Mind you I spend thousands on express shipping and have ever had a problem I usually make labels for everything and drop them off the next day or if I'm at the downtown location in the evening She told me I would need a new label, which makes absolutely no sense. Once the package gets scanned and accepted that's when the "1 day express" shipping begins, not when I make the label USPS you really need to train your staff to know updated rules and not just make stuff up on the spot. I'm on my fourth post office because the next one I went to was CLOSED (the weather is not that bad). I'm very over the staff, having never had to pay for postage, telling me made up rules and making what is supposed to be convenient more of a hassle.

Now there are different carriers and the service varies widely depending on who is delivering that day. I've had packages left halfway up my steps in full view of passerby. If my neighbor hadn't witnessed the delivery and taken my package into his home, it would have been stolen. I've also had packages scanned as delivered (I know this because I use tracking via Amazon), but the package wasn't actually delivered until days later. I've had packages left by my door when I was home and the carrier didn't bother to ring my doorbell. When I am home and receive mail, I notice that most of the carriers are on personal cell phone calls while they're delivering mail. In addition to being inappropriate, this is also a dangerous practice because mail carriers are sometimes robbed on their routes. I think that a carrier would want to be alert and aware of their surroundings while delivering mail in my neighborhood. Today I answered my door and a very nice carrier handed me a package that according to USPS and Amazon's tracking was delivered on 3/12. Today is 4/2! I have the suspicion that another carrier scanned the package as delivered in order to meet the Amazon Prime 2nd day delivery guarantee and intended to either deliver the package the next day or perhaps not at all. The service at the branch office has improved with lower wait times and more courteous service, but the issues with delivery are unacceptable!

I asked why they didn't take it. He said the woman that waited on him was rude and told him that the zip code was not correct. He said that she was behind security plastic, and he could barely understand what she was saying. How insensitive this employee was. My husband is a senior and has a little trouble seeing and was treated with no respect. She didn't even bother to look-up the address to find out what the zip code would have been. As it turns out, the address & zip code were correct. She was lazy and unconcerned about serving her community. I'm not surprised that Bobby Rush and Senator Durbin called for changes to be made at this facility in 2021. Avoid this place. I'm not going back there!

That said, Shannon is the absolute exception and the true cornerstone of this location. She seems to be the only employee actually keeping this office running. We went to the Chinatown location for my daughter's passport appointment, and thanks entirely to Shannon, the experience was efficient, professional, and genuinely pleasant. She handled everything quickly and kindly, and we were in and out without any issues. USPS needs more employees like her. They have told me that the packages are in the office but they can't get to them because of all of the mail piling up blocking access. So it's a long, unfortunate 'waiting game'. I requested information on PO Boxes and was told that all mail, no matter where it goes must first be sorted by USPS and that because of Covid and excessive absenteeism, there is NO ONE available to do this. My husband was renewing his passport and I guided him since I was just there Monday. I told him exactly what to do so he wouldn't get an attitude from their employees, just preparing him for the mail Nazis. He filled out his form, had his pictures, and filled out the envelope. He took it to the front to make sure everything was in order and the lady just told him he had to put it in that she wasn't suppose to touch it or look at it, with an attitude! How about making an attempt and provide good customer service!!?? When we are clueless and have no idea, all we need is reassurance that we are doing it correctly. She couldn't even provide him with that! It's so upsetting and not to mention what I had to go through, since I was lost. It's like you figure it out on your own! Especially a lady named Nicole, if they don't like their job they shouldn't work there. People should be friendly and provide good customer service! If you're not a people person you should not be working at the post office!!
