This is one of the better service locations. There is limited parking, be ready to walk and to wait.

The wait is rarely unreasonable and the employees themselves are a wonderful, friendly, HELPFUL bunch of human beings.

It caught my skirt, and despite multiple attempts to stop it, the escalator continued running. I returned the next day to report the incident and was told the person responsible was not there. After being given the runaround, no one ever followed up or compensated me for the damage to my dress, nail, watch, and other belongings. The elevators are also raggedy and often seem poorly maintained, which does not inspire confidence in the overall safety and upkeep of the facility. It's disappointing to experience such poor customer service, especially since the post office operates with very little competition. I do have another post office that I prefer, but this location is open later, which is sometimes more convenient. The facility often looks deserted, although there has been security in the parking lot since it reopened. Another frustration is that the location sometimes closes earlier than posted hours or seems to close whenever it wants. Overall, every visit feels like an inconvenience.

I had a PO Box at this Post Office... "had" being the operative term…read more Packages at my building were getting stolen at an alarming rate. Thus, I decided to get a PO Box so my merchandise could be stored in a secure, government building. Plus, I really loved that they have incredible hours, being open until midnight Monday through Friday, and late into the evening on Saturday and Sunday. Alas, this is the only good thing; everything else has been one issue after another. There was a major issue of packages seemingly not being delivered. I would see the tracking notification stating it was, but no 'package waiting' slip in the mailbox. I would bring this to the staff... some of whom checked in the back, while others stated that if there was no slip, it was still moving through the building. After this repeated enough times that some of the staff remembered me, and after I said "the only thing there is the cardboard on the back," he realized that the PO Box was effectively marked as vacant. Uh oh. It was removed, and I thought it would be uphill from there. Nope, there was a further issue. But first, a quick note about Street Addressing. PO Boxes at this Post Office come with Street Addressing, a service where your PO Box comes with a real street address. In trying to find out what this address was, most of the staffers had no clue what I was talking about. I eventually learned what it should actually be from a poster in the hall. Once I knew this from an official USPS source, and the "vacant" sign was removed, I ordered an item to that street address. The UPS tracking showed it as being delivered to the Post Office. However, the package was nowhere to be found. It ended up being a whole lot of finger-pointing, with the package seemingly being swallowed by The Void. After this, I decided it was time to close the PO Box. It was unable to fulfill the function I needed it to, and this is in large part due to negligence (i.e., not taking proper care) by this USPS. Final nail in the coffin: the number of letters that get lost, and the delays if they don't (about a month), are beyond unacceptable.

After a few loops through the area, I eventually found a parking spot along N Kenilworth Ave right outside of the entrance. During my loops, I was astonished to see the beauty of downtown Oak Park which I have never seen before. I will have to visit the area one of these days to go food hopping, or maybe even pick out a run route that would take me through it on foot. Now as for parking, it is 1-hour parking, 9 AM - 5 PM Monday - Saturday. Many of the visitors I see try to secure those parking spots along N Kenilworth Ave because you will have to pay if you choose to park along Lake St, which is pay by the plate. An adorable, classy looking building is this post office not only on the outside, but inside as well. I must say that this post office was my life saver due to its closing time on the weekend which will surely result in future visits for me. During my visit, there was absolutely no line of customers inside which resulted in an in-and-out visit (no pun intended), tehehe. As someone who visits post office locations regularly whether it be for Poshmark or eBay shipments, the clerk presented a friendly vibe during our brief encounter at the counter. I was on my way in minutes after she weighed and scanned my package, as well as presented me with mailing stamps for my postcards. I am terrible at doing the surveys on the receipts pertaining to my visits at post offices, but rest assured I always share a review based on my experiences. I had a great experience and would gladly utilize Oak Park Post Office again for any shipments I may have. ~ Embrace the journey. ~ Thomas G

I had a simple transaction which was to get a refund on an USPS money order which I had purchased. I had the original money order in hand. The retail counter clerks (a young male & older female) were not very customer service oriented. The young male clerk was extremely unprofessional and should not be in a customer facing position. As I saw the male clerk interact with some customers before me, I was hoping I would not draw him as it seemed he had an attitude. As luck would have it, I did. I explained to him what was needed. He responded he had no cash, his co-worker may but you have to go back in line & wait to ask her. I complied and waited my turn for the female clerk. When my turn arrived, the female clerk seemed to be "like a deer in headlights" regarding the request. She eventually responded that she had no cash for a refund since it was Monday morning and to come back at 3pm as she might have cash by that time. I responded to her that this was ridiculous that the USPS was so ill-prepared to conduct business on a normal weekday as I walked off. At this point, the young male clerk, who was now helping someone else, decided to reinsert himself into the issue as he made some "smart-aleck"/ snide responses to my comment. To avoid sinking down to his level of ignorance, I calmed myself to continue to walk away. As I was walking out, another customer that was also at the retail counter, who observed the clerks behavior, commented to me that it was uncalled for. Needless to say, I was able to complete the refund of the money order at a USPS in Wheaton, IL without any trouble and a smile. Anyone reading this review will be able to "read between the lines" regarding the difference of experience b/t the USPS locations.
