It's now November 10th I called and I ask why are fraudulent charges still happening on my debit card from a company I already reported a month ago? SO THEN I SAID CANCEL THE CARD. Guess what? Yup they still are allowing the fraudulent charges. I've sent recorded calls, proof upon proof. So today the 26th I ask them WHY ARE THE STILL MAKING CHARGES AS OF THE 22nd. "We don't know" I CLOSED THE DANG DEBIT CARD HOW CAN TYEY CHARGE A CARD THAT DOESNT EXIST....... Any other bank and I mean ANYYYYY other bank would've immediately cancelled the card!!! USCCU has finally broken the straw that's made me realize I need to close my account for good. I disputed a transaction with a retailer (an airline) that admitted they did not render a service to me. Despite photo and email proof where the retailer's customer service agent clearly stated the service was not rendered, USCCU refused to allow a chargeback. I have accounts with Chase and Bank of America, two big banks people always say are terrible. But I've only had stellar customer service from either. This would've been a slam dunk, no doubt case for either of them. Meanwhile, USCCU has been a broken, sinking ship for years and I stayed on due to some strange loyalty being an alumnus, but it is only a credit union in name. I even tried to get a quote for them on a car I purchased last year... BOA beat them! Seriously guys, you've been warned. read more

I went to open a credit card account, which was quite straightforward but not very quick. There are documents to prepared and they asked me to do the application online. Everything seemed fine and ready when I left. However, a week later, it turned out that the staff forgot to process my application. So I had to go back again to ask for it. And this time it went through. This branch has few staff to serve customers. I think the waiting time is not too long though. Try to go at non-lunch time to avoid staff missing to have lunch. read more

I am a little disappointed to the way USC credit Union works. I applied for a loan, they took all my information, they made a copy of my SS card and finished my paperwork. I waited for exactly a week to hear from them. Nothing happened. I called a week later to find out what was going on with my application and the gentleman I spoke with said "yes, it has been approved for such amount". But we need you to send and e-mail with a copy of your SS and check stub. I sent the e-mail and he said I'll have a loan officer call you back" Another 24 hours go by and finally I get the call from this lady and she said "we are offering you this amount ". Please send me an e-mail with your SS card and pay stub. I explained to her, I sent it yesterday. She said just send it again. I just forward the e-mail and I am wondering how much longer it will take for them to actually say "here is the money". WOW!!!! read more

This review would have been two stars (maybe deserving of one some days), if it hadn't been for the most wonderfully positive interaction with the staff member Ira. Most of my visits to the credit union have been lengthy and negative. It always seem understaffed in operations, despite that there appears to be enough staff in the room. But for whatever reason, the credit union maintains seemingly arbitrary rigid rules, whereas, certain tellers cannot assist you, despite their windows be frequented considerably less. It makes me ask, what are those people doing all day? Additionally, the front desk staff where people check in on the electronic system are often rude and abrupt. BUT at one of my visits, I was lucky enough to have Ira as a teller. I asked him questions regarding my account and he recognized that a mistake had been made when I signed up a year ago, resulting me being enrolled in the wrong account. He rectified the situation expeditiously and with such care. I truly can't thank him enough. I hope upon hope that the USC Credit Union can hire more employees like him that take the time to listen actively, explain things thoroughly, and actually seem like they love their jobs to provide the best service. read more

I've been a member of USC Credit Union for a while now, and I must say the new branch (which opened 8/27) is the best location I've been to. The space is much brighter than the Flower St branch, and seems to flow better than the old King Hall branch (which closed last Spring). The staff here was very pleasant and knowledgeable, so add 1 star for great customer service. read more

I shouldn't complain because of the outstanding rate: 3.875. It could have been 3.625, but the loan officer did not lock in my rate when I told him to. But this is only the tip of the nightmare that was to come. In spite of an 800+ FICO and a credit report that showed a stellar credit history, my re-fi took 16 weeks to close. The issue without a shadow of doubt centered on my age. After all, what kind of person, their underwriters must have rationalized, would be applying for a 30-year fixed at the age of 64? After several weeks of waiting, the loan office finally advised that I lay low for a few months and reapply. He said he believed the rates would be lower. This was odd, since even the wisest economists are not so sage to make such bold predictions. Additionally, at this point I had not gotten a letter of denial from USC. And I was not about to lose the opportunity for a low-cost loan or teh $550 assessment fee I had paid USC. But I persisted in moving forward with the loan, and as I did, USC upped the ante: The underwriters, the loan officer said, needed a letter from my employer, saying I would be gainfully employed 5 years hence. As silly as this seemed, I made an effort to comply, but my employer would have nothing to do with such a letter. (The administrator at my workplace said he ahd never heard of something so "stupid." How does anyone know what the future holds, he said. I decided to complain in writing and on the phone to the home loan loan manager, who responded but no apparent action was takent--until she received "feedback" from the LA Times (a writer who covers home loan industry) and my congressman to whom I had laid out step-by-step what had happened leading up to a most unusual request by USC, which smacked of ageism. Subsequently, I get a phone call from this loan officer to say the loan was approved. He commented that I "almost got him fired." He said that I had "stabbed him in the back"--he was only trying to "help" me. But, wait, there is a footnote, something that he did, which would most decidedly be grounds for his termination. He violated USC's probable policy of client confidentiality. He gossiped to the woman who had referred me to him for a re-fi, telling her that he was almost fired "thanks to (me)" This woman called my wife. and shamed me to her. Upshot: Glad I got the loan. No problems since. Payments are reasonable. Too bad he can't take responsibility for his own actions. His own hand is to blame. read more

She went out of her way to help me with a speedy auto loan approval for my new job, solved problems super efficiently, and made my first auto loan experience so smooth. I was able to get my new car for commute to work just in time THANKS TO CECELIA! Shout out to her! From my experience, I really feel USC Credit Union serves the best interest of its members of our USC community. I would definitely recommend my friends and fellow Trojans to use their service. This has been THE worst banking experience to date! Despite the Prison type entrance I was told An employee had more say so in establishing my identity over Me, the Governor or Social Security. Because they found a ss# discrepancy from 1997 that was added and removed instantly in 1997 as an error...was cause to question my identity. They then required my actual SS Card which was in a safe deposit box in! In this day and age where you can do everything online.... to require an actual paper document is outrageous! I even showed them a picture of me holding my social security card they said no we need to touch it and verify. Out if spite I returned today to finish the process. Who knew they had a nice person working there. She saved the day her name is Raelena or something close. I highly recommend USC Credit Union as part of one's roster of banking relationships. I've had the chance to use USC Credit Union often since I first joined as a student over 10 years ago. Each and every time, the service has been professional, efficient, and customer-oriented. I had a particularly positive experience a couple of months ago when I was in need of accessing copies of old checks that I had written. Given that the checks were written a number of the years before and also given that this particular account was already closed, I had trouble finding the checks I needed (to prove payment). Evelia Martinez, a member relationship specialist, assisted me above and beyond what I would normally expect. She listened to the importance as to why I needed the checks in the first place and she took her time to find ways to make what I needed happen. I'm very grateful. Customer service/convenience is horrendous. I had to close my original checking account due to fraudulent activity (four instances of debit card fraud in one year). I called customer service to close my old account and open a new one. Pretty simple stuff. They made me go into a branch to handle the transactions in person. I drove 90 minutes to my nearest branch, waited another 90 minutes to see someone, and then drove another 90 minutes back to my office. Not only did I burn four-and-a-half hours of my life, but I ended up burning half a vacation day as well. All so I could sit with a human for ten minutes. Absolutely absurd. Then today, I called customer service four times attempting to reach a human being. Each time I waited on hold for 30 minutes and no one ever picked up. Another two hours of my life I will never get back. I'm over it. USCCU -- Please hire more people. I love your rates and I being a part of the Trojan family, but if this continues, I will have to take my money and accounts elsewhere. read more

It seems like this credit union is 50 years behind. The limits for transactions are extremely low. You need to sign a note and fax it in to make changes to your account. I automatically received a new debit card, because mine had expired. I called to try and activate it and the automated robot said "we are unable to activate your card at this time". So I called their customer service line and Sherrell (with a huge attitude) told me that my card was reported stolen. She was unable to tell me who, when or by what mode of communication the card had been reported stolen. She then told me she could order a new card, but I'd be charged $10(???) Or if I want to avoid the fee I can go into the branch and request a new card... What the heck? My card expires, and the replacement wasn't registered in their system or something, so now the only option I have to actually use my money is take time off my job (USC CU only open 9-5 M-F) to go into the credit union in order to avoid being charged $10 for their mistake? No way man. I'll be withdrawing my money from a shared branch and closing my accounts. Hopefully I can do THAT remotely...but I'm not hopeful. read more

ALUMNI, PARENTS AND STUDENTS BEWARE! You'd be better off going to Bank of America across the street from the campus. Wish I could give 0 stars, a decade of the worst customer service I've ever experienced... To sum it up, after telling a manager at the CU I'm closing my 2 accounts after a decade, they respond "Whatever you want to do"...that's how much they care to keep business. The USC CU tarnishes the USC brand. Started my account as a student, both my husband and I are double alums of the school and working professionals, however, we have consistently been treated like trash by the UNPROFESSIONAL, LOW IQ, RUDE, PETTY and overall horrible tellers, managers, and loan processors here (both in-person and via phone). *The tellers/managers need serious training in CONFLICT RESOLUTION. They subscribe to a "CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS WRONG" way of thinking, and begin conversations in a rude tone which then escalates to outright unprofessional behavior (e.g. hanging up on the customer, constant phone hand-off to others, making loud and obnoxious comments behind the counter about other customers, etc.). *Every time you call they go through a too-long battery of questions to "validate that it's really you" -- bizarre questions, like "what month did you sign up for your account?". Seriously. Who remembers that after a decade?! *Even after letting the CU know about international travel, card was still denied every day of vacation. *The daily limit amounts on the card are way too low, resulting in constant denials and fraud alert phone calls (literally every weekend!) -- and they won't raise the limit for high spenders, like myself. *They call every time a check is cashed from my account to "validate" it (which is a "20 question" process), and it takes 10 biz days to reflect an ATM deposit in the account -- even on a 10 year old account. *Multiple fraudulent issues (for all CU members) causing re-issue of cards which results in a painful process to re-set pin number, often mandatory in person. *The customer service hours are inadequate -- no weekends, no early mornings or evenings. read more

After answering some questions I was quickly approved and had the funds available to me the next day! if only appearance mattered to me about a business I would give 4 stars for cleanliness. But since I would have liked a better impression for my first time going in person as a new member. I would have to rate customer service very low Marks. Since, first impressions are lasting. The crew Ambassadors sitting outside were nonchalant and unfriendly then once inside it was not any better. From the security guard all the way it was about 200ft to see the Tellers. But, it didn't matter that they have a check-in system that noone was using. I cannot believe that the process to refinance my loan was so easy. It literally took just a few phone calls and emails before I got the great news that saved me over $50 a month and gave me some time to catch up on bills by deferring my payment for 90 days! I have been wanting to refinance my ridiculously high interest loan but did not really know where to start. I opened my Trojan account and less than two months later Kenneth Gonzales calls me with a great offer to refinance. I literally had to do minimal work to get this accomplished. Kenneth was so helpful and worked really fast and hard at finding me the best deal ever! I felt like he tried his best as if it was him getting the loan. Just have to shout out to Nancy B. and her manager Myra - they went ABOVE AND BEYOND to help me when the LA County Treasurer told me my check for property taxes bounced, even though I had plenty of funds in my account. They spent a lot of time looking into it, pulled up the files that proved the County had made an error, and sent me the documentation so I can make sure I don't get charged a $50 bounced check fee. Nancy quarterbacked the whole process and followed up to keep me informed on a daily basis. Had a great experience at the USC Credit Union! I originally went there to refinance an auto loan. Mariam was incredibly nice, and helped me get an interest rate that was significantly lower than the one I had before. During the process she was very easy to reach via phone/e-mail. When coming in to the office, I never had to wait more than 2-3 minutes to see somebody, and everybody working there seemed pretty friendly and helpful. I am so happy I joined this credit union. I fired the big banks years ago, but credit unions offer services and knowledge that small banks do not. A simple question turned into a full-on session about how to continue my credit score uptrend. In just one day, I learned so much about finance and banking from a young man named Jorge.
