This post office is such a joke. They pick and choose their own hours, usually when 99% of people are working. If somebody takes time during work to get their mail, they are closed. They print out lists of new hours and post them, but they are never updated online. They would only open for a couple hours a day, if at all. I would come during business hours, and they would be closed or closing the gate while I walked in and turn me away. And yes, this was during the hours they recreated and printed out and posted in the actual store. There were times when I had to get important government documents by a deadline but couldn't. I had to file cases with USPS online more than once because they never gave me my mail. Due to the lack to basic stores in the area, obviously everyone shops online. The parcel lockers would fill up, and the PO boxes were too small. When they reach capacity, you have to pick up your mail at the counter during business hours. I had to file cases because even after waiting 40 minutes in line, they would only give me one package but not others. Sometimes I had packages sitting for almost a month. Sometimes I would wait in line, and the package ended up being small enough to fit in the PO box. read more

I have been using this post office for many decades. The people that used to work there were nothing less than awesome, no complaint's! Now those people have retired and the new set of people there are horrible. They make no effort to go the extra mile ever. Steven the postmaster does do what he can but he's so spread out over different locations. It's hard for him a lot of the times to be on top of what's going on with the employees. The one chick that's there she's a Hispanic. I don't know if she's from Mexico or where she's from but she is a nasty snarky individual where I have been in the post office and she's yelling at customers very belligerently no respect for anybody. Then on top of that, I get my medication through the mail and it says medical supplies and instead of putting my medical supplies in a locker so I could pick it up at my convenience. They put a slip in my PO Box which means they have to be open for me to stand in line to bring my slip to the counter so they can go get my medical supplies. This makes no sense to me. I was told they take the bigger boxes first and then the smaller items later well, what about somebody that needs their medication? What I take I need to have to stay alive however now UPS goes through the post office for delivery instead of directly to me unless I want to spend like $40 more as a senior citizen on Social Security and Medicare. I don't have the funds to pay that extra fee every single month and the post office is so unwilling to make the effort to assist the customer for things like this... in fact, I went to the post office one day to get a stamped envelope. They didn't even have any envelopes. I don't know if they had stamps, but they didn't have envelopes. How many times have you gone to the post office and they don't have envelopes paid envelopes? And the post office wonders why they going under the whole thing is ass backwards, and the customer is not there to be served by the government postal agency instead there there for the postal employees to be abusive to the customer not to mention the fact that they've lost my mail so many times mail with checks in mail with Postal Service money orders, mail with bank drafts then they tell me you need to send it parcel post and you can track it so I spend the extra money $20 extra to send something that way and I can't track it in real time. I don't know where the hell it is. This Postal Service is dumb. You can't depend on them for anything you never know if your male's gonna get there from the same location to the same location they've lost my mail that way also delivering it to the post office to the post office where the mail is going and it still doesn't get there and I understand it goes to Reno Nevada then it comes back but still that's no excuse. It really sucks it's a horrible horrible system and it is completely unreliable. read more

A very small Amazon package was to be delivered to my condo in the Olympic Valley within one to two days, according to Amazon. Four days later I received a notification that it was delivered to the Tahoe City post office. I called USPS to find out how to get my package since I live in the Bay Area. Several days later I received a nice voicemail from someone at the Tahoe City office letting me know they have my package (yes, I already knew that) and it's in my PO Box. I don't have a PO Box. Can anyone within the system please let me know how to get this package delivered where it was supposed to? I've been calling all day, but no one is picking up. read more

Avoid if at all possible. Living in Tahoe City means we're forced into relying on a PO Box. Packages are regularly mis-delivered, lines are inexplicably always long, and the lag time between when mail arrives at the post office and when we can access it is off the charts. read more

I sent a package to someone in Tahoe City, cost about $10 in a standard USPS envelope. Jan 19th it arrived at Tahoe City Post Office. 15 minutes later (9:25am) it's "out for delivery". 10+ hours later at 8:02pm, it's suddenly "available for pickup". No attempt to make a delivery was made, they probably never loaded it onto a truck. Then you can "re-schedule a delivery" - so I enter the identical address to that used on the package - "sorry, that address not available for re-deliveries". Why not!? It's just down the road in Tahoe City. The recipient finds it hard to get to the post office during office hours, and no doubt stand in a half-mile line. So in a few days, unless they make it there, this most useless of post offices will return the package to me. All for the low-low price of $10. Worst Post Office in California? I have to claim this as the very best post office in the whole world that I've ever experienced because these people working here really know their stuff! Getting mail in Tahoe is always a tricky adventure; especially after you change your address a few times. The post office is your hero during these times. Even when mail comes in to me to my PO Box from over two years ago the staff still catches it and puts it in the correct box. I don't know how they keep track of everyone who lives in Tahoe city but somehow they're pulling it off! Steve is always there with a smile and Kristen is always very helpful!
