Where is the selection for zero stars. If this location has a 4-star rating it's for the postal workers who used to be there (they truly were a wonderful crew). The employees who work there now are horrendous to say the least. For many people, that would be a really good job. Better pay, benefits and pension than many people have. This bunch should be a little more grateful or quit and let someone more deserving have the position. I need to get a new passport and I'm afraid to go back in that den of evil! read more

I have to chime in on this as well. The prince lady is the best example of customer service I have seen in a long time. Her positivity radiates throughout this post office. Give that women a raise and an award and have her teach everyone else in Philly about customer service. read more

This is my favorite Philly post office, by far. My "official" post office is the horrible dump on Dickinson. They are not only nasty there, but the facilities are filthy and old and they repeatedly either lose my mail, or just don't deliver it. Luckily, this gem on 4th St is closer. If it's possible to love a post office, this would be the one. read more

There is always a line, and you know why? Because they are awesome! I don't live in this area, but I drive out of my way to use it as my post office. They ladies who work here are NICE, they brighten your day, and do their jobs with ease and swagger. The employees here need to train all the other post office employees. I'm willing to wait in line for someone who knows their job inside and out and is nice to each and every customer. read more

if this isn't the best post office in the city, i'm a monkey's uncle. first of all, open til 7 on weekdays. a godsend for my procrastinating ass. this alone would give it at least three stars. now, of course you're going to wait in line. the USPS is financially fucked, have you not heard? i haven't seen more than one person on duty in ANY post office since like 2010. it's the new normal. i have waited for 30 minutes in line, i have waited for 3 minutes in line. never, however, have i not waited in line. the ladies who work here are AMAZING. courteous, patient, knowledgeable and sweet (the Prince shrine is pretty awesome too). i am really bummed that i moved up to the F-town and no longer frequent this location. tip: if you drive here, be vigilant about those meters...the PPA around here is vicious. read more

Just tried to stop in here, a half hour before their posted closing time. So why aren't they open? No sign explaining a changed closing time, nothing but a locked door. I also tried calling the phone number that was listed, but all I got was a busy signal. Not cool. read more

If you have 5 minutes to spare, don't go to this post office. But if you have about 30 min, then definitely go here! The people are ultra super friendly. It's surprising and refreshing to finally meet happy and cheerful people, nonetheless at a post office!!!!! And the locals are also very laid back and friendly. It does take a bit of time but it's really worth it if you can spare it. Although I have experienced the typical frustrations that come with any USPS office in abundance here, I will say that the women normally working there always seem to be happy to help their customers--and that should be mentioned. They are the single thing that changes my rating. They are great, the overall experience however is still, well, it's the Post Office. read more

I ended up writing Christmas cards very late, only to realize that I didn't have any stamps (at 6pm). Being three days before Christmas I expected the worst, both in terms of the lines, waiting, and the grumbles of the post office workers. I was completely surprised to see only two people in line (I surprisingly caught a slow moment), a new teller opening (!) up and completely friendly employees. Another plus was the music playing, can't remember what it was, but it was upbeat, and not Christmas music--a definite plus in my book. I'll be sure to come here again (rather than the Dickinson branch). read more

Amazing service!!! The lady at the counter was so nice and helpful that everyone who came in left with a smile. She explained shipping options very clearly and offered suggestions. More often than not I have to leave and come back because there's one person working and I spend my whole break waiting behind someone mailing a million packages. I just want to say They Opened on time (10:02am) on Saturday, got to us customers right away and Karen helped me out with my passport expeditiously and was very friendly and personable. This is something to rave about because good customer service in the Philadelphia post office system is really, really... really hard to come by. The camera for Passport photos was down at the time, but Karen recommended a place just around the corner to get the photo and still allowed me to process everything needed for the Passport, told me to bring her the photo when i came back, don't stand in line, come to the front and she would handle... and that she did. I live in the Fairmount section of the city but would surely go back to South Street any time to do business here. read more

I would love to know why, on a Saturday afternoon, there is only one person working. I am currently standing in line, with three people in front and now four behind me, and over the past 11 minutes I saw one person emerge from the back, but quickly retreat. This is another reason why people turn to fedex and ups...better customer service by not having people wait an enternity for simple services. For Years I'd been complaining about my mail delivery and nothing . The mail most of the time gets delivered to the wrong address, and a lot of time I get other people's mail.I have missed a few of my bill payment due to this issue because Id never received the bills. I even spoke to the mail carrier woman and she told me that it was not her,but as am speaking with her, I checked my mail ,and I had someone else mail in my mail box. Just when I was about to give up all hope that there were friendly postal service workers like the ones I remembered from my childhood, I moved to the neighborhood with the most amazingly friendly and courteous staff. My prior experiences of long lines and uncaring employees were mostly found at the 9th and Market location where I found myself all too frustrated on a regular basis. Now that I live near the 4th Street location I am actually excited to make visits to pick up stamps and send my holiday cards. The music is always on point, the lines are never more than 2-3 people deep, the employees are so unbelievably nice and clearly enjoy the work that they do. The two ladies here never hesitate to answer your questions and take the customer service role seriously. I am happy to have them just around the corner from my apartment and would actually go out of my way to give them my business if I didn't live nearby simply because the service is that top notch. read more

I often have to mail things for work, and I much prefer taking my business here, which is on my way home, than a post office that is closer to my work.
