If you've seen the Soup Nazi episode of Seinfeld, this is the postal version. This place is a little funky and slightly out of the way, but it gets the job done if you have no other choice but to pick up a package that can't be delivered to you for any reason. Actual closing time is 4PM as of June 2022. There's a tiny waiting room next to the parking lot where you must push a doorbell-style button (firmly) to call attention to yourself. When someone in the warehouse gets a chance to help you, just make sure you have your signed pickup slip and ID ready for them. They'll retrieve your package and bring it to you as soon as they can. (If your transaction involves money, you'll need cash or a check as they do NOT have card machines here.) Bear in mind this is chiefly a non-retail facility where human beings are very busy hauling and sorting tons of mail in a windowless warehouse, so don't expect special happy-go-lucky treatment when it's your turn for service(!). We put our mail on hold before we left for a two-week trip last year. When we returned and stopped by our local post office to pick it up, they waved their hands and said they couldn't find it. You read right: They couldn't find it. We receive packages regularly at our apartment complex. Everyone who lives here does. And I expected an important package today, waiting all morning for it to arrive, checking and re-checking the USPS website for updates. Finally, the website said: "No Access to Delivery Location." You read right again: The USPS suddenly can't gain access to a building they normally access six days a week. Looking out my window, I didn't see any telephone poles, abandoned semi-trucks, or boulders blocking the entrance to our lobby. So I tried the lobby door. Fine. Nothing wrong there. Then I called the carrier annex closest to me--the same people who lost our mail last year. The call ended after two rings. I called them back. It hung up again. I tried three more times. Same. Same. Same. Then I called the Postal Service and sat on hold for over an hour before I finally hung up in disgust, listening to their on-hold music and looped advertisements for getting my packages to me fast, secure, and on time. But that's precisely why I'm calling them: my package is in limbo somewhere, all because they suddenly can't put a key in a lock and open a door. And this is where our tax money goes. read more

Confusing entryway, especially when the door to the back is propped open and the "authorized personnel only" sign is out of sight. Female employee working was rude, slow and inefficient, the line building up and no efforts to assist or give instructions and guidance. She pried for personal information outside of name and address for which we had a package to pick up. I waited over 30 minutes for my package; another woman was already (and still) waiting when I left, along with four others who were in line behind me. Update 10/9/19 I have called 17 times. I stay on the phone forever just for the line to go dead and not speak to anyone. I called other office and the same thing. I called the post master line and was told the hold time was 20-37 minutes. The carrier left multiple banks of our mailboxes unlocked and wide open with tons of mail and packages. This carrier annex never answers the phone. In the past 20 years that I have been dealing with them, they only answered the phone twice. What happens when you call is a recorded voice says they are transferring you to an operator. You hear ringing for a minute, then a click and more ringing, then a fast busy signal and it disconnects. If you have an issue you need help with good luck. I stopped having my mail held when I go on vacation because it's such a nightmare to pick it up there. Long waits in a tiny little room, and rude employees. I have reported them to the Post Office customer service line several times but they have not done a thing to improve the customer service at this carrier annex. read more

I absolutely had the worst time here trying to pick up an international express package that was obviously here. The person who normally gets the packages came in late and couldn't deliver on time. I get notifications on my phone when my package is ready to be picked up. I came here after work and gave "T" my ID, tracking number, and address. She denied looking for my stuff and didn't even make the slightest attempt to go to the back of the office to look for my packages. When I gave her the info she looked at my paper and gave me attitude saying that its so much information and she made it look like she was fanning her self with the paper. I was very annoyed and thought that was rude of her. She kept arguing with me that the package is in Queen Anne because my address was an Amazon building with the zip code (98109). However, the package was placed in this office (98107) which the tracking number specified. Again, she didn't bother to check. She basically yelled at me for putting my foot near the door. I kept my foot there because I thought the door was going to slam her back. Seriously she is all sorts of trouble and I have never been so distraught to pick up a package at USPS. She even yelled at me telling me I was too close to her to talk to her face to face. I actually gave enough space to talk to her. She kept arguing to the point where she walked me to the parking lot and lectured me about packages. (Like I really don't know? Seriously?) I know the package its not in Queen Anne because I talked to the Supervisor at this location prior visiting the post office. He said my packages are here, in this Ballard location. When I told her that she said whats his name? I didn't remember the person's name on the phone, but I believe it was Ned. This lady gave me a very condescending remark and said it would be REALLY helpful If I asked who I was talking to on the phone. Sometimes people forget to ask, and I know I was at fault for not asking or remember the person's name. But I don't think I need to be put down because of this. I am a customer who needs assistance, not insults. I'm not sure what was wrong with her or if she had a bad day, but I didn't deserve this treatment. I know other USPS locations would still help me with just only a tracking number, and a pink slip was not required. I went to the Queen Anne post office, and I told them everything that happened. And they said that "T" should have looked for my packages regardless because making a trip to Queen Anne would be a hassle to visit. They were kind enough to assist me and they couldn't find the package. They confirmed it was in this Ballard location. I was super furious because I ended up wasting almost $40 in transportation fees using an Uber. I literally cried at the counter at Queen Anne because it shouldn't be this difficult to pick something up. ============== The next day I went by and it got worse. I brought my boyfriend with me to show him that "T" was very difficult to talk to. Once again, she denied me of a service after I said that her supervisor confirmed that the package is here. He wasn't in the office until 2hrs later. It's around 9am, and she told me to come back in 2 hours when here. My package is here I believe you can let me sign for it and I can go home and not bother you anymore. Why should I wait 2 hours? She literally ignored our request and threatened my boyfriend that she would call the police. My boyfriend was accused for slapping her on the wrist and pushing her. SHE'S LITERALLY BEHIND A DOOR. My boyfriend only held the door, and he would never EVER lay a hand on someone. We're not the kind of people who would cause trouble or make a scene. She literally lied to get out of a bad situation and she pretended to call the police to threaten us. I don't know why she would escalate to this level. We also had a witness to see this and he also thought it was absurd. Eventually a nice employee named Sakura came by to assist us with the package. I really appreciate her alleviating the stress and the situation. She told me that the package was WILL CALL and that it is fine to pick up. It's assumed that the previous person was not well-informed about these types of cases. However, she made no attempt at all to help or even check my tracking number. I felt that she didn't want to check because maybe it takes forever to look for the package or she was possibly being lazy. No one should ever have to deal with this kind of level of disrespect or disservice. I am sorry for anyone who has ever had difficulty with this particular person. Every other employee I have encountered here was very nice. I called the office again to thank the supervisor to confirm the packages, but he told me that "T" explained to him that my boyfriend slapped her. I'm sure she said that as a cover up for her actions. I hope disciplinary action is done for this employee misconduct. I am taking this to customer service. read more

First, to clarify for you dear readers -- this is NOT a standard retail Post Office. It is an Annex, basically the local mail sorting center, not designed for retail customers. Why we are forced to go here: Some years back, the USPS decided that packages and vacation-hold mail would be held here for pickup, instead of at the "normal" Ballard Post Office ( 5706 17th Ave NW, Seattle) where they had always been held. Thus, they designated in the Annex a tiny, closet-sized room with some scrap writing paper and pens on a small table as the mail pickup location. Old official USPS posters on the walls spell out rules and regulations in case you forgot your smartphone. How it works: There's a door from the outside for non-employees to enter and leave, and a locked door with buzzer to the bowels of the building. You go in, write your name and address on a scrap of paper and press the buzzer. If you're pretty lucky, someone will appear within 5 or 10 minutes, collect your scrap paper, disappear again for another 5 or 10 minutes, and return with your held mail or package or whatever. My take: I don't usually have held mail or packages (I use a UPS Store mailbox for that sort of stuff), but when I have to use it once or twice a year, it works OK, as long as I remember to be veeeeerrrrrrryyyyy patient and not bring any hand weapons along. If I could give this zero stars I would. I went there to pick up a package this morning that had my medical supplies in it that was under my name. I am currently house sitting for the family I nanny for and the woman I talked to told me I could not pick it up even though it was in my name. I told her it was medical supplies and she was rude, rolled her eyes and said she needed to go talk to a supervisor. Ten minutes later an older man came and got in my face with no mask on. I was wearing a mask as I'm immune compromised. I had already started recording because I was scared. The original lady then came out too and said I'm over this straight to me. I told the elder gentlemen I needed the package, it was in my name, I have my ID and it contains medical supplies. LITERALLY INSULIN NEEDLES! Zero stars if I could. Packages are always late or lost. No one answers phone , I think the just have it disabled because it's never worked. They scan packages as delivered when they haven't physically left the package so you think you item was stolen. It's a total shit show here and no one cares. read more

This is the most vile, useless, rude excuse for a post office I've ever seen - and THAT is saying a LOT. You have to rings a damn bell to get someone to come to the door. You can see people inside ignoring the bell. Then a rude surly woman comes and acts like you're ruining her damn day to pick up a postage due forward, then tells you it's cash only. WTF!?!?!?!? Since WHEN does a post office not take debit / credit cards!? WHO carries cash around. And why the bell can't they inform you on the stupid slip you get that this hell hole of a post office only takes cash so you don't waste your time driving 25 minutes to get there? Never mind that there are TWO post offices closer to where I live that DO take normal forms of payment. Sometimes I have to wonder what is going on at the Ballard Postal Annex... Time after time, I request Hold Mail service when I'm going out of town, only to come home to find gobs of mail stuffed into and sticking out of my mail slot, like a giant sign that says "HEY ROBBERS, NOBODY IS HOME!" This happens about 50% of the time, no joke, and I just came home to it yet again. I've complained online before and once received a reply that it would be better if I stop by the post office or annex to fill out a Hold Mail card. For those of you keeping score at home: that's the U.S. Postal Service suggesting a 20th Century fix to a problem in 2015. The same USPS whose revenue is sinking like an anvil because it hasn't kept pace with the changing times. Isn't it ironic? It's like a black fly in your Chardonnay... Some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced in Seattle. Since USPS refuse to make even a single redeliver attempt for your packages, you are forced to come to this facility to pick up your items. The staff who run this strange backroom make it abundantly clear you are wasting their time by being rude, unhelpful and generally miserable to anyone who dares ring their bell for service. It's a bummer this is my new post office. They didn't pick up the phone the 3 days I tried. The "lobby" is a small room where you can knock on a door to ask for help. After they come to the door, you let them know what you need, then you wait in the "lobby" for them to hopefully come out with your mail/package. In my case, it turns out I had a $11 charge for a package that was forwarded without my consent. It was forwarded to my new address less than a mile away because I had a mail forward in place. Be careful because they might forward packages and charge you a fee. They didn't attempt delivery (as we were still living at the old address), ring the doorbell, or give me an option to pick it up from the original office. Instead, they forwarded the package 1 mile to this office, where I had to pay $11 to come and pick it up. No wonder the USPS is going out of business. It turned out to be problematic for us since we had friends and family who sent packages to the old address during the holidays. read more

REALLY??!! I am trying to run a business and 1 out of 15 mail items I put in my outbox w/ just a stamp NEVER GETS RECEIVED!!! Totally unacceptable that I need to pay $35 for a stop payment fee to my bank, $7 to resend w/ a tracking number, and then pay all penalties on top of that to my vender, not to mention my CREDIBILITY of "the check is in the mail." The incompetence of this place never ceases to amaze. Every single time I've had a parcel sent from overseas the package will get from the UK/Germany/Japan to this office in 3-5 days and it then takes another 3-5 days to go the last 1.2 miles to my home! They also claim to have attempted delivery and not gotten a response even though I was home and can prove it. I've yet to have a parcel delivery handled by them in a competent manner. I really wish overseas shippers would stop using them. read more

If I could give the customer service here a zero I would. My package wasn't delivered and I was left a notice so I called the Ballard annex to speak with someone. I explained I received the notice and asked why it wasn't delivered, to which the already short with me man on the phone told me I had to sign. I asked if an apartment manager could sign or if I needed to be present to which he replied "how am I supposed to know this? I don't have time for this". Clearly, I was mistaken for thinking since he worked with delivering packages, he'd know something about delivering packages. I'm still unsure if they'll try to redeliver. read more

A Postal Carrier recently told me that this Postal Annex ranks #5 of the worst in the nation. I think that might be generous. I want to support the Postal Service. I do. I like the idea of the Postal Service. I love our carrier. I know this can be a rough, stress-filled, physically demanding job. And, I don't like the idea of privatizing the Post Office. But Geez. I feel like such a sucker. I keep falling for the "Guaranteed Overnight" promise of Express Mail. I swear, 75% of the time IT NEVER HAPPENS. Once again, with specific instructions to a client, here I am waiting for an Overnight (by 10:30am) Delivery that may or may not come today. It certainly won't come by 10:30am, since it is already after Noon. Checking online, it is apparently at the Annex, and has been there since early this morning. And, I think to myself, "I could call them." But then I remember that I can rarely reach anyone, and when I do, I am told that I need to talk to a Manager. And if I ask for a Manager, no one is available. And, invariably, the person I get on the phone is seemingly having a worse day than I am. So, then I consider going to the Annex, which is not far away - but I am sane enough to remember what an unpleasant experience the Annex is. To be clear, this review might imply that this happens this way all the time in the 98107 area ... I should be clear that this has only happened, to this level of frustration, a half a dozen times, or so, in the last couple years. But then again, I use UPS or FedEx whenever I can. read more

A couple weeks ago I received a slip for a registered piece of mail that required a signature. At first I tried to sign for it online but the tracking number was written by hand so illegibly that I gave up after 10 decipher attempts. Instead I signed the slip and left it for the carrier but still have not received my package. I've called the annex dozens of times at the number listed here but the phone is never answered, nor is there an option to leave a voicemail. At this point my package is still missing and I have filed a complaint with USPS Consumer Affairs (who, by the way, picked up after two rings). Consumer Affairs has an internal number they can use to get in touch with the Annex (the one listed above is the external number) and promised to be diligent in helping track down my lost package. I encourage anyone else having trouble to reach out to our local USPS Consumer Affairs office at 253.214.1800. This is not the first time I have had issues with missing packages at the Ballard Postal Annex, but it is definitely the longest I've had to wait for a resolution or eventual delivery. read more

But somehow out of receiving packages from Amazon for 4 years without a glitch, the carrier now thinks it is not secure and does not want to contact me on delivery by ringing door bell to phone when home??? Talked with Supervisor, and all he did was attempt to obfuscate the information and I had to redirect him back several times to the unnecessary issue at hand. Problem still unresolved, and not clear if I have to deal with a carrier who is displacing his/her personal issues, plus is my Amazon convenience over now??? The combination of UPS and USPS for deliveries was dreamed up in hell--at least the Ballard version. 3 separate deliveries under this (non)-system have arrived 2 or 3 days later than promised on websites. This is unsatisfactory and infuriating. One postman told me "the package wasn't put into my bag this morning so I couldn't deliver it." This after the UPS website showed that the package had been handed to post office 3 days prior. This is no way to run a business... read more

Zero stars also if I could. Warning: Do not use them to hold your mail while you are out of town! I just got back from an extended trip and had a hold mail request in with them with the box checked indicating that I would pick up the mail at the Annex when I returned (as I always do) since mail theft is rampant in Seattle. So what do they do? They take it upon themselves to leave a month's worth of mail on my front porch the day before I am due to arrive back in town and, of course, it was promptly stolen that same day. So I lost tax statements, bank and brokerage account statements, prescriptions and who knows what else? So now, due to their total incompetence, I could be a candidate for ID theft and have had to take defensive action by putting in fraud alerts with all of the credit agencies and will have to closely monitor my bank accounts. Why can't they just follow the customer instructions? This is the kind of negligence I would expect in a third world country. So it will be a P.O. Box only for me in the future which should be more secure. read more

These idiots marked my package as delivered but did not deliver it. I called customer service and she said they took it back to this Post Office (........while still leaving the tracking info status as "delivered"). I complained that I didnt get a notice on my door saying they were taking it back and that they never tried to re-deliver my package, the nasty bitter old woman said "because no one requested it." No one knew you took it back! Common sense says the Post Office either delivered it to the wrong address or someone stole it. I only knew where it was because I called 1800USPS. And when I first called and told the local worker that they had my package but marked tracking as delivered, she tried telling me right off the bat, without looking anything up or doing any research, that what I said was not true and that they dont have my package. Yet when I gave them my tracking info she said they do have my package. No apology. Just complete idiots. read more
