Let me just put it this way... every time I have to call USAA I get the urge to jump off a cliff!!! Mail doesn't work any better. I also sent them paperwork five (maybe six) times regarding, first my POA for my parents, and then as the executor of my parents' estate. Not once did they call me or mail me regarding the situation. They just ignored it, and yes, I confirmed through multiple long and difficult phone calls that I had the address correct. They also acted like they didn't know me, and had made no records of multiple (many multiple) calls from me regarding my parents insurance. It was utterly ridiculous. I had to upload my personal information, copies of my id, social security, etc. to deal with my parents insurance, not their financial accounts..... just insurance I needed to pay for them and now trying to cancel (since there is no more car or home). Please, please do not think USAA is a good deal. I stayed with them forever, and every year my rates kept going up without ever having a claim. I called around and ALL other insurance companies gave better coverage at almost 1/3 the price. Home insurance was almost half off for MORE coverage. I have enjoyed saving almost $350 a month total in home and auto premiums since switching. Hopefully you don't let them take advantage of you like I did for a decade read more

While I haven't had many claims at all, I recently had a relatively substantial claim after an auto accident. My adjuster, Weston, kept me apprised of the claim review progress, and facilitated a seamless resolution. This helped create a low-stress situation, which could have been so messy and disruptive. USAA had a standing partnership with a competent and reputable local collision center, which made the claim resolution even more smooth. Been a USAA member for decades, never was late on a payment. Last October our shower had a leak and it's the only place we can shower. It's now April and we haven't made any progress because they won't make approvals and the manager won't return our calls. They also won't pay loss of use even though we are covered so this has pretty much financially ruined us. Our claim number is 014177333-803, maybe someone sees this and can help us. Everytime I call them, I get something different. I call and they tell me my mother needs to become a member under my deceased stepfather. She gets a member number so I call with her by my side, I get a member number but supposedly the form I'm supposed to docu sign isn't working and the upload of my DL isn't working either. Wait a couple days, upload my DL, I get a call back and the guy I spoke with says I need to get my stepfather's DD214, have my mother write a note saying to add me. That didn't sound right so I call back again the next day and now the lady I spoke with says since my stepfather was not a member before he died, I'm not eligible at all. You issued a homeowner's policy effective August 22 for a year. Four days later, I got an email notifying me I had a new document in my USAA app. That document indicated my policy was being cancelled as underwriting determined I am in a high fire risk area. I had damage to my roof from the hail storm they denied most of it. They said oh all we saw is this little 200 ft.² area up there footprint of our house has got as well over 2000 ft.² and we only had hail damage on what a little area nonsense that was earlier this well last year September timeframe now I find that there was apparently a little bit of water damage to my house and they're going to deny coverage on that so I'm canceling USAA we've been with them forever ever we started with them in the 90s maybe the 80s and I'm just gonna get rid of them everything I'm gonna change my banking. Sunday, 2/16/25. WORST customer service EVER! Towing service is terrible. A couple months ago I needed a tow truck. Couldn't get through to them on the phone so I just called a tow truck on my own and paid for it myself. I thought USAA is supposed to be a reputable company for veterans. They aren't. They can't even fill out a Release for Property Damage correct. USAA doesn't care at all and it shows. I would give USSA Insurance no stars if possible. Over the last 4 years every time I have called their customer service it as been a complete nightmare. Today because my bank switched from MC to Visa debit cards, I had to call USSA and switch the card on file for AutoPay. I was told that it was "Unacceptable" for me to do so. Back Story: I take care of my 91 year old mother who as severe dementia. I am her POA, MDPOA, Executor, and Representative. My military father passed away a few yours ago. I kept his USSA insurance, but had to reopen a new policy under my mother. I handle 100% of her finances and bills. I setup Autopay over a year ago and now that I am trying switch the cards before the old one declines, I am told by USSA I can not. Their choses were to have my mother pay, which she has means to, or I have to call in every month and make payments over the phone and deal with their awful customer service. I make Autopayments for all of my mothers other bills and not one company has told I can't pay with my debit card. So you see if they make it extremely difficult for someone to give them money, imagine if you need something from them! read more

I can never recommend USAA enough or praise them highly enough. Once or twice my husband has asked if we want to look into different (read cheaper) insurance policies but I won't hear of it (those other people are fly by the night groups anyway!) USAA has treated me extraordinarily kind, respectful and fairly each time I have filed a claim. Once in 2019, I was young and should have known more financially before using my veteran benefits to purchase a home. Within a couple of months, it was discovered that the whole pipe throughout the kitchen had collapsed. Honestly, that explained why the house was only $106,000... USAA nicely explained they only cover the house not things under the foundation such as these pipes. I was panicked just thinking of the price possibility. But my agent explained comprehensively that they would cover all damage, ingress to the pipe, food while we were out of the kitchen, and egress to the pipe. After spending maybe $1,200 in actual plumping repairs, USAA did exactly as they said: beautiful kitchen cabinets (we made the difference for an upgrade) with a new kitchen layout, lovely tiling, and peace of mind. I used them in 2021 for an auto claim which was truly my fault. They were effective and easy. I just filed another claim on my roof. I was biting my nails thinking about what they could fight me on... I live in tornado alley so it was inevitable that there would be normal wear and tear damage. Instead, the independent adjuster was solid, efficient, and fair. Their report helped me not be taken advantage of by my contractor actually!!! Thank you again to USAA. I didn't even meet the $2K deductible. When I was thinking USAA would wipe their hands while telling me to replace the roof on my own. Instead, they once again proved how they put a veterans pocket book and safety first. USAA cannot be spoken highly enough by me. Thank you for representing young, dumb veterans like myself! And then all the rest of you fine folks. Also side note, I have never felt patronized or taken advantage of by USAA for being a woman. The driving mistake was such a boneheaded move (nobody but me could hit a near stationary vehicle). But they listened honestly and without judgement. I really appreciate that. read more

Horrible communication! Have been waiting almost 3mos to move back into my master bedroom because of damage sustained in November's torrential rain/wind. USAA does not respond to messages sent via app nor does the property claims team return calls. I've had to facilitate work between the different contractors assigned to this job and USAA's remedy is an apology. USAA is not veteran friendly as they promote. I changed my renter's insurance because I moved and told them to apply the new address to all my usaa coverage. 7 months later I find out they did not do this, and I missed out on lower auto insurance. They said they can't refund the overpayment. My renter's insurance statement from 7 months ago shows the new address. Pathetic unorganized incompetence read more

First incident was with USAA auto insurance: USAA premium for car insurance was 33% more than Allstate and USAA insurance customer service is horrendous. Second incident was with USAA Fed. Savings Bank. USAA cashed foraged check and then would not reimburse me as they are required to do in accordance with commercial law. Luckily, I got reimbursed for the foraged check through my own efforts by obtaining restitution in a criminal case. However, my recovery was not because of anything USAA did. USAA only wanted to be part of problem and never complied with its legal duties. read more

I have been with USAA for approximately 15 years with nothing more than a windshield claim. I have multiple policies for the family. I recently submitted a claim for an accident where I was found to be not at fault by both insurance companies. It is now 6 months and I have still not been reimbursed for my claim. The other insurance company was waiting on the USAA team to contact them for more than two months. This has been a horrible experience where I have complained to managers, submitted written documentation of their errors, and nothing seems to work. This has made me re-think our insurance needs and I have obtained quotes which are more affordable from two other companies. This was a surprise to me as I would think the so called discounts I was receiving for being with USAA for so many years would mean their pricing would be better. This was my first automobile claim in 15 years! This has been one of the worst customer experiences I could imagine. They have continued to raise my rates and collect my payments through the years, however when I submit a relatively small claim I can't even get them to do their job and pick up a phone. My total loss claim has been one roadblock after another. I was told that my check would be overnighted last Friday. It did not arrive until 6 days later. I was told my rental was covered until 11/21 only to find out when I turned it in yesterday that I'm being charged over $700 because USAA didn't extend the contract as they promised. And now I have left multiple messages for my adjuster Alyianna and her manager Carl and neither will return my phone call to get this straightened out. Lousy company. Stay away from them. Somebody in that company reported me to the DMV for not having coverage, causing my plate to get suspended. I found this out just shortly before my registration was due renewal. now I have a fifty dollar fee added to my renewal in order to get my plate reinstated. I never had a lapse in coverage, and every USAA agent I spoke with was able to see this in my account. I was promised by Ladondra (USAA chat/help agent) that she was sending notification to the DMV that my coverage was good, to reinstate my tag without me having to pay a fee. I just learned today that she never did. It was supposedly just submitted today, 8 business days later, and thats because I called back to check on it. Oh, and if you have a claim, be prepared to mediate between USAA and the repair shop, because USAA will initially send a payout before the estimate is done, and then will sit on it until you intervene as a client. Between USAA and the lousy VA assistance veterans receive, theres no wonder we lose 22 a day. read more

I have been a member of USAA for over 50 years including auto and home insurance. I watched it change from Officers only to including enlisted, and then relatives. During this time, my experience is that service has degraded throughout these changes and continues to do so. A recent example of the very poor service from USAA is a recent claim when my car was hit in the parking lot while parked. I was told by State Farm and USAA almost immediately that it was the other party's fault. I received one call from the USAA adjuster who assured me that I would not have to pay the deductible when my car was repaired since it was the other party's fault. I emailed that Adjuster many times and never received a response about the deductible because the USAA repair shop showed that I had to pay it. Finally, when I picked up my repaired car I had to pay the deductible plus a $30 fee that they added. I have emailed the USAA adjuster several times about getting reimbursed but received no response.It has been several months since the accident and I have not been reimbursed for the deductible and probably will have to absorb the $30 additional fee I was charged. I emailed the CEO, and several weeks later received a phone call from an adjuster who had replaced my original adjuster because she never responded to my emails or phone calls. I received an apology but no explanation for the lack of response to any of my communications. I received confirmation that I should not have had to pay the $1000 deductible and she processed a request to get it paid. She called the shop and said they would reimburse me the $30 fee but that never happened. She promised to follow up with me to confirm it was refunded but I never heard from her again. A representative from the CEO's office called me and I explained all this. He said nothing further could be done and he considered the matter closed. He was not helpful or very nice to deal with. All this for a claim where I was not at fault. I can only imagine how I would have been treated if I had been at fault. USAA's customer service on this claim was horrible and illustrates why their ratings are so low. read more

Horrible roadside assistance!!! First, they wouldn't tow my vehicle to the dealership due to other mechanic shops closer to the location my vehicle broke down. I was given the run around about the ETA from 60 min and eventually responding 4 hours later. Contacting them on the second day to have my vehicle towed to the dealership from my home, again, given the run around and waited SIX hours for the tow truck!!!!! Unacceptable!!!!!! Updated review: while I initially had a very poor experience, they ended up following through on every thing and now I would recommend them. They lied to me several times then got frustrated Ilat me that I wasn't settling for what they wanted and became viciously rude !! USSA are basically scammers at this point. Ex 3: Here's another of my favorite examples. Bought brand new bike. It's financed. Put it on insurance and let them know the lender and all the information they told me I'm all set. Month later have mechanical issue from factor that messed up my engine, I call to place my claim only to find out they had place my bike on liability! A financed bike! When asked why I was told I was on full coverage they said that they don't offer full coverage for bikes in fact they don't offer any at all and have to go through sister company progressive for liability. USAA has affordable auto and renter's insurance, and a special rider to insure my computers and jewelry. I had to file claims twice. Once was for my car, the other was for my jewelry that got stolen by a bad house guest. It was much easier to file claims than I expected. The claims were both covered with the dollar amounts I expected. I have an account with the bank (USAA Federal Savings Bank) too. I'm not nearly as satisfied with the bank. USAA insurance (property and casualty) is what they are best at. read more
