Very new to the area and made my first Yelp check in to this US Post Office location…read more So far I've been greeted by the nicest of people! I had to send off 2 Flat rate boxes out. The lady that helped me politely told me that one of my small flat rate boxes was jam packed, and unfortunately couldn't accept it. She was VERY FAST to trouble shoot for me, and found me a larger flat rate, padded envelope that was only 20 cents more than the small flat rate box. She suggested to go with her recommendation so I didn't have to pay for tape..again! Thank you for helping me not only recommending me on something that was self adhesive, but in a timely fashion. We didn't even hold up the line and I was done with my transaction in less than 5 minutes.

I usually handle my business in Yucca Valley, the last time jerk red head white old lady work there now it's a early middle age black lady wearing frames gave me bad customer service attitude demeanor. I told my situation kindly as possible but she just didn't care how handle in a nice professional manner. Told me I did the wrong packet the said things I didn't understand making me feel like I'm retarded so I just took it like a champ and told her I'll handle it at home I was feed up with with her attitude. Strange the customer she helped before me was white middle age her demeanor was sooo happy spirited so makes me wonder is she racist??? Towards a certain ethnicity??? Anyways I'm taking my business to Yucca Valley handle my passport there cause they're okay with customer service. And also lots of parking! It is a small space inside if you need a specific service. But it was comfortable enough for me to write my card on the side counter.

My family and I were heading over to Vegas from Joshua Tree and took a route that went through the…read moreMojave National Preserve. I don't know why I have never been through here in my entire life, but it was neat to see the landscape and feeling like I was playing Frogger as I was trying to avoid all the potholes in the 2 lane road. One random stop we came across in the middle of the preserve was the Kelso Depot. I only stopped because I saw that there was a restroom that we could use, and then was surprised to see an actual visitor center to peruse. From the signage out front here's the history: "Built in 1924, the Kelso Depot housed a train station, ticket and telegraph office, restaurant, reading room, and dormitory rooms for railroad employees. It was often called the Kelso Club House, a Union Pacific Railroad term for employee boarding and recreational facilities. As railroad technology improved and fewer personnel were needed, the Depot became obsolete. It was closed in 1985, and Union Pacific planned to raze the building. Concerned citizens intervened and the building was saved. It was renovated and reopened as a National Park Service Visitor Center in October 2005." The Depot is currently under construction as of 12/2025, but you can walk around the building and peek in through the windows. Apparently the area around the depot was like a little village during WW II. It's neat to imagine what life would've been like living out here in the middle of nowhere back in the 1940's. There's no internet out in Kelso, but you can log into the NPS Wi-Fi while you're there.

This place was a lifesaver! Bathrooms just when we needed them! We were in that Saturday I-15…read morererouted to I-40 craziness. Took us 10 hours from Huntington Beach to Vegas. We took a Waze suggestion which ended up saving us two hours. Happened upon the Kelso Depot just at the right time. We're so grateful to these guys keeping their bathrooms open even when the visitor center is closed.

When I was a college student (~1993) I remember visiting Amboy and met Roy the original owner. On that visit I even ate at the diner and had a chili size. So this visit was special to me because I wanted to see what the current owner has been up to. The restored sign looks awesome and the hotel bungalows were open so one could walk inside. Pretty cool. The diner did not sell food but they had a lot of Amboy shirts and hats for sale and miscellaneous Route 66 items. I hope they get the kitchen in the diner functioning again. A great visit and worth getting off Insterstate 40 to see some good old Route 66 history. I got my kicks on Route 66 that morning.
