Another time, it might be some rambunctious teens in the parking lot. Or, like tonight, it might be an unexplained gaggle of teeny old Asian ladies using the broad sidewalk outside like their private patio and just chatting away in their wheeled chairs and walkers. I like to think of it as local color. Local meaning: an odd intersection of high school back alley / retirement home / low income housing / Ross Dress 4 Less / LA Fitness / Joann's / cineplex. And color meaning: red as in roses (a la Avenue of the same), white as my knuckles, and blue as in collar and occasionally language. So, but. It has a self-serve postal machine that's open late, which is awesome. It has those flat-rate boxes and envelopes that make life a million times easier, and can provide a tracking number, and are still way cheaper than UPS or FedEx. It's fairly spacious, so you're not breathing down anyone's neck if you find yourself waiting, and you're never hunting for parking. I like it. Even though sometimes I sorta fear for my safety. But that just makes it more exciting. Kinda? Anyway. It's a decent post office. It takes your money and whatever it is you want to mail, and delivers it across the country, or just down the street. Today, I mailed my hair to a lady in Georgia. You can't do that online! It's a pretty nifty system, that USPS, and this particular spot is a fairly easy portal into the post. I reeeeeally want to call it the whole package, but Lents, man... it's pretty outside the box.

SO after being in our new location for 5 weeks our mailman came and asked us if we had ordered the key yet. And since we hadn't, he said we could pick up our mail at the post office until then. So off I went and whoa what a line!! But then a savior emerged and asked if anyone was there to pick up mail or packages. Yes yes yes I am sir!! So I let him know our situation and he took care of getting me the mail. This post office is about 5 minutes from our office so it was super easy to get there and back. I was also impressed at how friendly he was and how good the service was at a post office. Ten out of ten.

This is the main…read morePost Office for downtown Portland and it's quite large with lots of parking out front, and a huge area dedicated to P.O. Mailboxes. They have extended hours, staying open until 6:30 in weekenights, rather than the typical 5mor 5:30pm. My only complaint is the 2nd door to enter is soooo heavy and a challenge to push open for those of us with strength and shoulder issues. They should have a handicapped button to enable easy access for those in a wheelchair, and people like me with chronic shoulder issues. There is a ramp out front for those unable to climb the set of 5 steps.

Which led me to remember how much I like the U.S. Post Offices system. Growing up in Sacramento, California, the Pony Express history was pretty common knowledge. I always thought how cool and rough it would be to be a Pony Express rider. Just on a horse riding at top speed for days on end. Never mind bandits or first people shooting at you in random areas along the way. So I enjoy going to different locations and checking out the building. Looking for the dedication plaque. Seeing the services available. This downtown Gresham Post Office has a strange one-way in one-way out parking lot, but it has 2 different drop box locations on site. One is across the street and fills up fast throughout the day. The other drop box is found on your way out of the parking lot by the exit you'll see 2 boxes. This is busy location and sometimes those drop boxes can all be full to the brim but no worries. The lobby is open late. You can drop off mail inside. I came here a couple times during the holidays and the line's were long but they moved along nicely. The employees are all nice and helpful. I may be getting a P.O.Box here soon. They have lots of boxes available.

first off let me unequivocally state that some NICE FOLKS WORK HERE. unfortunately on 12/27 there…read morewas no people there, so I was faced with obtaining postage from their dreaded, ancient, and infamous Self Service Machine. total time invested- about 55 minutes. total payoff: one of two small packages properly labeled and dropped off for mailing. here's how it went, if you are interested. I waited behind a couple of folks, one was mailing two packages and one may have been running an ebay store out of her apartment. 20 minutes later I'm at the machine. package ONE: punch in disclaimers, nothing explosive, etc. it weighed the package. after a minute or so it provided the weight on screen, allowing me to move on to dimensions. it is supposed to automatically read the dimension but it was a slim package so it couldn't read it. so after a few minutes of freeze time, it allowed me to manually punch in the dimensions. then I used the clunky onscreen keyboard to enter recipient name/address, sender name/ address, and 6 minutes later I apparently made it to the end of the process. I hit CONTINUE SHOPPING since I had two packages, a decision I would gravely regret. package TWO: same process, it weighed the item, failed on the auto-dimension feature even though this package was bigger, and i punched in all the info. eventually I Got to the last screen and selected Purchase Postage. it was then I realized that when I previously hit CONTINUE SHOPPING that completely cancelled out my six minutes of hard work I had performed for package ONE. it let me purchase the postage (for package TWO only) and after a few long pauses for drama, it gave me the postage and another long pause for the receipt. package ONE: went back to my first package, starting this whole mess again, disclaimers, etc, but it wouldn't even take the weight of the package this time. backed out. cancelled transaction. started again. scale not working. I decided to call it a day before I became violent. I left with 50% of my packages in the mail and a solemn vow not to ever again try to use any piece of automated electronics that is running on vintage 1990s software.

The staff here are very nice and helpful and it's usually empty when I stop by on my lunch break. When I recently went to send in my passport renewal, the woman at the desk was able to save me money by using a flat rate envelope over the legal mailer I brought in. She also made sure I had all the materials and everything was signed. I've been nervous about the whole renewal process and she helped give me a bit more confidence that I at least provided everything I needed.

While I've never used their passport services, which seems to be where issues are, I have bought supplies and sent out multiple packages, purchased holiday stamps and visit here to return prepaid packages - all with no issue and friendly service.

We spent $300 on banners and posters and then were told that the coupon was only good for "self printed" materials and they couldn't offer a discount to non-profits. Worse, the quality of the prints was poor and they screwed up the rasterization process leaving artifacts in our prints! The manager refused to correct the mistakes or give us credit towards a reprint. We highly recommend finding a real print shop to get your prints done and avoiding the inexperienced and unprofessional "services" of FedexOffice.
