Wow!! While checking out the Total Wine in Bellevue, this fabulous market is right next door. I can see why it's so busy! Great fresh produce, phenomenal seafood selections, Wagyu beef choices, and so much more! I happened to want to check it out as I was needing a few ingredients to make Adobo chicken.. found the ingredients..and much more! Definitely worth more shopping and exploring new adventures, lots of fresh seafood to try, sushi, Asian food, and great variety of produce. I have one very upset, uncomfortable experience today. And it's about discrimination. I asked the self checkout staff to help me to apply the "red envelope" coupon as they instructed. But this lady just talked to the phone and waved her hand to tell me to go her spot to redeem the coupon. So I went there, and waited for a few minutes. But she asked me to go back to the spot I did my self Check out. And it seemed like the remote redemm thing crashed the check out system. Then, again, go back to her spot. And she told me unfortunately my system was crashed. After that, she just let me standing there without any further instructions. I waited for a couple minutes without any explanations. And seeing other people using the self check out and go. And she talked to white lady nice and friendly but not find a quick way for us. Then, she put us to another staff checkout line and was regardless of the line there. And when the staff felt embarrassed and told her maybe not, she just said please help and this self checkout lady just left us there for another 3-5 minutes. Then, this checkout lady had to call back self checkout staff to come back and said she would NOT do our checking out. Then, I was being put to the gift department without any proper apologies. When I wanted to make compliant to the store, the gift department lady told me that search online for their email and find the number by myself, and she also told me that the manager was not here today so no one would answer my compliant, and she just pushed us to pay immediately. I usually do not like to quarrel with others, I am a soft voice asian woman, so that I was being ignored and told to go here and there for more than 10 mins and could not have a proper apologize, and I even had to find a way, which maybe don't exist, to do my customer compliant. THIS IS BULLYING YOUR CUSTOMER AND THIS IS DISCRIMINATION! And this is not my only bad experience here. Last time at the seafood section, the guy behind the counter intentionally asked me about five times what do you want and I said, pointed again and again. He just kept saying: " What?????" If you had been there, you would know that the talking or pointing is not that hard to recognize. I think he just thought it was ok and fun to pretend not understanding. read more

Went to Seattle, WA for a business trip and Uwajimaya was the perfect place to fill my refrigerator with groceries for two weeks. I was able to eat foods without feeling deprived from home cook foods. I also was able to buy their fresh bentos and familiar Asian products and produce. The entire two weeks, Uwajimaya made me feel less homesick. I was able to survive two weeks away from home. They had all I need. read more

Been going here for around 20 years. Exceptional service. Some of the employees have been there for a longggg time and their Japanese service truly sets them apart. Even the newer employees they hire, are amazing. The fastest check out cashiers with great care. The fastest I've seen in the US haha. They have a decent selection of stuff always. After Covid the prices of their sushi seem to have gone up and not many wild fish selections. After they had a renewal a couple years back it's very nice to walk through and they have security there always which is AMAZING and I am all for it!! read more

I would like to take take this opportunity to give some snack recs. - Circle crackers with seaweed bits (I think they're called want want crackers) - Bin Bins - Turtle chips (but my mom threw my bag away because they have carcinogens which is not ideal but still kinda worth because they taste so good) - Man toes (little white circle things with baby logo) - Korean seaweed chips (Gim Bugak) Now for the review, I love Uwajimaya! It makes me feel at home and not just because I'm Asian. I just feel so happy and comfortable strolling the aisles. If i were alone, I would skip. Employees are so helpful and can find anything in the store. And as a bonus, the hot food options are great value! They pack the food down like we're friends or something. read more

I love Uwajimaya in Seattle, but this location is closer to home so I go here. This is my go-to place to get all the ingredients I can't at Safeway including lime leaves, and big bundles of herbs. The employees have always been really nice when I've needed help and I've always been able to find anything I need. It's way less overstimulating and overcrowded with products than some of the international markets I've been to. read more

Very neat Japanese grocery store. It is hard to find one like this on the East coast, down south. My mother was Japanese so it was great finding some items that she used to buy and cook for us. The restaurant inside was a plus. Tables are outside if you want to sit down and eat. read more

Came in, was denied service, threatened call police and got kicked out due to having a service animal with us, and even though we had all proper paperwork security was extremely rude and unprofessional. I love Uwajimaya's. My older sister introduced me to Asian food at the original one in Chinatown (that's what it was called back then) south of Seattle back in the 70's. Fell in love with the food, people and culture. That was the first place I ever had bao buns, yakisoba, and sui mai. Spokane didn't have anything like that then and is still running behind, although we have a few really good markets now. Have been going to Uwajimaya's in Bellevue since they were off Bel-Red Rd. As my sister did with me, I introduced my kids to everything there at that location when they were just toddlers. Now I take my grandson to the "new" location closer to downtown - third generation loyal customers! Every time we're in the area, shopping at Uwajimaya's is a priority! read more

This is one of my favorite markets in these here parts! They carry a variety of ethnic ingredients, not just Japanese. Every once in a while, I would discover something new that I didn't notice before. I have found fresh truffle, foie gras in the freezer, snacks that I didn't think I would find in the States, freshly foraged mushrooms. They also have a hot food section, a bakery that has yet to disappoint me, and a fancy shop that sells mochi and other giftable snacks. The store is clean and easy to navigate. It is my on my weekly rotation of supermarkets to hit up. Even if I don't end up buying anything, I enjoy a nice stroll in the store to see whats new. read more

Much smaller than Seattle one. Always huge lines especially since pandemic started. Huge multiple likes outside. But it gets the job done somehow. Space: much smaller so things are crammed in. But it makes it easier to find things, sort of. Prices are higher on some items. Some prices are different! Not sure why. I've actually compared it with photos. I usually stop here when I have work on east side. Parking lot is free unlike Seattle ( they validate with purchase) but it's much harder to find parking here. Always very hectic. The items: they have different items here. Some are on sale, some not. I always come for mushroom(s) and they almost always have different ones than what I'm looking for. But it works most of the time. The deli is huge here and have lines. Seattle one doesn't. I've actually tried a few items. Got persuaded by that long line! Darn it. I've tried their shrimp tempura: cold and soggy: roast duck. A ok. I do like their dessert. Mochi! Sesame balls with red beans inside. Sashimi aisle! I usually get something from their sashimi aisle which also has a huge lines at time. They also have a huge fridge full of kimchi, pickle stuff. Pickle ginger is always good. All in all much smaller! More people, hard to park, hectic but it gets the job done. read more

This location is never as busy as the Seattle location and it also has a large parking lot. I do sometimes wonder if not many people know it exists because it always feels empty. The store itself is barely staffed, especially at night, and there is frequently only one checkout lane open. In general, Uwajimaya has a great selection of Asian products at varying prices. But lately, whenever I go, I find there are a lot of empty spots and cases. I'm not sure if it's a staffing issue and they can't find time to stock their shelves properly, or if there are inventory issues and they struggle to keep certain items in stock. It's not exactly the Chinatown flagship store however it has all of the items that I need. Food shopping is no longer a downtown Seattle traffic and parking game of chance. This location may not have a huge food court, however it does deliver in cleanliness, available products, convenience, and free parking. The produce section is sufficiently stocked. The aisle ways are clear and clean and the products faced. The fresh meats and seafoods are also stocked with everything including pre-marinated beef bulgogi. The bakery section, though small, is also well-stocked and arranged. They even have a warm case for barbecue pork and meal bowls. The cashier lines can be long due to the number of active checkstands. There are self-service checkouts to for anyone with 15 items or less. Parking is free. Yes, there is no minimum purchase to park for free. Finally, everything I need and only a few exits away. read more

Uwajimaya doing a splendid job on COVID19 (ie.. TrumpVirus) protocols. They had signs up saying couldnt use reusable shopping bags, but they allowed us to if we bagged ourselves. They're definitely monitoring store occupancy per state guidelines. The store is rather cramped; narrow aisles. I havent sampled the Deli but it looks absolutely amazing. Prices here are pretty high, but the quality is high as well. We come here mainly to get fresh sushi ingredients and hard-to-find produce (like baby bok choy, lemon grass, galanga, etc). But its hard to resist the cooking section, rice cookers, woks and implements. And I'm always throwing stuff in the cart to try simply because it looks delicious even though I have no idea what it is. The staff are exceptional and friendly, even to a wide-eye like me. What's there to not love about Uwajimaya?! I wasn't even planning on going grocery shopping, but when I saw the Uwajimaya I instantly decided that sushi sounds great, and Uwajimaya is usually my favourite store to stock up on the veggies that I require. This one is on the smaller side, but like the other locations, they have a very nice selection of goodies from all over the Orient. Plenty of foods that you can't get in a regular grocery store plus a bunch of adorable home décor and trinkets. I always really appreciate that pretty much everything is clearly labeled in English. If the original package doesn't have English on it there's usually a sticker on there to help me out! Prices are either really good or "okay" depending on what you're looking for. There are some things I can find at the regular grocery store for less while other times Uwajimaya really takes the cake and provides a much higher quality item for much less. Employees were super helpful, as I'm accustomed to in Uwajimayas and their self-serve checkout machines worked very nicely! read more

Like many who live in the area, I've been going to Uwajimaya ever since I started living in the area, decades ago. This is their Bellevue location, smaller than the Seattle store for sure, possibly smaller or similar to the Renton store. Overall, Uwajimaya wins as a reasonably Asian comprehensive store with a primary focus towards Japanese food. Their stores are cleaner than most Asian stores. Their prices are higher than most Asian stores too. They have weekly special items that are fairly decent, price wise. I enjoy the special events they host, more commonly at the Seattle location. This store is usually too small to accommodate special events. This store does have three mini shops inside. J Sweets that sell high end Japanese mochi, crackers, etc. Their snacks are delicious! There's also a bakery (forgot the name). And there's a boba shop, called Oasis. I come here for last minute items I need. Otherwise, I prefer going to International District. read more

If all the Asian markets in Washington state Uwajimaya is the more expensive of the other markets like 99 Ranch or H Mart. It's been awhile since I've been to Uwajimaya I've learned the Bellview store has the better bentos and takeout food, they also have a nicer fish section than the International district store. Yet, the prices are still higher than the other not Uwajimaya stores. So I went to get bentos and snacks at the Bellview store because I feel they have better snacks than any of the other stores. I took my purchased goodies home and my friends who have never had these foods were blow away and enjoyed every bite and I did too! read more

Well, Uwajimaya used to be to go to place for take out sushi sashimi and other Asian delights since the store has been remodeled I find the product consistency to deteriorate. They do have delectable items like wasabi peas, canned fish, hot Chinese, food bar, and wonderful fresh fish and beef deli, fresh vegetables, etc. However, I purchased the assorted nigiri sushi tray 10 pieces of Atlantic salmon today for $20.99 and there was no soy sauce in the package. What is a poor white boy to do? Must I go to Kroger to purchase soy sauce when the top Asian food market doesn't provide it in a standard expensive package oh well no Santa Claus there. like Kroger does and fresher. read more

This business has been known to inflating their prices above plenty of other local Japanese grocers. This location in general is really doing a disservice to their local community, taking advantage of the fact they are in Bellevue. Don't believe me? Take three items you usually buy here, then go to Seattle and buy the same items. A majority of the items are literally half the prices of the Bellevue location. Even non-edibles like a cheap Kuromi keychain is $15 in Seattle and $24 in Bellevue.. so laughable.. probably shop here if it's your last resort for Asian groceries. Or just go to H Mart which has fair prices. read more

Super solid grocery store with a great selection of Asian items. I wouldn't necessary get standard produce here (e.g. bananas) because the prices for that aren't great, but if you want a deal on Asian pears or atypical mustard greens, this is the place for you. Excellent selection of rice (brown, white, short grain, medium grain, long grain, sushi, etc). Dried mushrooms and laver/seaweed galore. And thankfully most of the products aren't made in/processed in China! I love coming later in the day and seeing marked down sushi / hot items and grabbing them. Fuji Bakery is an excellent addition inside; see my separate review for it on their Yelp page, but I do recommend stopping by! Also they handled the Covid19 pandemic beautifully. A line is clearly formed outside the store, with markings on the ground to show you how far apart 6 feet is (because people really struggle with that, unfortunately). Carts are cleaned before they are given to you. Employees are still super kind and friendly when helping you. read more

I love visiting international markets. Being in Seattle, I was so excited to see what they could possibly sell. There was tons of fresh fish and piles on piles of crabs. I bought some fresh ahi poke that was made the day and inari sushi. The poke was soooooooooooooo fresh, the texture had slight bite to it (no mushy or chewiness) with the right amount of soy sauce as seasoning. The inari was sweet and the tofu skin around it was marinated to perfection. It cost me about $12 total and it was the 2nd best poke i've ever had in my life. 1st is always going to be Hawaii. I've been going to Uwajimaya ever since I was kid. I still remember when the old Bellevue Uwajimaya used to be near Crossroads where Trader Joe's now resides. Anyways, it's nice to see the old Larry's Market site is put to good use. Uwajimaya is pricier than the normal Asian grocery stores like Ranch 99 Market. It's probably because of the all the imported items they have for sale. Nonetheless, I'm happy to pay a little extra because I can't find a lot of the goods at other contemporary grocery stores. I can't find a lot of places that sell Starfruit or Lychee in their Fruit Section. Most of the time, I'm here for the steam table or hot foods section. I usually get the Jumbo Combo for $9.95. I think the price went up, because it was $9.95 in the past. Oh well. With the Jumbo Combo, you get your standard choice of Chow Mein or Fried Rice or mix. For a $1 more, you can upgrade to Phad Thai or Chow Fun. As for the sides, I usually choose between the Adobo Pork, Teriyaki Chicken, Szechuan Style Tofu, General Tso's Chicken, or Mongolian Beef. They're all better than what you would get from Safeway's China Express and at the mall food courts. Plus, the portions are huge! It's enough for lunch and dinner later. It's nice to have some diversity in Bellevue when I'm grocery shopping. I'm glad they've made a home here. Now, I don't have to drive into Seattle to buy Salmon Roe when I'm making sushi. read more

We visited this place on 7/16/23. We had a best customer service from our cashier. Our receipt said his name was Taylor. He was very friendly, efficient, and nice. He bagged our groceries very nicely so they were easy for us to carry. When he realized that we were speaking in Japanese, he started talking to us in beautiful Japanese. Very polite and nice person. We left so happy and hope to go there again soon! read more

Pros: Decent flow. Clean check-out counters. Fresh produce. Well-arranged seafood collection. Issues: 1. Guy cut up my duck. Did not ask if I wanted it cut up. I suppose there was no way to get it to fit in the containers they have available. Some off the pieces were super small. He seemed a little limited in English and also in auto-pilot, so I did not harass him. He finished and handed me a greasy container -- not bothering to wipe it off. Went to the check out counter, told the clerk I was going to wipe it off, but he too was on auto-pilot put the greasy contents in a bag and was done with it. 2. Some items are competitively-priced (i.e., condiments, noodles, fish), but some (i.e., water, pastries, meats) are almost double the price of Whole Foods or PCC. Perhaps the contracts are different, but $5.23 for a 1L of Smart Water?! You all maybe can benefit to renegotiate those contracts or push more discounted products, particularly in a lower spending, post-inflationary, pandemic-weary climate. 3. Someone tell your grandparents/aunties/uncles to stop being so damn rude to non-kin. Teach them how to say 'thank you', 'hello', and 'excuse me' at least. For the short encounter I was bumped into and greeting shunned at least 10 times. Maybe it is a cultural thing, but I believe this country and people in general can benefit from BASIC human respect, acknowledgement, and kindness. Just because I do not have your surname or look like you, does not mean you have to be so damn primal. read more
