I did a Silly Thing: I had Amazon send me a package to my AirBNB here in Ruidoso. I never thought…read morefor a moment that the package might be sent by USPS instead of UPS. When Amazon told me the package had been delivered, I realized my mistake. So, I texted the owner of the AirBNB, but he told me that he didn't have a mailbox here at all, because of it being a short-term rental. What to do? I went down to the Post Office on Mechem Drive, and was assisted by a gentleman named Frank. Frank took my information and enlisted the aid of another gentleman whose name I didn't get, but whom Frank called "Boss." Together, the two of them worked to locate my package and have it brought back to the Post Office where I picked it up in due course. What a great example of going "above and beyond" in Customer Service. It meant a lot to me to receive such professional and courteous and effective service. Thank you, Frank and Boss!! (By the way, you'll notice that this is posted under a different name, but it's still me, the fat old guy with the bum leg! Thanks again!)

I stumbled into this Post Office when I visited the small town of Lincoln, NM. Like many others who…read morecome to Lincoln, I wanted to see the history of the town that made Billy The Kid Famous. One of the places I went to visit was the Tunstall Store. To my surprise, the Post Office is connected to the store, and is a fully functional working post office. I went it to buy stamps and saw the smallest post office I have ever been in. There were many P.O. Boxes that made the small space look like it was stuck in time. I purchased stamps and asked about the town. The employee was very helpful, and gave me all the information I needed. He also told me that many things had closed because of covid, but places were slowly opening up. I ended up shipping something home from that post office and sent a few letters to friends, just to have the Lincoln postmark. There are only standard services, but the small interior is enough to walk in and see it. They do not make buildings that last like this anymore, even if only two people fit in the post office at one time. I was told that the mail gets picked up at 6pm almost daily.

I am currently on my seventh deployment, so having my mail forwarded is nothing new. It is…read morehowever, my first time deploying from Holloman AFB. I requested to have my my mail forwarded, 2 weeks prior to my departure in December for 6 months. My request lasted a little over a month before USPS started leaving packages at my door and leaving mail in my box. Needless to say my packages were stolen (it was weeks before I noticed, because I didn't realize that postal reps required constant follow-up). I contacted USPS and they apologized. An apology only goes so far though, I had to ask where my mail was again in April and June. The postmaster Jerry, told me, my mother and my first sergeant something different each time. "New carrier," or "We (USPS) can't forward packages," even though they previously forwarded two of the subscription boxes they said they couldn't forward, "someone ripped the label out of your mailbox," even though I am single and nobody has access to my mailbox, to completely disregarding me because they are "busy and undermanned." In the 6 months I have been deployed, my mother has received 11 pieces of mail. You think they would have forwarding mail down considering they are located on a military installation where people are constantly deployed/TDY, but that is not the case. It is by far the worst service I have received from any post office in my nine PCSs and seven deployments. I recommend having friends/family check your mail while you're out because they do not understand the concept of forwarding.

I had actually gotten a little lost and passed by here looking for a library that was not to be found. The park has open space with grass for sports, a tennis court, a pretty rad looking skate park (do the kids still say "rad"?), benches, picnic tables and a large structure that is the Tularosa Community Center.
