He gives you a comprehensive treatment program to heal and rehabilitate your area(s) of pain. This means he teaches you physical therapy-type exercises, so YES you will probably have some "homework" to do after you see him, but it is so worth it because it will help with your pain/health and improve your quality of life. Dr. Medina used a variety of treatments and services in combination with chiropractic adjustments to treat my shoulder pain, which started when I upped my push-up regimen a few years ago and then came back when I had to carry and care for my baby as she got heavier and bigger. He is very experienced and skilled at treating a variety of complaints. I've referred multiple family members to him, for various issues such as shoulder, neck, and back pain, and he has been great at treating these things without requiring pain medications! Score! Here's the issue: when I arrived in extreme pain, I electronically signed a small print agreement that stated something entirely different from what I had been told. I didn't pay much attention to the fine print--my mistake, I admit--because I trusted the doctor's word. I was assured that the third and fourth visits would be included, but that wasn't the case. Not only did they charge me for the third visit, which I was originally told would be covered, but they also charged me for the partial fourth visit, which I canceled on the spot after being informed of the insurance issue. I have horrible disks (thanks, Dad!) and have had severe back problems since I was 22. I had a herniated disk and lumbar laminectomy by another doctor at age 22 and was happy with the outcome, but knew this wasn't the end of my problems. That doctor retired and I had problems once again with the same herniated disk at age 28. Enter Dr. Wood. I had another surgery at 28 and then a spinal fusion at 33, both by Dr. Wood. Both surgeries were very successful. You may wonder why I would need repeat surgeries and if you saw my spine, you'd understand. Both surgeries were done very well. Both times, Dr. Wood had wonderful bedside manner and was very receptive to me. Before the most recent surgery, I was scheduled for surgery but it was Christmas and the surgery was delayed because of the holiday. Something moved in my spine on Christmas Eve and I was a 100+ on the pain scale. I couldn't move. Dr. Wood stopped what he was doing on Christmas Eve and got me some serious pain killers. These were the kind that you had to have the physical prescription for and could not be called in. So, my husband had to meet him on Christmas eve to get the paper prescription to get it filled. He cares. I have seen him various times over the years because my L4-L5 disk doesn't look great (my fusion was L5-S1). He always takes his time and moves through the most conservative steps first. He always takes time to ask questions and doesn't rush me. If you are looking for a highly skilled spine orthopedist, then Dr. Wood is the one.
