This is the closest postal office to my house, so I've ended up coming here quite a few times. Unfortunately, I can't say I've ever had a good experience. The staff is consistently unfriendly, and one particular woman who works there regularly speaks to customers with a noticeable attitude. On my most recent visit, I came to drop off a package that didn't have a QR code. I asked if they could print the label for me--they said no, so I went to the library, printed it out, and came back. When I returned with the label and my package, I asked if they could tape it on for me since I didn't have any tape. The man at the counter refused, even though there was a roll of packing tape sitting right next to him. It was a small label on a lightweight package--it would've taken two seconds, max. That moment left me feeling so defeated that I ended up crying in my car. I've never felt so frustrated over something so minor. As for value, this place offers very little. The time, effort, and emotional toll of dealing with unhelpful service here simply aren't worth it--especially when there are friendlier options elsewhere. I highly recommend going to a different location if you have the choice. Customers deserve basic kindness and support, especially at a public service facility like this. read more

Okay--so no one will be able to beat the hilarity of the "Lents flavor" rating but if you've sampled USPS locations this station really is one of the better ones. Why? Consistent employees that literally have the patience to deal w/ every single person in line in front of you. You hear & see what they deal with AND they come back to do it again. For folks that have businesses that require shipping, the drop bins here are easy to access & typically not like playing Jenga as it can be at other stations--you hear that, Montavilla?!? Never have a problem w/ items tracking or arriving--got that, Oregon City?!? No issues getting in & out of there w/ parking--yeah, Sellwood, that means you w/ Milwaukie downtown close behind. In a nutshell, if your biggest concern is whatever you are shipping gets to its final destination--Lents PO is the G.O.A.T. of Metro Posts. I came in to return a package from eBay it came with a automate return label. Michelle is the one I came up to the window she asked what is inside which is a media player She then told me I can't ship it back because it might contained lithium battery and the label not able to use priority box to ship. However, I contacted shipper they said it good to ship it back with the same box and it should be covered. I brought it back to different location of US postal They scanned it printed it out all is done without any problem. I'm wondering if Michelle taking her job seriously or being ignorant at time may be all the time. Just do everyone a favor a quit your damn job I spoke to my family members and friends they all have bad experiences with Michelle. Why is Michelle still working here after all these 1-star reviews about her? I waited 20 minutes in line with a package that she would not accept (even though it should have been, because I took it to the one on Foster afterward and they gladly accepted it). She was SO rude about it and would NOT stop talking over me when I was trying to explain the situation. I was only up at the counter for about 30 seconds in all, she just kept interrupting and yelling over me and then shoved my package back at me with a smirk and said "heh, sorry. NEXT IN LINE". Honestly, this woman needs a lesson in how to treat human beings. I'll be driving out to Foster with any post needs I have from now on. The funny thing is I'm shipping out a CRAZY amount of packages this season, and I was going to do it here until today. Unfortunately, this is the closest location to my house. I get anxiety when I walk in because I know nothing about postal services and the workers make me feel bad for asking for help, and act as if they don't want to help. I've never had a good experience at this place. None of the workers are pleasant to deal with. A package i sent internationally came back to me empty and the box was pretty much destroyed. After trying for a year to get my money back for the item, I gave up finally after they told me that the Post Office I sent it from didn't fill out a damage report for it. So I am out a skateboard. I had to even coax the postal worker at the counter to refund my money for postage. That was the last time I will ever send anything postal service. Not that it matters to them, but you see, if they would have at least given me the amount I paid for the skateboard (of which I had a receipt) I would have been fine. Social Security cards, credit cards, and birth certificates are not acceptable IDs. The Post Office will accept a * Valid driver's license or state ID card. * Military, government, university, or recognized corporate ID. * Passport, alien registration card, or certificate of naturalization. * Current lease, mortgage, or deed of trust. * Voter or vehicle registration card. * Home or vehicle insurance policy." Presented staff with current passport & home insurance policy (one valid photo ID & one current non-photo ID) was told NO we won't open a box. You need to show you bought home! (are there no renters in Portland) NO I have the documents listed. Why won't you honor the documents. All I heard was NO! over & over & over again. DO YOUR DAMN JOB PEOPLE! Employees then started saying things about me in foreign language - I didn't get 100% of it but I certainly knew the select words & they weren't positive. Everyone in the branch should be FIRED! Customer service is ZERO and they can't even follow a simple procedure when provided in plain black & white. Take all your business elsewhere & send these idiots to the unemployment line. read more

This is a post office, so has its limits and expectations. Two of the three people here today have worked at this office for yeas, and they're both friendly, knowledgeable and human. I rarely go to USPS, but have had to use this location a few times, all of which I have not had a positive experience. Understandably the lines are long because of the upcoming holidays which is completely understandable so doesn't impact my rating, but this particular time I had a return to complete, patiently waited for over 20 minutes and when I got to the counter, no hi, no anything. I nicely told the man I needed to complete a return. I already had my items in the bag however did not seal it as I wanted to be sure prior to doing so that there were no slips I needed to put in and they didn't need to examine the contents of the package etc. I told the gentleman I had a QR code from the business and he said he couldn't take it until I seal it, but would not provide tape without me purchasing an entire roll. This was not laziness on my part, rather just not knowing it wouldn't be available as the nearby UPS always does it (and with a smile). This would have been a time it seems like someone making an exception would've been the right thing to do, but the attitude on top of it just made the experience so much worse - he was completely rude when delivering the message. They have a ton of redundant signs, but no clear signage when you enter, prior to getting to the counter, that packages need to be sealed and tape is only available for purchase would be moving forward. read more

Came here to mail out a birthday card to my brother who lives in France. The lady (the one who is always at the third counter, with glasses) made me complete a custom form for A BIRTHDAY CARD and wanted to charge me $14!!! This was ridiculous! I decided to go to the PO on 50th and Foster and they only charged me $3.23! They didn't even ask me to complete a custom form. Always had bad experiences with this lady. Her name is MICHELLE, I had been going to this post office for years because it's the closet on my area and this person is very rude, talk very loud, scolding customer when you didn't do right with whatever package your sending and intimidating. I have no problem with other staff and I have no problem waiting but I have a problem with this particular person. I put up with her attitude many times but I can no longer keep quiet. One of the biggest questions running through a reviewer's mind when he sits down to scribble off a missive is: do I base my review on the business itself, or the people that patronize that business? It's not as easy to answer as one might think. Especially in a post office. A United States Post Office location is one of those places, those houses of government service, that attracts all kinds. Everyone, regardless of socioeconomic status, age, race, ethnicity, preference, hair color or creed has to mail some shit every now and then. And to do that, they come here. They come to the place that makes the mail go... slow. I live in my own little bubble. I have my friends, my fellow yelpers, my co-workers, the people I do business with, the people that eat at the same restaurants as I do, drink at the same bars with, go to the same shows as i do, shop at the same stores I shop at, etc, etc. And that's really a heck of a lot of places... It all amounts to what I feel is a pretty diverse (and quite large) sphere of humanity... ...or is it? I've come to realize it's not. While my social bubble includes many people of different ethnicity, gender, social strata, age, economic status, and so on... it doesn't include the people that I run into every time that I go to the Lents - Eastport United States Post Office. Oh, definitely not. Where these people come from, I haven't the foggiest. I can only imagine they come from the Wal-Mart next door (another place whose clientele and I don't share the same social circle). I'll just say this: Taz- and Tweety-based fashion is still alive and well, and it lives at the Lents Post Office. My general refusal to shop at places like Wal Mart and Best Buy and Big-Box-Whatever probably helped shelter me from this dismal reality for the past ump-teen years. I honestly thought that it crawled into a corner somewhere and passed peacefully into the night. Nope. I was wrong. I will also say this: People from Lents mail shit. A lot of shit. Are they all running ebay businesses? Is the entire population of deep-SE-PDX involved in some form of "Earn up to $3,000 per week working from home!" type of business? God only knows. I generally only have one or two things to mail at a time, but just about every time I get in line at this post office, someone in front of me has at least 100 or so Priority Mail boxes teetering like a too-tall-tower of blocks in their arms. Really? Yes, really. I must also add this: Someone once said something to the effect of "there are only two sure things in life - death and taxes." I will add a third. The third sure thing in life is the incredibly angry and insanely unreasonable person in front of you in line at the Post Office. Since this is one of the only three sure things in life, you can bet your sweet ass that it's a truism at this Post Office as well. Sometimes three-fold. How hard can it be to understand the rules of the system? How hard is it to WRAP YOUR GODDAMN FUCKING PACKAGE CORRECTLY? How is it the Postal Service Employee's fault that you're too mentally challenged to understand the basic tenets of mailing a letter or parcel? How hard is it to comprehend that the post office is so big, so gargantuan, and so governmental, that a) the postal employee standing across from you did not write the rules, b) they're not lying to you, c) they have no incentive to break the rules just for you, and d) they don't want to be there just as much as you don't? Anyone who has enjoyed the pleasure of standing in line at the Lents/Eastport Post Office knows that all of those things are obviously really, incredibly fucking hard... at least for some people. So amidst internal queries of above-referenced nature one duly ponders while standing in line at, and bicycling home from, the Lents/Eastport United States Post Office, the question again arises: Do you rate the business based on the business itself, or the people who patronize that business? From the 4-solid stars at the top of this review, you'll guess the business itself, rather than the people who get in my way at said business, is the basis for this rating. The United States Post Office - Lents at Eastport offers your standard set of Post Office services - post, parcel, passport, PO Boxes, and all sorts of other P-related shit you ain't never even thought of before, and generally it does so with at least half of a smile. An Automated stamp and parcel machine out front that seems to be too difficult for most of the locals to use is the icing on the cake for this location (indicated by the fact that I've never seen anyone but myself use it), for unless I'm mailing international or I need some special service, I can avoid the line of said above-listed non-Donosphere humanity and simply mail my shit and break the hell out. Worst. Post Office experience. EVER. Ok, first of all -- I LOVE THE US POSTAL SERVICE. It's like a magical thing that I can ship all over the world and it's very affordable and reliable. I run an online Etsy store so use the USPS all the time. Also, I lived with a mail carrier and have seen how hard these people work. All I can say is the folks at Lents must be mistreated, or there's something in the staff coffeemaker that makes them hostile. I recently moved to this neighborhood and have the unfriendliest mail carrier. He won't pick up my packages that have postage on them, which I understand can be a hassle if they're big. But he's left 11-oz packages. Come on. He's been rude and unmannerly when asked direct, friendly questions. So today I had a package go missing in Hollywood, CA and filed a report online. Was marked as delivered in the tracking info but the CA P.O. left a "Sorry We Missed You" form 3849. Got an email from Customer Service at Lents asking for a phone call to follow up. Called to speak with the Customer Service manager who is on vacation this week and instead spoke with Holly. I just needed some direction, maybe an 800 number, just some help -- next steps, advice, you know...customer service. Holly lost it immediately. Raised her voice and demanded, WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO FROM A THOUSAND MILES AWAY. THIS IS NOT OUR PROBLEM...it was...insane. I asked if there was a follow-up protocol, an 800 number, something, and she kept yelling WHAT DO YOU EXPECT ME TO DO...it was horrible. Just be solutions-oriented, you know? Just treat me like a human being. It sucks dealing with the public, I get it. I've worked retail. I've been a waitress. But just be kind. Really not necessary to freak out, to be rude and aggressive. I'll be following up with a formal complaint, I can only imagine how she treats people who need serious immediate assistance. I'll avoid this Post Office as much as possible. read more

Michelle was kind enough to "waive" the "fee" for using free USPS Priority Labels, even though I ordered the them online (mainly because this branch seems to run out of supplies on a regular basis). Michelle did her duty in asking for my ID when using my credit card, but refused to accept it, even after I offered another form of Government issued identification. Michelle accepted my cash payment and inspected each and every bill (yes, including my $5 USD) to ensure nothing was amiss in our transaction. Save yourself the time (if your situation allows) and use the self service machine in the lobby. The screen will not racially profile you like Michelle. read more

At least 70 percent of the times I've been here, I feel like something shady is going down. One time it might be a series of sketchy dudes harassing people for change at the front door. Another time, it might be some rambunctious teens in the parking lot. Or, like tonight, it might be an unexplained gaggle of teeny old Asian ladies using the broad sidewalk outside like their private patio and just chatting away in their wheeled chairs and walkers. I like to think of it as local color. Local meaning: an odd intersection of high school back alley / retirement home / low income housing / Ross Dress 4 Less / LA Fitness / Joann's / cineplex. And color meaning: red as in roses (a la Avenue of the same), white as my knuckles, and blue as in collar and occasionally language. So, but. It has a self-serve postal machine that's open late, which is awesome. It has those flat-rate boxes and envelopes that make life a million times easier, and can provide a tracking number, and are still way cheaper than UPS or FedEx. It's fairly spacious, so you're not breathing down anyone's neck if you find yourself waiting, and you're never hunting for parking. I like it. Even though sometimes I sorta fear for my safety. But that just makes it more exciting. Kinda? Anyway. It's a decent post office. It takes your money and whatever it is you want to mail, and delivers it across the country, or just down the street. Today, I mailed my hair to a lady in Georgia. You can't do that online! It's a pretty nifty system, that USPS, and this particular spot is a fairly easy portal into the post. I reeeeeally want to call it the whole package, but Lents, man... it's pretty outside the box. read more

Horrible experience. I work from home. My boss asked me to mail something overnight to reach Tulsa by 2pm. I used Stamps.com to print Overnight Express postage. Then, I had to go across town in order to mail it, because my local PO doesn't do overnight. I stood in line, got a receipt by the time required for drop off. It is now 6:12PM Tulsa time and it hasn't been delivered. I have tried to call the 1-800 number AND the local Lents PO number, with no luck. No one will answer the phone. Bad, bad service. read more

My boyfriend and I opened a PO Box here online and we had to go in and show ID and proof of residency and the form clearly said car registration could be used but MICHELLE proceeded to tell us we were wrong and argue with us rudely. The Asian lady is always rude and loud!!! Once they lost an order a client ordered, then she tells me it might be that my labels aren't sticking. She then she proceeds to pull it off from the envelop then she tried to charge me for tape to reattach the label smh. After reminding her that she's the one who loosened the adhesive she places tape over it. Wow. Just spoke a "customer service" rep who chastised us for moving our mailbox to next to our door after mail has been repeatedly stolen out of our box next to the street. They stopped delivering our mail and didn't leave a notice. I called to discuss options, and the employee on the other end proceeded to tell me how inconsiderate I was and how hard the USPS employees work. I realize being a mail carrier isn't an easy job, but let's talk about solutions in a productive way and avoid telling mail customers how terrible they are for making the honest mistake of moving the box without submitting an application (which we didn't know was a thing). read more
