This place is quite antiquated, and not in a cool retro way. Inside is bleak and kind of run down looking. Almost like it's under construction, but I don't think it is... It's spacious, but the work tables are small and it always seems like less than half of the service windows are being used. The only thing good about this post office branch is the awesome architecture. It pretty much stops there. After moving over a month ago, I have yet to reliably receive any mail addressed to me. I can count one 1 hand how many pieces of mail I received, and they were all forwarded. I came in person 4 times to seek answers and I was dismissed each time with the "it should come" or "it takes time". It does not take 6 weeks for mail to arrive. Speaking to the manager has gotten me nowhere. To top it off, this appears to be a significantly understaffed post. Staff members will be called to a window around the corner from the main windows and you will wait upwards of 15-20 minutes before you get an unsatisfactory response. Never in my life have I witnessed this poor of a USPS service in my life. Understandably funding is reduced and things are hard but to dismiss the concerns of a customers is beyond. read more

Make sure you know if your package is actually for UPS before lining up, I accidentally wasted 20 minutes waiting in line. They have stamps on sale in a self service kiosk which is very convenient. I went away for nine days and had my mail put on hold. When I returned from vacation the post office was never able to find the mail that they held for me. Nine days worth of my mail was lost! That included bills and payment checks. No explanation was given. They have also lost many of my packages. Try to pick up a package at Window 2 and you will surely get frustrated. The window is supposed to be open all day. But because of a shortage of staff, Window 2 is usually closed. That means you have to wait on line in the front to pick up your package. What kind of post office operates this way? When it comes to picking up packages they are the worst! A supervisor needs to go there and fix the situation with Window 2. Post office near The Exchange Place area, includes windows for various services, picking up missed packages, passport services, and mailboxes. Even with a pick up slip, it took them two trips before they found one of the letters I was supposed to be picking up. Also the parking outside is metered, and often busy so I'm not sure how people manage to pick up packages unless they waste a bunch of time trying to park. I ended up double-parking with a passenger inside to watch the car, but it's better if you just end up walking here. read more

I can thoroughly recommend that you never, ever waste your time and dignity to patronize this post office. I am a startup magazine publisher and until I am able to mail my magazines at the periodical rate I have to send my subscribers their copy by media rate. I have been doing so at this post office among others in the area for a year - until last Saturday. The normal media rate for mailing a copy is $3.49. The teller at the window said she could only mail it first-class, which is double the rate, which means it costs me double my usual price. When I explained this to the very rude teller at Window #8, a large black woman wearing eyeglasses, she insisted that I was wrong and that my mailings would be returned - both untrue. She and her supervisor, whose name may be Debbie Allen, then shooed me away like I was not even there and completely ignored me afterward. I then called customer service and they corroborated the fact that I am to be charged the $3.49 media rate, not first-rate, and the teller at Window #10, hearing the conversation, proceeded to take my mail and charge the media rate, probably thinking that I was reporting her. I have the receipt she gave me. Today, Monday, I returned to mail more magazines, and that same ugly, awful black woman at Window #8 was there and I got the same treatment from her. No media rate for you, go away. She also called me a liar, loudly and publicly, that I was mailing calendars or something, not magazines, which frosted me to no end. How dare she! I called customer service again, only this time they couldn't help me. I refused to leave until I could speak with the teller at Window #10, the same one who gave me the media rate on Saturday, only to be told first that she was on break, then that she was not working at all, nor would they tell me when she would be working. I asked to speak with the postmaster for the branch. No dice. Not even a name - for anyone. Next I see 2 police officers that they called approach me to evict me from the building. (They were also quite unhelpful and uncaring.) Might I add that I am also disabled, a double leg amputee confined to a wheelchair, so they are also pushing around a handicapped man. Nice people. I have currently filed a complaint with the district office and I am awaiting their response. Although I mailed my magazines at the media rate at a nearby post office with no problem, I am pursuing this complaint. I am thoroughly disgusted with them and I want satisfaction. read more

I would not recommend coming here to take your passport photo. The photo I took at the post office was rejected by the passport office. I went back to let them know and get refunded and they accused me of not liking the photo and thought it was an acceptable photo. Many post offices are "old school" with lots of manual processes but this one takes the cake. It just exudes a vibe of "do what you want, I'll still be here". Marble steps, big echoing hallway where the boxes are located. Walk-up windows, just like the old days. And yet, there's an automated postage machine. Wow, that's like... 21st century. But don't get your hopes up. When I tried to use the machine, all it could issue were books of 18 stamps. "I'm sorry. I can't do this right now" next to all the other features. Lame. read more

Due to the pandemic work hours on Saturday begins at 8:30am its 8:54 am and no one has opened their windows to service customers. There are 35 people on the line waiting. A customer went to the window where you pick up your packages and asked an employee if they are going to open or if someone is going to come out and explain or apologize because it's 10am and no one is at the windows to service customers. The skinny, African american woman with crazy big hair( it could have been a wig, it was like a blonde or strawberry blond hair or some type of blond)began screaming her lungs out at the customer and shouting: (this was maybe between 9:45 to 10:00am) " I already told you, (she approaches the customer like 2 feet away with hand gestures a feet away from his face)and you need to shut up and go to your house and stay there. I am not going to repeat myself so get out and she just opened the door and went back inside . How are people like this working with customers. This lady was so improper well more like ghetto,ratchet and a hood rat. I would think that the employees that work at the windows do not come to work. The employees at the back of the office should be trained properly so they can be able to cover for the employees that were absent. I rarely give bad reviews for customer service, but this location of the USPS takes the cake. The normal counters where one would go to mail packages or drop off mail are fine, but beware of counters 2 & 5. I've had to come here several times as they've lost my packages, and they were spectacularly unhelpful and were late (even though the location opens at 7AM, these counters open at 8AM, and nobody actually gets there until 8:30. So if you have to be at work by 9, good luck). I've had the employees actually scream at me, I've had employees scream at each other about whose turn it was to actually (god forbid) do their job, and the whole experience is just miserable. The lovely gentleman here helped me out tremendously when I was in a time crunch. I had forgotten a document that I needed when applying for my passport, and he told me to come in the next morning when the office opens and there may be a chance I'd get in without an appointment. I got there at 8am on a Saturday morning and waited 30 min to see him once again! The lady behind the counter said it would be okay so I went to the kiosk and was finished by 9am. I could not have been more thankful as he was so patient with me and understanding of my current situation. I've literally never been treated so badly in my life. Woman yelled at me, mocked me, and slammed the window shut in my face. All because I wanted to pick up a package. It was really shocking. The previous encounters with staff there were great. I was told they accept general deliveries twice by other staff and even had some of the staff looking for the package for me earlier in the day. On the USPS website it says they accept general deliveries. The package was sent by another USPS post office and we confirmed again that it was possible. My AirBNB host told me they don't accept deliveries at their address for guests, so I had something really important shipped to general delivery to this post office. The rude woman said they don't allow general deliveries for people who are staying at places that don't accept deliveries. She also implied I was lying. How can you prove you live there?? She asked. I said I had a reservation I could show her. If I was homeless, she could give me the package. So, the package was literally sitting there and she wouldn't give it to me. She went to look for a form after I pleaded with her to let me fill out a form to get the package, then she apparently had a change of heart and wouldn't let me fill it out. I was also not at all in any way being rude. I asked her why she was being so mean to me, because I just didn't understand. She just shrugged. The lady who is more senior is so impatient has a temper and even if your packages have arrived, because the system is so slow and messy in this post office, you're only gonna get it 2 days later IF you have time to get it at that time. So needless to say I have wasted so many days coming here and my emails have said things have arrived since 2 days ago, it's just slow... Slowest post office that I know! And the lady is so rude and cranky too and might say that there are no packages before even checking them, then suddenly appears to me with the packages. This post office is as you would expect - just make sure you get there early if you're in any kind of rush. Staff are efficient and nice enough. What I do want to share however is that if you are going to mail letters / cards in JC, DO NOT drop them off in the mailboxes outside this post office location. On three occasions, letters to the NY / NJ region that I have mailed first class mail from these mailboxes took over two weeks to reach their destination. I give this USPS location zero stars; one star would be too generous. I've tried mailing packages two times within 7 days. At both times the USPS was open (this specific location is purportedly open at 730am), but the teller windows weren't open for business. Today there was a sign posted on the teller windows with the following: "Due to emergency window will be open at 830am." Last time the sign read, "Due to power outage, blah blah blah." I do not think I would be so unfortunate as to come into USPS office ONLY when there are "emergencies" (allegedly) and power outages (allegedly). PS. I've been to a lot of bad post offices in my day, but this one might take the cake as the worst. Expect incredibly slow service. And expect to be treated like crap by the employees, especially the guy on the side who you can pick up packages from. You can hear this guy and the others in some back room yukking it up while the line continually forms longer and longer, with people waiting to pick up their package so they can get out of this godforsaken place. This post office has also determined that it will not deliver to certain addresses in the area without what they consider to be the "right address." Even though the package was addressed correctly. One time I had a package that was supposed to come to my work office, and the tracking information said that it was "undeliverable as addressed, return to sender." I immediately go to the post office, minutes away, to go pick it up. This jerk at the window says it's already too late, the package is on its way back, it's already on a truck, it's already returned to the sender, and a bunch of other BS. Literally less than 5 minutes after it was scanned as "undeliverable" and I go to pick it up, this guy says the package is already gone, it's returned to the sender. I have no doubt in my mind that the package was right there next to this guy in some pile. Total and utter incompetence. Avoid if at all possible. read more

Ups and downs at this place. Positive: the week before Christmas I arrived with cash, but forgot my debit card. The gifts I was mailing ended up being 1" too long for the flatrate Priority Box. So I had to buy a big box and tape. And then I was short a bit of cash. A WONDERFUL teller, Yolanda, loaned me a tenner to cover things so that my gifts would actually get there before Christmas. (I paid her back the next day). Totally made my Christmas. Negatives: Always long lines. Always about 1 degree warmer than Hell. Always have about 3 (of 12) windows open. Even during the mad holiday rush. Negatives that don't relate necessarily to the post office, but the carriers: our carrier doesn't attempt delivery of packages, but leaves the "we missed you" notes when we're home and s/he just doesn't knock. I went to pick up a package that was supposed to be held there. The women at the counter were incredibly rude and unhelpful. Despite me showing them proof of the hold delivery request and confirmation emails from USPS, they completely ignored me and told me that the package had already gone out and there was nothing they could do. No apology for messing up the delivery or solutions for helping me fix the problem. I live on a busy street downtown with heavy foot traffic and was nervous my package would be stolen, which is why I requested it be held in the first place. Not only were they rude, but they were yelling at me in the window for no reason. I didn't argue with them for messing up my delivery, simply asked if there was anything they could do. No accountability. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. USPS is terrible anyway, but if you need to go, at least visit the other office in Jersey City. read more

Bureaucratic government agency with ugly service provided here. Came here to pick up my Hold Mails. Waited 20mins in front of a closed window and someone finally showed up. Was told that IDs from other states were not acceptable. Hence, the address on your NJ ID needs to match the address on the mails you are picking up. Or, you need to bring your passport along with a mail showing your current address to prove that you physically live in NJ. I guess this is the consequence of using this free "Mail Hold" service. The clerks juts made up their own rules here, DMV probably can provide better service here. read more
