The depression and the bare minimum - I hate doing my job vibes is written all of the window clerks expressions. Terrible customer service by far

The lady that helped me mail my package seemed nice the day I mailed my box but its ben 2 weeks now and I still have not gotten my package in the mail. The manager Ramsey refuse to help me get a duplicate of my receipt and they won't look up my transactions I paid with my debit card. They ask what lady helped me and then supposedly she no longer works there and her system is locked and there's no way to access her system to find out who she mailed packages for. I told them I knew the date and time but they didn't care. I call other post offices they said that post office can look up the details but it just seems like they don't wanna do their job and take 5 minutes to help me. The manager says his name is Ramsey keeps telling me call back later they are busy like I'm not a customer. I call back and he won't pick up the phone when I contact him he tells me to call at 930am I call and he's not In for work yet. I told him I live in Arizona and I was in NYC for my daughter and grandmothers birthday and the package has her gifts. At that point he told me I need to fly back to new York and request the information in person. He got mad at me when I asked him to work with me because that doesn't make sense. Ramsey was no help but making me mad so I hung up. The next time I called several times and a kind gentleman named McKnight help me locate my tracking number and delivery info within 5 minutes and I ben calling for a whole week now. That's messed up Ramsey has ben a jerk for no reason and giving me the run around. Now I'm thinking that guy is seriously bipolar and has horrible social skills and customer service skills everything is all about arguing to him how the hell is he even a manager!

Wednesday 10:22AM Greeley Station, Chelsea- Flatiron New York, NY 2014 Postal clerks appear robotic and generally disgruntled. I arrived walking through the ropes in hopes to be second in line to wait fifteen agonizing minutes to be served. Suddenly a woman out of nowhere blurted out (not standing properly in line between the ropes) coarsely stated "I'm next!" as she purposely wanted that clerk to serve her specifically in Spanish. Ergo, I had to go back to the start waiting for another fifteen minutes with only three clerks on duty. Standing there I felt very dizzy carrying a 5 lb. box that I nearly fainted onto the ground as it was hot and the air was not circulating sufficiently. I had to return a item purchased online from Forever 21 due to sizing issue. USPS: "How fast do you want it to get there?" Me: What are the options? What is the difference between the speed? USPS: "HOW FAST DO YOU WANT IT TO GET THERE???!!!? DO YOU WANT IT TO GET THERE NEXT WEEK???!!!" in a very abrasive and coarsely tone Me: Next week is fine. USPS: "Do you want it insured?" Me: How much can I insure it? USPS: "WHAT IS THE ITEM WORTH?" in a very vulgar tone Me: About $18.00, no I decline the insurance. Whoa, such abrasive tonal attitude!! A booklet of Harry Potter stamps was on the counter... Accio Harry Potter stamps!! I'm a proud Philatelic and also a huge Harry Potter fan which, of course, I purchased the Harry Potter First Class Forever stamps.

The best USPS I have ever been to! Plenty of social distancing, few customers in line, and lots of kind staff members. :)

Procrastination usually doesn't win out, but thank goodness for a USPS office open until 7pm on…read moreSundays, even during the holiday season! In fact, the only station in the city open on Sundays and a lifesaver for those who started writing holiday cards on the Friday before Christmas. Peering into the "envelopes" mail slot, thousands of pieces of mail were visibly overflowing the sacks, requiring some gingerly wedging of my small booklet-worth of correspondence in between others. Fingers crossed all made it out ok! Shoutout to one of two staff working the two open counters at 5pm on Sunday December 21, you were friendly, prompt and helpful and put your best foot forward for terrific customer service. Only 2 counters were open and the line was about a dozen people long, steadily moving. For service--a solid 5 stars. Facilities are as expected a bit on the older side, being built in 1912 as part of the original Penn Station complex, though the modern conveniences of tap-to-pay technology and self-service weigh/postage stations are available. Waiting in line, the details on the ceiling caught my attention. Maybe because the darker evening outside accentuated the brighter interior, the simultaneously ornamental, scrolling flourishes fitted in repeating geometric patterns stood out in ways I hadn't noticed before. Come to find after some googling the ceiling is decorated with the country seals of 11 countries including the US, the countries part of the universal postal union at the time of construction, an administrative body now under the purview of the United Nations that handles international shipping policies. Not very fun facts: designated a national historic landmark in 1973 and re-named after James Farley, 53rd U.S. Postmaster General in 1982. Previously generically named the General Post Office. Slightly more fun fact: atop the facade along 8th Avenue the inscription reads, "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds." Some may confuse this to be the creed of the U.S. Postal Service, but it's actually not. Rather, it's tied to the tribute that building architect William Mitchell Kendall paid to major historical figures credited with postal advancements. This is an excerpt out of Herodotus's 'Histories', which described the messenger system established in Persia by Cyrus the Great.

As someone who has regularly used this post office for years given its easy availability, including with a P.O. Box there, it amazes me what has developed, especially since the building now also includes Penn Station's Moynihan Hall. Yes, they do have window service every day, but 98% of the time they're slow as molasses long lines because less than optimal staffing levels. Hey, USPS, this is the city that never sleeps, yet P.O. Boxes and self-serve Automatic Centers are now closed off to the public at night!!! Why? (Note - This is despite the faster than inflation, year-after-year increase in this location's P.O. Box rental rates.) Why is the only ADA access, as far as I could find it, on the almost the. complete opposite side of the building towards 9th Avenue inside Moynihan Hall?

Nevertheless, there are times where I need to visit one, and in those cases this is super convenient. For me, the biggest plus this post office has going for it is their operating hours. They're open from 7:30am to 7pm Monday to Saturday which is way longer than a typical branch. This makes it easy if you need to visit before or after work. This is also a huge location - tons of PO boxes and multiple self-serve kiosk stands in case you don't need to wait on the line for your service. Speaking of the line, it's there - as per usual. Despite having multiple tellers and a long queue area, I've only seen two to three people working them - even at peak times. As such, there's always a line - so just be prepared. Overall, this US Post Office is fine. I will use the self-serve kiosks as much as possible, and their expanded operating hours will make me a repeat patron.
