USPS Post Office - 1:30pm Line longer than Black Friday - Post Offices Near Me - Portsmouth, Virginia

Nobody showed up to work today. Several potential customers in lobby waiting as the opening time came and went.

I have visited this location approximately three times. Each time that I visit the employees are friendly, fast and smiling. They always have on music and that makes the short wait even shorter. No, it is not the most attractive looking Post Office...yes, they need a little help with making the facility a little more attractive. But, it is a typical Post Office. I wish they would overhaul all POs to make them more up to date. As of now, when I am in the area, I would not mind visiting this location simply for the customer service. read more

I wish I could write a review with no stars I've never seen a more useless post office in my entire life. If you leave or do anything and you leave your customers hanging could you at least have the courtesy to put up a sign to tell me what you're doing otherwise I just feel like you don't care because I really don't care about you either. Arrived today at 2:30 pm: a child-like written note was tape on the lobby door stating "closed until 3:30 pm for lunch." I can't believe the USPO would close a government service for a hour lunch! Several persons with packages to Mail could not be served. read more

When using this location Please nake sure that everything you need to mail is 100% ready to go when it comes through the door. I have had priority mail that I sent from this location lost in the mail system for weeks because the last two numbers of the zip code were transposed. Yes, I should have written the zip code properly but the local rep had to see the alert when the zip code did not match the city and state on the priority envelope. Nope, she just through it on the pile and said NEXT! I discovered the error, after waiting two weeks for the 2-3 day priority mail envelope to make it 90miles to it's destination, I called the 1*800 number to speak to a USPS representative who ended up admitting after about 5 minutes of searching for the tracking number that the mistake should have been caught when the local clerk typed in the zip code and saw that it did not match the city and state written on the priority envelope. I was really upset that the USPS rep at this location smiled at me then threw the envelope on the pile as if she did not see the problem on her screen. Customer service - not here but BIG thanks to USPS 1-800 rep who helped me track it down, get it rerouted and delivered within 24 hours after our conversation. The 1-800 number USPS rep even called me back to let me know he was able to get it rerouted. This USPS rep was awesome and her customer sevice skills were on point. I came back to this same location about a month later. I did not want one interesting experience make me right off this location so I did go back mainly because I was in a hurry and I felt that the previous issue may have been a fluke, partially my fault so no harm, no foul. But no...The poor customer service was not a fluke it is a real issue. This office closes at 4:30pm on most days Mon-Fri. So here I go again rushing to make it into the lobby before 4:30pm and I did make it according to the clock. It was within 3 minutes of closing but I made it and the door was open, two other customers were being waited on and all the clerks were at the counter including one who seemed to be in charge because the others turned to look at her when she quickly without looking up from the package she was working on stated "We are closed, the broad street office is opne until 5, you can make it." Seriously, first strike this location for assisting me in misrouting my mail at a very price then telling me to look it up via the tracking number because they can't do anymore than that in their office; Second strike, I am dismissed and denied service without the rep looking up to acknowledge me in spite of the fact that i was on time and one of the other workers appeared to be willing to assist me because the counter in front of them was empty. It is a shame that the post office is losing market share but I undersand why. A few postal employees do not realize that they have jobs because customers seek the services they should be happy to provide us. Yes, putting a stamp on my envelope might have taken them to 4:31pm but how many of us working in retail have been held up that extra minute to provide customer service. Not sure if I will go back for a thrid time and I am almost sure that this location would not care because the organizational environment here is not one where the needs of their customers matter. Do you think that this might be the reason they are closing smaller locations....Hmmm. I wonder when they will understand the connection between profit and customer service. This location is closest to me and within my city so I try to use it when I possibly can...which is difficult because of the hours they are open. I typically must mail out small packages on Saturday...their hours are 10am to 12noon! The next closest is not open on Saturday at all...so...there's that! My 2 most recent occasions to visit this location were wasted trips. First one, on a Saturday...the line was all the way through the lobby and out the door into the yard. Because of social distancing...I would guess there were at least 20 people in this line since I have personally stood in similar lines at this PO before. I did not have the time to wait that day...planned on visiting the following Monday. The open ours of this location during the week is 9am to 430 pm. I arrived at 945am on this particular Monday...the parking lot was full (not usualy) I could see the line was to the outer door (again, not usual) I could probably wait today. But as I enter the lobby (full by the way) the inner doors were still locked (45 minutes past open hours) and the inner area was dark. The waiting customers were chatting, mentioning what and who they had seen and heard inside. Phone calls were being made to other locations to report the issue. Two different responses I heard while waiting were that someone was sending someone. Some of these customers had been waiting since 9am!! I waited 5 minutes...watched multiple people get in line behind me and/or turn around and leave. This location is suffering severely from a personnel shortage and availability. It is a very much used PO since there is almost ALWAYS a line. Please extend open hours and add full time employees. If your ONE employee is sick...so we just not open? not good business for anyone! read more
