Utica Roasting Co came into the area just as I left for undergrad. Every time I come back into town I make sure to stop in and stock up on locally roasted coffee and gifts! The atmosphere is fantastic with industrial elements and a fun coffeehouse vibe. The owners are visible and passionate about reviving Utica's downtown culture with an emphasis on small businesses. The Dirty Chai is as good as I have had and I lived in Silver Spring Maryland, home of Little Ethiopia and its amazing cafes. Wake the Hell Up people and get to Utica Coffee! I'm not even a coffee drinker and I love the place. They have a great selection of teas and chai, with soy and almond milk available. There is an extensive menu of coffee drinks. Their baristas are quick and friendly. You can find a variety of house packaged coffees and teas to take home, shirts, snacks, and various devices for preparing coffee and tea at home. They have a variety of house and locally made snacks and pastries. If you have a sweet tooth, check out the muffins. If you crave the savory, the breakfast sandwiches are great. There is always the possibility of visiting a few doors down to Utica Bread and enjoying two of Utica's treasures. The environment is edgy and industrial but welcoming. Look around and you will find little treasures showing the history of Utica or vintage coffee paraphernalia. There isn't much seating available, but what is there is comfortable and suitable for a social visit or a laptop. If the weather is nice, there is even a table outside. Great places are made great by the people who run it and by the clientele they keep. Utica Roasting has the best of both worlds. I had an out of town guest who wanted to check the place out but she has a Maltese recently diagnosed with diabetes and he needs insulin shots. She needed to crate the pup and bring all 3.7 lbs of him everywhere she went. UTICA roasting was great. They even claimed to be dog-friendly! Everyone inside was welcoming. It was nice to have a place to go where we didn't feel guilty for bringing a crated sleeping 3-lb dog. As many others said, there is clearly great coffee here. Next time I'll try a baked good. :) Thanks to URC for taking some stress away and for making the coffee that got me through my day. read more

I had an exceptional cold brew here. I'm not a big fan of Indonesian coffees but I had an out of this world Sumatra Mandheling cold brew which I never would have expected to enjoy. It was roasted and brewed to perfection w no bitterness, no sugar needed. It was lightly spicy and sweet and had no peaty undertones which I have an aversion to. It is not hard to get to off the interstate. I will remember it the next time I am in the area and will try a latte. From my experience here, this place will satisfy the coffee snob. I came in for a cup of coffee on a road trip and was pleasantly surprised. They have a huge range of roasts including many flavors, but I'm more of a purist and took interest in their single origins. The barista behind the bar suggested a fruity and slightly acidic Ethiopian that was amazing. Definitely a great find and I hope I will get a chance to come back. read more

Great little store. We stopped there before dinner next door at Tailor and Cook. The staff was amazingly helpful and friendly. I don't think I've run across nicer people in a coffee shop or really other service establishments. More importantly, the coffee is great. We had pistachio flavored. It was so good we bought some to go and the super helpful staff, after asking how we were going to prepare it, ground it to the 'Keurig' grind, which is different from usual, right from fresh beans. Thoughtful and helpful. I'm currently checking if they have an internet delivery system, as it's a ways from my house, but definitely stopping by next time we are in the area. 6 stars for great coffee and better service! read more

STRONG coffee. We can't speak for all the designer choices, as we're 'straight forward cup of coffee' people, but the owners clearly work hard to make this company a staple in the area by providing a sincere product. A bit cramped but the walls are as eclectic as the books. We were extras in the movie Falling so sat here for hours, savoring the ambiance, enjoying a pastry. We support local businesses as long as those businesses continue to support their community authentically. UCRC seems to be doing just that. This neighborhood is up and coming again.... don't discount downtown Utica just yet. Own-of -towners.... make your way to this industrial themed coffee place. Love their coffee and plenty of options. Love their matcha tea. Love their food options as well. The only reason I am giving this five stars is lack of cleanliness. Last time I was here I had some people to call, appointments to make, etc so I sat in their window counter area. I got a hot matcha tea with soy milk and two slices of multigrain toast with butter and jam. It was so tasty! But the second slice had a suuuuuuper long hair in it and nothing grosses you out more than a hair in your food. Totally lost my appetite. Also there were little knats flying around near the window seating area. Feel their second location in Clinton is cleaner. read more

Stopped here while heading out after a great weekend in town. The cold brew from Africa was great - I'm not picky with my iced coffee but this was a really nice change up from the usual nitro cold brew/standard iced coffee I usually get. This morning I was in line to order my frappe. When it was my turn to order, I ordered & the girl who took my order made a coffee and put it on the counter, I went to grab it thinking she messed up my order but she told me it wasn't for me and pointed to the guy behind me and cashed him out.
