The entire location needs to be shut down and all staff retrained in basic customer service skills. They were too focused on their personal phones and personal calls instead of what they are getting paid for, which is to service the patrons who visit this particular location. Their backs are constantly turned on the line and neither of the staff at this location is eager to help, support or assist. I was told you place the sticker on my envelope or to get away from her window. I thought it was a joke but this staff member was very serious and encouraged other staff not to assist me. Two women working this afternoon severely disrespected my sister, who came to get her passport photo taken. They actually laughed in her face when she said she had an appointment, and she overheard them making fun of her in the back about how young she looked/her size. She actually heard them say, "This b*tch looks like a fourth-grader, there's no way she has an appointment." It was extremely rude, unkind, unprofessional, and when she got upset with them for continuing to question whether she was an adult (she had already showed them proof at this point), they flipped it around on her and told her there was "no need" for her to be upset. These women should know better. They should be absolutely ashamed of themselves, and to whoever is in charge of managing them, you need to look into who was working this afternoon and make sure that kind of behavior never happens again towards a customer. That was beyond awful to do to another person, and a complete embarrassment coming from two grown women. The fact that they felt it was okay to behave that way at their job is horrendous. I had an appointment made w/ Rush Passport they are 3 blocks down from the place so the walk is not a big issue and by the time you are finish w/ rush to head to your appointment you will be on time TRUST ME!!!! The lady, I really forgot her name was a gem, THANK YOU for being true to who are. She was super polite and funny at that, making the experience of waiting 30mins a breeze once she got to me. I sent a package from Florida to NY to a business for a repair. With insurance it cost $18.80. As I tracked it I saw the delivery was attempted at 7:59 am and it was closed. Really!? This service centers opens at 9:00am and has for years and years. The tracking comment says they will try again next business day which for them will be June 10th as they are closed next week for summer vacation. So I cannot get anyone to answer the phone so I can change the delivery until after 9:00 am on the 10th and no one knows when I will get it back and for all of this I had the pleasure of most likely loosing $18.80 and a couple weeks just trying to get my item repaired. I was in there this afternoon to drop off a package and Diana Brown refused to serve me for absolutely no reason. She yelled at me and told me she didn't see me come from the line. I have been to this post office before and have to say they have improved quite a bit. I went Tuesday December 10th and the line wasn't long and the lady behind the glass was very nice and helpful. There were also several people helping customers at the window as opposed to only one or two when I'd been there before. Either way, great job guys! Another helpful person helped me today. Horrible customer service experience at this branch! Employees are rude and act as if you owe them something, unnecessarily aggressive, create unnecessary lines. So many times faced horrible treatment and each time I was the only Asian there. When I said yo the manager maybe they are nasty to me because they are racists as I don't see any other reason, I am polite and they don't know prrsonally. I am a small connoisseur of the US Postal Service. I know how to use the automatic teller machine and I can fill out my customs forms like a pro. I know the difference between parcel post and first class and I know when insurance is worth it and when its not. This particular location is newer and shinier than its counterparts, which makes it feel less depressing when you're on line. The post office is split into three sections. The top right is your standard line for shipping/stamps/talking to the teller. The top left is for the automated teller machine. The downstairs is for PO Boxes and package pick ups. The location and layout make this place great if you're looking for the ATM or the PO Boxes. The tellers are pretty knowledgeable, however I feel that this place is always short staffed as I always have to wait in line. This location opens at 7:30 for the ATM and PO Boxes, but the tellers don't arrive and open until 9:00 am, which means they usually already have a long line at the beginning of the day. I find the best time to come is about 10:30 am and after 2:00 pm. I also think the bullet proof glass and florescent lighting makes the place a little scary and paranoid. This post office is located on 38th st between 7th and 8th. When I need to drop off some mail, I usually drop it in the mail box right in front of the post office. I think there are 3 collection times for that mailbox. Sometimes after a long weekend, the mailbox can get extremely full so I drop it off some other mailbox. I came here today to pick up a medium sized flat rate priority mail box. I needed this to shop something I sold on amazon. Walking in here today it was packed full of people. Lots and lots of people maybe because tomorrow is thanksgiving holiday and the post office is closed. Anyways if you are going to make a stop here make sure to avoid days before long weekends. There were plenty of mail boxes available to take ranging from small to large priority mail boxes. I didn't really get to associate any staff members because I was in and out in no time. I think there's such bad blood between the staff and the customers here that there's even tension on a quieter time, during a quieter part of the week. I was here midmorning on a Tuesday, with maybe only 6 or 7 people in line, and there still managed to be tense exchanges between staff and customers. It's the post office. Be prepared for it to be not awesome, and then you'll always be happy when its north of that. Today (8/10/2022) I visited the USPS location at 223 W 38Th St, New York, NY 10018. I originally had a passport appointment at the 42nd street location but their network was down and their sign advised to visit the 38th street location. I went to the 38th street location and asked the rep if they would honor my passport appt for my daughter. She said that she did not know and said she would check with her supervisor. This was at 9:15am. After waiting 45-min, the supervisor finally approached with a condescending and dismissive tone after I patiently waited for an answer. She then proceeded to tell me that they wouldn't be able to honor my appointment. The only way they could assist me is if they had a cancellation. Relaying all this information in a rude and unprofessional tone. I understand that they couldn't honor the appointment. Completely acceptable. But to be so dismissive after I waited patiently for 45-min is unacceptable. If the USPS is looking to encourage people to use their services, start by treating your customers with empathy and respect. It looks like I am not the first customer to have a bad experience at this location. And likely not the last given the poor leadership. Listen to your customers. read more

basically if western union money orders weren't so expensive I would not come here. The line is at least 20 mins of waiting for about 3 mins of bad tried soul draining service. However, that rare ray of sunshine was this wonderful Asian man who stopped his lobby duties so he could take all of the money order people. Pretty painless visit! There was a long slow moving line and the workers seemed to be yelling orders so for any heavy mailing I may go somewhere else... But I just used the self service kiosk, was able to easily print out a label and put my letter in the mail box! I'd highly recommend leveraging those if you are sending something small or just a letter, was super simple! read more

Then I was told via over the phone - I get a full refund - I don't really care and should have know better but I went back and of course was given an attitude and only partial refund for my lost package!!! Unless you are using an automated process or kiosk, this is probably the worst office in Manhattan. You are far better to walk a few blocks to the main office across from the back side of the Garden. I came here during lunch to drop of a simple letter. The outside mailbox was not opening/broken and so I waited in line inside. When I tried giving the letter to the woman at the booth, i was met with disrespect and her screaming that she will not take it and i need to go somewhere else. She then continued to tell me to get out of her way and repeatedly yelled "NEXT!" "NEXT!" and lastly, asked if i understood her language Of course I understood her. I just didnt think I need to move until I mail my letter for work! This is the post office and people come here to MAIL LETTERS and packages! I guess what she was trying to say is that I should used a machine. Okay, I admit its my fault I couldn't locate another one but there are better ways of communication than yelling and being disrespectful. I have worked in customer service and I will never scream at a customer or act like this. Would it kill them to be just a tad bid nicer? I feel like USPS employees all hate their jobs and do everything possible to make sure no one uses them! In an economy where having a job is a blessing, they really should be more grateful and less aggressive. USPS should not complain about losing money when your customer service makes people hate using you! Would you go to a restaurant again if they put dead bugs on your plate and yell at you for eating slow? No! I work a block away and I hesitate to use this USPS every time due to their horrendous customer service. I really hope something gets resolved. I came here to get a certified letter mailed. I really wanted to get in line to make sure I got it right, but it was too long. I ended up using the Self Serve Kiosk. The wait was not bad at all for the Kiosk. Later I found out that there was two lines. One for passport one for regular mail services. And that there's actually four kiosk, just that two of them were hidden and you wont even notice it till you exit. Make sure you bring a pen. If you end up having to fill out the forms on the side you will need a pen. Good luck approaching them to ask for one. There's a gentleman near the door that was helpful and nice to me. I had no idea where to drop the mail off since the one next to the Kiosk was for parcels. Turns out its all the way in the back wall. Who the hell is going to see it with no damn sign. Last pick up for mail is at 1pm. In and out of the place in about 20 minutes. This place is not stroller friendly or handicap accessible as there are stairs you will have to walk up/down. read more

This post office is okay, but the overall vibe of the place doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies. Why is it that the employees are all behind bulletproof glass like a check cashing place in the ghetto? You stand there in line until a light turns on to give you the green light to head over to an open window. I've been in here twice, and it doesn't seem that busy. Once to buy an international stamp, and another time to pick up some packaging material for priority mail. The Postal office on 42nd Street by Grand Central Station, No stars is what I would have chosen!!! I took my kids to process their passports and April Conwer was the person helping me behind the counter. When we arrived without looking up, she ask do you have an appt. I said yes and she continued to read her document in hand, after a couple of minutes, I asked am I in the right place? and her response was " what does the sign say", I said I wasn't sure, because you didn't look up and I wanted to make sure I was in the right place. She was rude and unpleasant the entire time I was there. Another staff member came out and spoke with her and she says to them, "I am done doing passport applications, I am tired of repeating myself and and answering the same questions". All I could have done at that point was laugh, isn't this what you get paid for? If the application or documents are not right aren't you suppose to let the customer know? I am paying for the service, there is a service fee, if you can't answer questions or tell the customer the process, why are you there? Got in there 5:25 , because the post on 42 between 8 and 9 tracked it down told me it was here. teller was already complaining saying it wont be possible to come back next day which is Saturday and they don't open. Received a piece of mail in a hard cardboard envelope with a clear "DO NOT BEND" sticker, stuffed into my mailbox (see picture). USPS employee said, "whoever sent it to you should've purchased the option to avoid that." To avoid the mail being treated like a piece of trash to stuff into the mailbox? It took two weeks for my package to be delivered. Please know that when you opt for free shipping FedEx and UPS can hand off to your local Post Office after the initial attempted delivery. This is where my nightmare begins. FedEx was supposed to deliver my package on 3/26/14 but came to our business after 5pm, they then handed off the delivery responsibility to USPS. I waited for the package to be redelivered and USPS tried to deliver on 4/1/14 at 6:12pm. I called to tell them that they should try to deliver to my office before 5pm, since we, like most other offices in the 10018 area code, close at 5pm. I decided to go to the W38th Street PO on 4/2/14 to see if I could pickup the package. I was told that the usual delivery person was sick for a few days and no one delivered his packages. I told the woman manning the pickup window that two unsuccessful attempts were logged into the system, and she said they just put it in without ever trying to deliver the packages. She assured me that my package was on one of the postal trucks and that the sick Postal worker was trying to make amends by delivering the packages that sat for two business days. She also recommended that if I saw any USPS trucks in the area that I could walk up to them and have them check their truck for my package by providing the tracking number. I did that with one truck I saw he said he only picks up mail not deliver it. So I waited until 4/4/14 and went at 9am to the Post Office to see if I could pick up my package again, please know that I also went on line to change the redelivery to a pickup on 4/2/14. A different woman was manning the pickup window and told me she that my package was already loaded onto the truck for delivery this morning, even though she never looked at the paper containing my tracking number. She had me leave the paper and write down my name, delivery address, and phone number to be contacted if the package came back. No one called me at all. I filed a complaint online, since the 888 number is automated and never transfers you to a live person. I also called the Postmaster to file a fraud complaint against the post office, since they weren't truthful or helpful about delivering packages. I had another package that was shipped out on 4/3/14 via UPS, who tried to deliver on a Saturday (???) to my place of business. They then handed off to USPS. This made me nervous since I had yet to receive the FedEx package. After I filed the complaint with the Postmaster, Post Office, and the company who shipped my package. Both packages were delivered around 2:30 pm. USPS should be ashamed of how they treat their customers and their service. This post office should really be reprimanded for it's lackluster service. I'm sure there are people who would love to have a job. read more

(Beware, long post, but certainly relevant). Honestly, call it dramatic, but I hope someone releases a tape of how badly I was sobbing in their post office today due to an extremely rude confrontation by one of their employees at this establishment. I had to step out into the front entrance and multiple people had stopped to look or ask me if I was okay. Long story short, I was passed off 3 times by several staff members. However, I came up to this one specific teller, the third and final one, and had the most awful customer service experience to date. She was blaming the computer system because it was taking a bit longer than expected, so I stood there waiting. I did not say anything to her besides, "I would like to send this internationally". I don't know what may have gotten lost in translation back and forth in our conversation, but by the end, she had said some things to me such as: "You don't listen. You made me so upset. Leave, before I come out behind this glass and have to confront you. You are lucky I am even going to take care of your delivery at this point. You have such a bad attitude." I apologized for my poor behavior as I did not know I came off rude, but she cut me off and didn't let me explain my apology. I managed to get to say, " I apologize, I am not trying to have an attitude with you. What did I do that makes you think that way? Can you explain to me what I did?" Even through my tears, I was really not trying to sound rude back, although I was shocked by how 180 degrees she got with me in a matter of seconds. She threatened me again, and then walked away without looking back. I understand its a Friday late afternoon, people are busy, and want to go home, but in all my personal years working in customer service, I have NEVER ever acted this way towards anyone. No matter what time of day or given circumstance. It's downright unacceptable to treat other human beings this way. Period. Not only was it flat out disrespectfully rude, it was incredibly embarrassing, and just plain mean. It burns me to the core knowing that a woman like that is probably going to get away with how she treated me, and will probably treat her future customers when she has to work under pressure. I am not one for mean reviews because I understand things get stressful and busy, things happen and are not intentional. No one goes into work thinking, "I am going to make someone cry today". Fine. This situation was not perfect, I promise any other instance, I aim to be kind and professional when interacting with services such as these. However, her reaction to mine was extremely intentional, even after I apologized, tried to explain, humbled myself, and even wanted to converse with her. I am only a student, and I was attempting to complete a task for my internship, a simple one, that took way too long to complete. Thank you USPO, for doing all the work you do, but I hope no one else has to experience what I have gone through. This place is a disgrace. An update to my previous post: Package did not end up getting delivered, and once again the manager fell through on her promise. It ended up taking three calls to the regional consumers affairs center, and eventually a call to the USPS Consumer Advocate in DC to get my package delivered. All in all it probably took me 20 hours in the span of 2 weeks between visiting this post office, being on hold with various departments to get one simple package redelivered. Yet long behold, its now two months later and I am still experiencing the same problem with packages not getting delivered and management not showing any concern. I have done business with USPS on a national scale for several years and overall its not a bad entity to do business with. However words can not begin describe how absolutely shameful this one post office is. read more
