Long line, one super slow clerk, and me with an armful of packages, just horrible, horrible, and heavy.

This post office always seems to have an issue every time I visit. Last time the clerk was complaining about the other employees not helping her in front of them. Every time I turn a prepaid package in it does not get scanned until the next day if I do not wait in line to watch them physically scan the package. I would go to another post office if you want better service, unfortunately this office is just not good. I go out of my way to visit another one when I need to mail packages. read more

For years when my neighborhood had a regular postman, he was great. He actually put the mail completely into my mailbox every day. What a concept! But since he retired a couple of years ago, we've had nothing but a string of incompetent and inept postal delivery people that can't seem to, or maybe just won't for whatever reason, put the mail completely into the mailbox. I've had more mail half hanging out of my mailbox, bent, folded over and soaking wet from being rained on than I can even begin to discuss. I've actually spoken to a few of the dozens of postal workers we've had about this, but they don't care and they keep doing it. I'M COMPLETELY DISMAYED AND DISGUSTED BY THIS. (I mean c'mon already. My 5 year old can do a better job at putting a piece of paper into a box.) And to top it off, there is absolutely no where online to file a complaint about this. There is no longer a manager or postmaster at this office. Just rude workers who don't give a crap. If this is how the USPS works these days, at least at the Ferndale, MI office, then I'd rather them just not come to my house at all. Better yet, just shut this office down like it should have been years ago and deliver our mail out of the Oak Park office. Sell the building to a business that will actually benefit our community. I've never had a problem at this post office but I don't frequent the post office anyway. Whenever I've been there I've been treated well. Oh, and that comment about needing security because you "fear for your life..." That's uncalled for and stupid. I LIVE in Ferndale and it's got a great police force and I've never had a problem. I run an online business and find myself in this post office shipping packages out a few times a week. It makes me sad to see all these horrible reviews. I can't speak for anyone else besides myself, but I actually love going into this post office. The staff that is there when I am (afternoons Mondays and Fridays) are always super friendly. I usually ship out 5-10 packages at a time so Im there enough time to have an actual conversation with the employees and they are all very nice. Ive also noticed a lot of the time the customers who come in aren't always the most pleasant people to deal with. Personally, Ive seen a lot of people give the employees a hard time and a lot of attitude. Ive never really noticed more than two people on staff at a time so when it gets busy the line doesn't move super quick. I honestly think people need to be a little more patient, you're at a post office after all. Like I said, I can't speak for anyone else besides myself, but I will happily continue visiting this location. I think you get back what you give. Being friendly to others goes a very long way, especially when you expect people to be friendly back to you. read more

After failing to receive 3 bills from different providers as well as the Ferndale absentee ballot, I contacted the agents and was told that the bills had been returned with no reason notated or in one case that I was unknown at the home I have lived in since 1992. A city clerk phoned me this a.m. to inform me that my voting ballot had been returned. Later today, I spoke with my letter carrier en route and she said that my mail had been sent back to the post office, with a notice that I had moved. This explanation seems unlikely. Trying to phone the post office was a bust since no one would pick up, nor could I leave a message. The postal carrier tried to assure me that she would correct the mistake, but it is truly bothersome that there is no reasonable explanation for this event. read more

I needed to drop off something really quickly I was advised to change my method of delivery so while I went to change it and apply the address the clerk went to the back to ready the shipments. When I gave her my envelope she advised me my mail would be sent the next day since she already for everything ready. It literally would have taken her 1 minute to wait and send my envelope along with the rest of the days mail. Additionally she had me waiting 15 minutes while she readied the mail by the time she came back out 4 people were waiting. Avoid Reta if possible. read more

I was one of the people who took the time to petition the postmaster to keep the Ferndale office open. This mainly because of the convenient location rather than the service. The people who work at this office simply DON'T CARE, and it shows! read more

I stopped into the Ferndale Post Office at 4:45 pm, after confirming on the website that they were open until 6pm. I was the 3rd customer in line and there was one employee working. Having only one employee wouldn't have been an issue if she were halfway pleasant to the customers. Instead, she was rude, condescending and even turned people away, stating, "you have plenty of time to make it to the Detroit location, I can't take anymore customers!" When someone pointed out that the website states that this location is open until 6pm, she said, "well, you guys aren't my priority." Additionally, when I asked if my 3 year old son (who had been very well behaved during our encounter) could use the restroom, I was told that there were no public restrooms. I made an additional plea, stating that he had just been potty trained and can't "hold it" for very long, I was told rudely, "ma'am, I said no public restrooms!" The only reason this review has even 1 star is because 0 starts isn't an option. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere but here. This is my first Yelp review. Unfortunately it's negative, but hopefully it will save someone else from such a horrible experience. I will be sharing this in other social media as well. read more

Why this place is kept open is beyond me. The PO boxes are never filled by 10 a.m. like they are supposed to be, the lines are long because there is usually only one person up front while music and others play in the back. The clerks are usually rude or indifferent towards everybody. It is not a nice place to go. Slow, rude service seems to be their motto. read more

No mail service to apartment building again yesterday. No service 3 days within a month. Never before have we had such awful service. Our regular mail person was Mike and he was the greatest. Now he is on the other side of the city and our mail service sucks. I will not go to the Ferndale post office for anything. Did once and had really bad service. Now I go to Hazel Park or Royal Oak. It's worth the extra travel time for great service. read more

This place don't even deserve 1 Star. No one ever answers the phone, you have a better chance of being the 8th caller on a radio station for Cash! Service is lousy and from what I've been told, unless you have P.O. Box there You have to go over to the Livernois Station in Detroit to pick up any packages such as Amazon.., etc...even though you Live on Ferndale!! read more

Worst post office on the planet. They will sometimes not unlock the door until 10:00 am, despite stating on the sign that they open the lobby at 8:00. Slow, indifferent service. Why all the attitude? O stars if I could. I live in Ferndale, but after today I probably won't be going back to Ferndale's post office, unless they get new management. It's been about 40 times of really bad service and extremely rude clerks. This is why the US Postal service is suffering. The attitude of the manager goes down to the employees. I thought about going to Royal Oak PO because I have so many issues with Ferndale. But, decided to try Ferndal PO again. Today I went to drop off a package. I had printed the label a few days ago through Poshmark because I sold something, went today to drop off my package. Poshmark sends you a label right when you sell something, you print it off and they want you to ship it within 2 days. The clerk told me because I printed the label out more than 24 hours ago, she was going to refuse it. Whaaaat?? So I drove there, because our mail person doesn't take out-going mail, waited in line for 15 minutes, then you refuse to take my pre-paid package?? It doesn't say I shipped it when I printed it, so it makes no sense!! !! I went in line so I could get a receipt, and so the package could be date stamped at drop-off. This is insane. Same lady that refused a package because someone put clear tape across the mailing address. ??!! It's like she just wants to get a power-trip off of this, or she's just lazy. But this is every single time I go, it's either pain-stakingly slow and the clerks are so rude. I go to Royal Oak, and they have totally different attitudes and a different boss. It's a shame. This has to be the worst post office experience of all time. I went there this Saturday to mail a care package to my son at Michigan State who lives in East Wilson Hall. Apparently, I transposed one of the numbers in the ZIP Code and the customer service representative refused to look up the correct ZIP Code for me. I walked a mile to get to the post office and did not have my phone to look up the correct ZIP Code. The customer service representative told me I had to get out of line and come back with the proper ZIP Code for a dorm at Michigan State that has probably been there for over 50 years and she told me she could not find the ZIP Code. Fortunately, the woman behind me in line went to Michigan State and lived in the same dorm and knew it off the top of her head. But it didn't end there; the customer service representative continued to be extremely rude, refusing to answer any questions, make eye contact, or talk to me or acknowledge me at all in anyway. I will be lodging a formal complaint with the US post office in charge of such matters. That is completely unacceptable. I am LIVID! This place refused service to me twice this week in the middle of the afternoon (1:00-2:00p.m.) The government or postal inspectors should investigate this location! The first time I went in, the lady behind the counter (Reta) said she wasn't serving any more customers because she had something to do in the back. The second day I went in, I waited in line for 10 minures, and then she announced that she wouldn't finish the line because she had to dispatch a truck or something. How can they just randomly close a U.S. government facility in the middle of the afternoon? This Reta lady was loud, rude and argumentative when I explained that I was already in line before she made her announcement. I can't believe that a federally operated service could just arbitrarily refuse to serve customers! Thanks for making me lug packages in and out of the freezing weather, it would have taken you a minute to service me... I had them addressed and ready to go! read more
