The staff at this post office are smart, efficient, and genuinely kind to their customers. I have had clerks lend a hand with heavy boxes, help me save money on shipping, and advise on the best way to send things, all without me asking. The wait is usually short, too. But the best part is how friendly, lively, and fun they are! Shipping things is never high on the list of fun things to do, but the staff here never fails to send me out smiling and loving this crazy city. read more

Great post office with great staff. They are just there to help you and the line moves very quick.

Pros: Self Service Kiosks (Three of them), awesome to pop in and out. They also have a full service counter. Flat rate boxes are almost always stocked, as well as priority tape, pens, and mailing slips on counter tops. Cons: Lobby to use self service kiosk is not open at all times like some other post offices. Ours are strange (7:30 - 3 weekdays, closed weekends). If you get there any time after 11 am, budget a full hour in this place if using full regular counter service. They usually have only one or two counter attendants working at a time (even though there are about 15 counters), and the line can stretch to 40-50 people deep. DO NOT GO AT LUNCH TIME!!! Super crowded. Also, one of the women who works there, specifically to help with the kiosks, is a complete bi@$#. She's very pushy, yells at customers to hurry up, and calls everyone "Hey GUY!". Please try to avoid her, not really sure what her name is. Also, one of the counter attendants always asks to see my ID when I pay with credit card. No idea why, this is the only post office I've ever experienced this in. Apparently I always look like I stole someone elses credit card. Last thing, sometimes the receptacle for where you put your packages after affixing the label printed from the self service kiosk is full. And by sometimes, I mean about once every ten days. This is kind of annoying as it's always a clusterf%*& of trying to figure out where to put your package. One time, the guy was coming to collect the packages from the receptacle, and I tried to place my package in the bin he was using. He was like "Man, don't put your package in there", then offered no direction was to where to put it. Annoying. read more

This post office is great - if you don't have to stand in line or talk to anyone. I needed to send a certified piece of mail and wasn't clear on the procedure. I grabbed one of the forms but neglected to grab the other one. While waiting in a line of 25 + people (there were two people working, very slowly) I asked a man working the line if I could send certified mail to a post office box. He said yes but that I needed the second form, so he went and got it for me. About 5 minutes later I got up to a counter and was berated by the man working for not filling out the second form (I didn't know I had to). He yelled at me to go fill it out of the line and when I asked him to explain exactly what to do as I was not familiar with certified mail, he berated me some more (and didn't really explain it). I filled out the other form and stepped back in line. The other guy working called me to his station and then HE berated me for not having affixed the forms to the envelope. I didn't know this had to be done - the only other time I've ever sent certified mail was in Chicago and they did it for me. That's why I asked the first guy to specifically explain it to me. I told him I didn't know what to do because the first guy didn't explain it to me and I didn't see clear directions. He acted like I asked him for a million dollars. He then said "I find it hard to believe that he didn't tell you what to do." I then told him the line guy got the form for me but didn't explain what to do with it and the desk guy scoffed and said "I find it hard to believe that two people here didn't do their jobs." Yes, because I'm lying to you for FUN. I just wasted 30 minutes at the post office and got yelled at for two people for not knowing how to do the job of the people at the post office. I asked for help and only got yelled at. What the heck do these people want? When I left the line he made some sort of laugh and sarcastic comment behind my back. I don't make it a career to know how to mail things out of the norm and when I ask for help, I don't expect to get (literally) yelled at - especially when I'm PAYING for the service. This post office can be confusing with its multiple entrances and exits and dark interior. Once inside, there are multiple self service machines, which is great for things like stamps and small packages! The lines can be long so be prepared to wait. Sometimes there are weird people on line so watch out. Also, the staff can be rude and unhelpful. read more

Just past one in the afternoon and there's a line out the door. They have ONE person on staff during the lunch rush -- who seems in no rush herself. Do you think our politicians intentionally neglect the Post Office so we learn to expect nothing of government? (In any event, it's working.) read more

I've never been to a post office with a nicer staff. Everyone is incredibly helpful and kind, and even though this location gets crowded during the week in the afternoons it's worth it to deal with employees who actually know what they're doing and are kind and courteous. read more

Bad post office!! I came in early at 815am and the line was a mile long. Post office was open at 730am but it was only ONE counter!! They took 10 minutes per customer!! We all have to rush to work here and they have no intention on speeding things up!! Can't be any worst than this read more

I used this post office twice while holidaying from Australia. The "Jersey" teller was great with a wicked sense of humour! I hovered in the line hoping to get him. Happy that he served me both times. The male floor walker was extremely helpful. Sounded like the actor Sam Elliott. Not knowing how the US postal service works makes you feel like a fish out of water, but friendly service made the whole thing ok. I was impressed with the service at this post office. read more

a surprisingly atraumatic post office experience. however, i did use the automated postage thingy so i didn't have to encounter any possibly bitter and/or surly and/or depressed/ing and/or angry postal workers. it was fairly uncrowded and remarkably quiet. all things that post offices in new york generally are not. read more

Wonderful service at Bryant park location always with a smile, very helpful staff. They don't just send you over to the automated machine and let you figure it out. going to any post office big or small in the usa especially in the nyc metro area can be as bad as getting your wisdom tooth removed or kicked in your private area but thank god for self service machines which bypass the sarcastic lazy unfriendly postal clerks . nothing really fancy about this post office on 43rd st off 5th ave that's part of a large building with its basic usps setup if you can avoid waiting on line it's wiser to do the self service postal machines that only take debit or credit card but is a time saver especially when only one clerk window is open and some dude has 20 boxes that need to be shipped . the supply counter is well stocked with forms to fill out and the express and prority boxes that are flat rate but seem to hold very little stuff inside . i was able to send my 2 letters and get a passport form and it's time to bounce as its starting to get crowded line wise and only one window is still open for the pissed off customers . read more

This location closes at 3pm... FYI. I have been there once and it was totally fine, in fact an employee was almost going above and beyond to be helpful to confused customers, allowing them to jump back in the front of the line after they figured out what they needed. read more

I went in to mail out an international package. It had postage, but I had to wait on line for them to scan it. There were 3 windows open at lunch. TWO of them suddenly closed, leaving 20 of us to wait for the single window open, which was taking care of a huge pile of mail for that customer. When I pointed this out to the roving attendant, he snipped that there were only 4 people working there that day. They are useless, lazy and bitter here. Go to another location. read more

My experience in trying to mail a package this morning was absolutely terrible. Not only was the clerk rude and unhelpful, he also scolded me in a threatening way not to leave "trash" on his desk. The trash he was referring to was a piece of transparent tape that was already on the desk. There did not seem to be any manager in sight, but if there were I would imagine that this clerk would have been reprimanded for his incredibly unprofessional attitude and behavior. I agree with the reviews about rude and sarcastic service. I was absolutely stunned by my experience here. I overheard a confused customer getting yelled at by a teller because she was having trouble understanding their credit card/debit card policy. (Frankly, the way the guy was explaining it, I had no idea what he was saying either.) Then a teller called me to his window, asking if I was ready. I quietly said, "yes" or "I'm ready" as I walked up and set my package down on the counter. He proceeded to yell at me about "slamming" my package on his counter and refused to help me. I was shocked. I had not slammed my package down at all (in fact, I was in a really good mood!) and had no clue what he was talking about. The guy must be mentally unstable or on some kind of power trip. I asked for his name and he ignored me. I completed my transaction at the computerized machine, shaking from the experience, while four women came by to tell me they'd had similar experiences with this man before and that he was clearly nuts. Why does the post office employ someone like this?! I will never go here again and will be making sure that there's disciplinary action against this man. Go to the post office at Grand Central - the folks there (while surly and bored-looking) are at least not insane. read more
