. It made me feel very awkward and uncomfortable. I get that the interaction was not pleasant for her, and that it's human to get frustrated after that, but come on - there's a way to behave at work and that's not it. It held up the line more and it made me feel afraid to say anything, lest I offend her and cause another unprofessional eruption. read more

First time using this post office since I work close by. Absolutely disgusted by both of the women working there 4/29/19 at 4:45 pm. I was dropping off a package and simply needed a receipt. (During this time I was in the middle of a phone call) I paused the call to hand the older woman with the glasses the package as I said "hello" . She then asked me if I needed a receipt, I said "yes please" I continued my call. She then paused as soon as she heard me speaking another language and instead of just printing the receipt she said I cannot be on the phone while I was conducting business at the usps. I told her "excuse me, but I went on with my call AFTER I conducted my transaction and that's my business not yours. However, is there a sign or policy you can show me that states this?" - (she had nothing to say, she just continued to say I couldn't be on the phone) I then asked for her name various times and she refused to give it to me. Absolutely rude and uncalled for. Hopefully the manager of this location can train his staff to be a bit more courteous as the way she spoke to me was completely unnecessary. read more

I had to mail a package to Brazil. I completed the customs form and gave both to the clerk. She seemed totally clueless about how to do the transaction. She kept asking me for the information that was on the form. Once she completed the shipping label. I asked to see it just to make sure she did it correctly. When the machine listed several price options for delivery she had no idea what the differences were between them. She also had no idea when the package would be delivered. She also had to ask her co worker for assistance printing the receipt. I gave the tracking number to my friend in Brazil almost a month ago and there is no record of the package in the Brazilian postal system. read more

This US post office is the worst customer service I have ever experienced I was told to buy shipping label online and they print it for a quicker process but they can't print it apparently . Was shipping a small package and they can't even help me with getting a box they said I had to go to cvs to buy it because they don't provide boxes even though they are in the back and I would have paid for them. To those that have written positive reviews of this place: God bless you for having a positive experience, because my experiences there has been HORRIBLE. Today, I went to pick up two packages that were simply too big to be delivered to my apartment door. Upon handing the clerk my Delivery Slips, the clerk told me that there was no way she was going to look through 200+ packages for mine. She then told me to call the Charlestown Carrier Unit and tell them that they need more help! Upon calling the Charlestown Carrier Unit and complaining about the clerk's rude refusal to get my packages, the Supervisor told me that they have had a history of complaints against this location, and that is the primary reason why they are closing this branch down. He then told me that he would call me back in an hour to tell me when I can come back to get my packages. In the meantime, I am considering calling the Postmaster General because the service at this location is TERRIBLE. I have had more than one incident with this post office, so if the supervisor does not call me in an hour like he says he will, I will be filing a complaint. In summary, I would strongly suggest to other customers to not frequent this location. The clerk, who had this starkly bleached hair that looked as if it would not move even on a windy day, refused to do a job that she is required to do...then ordered me to tell her boss why she refused! Going into this Post Office location always puts me on edge. At least one person gets aggressively poor service while I am there. Then employees will continue to loudly bad mouth the customer after they have left. I have yet to be yelled at, but it really just seems like only a matter of time. All of the employees are unhappy and angry, it is the culture. Anytime of day, any season they are exuding anger and poised to lash out. I understand that answering the same question many times a day can be exhausting, but that is not the fault of the folks asking the question; it is just the reality of a customer service based position. Words cannot express the frustration I felt at this location. I was mailing a prepaid package which in hindsight should've just been dropped off, but I was stuck in line for one hour along with a group of terribly pissed off townsfolk. First off, the two women working their must have genes from a snail, they were slow and slow and oh my goodness slow! The black women, forgive me , don't know her name, was nice, though slow. She seems new and unexperienced and I can understand the frustration. The other one, dirty blonde/light red hair, with this weird threaded strand, short and curly -- is the spawn of satan himself. This women was unprofessional, rude and completely void of any concern for humankind. The way she interacted with the customers before me made me sick. I prayed I wouldn't get her but alas I got sucked right in because the other woman was stuck on a passport that took 45 mins. This woman gave me a hard time about tape. TAPE! I stood in line for an hour and she said the prepaid label wasn't taped. Mind you I've been told not to tape it because the barcode can't be scanned properly! Everyone in line nearly ripped her head off, I proceeded to use their cheap roll tape to tape my mailer. I don't care. Malden never gave me a hard time once about tape and she said this is a new policy. That is completely bullcrap. I can't begin to express my anger, never has a complete stranger annoyed me this much. You know why the USPS should be privatized? This is why! You hire people who are unqualified and underpaid and you expect decent service. This is still a small-town post office in a town that has grown up over the last ten years. Still, the people who work there take the time to ask your name, make an impersonal transaction personal, smile, and genuinely seem to care about you. If they can't figure out how to help you, you probably can't be helped by a US Post Office worker. Good people. read more

It's easy to give any post office a bad rating because of long lines. But that's just the nature of most post offices, isn't it? This one, however, seems to be different most of the time I've been. At most two people ahead of me at any time of day, and with two postal workers behind the counter, it's a fast experience. They're also super helpful and not at all bored, disgruntled, or otherwise hating the post office life. I think we can all appreciate that in our post men and women. read more

Let me just say that i have never written a review in my life. If 0 stars were an option that is what I would give this post office. I came into this place Tuesday trying to get my passport renewed for a trip I am going on in February. My name on my original passport was spelled incorrectly, so my situation was unique and I had several questions for the woman helping me. After waiting for an unreasonably long time, the woman told me that I could not submit a normal renewal form for my passport because my name was spelled incorrectly in my first passport and that I needed to submit the DS-11 form as if I was applying for my passport for the first time. FALSE INFORMATION. Because I didn't have my birth certificate, I would need to come back. I then asked her which days I could come back, and she told me Wednesday-Saturday and I told her I would be back Saturday at which point she did not advise me to make an appointment so I assumed it was walk ins welcome as all other days of the week were. The woman the proceeds to lecture me about how she typically checks over "government issued documents to check for spelling errors when she receives these types of things". Newsflash lady, I ALSO check over government documents.... but I was 16 when my mother and father applied for my first passport and apparently they don't check so please save your lectures for people that ask for your valuable life hacks. Didn't realize it was spelled incorrectly until my last international trip 6 months ago and at that time I knew my passport would be renewed in the coming months. Fast forward to today (Saturday). I double check online to make sure that the post office is open and can do passports. I see "walk ins welcome" online and so i assume i am good. Anyways, I am the second person in line at the post office when they open, behind a family of 4 also having their passports renewed. The woman behind the desks asks what I am there for an instructs me to wait behind the family and alerts the man helping with their passports that that is what i am there for as well and he says nothing. 30+ minutes go by and I am still waiting. Finally the man confirms with me if I am there for a passport. I say yes. 10 more minutes go by. The line at the post office is getting bigger and bigger because they are moving VERY slowly. The passport guy then sees the line and asks me again what I am there for. I say passport. He then asks me if I have made an appointment. I tell him that I was in on Tuesday and that I had not made an appointment but had been told that i could come back on Saturday and had seen online that walk ins were welcome. He then tells me that the line is too long and that I needed to make an appointment. I calmly explain to him that I had all of my paperwork filled out and that I simply needed him to answer a few questions and help me send my stuff. He then gets very angry and again tells me I need an appointment. I then explain to him that I was the second person in line and had been there for 40 minutes waiting in the passport line. He again tells me that he refuses to take me because I had not made an appointment but at this point he starts to get very loud. Newsflash Charlestown- dealing with government documents is stressful enough. No need to make it that much harder for everyone. It is very clear that the man behind the counter was just too lazy to help me with what I needed. But the woman I originally saw on Tuesday should brush up on her passport policy's because she was completely clueless. My passport could have been renewed that day. And another thing- update your website if walk ins aren't welcome on saturdays. No need to create more stress for EVERYONE, especially during the holidays. I went over to South Boston where they were more than willing to help me and disgusted by the Charlestown behavior. Worst. Customer. Service. Ever. read more

update 2016/08/15 Here is the worst Post Office I've ever been. After I made a review below, I still needed to go there for international mail. A guy at the counter measured mails and told international forever stamp (?) is good enough. I bought those and place them on envelopes at the counter on the waiting line. I go to another counter guy to ask to post them. Then this guy (Kee) remeasure envelopes and charges additional cost (almost double). I appreciate him to remeasure otherwise I will receive returned envelope. Charging this amount is reasonable, however making this type of mistake is unacceptable. They are not professional and don't know what they are doing. Kee (2nd guy at the counter) was still good though. Original review: This review is strictly for this location, not for the service of USPS. Sent a package to non-US country. The guy told me to write from/to on the package as pointed by his hand. I did that and it turned out they said they can't ship because "from" should be upper left. I wrote exactly where he pointed. If the place of from/to matters, they should have told me before. if I ask, of cause they said they did. Conclusion is that the guy working here (name starting J) does not know how to work effectively or customer services. The other personnel, Kee, was nice though. One star for Kee, and another star for USPS's cheap shipping fee compare to FedEx or UPS. If you say I'm expecting too much from USPS, yes that may be true. read more

Another small town post office that's awesome. Had to go here two days in a row, both days I had the same gratifying feeling that I was being served just great. I loved the fact that as small as this station is, they still have two windows open. The lines were very short, I was in and out in just moments even though i was sending a registered mail. i ship very often through usps and i never have an issue unless i am shipping in charlestown because it is close to my work. Every time i come here, it is an unpleasant experience and i feel as though it may actually be the worst customer experience ive ever received. The cashier/worker Bobbie is the most miserable person, always has an attitude!! A lot of other customers feel this way as well, i am shocked that she is still employed here. I try to avoid this location when possible! :( i always try to give the benefit of the doubt, however she has delivered terrible customer service one too many times read more

I went to the post office in charlestown there. the package I sent it is 2lb and 9oz. I weight in my home with the scale. But when I try to drop in the post office. it said 2lb and 10oz. The asian new guy told me the package may sent it back if just alittle one oz over. I mean just one oz. sometime the scale is alittle different than the one they havce. why? This is the closest post office to my workplace so I decided to use it. Big mistake! When I went in, there were 3 people in front of me. They were being treated very well. They were prompt in the service, they were chatting with them and obviously making them feel welcome. Then it was my turn (I happen to be the only non white customer there). The minute it was my turn, the person behind the counter(I wish I would have made note of his name) lost the smile on his face. I greeted him to which there was no response so I went on to tell him that I want to return the box I had received and showed him the shipping label. The box wasn't taped (but it wasn't like things were falling out.). Without even looking he said you need a clear tape around and I am not going to do that for you.Either you tape it yourself or buy it from the store. So I asked him how much does the tape cost. He told me to go to the back of the store and find out myself. He did not even try or act like he was trying to help me. Such an unpleasant experience.
