USPS James A Farley Post Office Main Hall
    Mike R.

The majestic main hall of the James A Farley customer post office that has been Manhattan's main post office, formerly with access 24 hours a day with Automated Postal and window service 7 days a week, has had a real decline in services. As someone who has regularly used this post office for years given its easy availability, including with a P.O. Box there, it amazes me what has developed, especially since the building now also includes Penn Station's Moynihan Hall. Yes, they do have window service every day, but 98% of the time they're slow as molasses long lines because less than optimal staffing levels. Hey, USPS, this is the city that never sleeps, yet P.O. Boxes and self-serve Automatic Centers are now closed off to the public at night!!! Why? (Note - This is despite the faster than inflation, year-after-year increase in this location's P.O. Box rental rates.) Why is the only ADA access, as far as I could find it, on the almost the. complete opposite side of the building towards 9th Avenue inside Moynihan Hall?

U.S. Post Office is not the official name! It's the James A. Farley Post Office that's historic! I always loved to walk through and admire the architecture and history. It's close to a lot of my favorite hangouts and buildings. I rarely used the tellers. It's typically very busy in this neighborhood. I'm fortunate to have my daughter walk this way to work. She stops to mail important items for me. I'm recommending!

This is the main post office in N.Y,C it lies in the middle of the garment district in midtown Manhattan I believe its open everyday out of the week ( unlike other post offices in New York city that are closed cross out the five borough on Sundays ) and right across the street from Madison Square Garden ( had my school graduation there ) any how M.S.G is home to New York Knicks (N.B.A) and New York Rangers (N.H.L), this Post office right on top of Penn station ( Pennsylvania station) which serves the MTA Subway lines :1,2,3,A,,C.E -Trains, L.I.R.R (Long Island Rail Road ), N.J.Transit ( New Jersey Trainsit Train), Amtrak Trains , Flixibus & Megabus in the area .Any how this post office has main beautiful architect pillar front building on eighth avenue , inside it has long hall lobby dating back to its train station days . if you ever n.y.c area take a look in this beautiful art architect -interior building . P.S. with my busy schedule when i'm nearby i drop off birthday cards, or etc. Anniversary cards to my relatives out in the Midwest or Down south , Or even in Canada where i have relatives because there open late , and makes birthday card arrives bit faster , or ship packages here as well ! Very Convivent by the Mta Transportation: Subway: 1,2,3-Train 34 street Train station . or A,C,E-Train.34 street Train station. or B,D,F,M,N,Q,R-Train . 34 street , Train station . Bus: M34A,M34D, etc. bus

JAMES A. FARLEY POST OFFICE: An iconic Building located across the street from MSG established in 1914. Used to use the POST OFFICE for trading THRASH tapes via mail. The Building underwent a metamorphosis in 2021 and is more well known as a Transportion Hub for the LIRR and AMTRAK. A Food Hall located in the Complex houses many Vendors serving a variety of Cuisines. WORTH VISITING.

3.5 I think I've only been here once-- it wasn't exactly how I wanted to spend the first football Sunday of 2022, however, I had a 12PM passport appointment for my daughter. Again, as it was a Sunday, there were not many people, but there also were not much staff present, either. I saw two employee windows open, and one was for passports, which is what I needed. The appointments are in 15 minute intervals-- we arrived late, due to unforeseen train issues and while I thought it wouldn't be a big deal. (They have a list and I would suggest you make it on time because I think if there were more people, we would have been told we needed to book a new appointment). We had all of our paperwork and documents, but the process took a little longer than I anticipated. Also, they charged .50 cents per page to copy our documents, which I found to be a rip-off. The employee was friendly, which is sometimes hard to find at the post office, but thought the process could have gone by a little quicker. Also, I had a check to pay since credit card isn't allowed, however, he insisted I used my debit card, which would force me to buy their postal money order, to pay the state for my the passport. Overall, I had a decent experience here, In all actuality, it was a more pleasurable experience than when I got my first passport at the Downtown Brooklyn Post Office at Cadman Plaza and my renewal passport, which I did, last year, at the Rockefeller Center Post Office. I would say you're better off coming here.

Visited the James A. Farley Historic Post Office with my daughter. I needed stamps to mail my post cards from vacation and I also really wanted to see the beauty of the building. Although it's a huge building most of it isn't USPS anymore as they have converted it to office space. Stop by for a quick peak next time in the city

Dec 23rd at 8:35am and only one person on counter service? What's the point of the biggest post office having no staff?

This place is extremely slow. Only two workers for this ginormous post office. I waited about 30 minutes just for some stamps.

They then decided to wedge my 15" fragile item into a 14" long box, completely ignoring the 18" box they charged for and the 2" packaging material rule for fragile items that their own company (UPS) enforces. Plus, they charged for dimensional weight of the larger box (19lbs cost instead of the actual weight cost of 8lbs), then used a smaller box so that the store did not get charged for the 19lbs dimensional weight. So to recap - the store paid for 8lbs of freight but charged customer for 19lbs of freight. Talk about deceptive business practices. This store should be investigated. Do not take your fragile items here to ship unless you packed it yourself. If you get charged for dimensional weight, make sure the store actually uses the appropriate box.
