When I saw the low star-rating for our Ojai post office, I was shocked & curious. Although there are 1or2, fairly recent, unfavorable reviews, the majority of those are from the pandemic years. At that time, not many businesses WERE able to operate effectively, with people stressed and on edge, getting sick, & calling off. I do agree that it IS the responsibility of top management to address the issues of mail and packages repeatedly being delivered to wrong addresses, in poor condition, or just not delivered! If these complaints are mostly on a specific route or area, maybe there's a "bad apple" in the bunch. FIX it! When I first moved to Ojai, 18 years ago, I was taken aback at how friendly, engaging, interested & interesting, and welcoming the personnel in this very post office were. They couldn't have made a better first impression on me! And I've got to admit, that impression has endured, by being served & helped well. Yes, the lines can get long, and I especially remember times during the Covid pandemic that were dreadful...but I understood the situation, and didn't take it out on the postal workers. It's not easy, serving the public all day, day-in and day-out. And some of the complaints here are SO personal... Gracious!... A cobweb here, a smudge on the counter there? This used to be a Wild-West, country-town, man! LOL. You should have been here Then!! And some folks are just used to complaining, everywhere they go, every day. And others DO have a legitimate beef here, but I think a lot of the problems, starting around 6 years ago, have been addressed and resolved, statistically speaking. So, IMHO, I think the Ojai USPS has earned, and deserves, all five stars! read more

Reporting this PO - more than several times in the past few months have had very sensitive items delivered to my neighbors. Car registration, tax items, cc offer. Today was the last straw as something from my bank (which includes acct #) was mis-delivered. Lucky for me, my neighbors have been nice enough to make sure these items have gotten to me. I'm giving this place 5 stars to try and offset the negative reviews that have been given by several people. I don't agree with some people who give 1 star reviews for issues that a business doesn't really control...not open enough or no bathroom or a homeless guy panhandling out front. This post office is in a classic building, fits well with downtown Ojai and has pleasant, helpful, friendly staff who, in my experience, try very hard to do their job. read more

It harkens back to small village post office days when locals picked up their mail and had a chat. There is usually a line, but it has all the mail supplies you need. Losing mail and packages, returning mail and packages with no explanation, and to top it off when I moved and put in a change of address in person all my mail was returned to sender because they had no record of a change of address and my post office box was closed out even though I had paid for 2 months in advance past my moving date. I'm in my driveway and along comes the postal truck. They drop off the mail and when I go to pick it up there is a pink note left behind for something I ordered that requires a signature. The note says "sorry we missed you while you're out." I am literally standing in my driveway for Gods sake and the carrier isn't making the slightest effort to have me sign for it. Does t even look my way to see if someone is home. Off he goes with my package in his truck. Lazy, inconsiderate and hopeless with anything that requires more than looking straight ahead and trying to get home as fast as possible. No stars here. read more

It's been 10 years and i still have the same issues with this same post office after all this time, they simply refuse to deliver packages to my front gate / door step if it does not fit in the mailbox. I recently ordered a few jam glass bottles but when they arrived, the carrier refused to deliver the package, so they left a redelivery notice, i went online and submitted the redilivery form but was never updated. So i called the corporate USPS office the next day and complained to them that i constantly have this issue and was trying to get an update on the redelivery, at which point they told me there's no info they can provide. Not once did i receive an update on the redelivery, i didn't even know it was delivered until 2 days later when i went looking for it around the front gate. When i did find the package, it was smashed like someone had either sat on it or stepped on it on purpose, considering the contents were nothing but glass, this is really bad. Fortunately nothing was broken but the entire experience was just horrid, not to mention i had a package delivered that same day by Amazon Prime and they had zero issues delivering to my front gate, in acceptable condition (i.e not smashed) After 10 years i'm tired of dealing with these lazy USPS employees, do your job! read more

The Ojai Valley Post Office (only Post Office in the town) is currently not issuing drop off receipts for pre-paid insured shipping label customers due to covid. Instead, they are making customers leave all pre-paid packages behind the Post Office building at the shipping dock, (no employees around to oversee the packages, and no cameras), where they sit unsupervised for hours at a time. I've recently 2 lost parcels in the last month (I'm assuming stolen off the back of their porch), and USPS personnel at that branch couldn't care less. I've been using USPS to ship for my business for years, and never had 2 parcels go missing within such short dates with no information updated on the tracking service. So today, I decided to try my luck again. I waited in line today and asked a lady nicely at the counter (Julie) for a drop-off receipt. I was berated for "walking past the signs" and it was insinuated that "I didn't know how to read", and she still refused. The only way I was able to get her to scan them in at the counter (and she STILL wasn't willing to give me a receipt for some reason) was by threatening to void all my pre-paid labels and have them re-make all labels for all my parcels right then and there, since their "leave it out back unsupervised" policy only applies to Prepaid labels. All other services are still offered at the counter.  Seems like they are refusing to issue drop off receipts just to be petty. I mean, the lady in front of me literally just bought a roll of packing tape, and they didn't have a problem with that whatsoever... read more

I had paid for my PO Box through July 30, and I was not able to change billing information online so I had to call the customer service people to help me change it and even they couldn't. So then she said I should just cancel the PO Box and because I have paid through July I can re-open the same box by then with the correct credit card information online... she helped me cancel it right then. When I went to the post office today, the 18th, the PO Box had already been closed and I have no more access to it. I was even told over the phone there will be a 10 day grace period after July 30th in case something happens and I'm not able to do it by then. So when I went into the post office today and see my PO Box is closed the lady at the counter couldn't have been meaner, un-kinder and non-caring, kept giving me the cold shoulder and whenever she did speak with me it was very aggressive. I'm honestly very shocked because the ladies in there have always been so nice to me and I have always had such a wonderful relationship with them. I don't know if they're overworked and under paid, I don't know if she had a really horrible day to begin with and I made it worse for her for some reason, but between the interactions online, on the phone, and with her today I am very disappointed and I will never open a PO Box with the post office again. read more

Welcome to Ojai Post office, where the two working employees today were rude and gave TERRIBLE customer service . This is my second time at this post office in the past 2 weeks, and it was the same to employees who are rude and obnoxious and not worthy of jobs facing the public. I have been in customer service for 35 years and I would never treat anybody the way I was treated today. They were insulting, they even made commentary to each other in front of me in regards to me. They are not helpful. I couldn't get out of there faster. The other gentleman that was there felt the same because when we got in the parking lot we talked about it and he agreed 100% with how terrible that energy was in there. Now I know why I avoid the post office like I do. If you need to send your packages I would go elsewhere I would not go to the OI Post office go to attitude adjustment in Ojai they've treated me friendly every time. read more

The Ojai Post Office doesn't care about their customers' safety. Yesterday, I entered the PO to mail an item. The line was to the door. Every customer, except one, was wearing a county-mandated face mask. This rather smug, bullet-proof man was not. One man engaged him in conversation regarding the lack of protective face wear. Smug stated that he didn't believe in fear; he believed in God. Okay. Religious nut. Apparently he doesn't believe in science or common sense, either. A second man engaged him. Smug "thanked" him for his advice. Well, I thought, that went about as expected. That's ok. The postal clerks will call out any time now, "Sir, you can't be in here without a face mask." (A very clear sign was posted on the door advising to this county ordinance.) No such call came. Smug eventually got up to his place at the top of the line. Well, I thought, they'll see him here. They'll tell him that he can't be served without a face mask. No. What did the clerk do? (She shall remain nameless.) She called up and asked "what can I do for you sir?" Just as if nothing was amiss. Smug completed his transaction (after spraying everything at the counter with his germs) and went his happy way, now emboldened to continue being a cretin. I've had good service at this post office. Though sometimes there is a wait, it's usually shorter than my favorite post office (in Thousand Oaks). Parking can be a bit difficult to find, which is the biggest drawback here. There are a few 20 minute spots nearby, and those are the best, if you can snag one. read more

I've shipped 9 trackable packages through this post office over the last month. Unfortunately only 2 were origin scanned in at this facility. The rest only showed tracking from scanning at other facilities. Has this branch decided not to bother with scanning package labels anymore?? Makes things really difficult when you try to explain to customers that, yes the parcel was dropped off, but no, the post office at this end just doesn't bother scanning packages in any more. Please wait until it reaches your end before hoping for any tracking info. This is not acceptable! The Ojai Post Office just lost my business. I'll stick with UPS. Costs a little more, but at least they have the professionalism to operate like a business. read more

US POST OFFICE DOES NOT HONOR THEIR INSURANCE CLAIMS. I will never use them again for shipping; I will only use UPS or Fedex. I bought from a good vendor on Etsy who shipped a a fairly light, portable typewriter (well-packaged, well protected) to me with insurance from US post office. Package was damaged - looked like it was dropped from a height - seriously damaged the typewriter with a huge dent in the front. Seller filed a claim. I received a letter with claim number and took the letter, product and all packaging materials to this post office so they could "inspect" the package, per their instructions on the claim form. I got to Ojai post office and was told "we don't process claims." Basically, we can't help you. Uhhh. Well, who does? "St. Louis, Missouri. You need to call them and deal with them." Ridiculous. There's not even a telephone number on their claim form. Hmm wonder why. Since that was unacceptable to me, a brown/red haired woman came up from the back, took the product and said "I'll take care of it" and walked away, giving me no receipt, no documentation, no information, but lots of attitude. So I stayed and questioned that. I'm not going to give you my product without proper documentation. Every time I asked a question or asked for service, they gave me the run-around. It was terribly unprofessional and they just deflected responsibility. This is for insurance that was purchased! I've since found out they are notorious for being problematic with their shipping. And the lack of understanding of procedure and attitude at this post office - unacceptable. Will not be doing business with them again. I can see the draw of living in a small town such as Ojai - there are not lines everywhere. Seriously, best thing about this post office is its location. Easy and plentiful parking on the streets (2 hours between 9-6p), there is little or no wait when you get in to mail a package, and the service is super friendly. We usually go to the Oak View location but went to Ojai for some errands and stopped at this one. Guy behind the counter seemed like he was in a good mood, laughing and then walked away, we were the only ones waiting in line. Kenny returned and looked annoyed that we were there and proceeded to be incredibly rude regarding my packages. I ship several boxes a week for my job and this was the first time I've ever had a problem. I crossed the stickers off since they didn't all come off all the way and he thought the world was going to end. Didn't ask us to remove them just started at the box. Instead of just telling us what he needed, he just made comments. We removed as much as we could and finished our transaction. Kenny was incredibly rude through the entire process, no thank you, no how are you doing today. We will always go to Oak View or use UPS and have encouraged our neighbors and friends to avoid the Ojai location, seeing as several other people have also complained about this location and him.
