I wrote this review before going into the store in person based on the phone calls. Rest of review is post-Terry. Terry is the man. --- HORRIFICALLY bad. They don't answer their phones during business hours, they don't have a way to leave voice mail, and they like to return your packages without notice and with a useless error code ("wrong address"). Horrible, bad, awful, terrible, useless. I'm so furious right now I'd vote for whichever candidate offers to defund USPS. --- BUT, after going inside I met Terry (90% sure that was his name). And Terry gets 5 stars all to himself. USPS was returning my packages left and right and every person at USPS - this store and the main office - told me 500 different reasons for why it was happening, but no one had a clue how to fix it and most said it couldn't be done and I was just screwed. Terry the savior gave me a form the size of half-sheet of paper, told me to write down 3 things (name, address, and signature) and he'd fix it all. AND HE CAME THROUGH. Packages arrive, mail arrives, all is well. Terry gets 5 stars, the phone services and rest of the office gets -1, so it averages out to 2 stars. They should give Terry control of the office and fire anyone who answers the phone. Or maybe I'll hire him. read more

This post office is an Absolute joke. Literally 2 out of three package deliveries are usually delayed with explanation that they were unable to access the property (our mailbox is in the curb and front door is 20' from street), or they deliver to the wrong address. Today's missed delivery explanation was "USPS ran into an issue when attempting delivery..."There was No issue. I was in front yard all afternoon and they never came by. Inexcusable!!! In addition, when trying to call and get information, their phones rings continuously continuously but never answer. read more

Customer service is horrible. Can never get anyone on the phone. I don't know how many times I've tried. Just absolutely frustrating.

I've lived in new apartments for ten months now. Our mailboxes have been here since then. I still have to go to the freaken post office to get my mail. Plus Amazon and USPS still does not recognize our address or maps. I have been told every month next month we will get mail here. Also that they need master locks on the back and the guy who does that is in Placerville. So what's the hold up ? This is bullshit, and it's 10 months already, wtf? read more

Definitely do not recommend AL Tahoe USPS. Staff is very kind but usps is so understaffed and also inefficient processing packages and deliveries. There is a 2-4 day lag on packages (It is holiday season) delivered by amazon due to what usps calls processing in back mailroom. Amazon says it's delivered (But not able to get bc of time processing in back mailroom room). Please call Robert at Mountain Postal on emerald bay road in S Lake Tahoe. Better and more efficient logging and receiving packages. read more

These folks work hard and have a nice big location. There is sometimes a line because it's the biggest post office in town, so try and come on off hours. The employees do a great job of handling large workloads. Nice work. read more

Went in today at noon to inquire about a package that was on hold AT THE FACILITY and not delivered. The old woman with box dye red hair and witch glasses immediately assumed we were tourists and threw a form in our face gesturing to a line and refusing to look for our package before it is sent back today. After losing our home in a fire and the community being so supportive this was disgusting behavior and was honestly lazy. read more

Absolutely appreciate this Post Office, Cyrus, the other Gentleman who are usually there and the ladies have always been incredible helpful. For those that just like to complain; evidently, y'all are not aware what it's like to deal with the general public. As for myself, my Grandmother taught me how to treat others. As well I've worked in a bank and for litigation attorneys since 2006. Essentially, I know what quality customer service is. I took my package there 4 different times and every time somehow the Shipping just kept changing and they kept saying that I had to do unnecessary things that In places I've sent mail before I've never had to do they made me constantly fix or do something else if it wasn't one thing or another they did horrible and I had to drive all the way down to Carson city because these dumb wits cant figure out there own job this place needs new workers because they are dumber than nails sorry to say but it's true they can't do a job that they signed up for. read more

Very disappointing experience. I came to the post office to register our address in SLT end of December (after Christmas craziness), because our Amazon or other online orders would not be delivered to SLT house. The staff was there and people were nice. They told me that I just need to register our new SLT address. Done. Completed the form and gave it back to post mail representative at the spot. Two month later, I started to order books via Amazon and now we get undelivered mail situation again. Did they ever processed my form? read more

Terribly understaffed, employees are overworked, and was told they don't deliver mail to apartments, only houses. This is a small town, I'm from an area where hard working mail-men/women deliver to tens of thousands of people. Weather conditions, I understand. But to outright refuse to deliver mail even in good conditions, that's hilarious! read more

Worst customer service of any post office I've been to. They only open 12 noon to 2pm on Saturday. Doesn't make any sense. Why only 2 hours in middle of day. Went there to change address via their forms. Would not open even though I got there @11.45am on Saturday. Every other post office in America opens 8am to 1pm or 2pm. This is the only office that only opens 2hours on a Saturday the one day people who work can get there. What else is new it's our incompetent Government tax dollars at non-work.! read more

Strike 2 (since I started counting). That's 2 strikes in my last 3 visits. Today I went in to send out 4 letters and get a set of stamps. I also wanted to check to see if there was a package waiting for me because the tracking info said it wasn't able to be delivered to my house. The tracking info was updated on Saturday (today is Monday), so it basically happened yesterday in Post Office days. Anyways, I explained the situation to the grumpy lady (a different one with medium length hair) and she said, "well when did that happen? Packages get returned everyday." I told her it happened on Saturday. Her response? "Oh, it's probably gone by now then." Did she even bother to check? Heck no. Imagine how annoyed I was. What kind of stupid laziness is that!? She couldn't even walk ten steps away to check if my package was there? I'm pretty damn sure it was still there. Especially since the attempted delivery was at 5pm on Saturday and it was only 1pm when I went in today, which is before their scheduled pickup time. Very annoyed with this place...One more strike and I'm taking my business elsewhere. Even if that means a longer drive. Update (3 hours later): Good thing I don't trust the cash rep people here. When I got home after the post office, I took the liberty of calling them to see if my package was there. Luckily a lady that didn't sound like the one that helped me answered the phone. They are a group of liars. I bought near 50 parts for my motorcycle. The half UPS had, delivered with NO issue! USPS however couldn't find the SOUTH LAKE TAHOE AIRPORT! So I have had to pick up EVERY SINGLE PACKAGE! They say they delivered 1 piece THE DAY EVERYONE EVACUATED and the AIRPORT was CLOSED. Now they find it hard to comprehend that. I waited until we got back from being evacuated and more packages from USPS are undeliverable! When I get there the packages are there! They scanned it in the back and never tried to deliver it! Came from their mouth they did this. Then told me I can get a refund! Listen you dumb humans...when you say you delivered something and you didn't...you can't get a return you smoothed brain fool! They gave me an attitude when I questioned them. They are thieves and liars. read more

You'd think that since so many branches of the Postal Service are shutting down, postal employees would be doing whatever it takes to avoid the chopping block. Apparently, this branch doesn't know or doesn't care. I'm going with the latter. I miss the one that used to be behind the DMV - at least the employees at that one were efficient (and sometimes friendly). I went in to mail ten separate packages, all books. All were wrapped in used magazines, clearly labeled with addresses and return address labels. I got up to the counter with my arm load of packages and the first thing the guy at the counter says is, "That wrapping doesn't meet standards. You'll have to repackage those." No hello, no how are you, no nothin. AND? I've been wrapping my packages in old magazines / newspapers since Moses was a baby. So I tell the guy that no, the wrapping is fine, I've been mailing packages like this forever. He tells me to go grab some of the post office's packaging (that you have to buy, mind you) or they can't mail it. Very calmly (can I get a cookie for not smacking this jerk with my stack o' books?) I told him he could either mail my packages or I could come back later when he wasn't working. Finally, Mr. Grump admits that the packaging is okay. Then I tell him they're all media mail, since they're all books. His response, in a very condescending manner? "Well you're going to have to send them first class since there are receipts in them. The only thing you can ship via MEDIA mail is MEDIA." Really? Thanks. Didn't know I could only ship media via media mail. I can't believe I was so stupid. Oh WAIT. No receipts in there Bucko. No notes or letters or cards or pictures of my cat or any of the other items you grilled me about. Just books. AUUUGH. Really, the whole conversation was him trying to bully me into spending more money by buying the post office's shipping material or shipping them First Class instead of media mail (which, granted, would have only been slightly more expensive. It's the principal of the thing and I'm poor!) The sad thing is, everyone else here has been pretty easy to deal with. This guy? Ruined it. I've had better experiences at high volume post offices in downtown San Francisco. Sad. read more

I normally avoid this particular office like the H1N1 virus, but sometimes I'm forced to use this location. Several of the employees here are the most unfriendly, unhappy clerks I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with at a post office. Note that I'm actually a fan of the U.S. Postal Service on many counts. (Heck, how can you dislike something that was started by Ben Franklin!?) And I like the fact that the USPS serves thousands and thousands of tiny towns throughout the U.S. - often with small, quaint branches staffed by local friendly clerks and carriers. Two of the clerks at the Al Tahoe branch are caricatures of slow moving, unsmiling government employees who hate their jobs and you; yet they don't quite go far enough off the deep end to be fired. The middle-aged woman with shortish hair and glasses is, however, usually nice, and I play cranky-clerk roulette in my head as I wait in line - hoping for her window to be available when my turn comes up. read more

Friendly, efficient, knowledgeable, no line whatsoever... on a Saturday. What more could you want?

Regular mail delivery stopped 1 week shy of four months ago, with not notice. So, I'd go wait in line to pick up my mail at the branch. Then they began loading the mail onto a truck every day, would never attempt delivery (I watched them drive on by, because of snow, but FedEx and UPS and food deliveries never once had an issue) and mail and packages were just disappearing. They said it was because I didn't put a hold on delivery. So I did. And a couple of weeks after that...they delivered three random pieces of mail. Because I'd stopped delivery, I foolishly stopped checking my box, so several pieces of mail just sat out there. I get it: harsh weather, but I've lived here 20 years and have seen worse. They lost staff. Yes. But if you can't deliver it, and you can't hold it, and you report "item delivered" on things that never even had an attempted delivery...what do customers do? The people sending bills into a black void don't care about snow or personnel challenges. At this point, closing the USPS completely might be better, because people sending bills would have to find a reliable way to send them and not have the crazy idea that mail will reach its destination. read more

I'm really happy that I was able to overnight a 24 hr inspection notice to my tenant in Sacramento. I'm here to ski a few days and trying to take care of some business and this place delivers. The line was about 10 deep coming in, but they had about 4 people working the counter and was up there by the time I finished filling out the overnight paperwork. The guy who helped me even stirred me to a difft envelope that was $14.10 instead of $19.95! This most importantly is that if I used the Post office at the Y or at Meyers, they wouldn't be able to overnight it to Sacramento!!!! read more

Live in the Bijou area behind Safeway and have had my mail sent to many of my neighbors. Have had packages with one-day shipping paid, not delivered at all. They stated my driveway and door entrance was undeliverable, untrue. They also stated they made an attempt and yet I have cameras proving otherwise. Our mail person is just dumb for a lack of a better word. I have found one mail person parked in our driveway for no good reason, just to deliver regular mail, to our door...? We have had another mail person put our mail in the box and walk small packages up? So strange. They obviously don't pay well enough to hire anyone with intelligence. read more

We haven't received any mail in our mail box for over a month, Packages that were suppose to be sent to our house, reach the post office here in South Lake Tahoe but instead of delivering them they return them to sender saying that the address can't be found, though this house has been here for 60 years on Sierra blvd. We also have a P.O. Box, for the last 3 weeks we get txt messages saying we have mail, we check every other day and there is never any mail in our PO Box. Talking to the folks at the counter has produced no results other than to deepen our frustration. The postmaster is unreachable. read more

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! I have not received any regular mail in weeks, and whenever I order something through Amazon that is routed via USPS, I get a note saying "Delivery unsuccessful - USPS wasn't able to enter your building to deliver your package." To be clear, I live in a house so no entry into a building is required. The postman is just too lazy, refusing to get out of his Jeep to put the package in front of my door.
