I shop at Metro a few times a year, but it's normally at the Sand Point location after leaving a friend's place. I would have been clueless to this location, but a couple years back, I grabbed a physical ad and it listed this location. Mercer Island is a place I don't make a habit of visiting and this stop reminded me why. My brother used to live here, but that was 30 years ago. Pulling into the parking lot, everybody was acting like their car was priceless and you needed to give them space. If it takes you 45 seconds to back into a space everyone else is pulling into, you will catch my horn. It was a sunny day, but the real reason you needed sunglasses was to reduce the glare of the oversized ultraclear diamonds. I'll be blunt, I can't afford to live here, but it doesn't mean I can't shop there and truth be told. My car is just as nice or nicer than MI residents, I just never felt a need to live in financial isolation. We'll come back to the car. Almost everything you see here is 30% higher than a regular store, the only advantage to shopping her in my opinion is selection. You will find brands and items not normally found at Safeway or Fred Meyer, but I also saw sliced salami for nearly $24 a pound. You also see a lack of items on sale here which again, just reduces the overall value. I had people bumping into me, nudging me to get to items in front of me like I didn't matter and no one said excuse me or thank you for me yielding when they were clearly in the wrong. At one point, I literally had an employee apologize to me. He witnessed residents being entitled and rude to me and it was clear that was not the environment the store wanted to foster. My cashier was really nice, when I asked about her day, I think she quickly knew, I was not a local. Her face lit up and it was clear, she just wanted to be recognized. In the parking lot, I encountered a retired couple who had cut in front of me multiple times. They looked scared like I was there for payback. When I walked around there car the wife got worried, then I heard her tell her husband, "That's his car" next to their. As it turns out. We drive the exact same car, just difference colors. Matter of fact, I have 2 of them. I'm old school and last time I was here, this place was Albertson's Matter of fact, my childhood neighbor was the Store Director. . Last time I got so much attitude, I was in Medina. I'm happy for your success, but don't turn public places into uncomfortable atmosphere. It probably doesn't help that prices here are so unreasonable that people feel an obligation to act like idiots because they can afford to shop here weekly. Metropolitan Market is usually pretty awesome and it's nice to have a location on Mercer Island. However, our visit today was a total miss. At the cafe, I ordered a black ice tea and the worker handed me a latte. This was early morning so I was the only customer in line at the cafe. Ten minutes later, my friend ordered a latte and got a matcha latte. We also ordered fries from the deli, and they were just okay. The rest of the store is clean and brightly lit, usual market vibes. read more

What is up with all the negative reviews? I love this location. My buddy lives within walking distance so whenever we go over to his place, we come down here to grab ready-to-eat food. We were very hungry after a wine tasting/share so we grabbed a bunch of items this time. Everything we picked up was good! Pretty impressive given they were just all sitting in the fridge (it was around 930pm). Their selection of premade food is amazing. My favorite is their chicken karage. Highly recommended! Disabled people need to grocery shop during all hours of the day and night. They do not just go out during the mid day time. This store blocks off entrances for safety reasons after 8/9pm but they block off the entrance furthest from the disabled parking. This decreases equal access for people with limited mobility. read more

I used to come here all the time when it was Seasons. When it changed to Met Market, I gave it a chance and did like a few items - crab artichoke dip, marinated flank steak, good selection of wine. However, for the last year I have gone here probably 8 times and there is NEVER any crab and artichoke dip. I know they have to make it and they always have an excuse why they don't have any or why they cannot make more. If they don't want to sell it, they should just tell customers that it is a discontinued item so our hopes are not crushed upon coming in the store. If they had the dip regularly, I would shop here more regularly. read more

Interesting experience here. Metropolitain has always been one of the upmarket grocers with nice merchandise; friendly staff and convenient locations. The main grocery store is well stocked and staff are friendly. What's surprising and prompting this review is how quality is falling off - attention to detail seems to be slipping. 6:00AM at store opening and the place is not clean. Spilled powder on the floor in the baking- goods aisle; random paper & trash on the floor; merchandising tags under wire display in bakery section; seating area in the cafe has assorted garbage - business card / remains of muffin / large crumbs / stains on the cloth seating. For such nice products & location, this unexpected decay shows a lack of understanding that cleanliness and presentation matter. I hope Met Market finds their way. read more

This Metropolitan Market at Mercer Island had a much nicer self checkout than the Magnolia Metropolitan Market. While their cold section was smaller than the Queen Anne location, they had more Rind chips in stock than either Queen Anne or Magnolia, and I was specifically there to clean them out for an upcoming trip to the East Coast. Parking was easier and felt safer at this location and they also seemed to have more associates working at the store. It's probably my favorite of all three and I would definitely come back. read more

I LOVE this store however, the produce is terrible. I think they may be over buying so salads and such aren't fresh. The salad I bought yesterday was wilted so bad I just threw it out. Just wish things had a fresher feel. The floral department also is unpredictable. It looks great and full of every flower but sometimes the flowers die the next day. You're better off going to MI florist as the prices are comparable and they do an amazing job. read more

I am surprised to see the low ratings for this place. I am actually glad that it has replaced New Seasons. It has everything you need for cooking or baking. There's a small section of cookware and bakeware, and all those items are of high quality. I like that as I don't need to drive to a far place just for a nice pie dish or a cast iron pan. Sometimes there is a promotion over those items so that I can buy them much cheaper than buying from other stores. I agree that in general the price range for this place is a bit higher than other grocery stores, but you have to know what to choose. I've found that the prices of certain items here are comparable to those at Safeway or QFC, so you really need know what you want and the actual prices at other stores. From time to time, the store sends us coupons like buy one get one free that I always use to get a better deal. I also love their deli section where there is a good selection of delicious soup. The cookies are also great! Please note I am not a cookie person, but I do like the Cookie at the Met. Finally, I love how clean and how friendly this place is. Whenever I see an employee, he/she offers to help me. I feel I am welcomed. The place is clean and bright, that makes a comfortable place for me to shop. read more

Not sure why this place has anything less than 4 stars - that absolutely blows my mind. Every time I come here or go to West Seattle the experience has always been 5 stars. I wish I could give this place more than that because at the kitchen, someone by the name of Amber REALLY went ABOVE & BEYOND for me. Theres a Katsu Sando that is the sandwich of the month and we nearly missed it due to a shipping error. However, Amber checked for the ingredients that were available and made it happen! I loved the Kirkland met market and was excited to try this new one on Mercer Island. The best thing I love from Kirkland was their thumb print jam/chocolate cookie. I was disappointed to find out they don't have thumbprint cookies at this location. Sad. But they do have "The Cookie". It was a very rich chocolate chip, very nice texture. It was a special item behind the counter so I thought it would have been warmed but it was not. The produce still seem fresh and organized like what New Season used to be, I think it is a good replacement on the Island but was just bummed from the missing treat. This rating is solely for the flatbread pizza in the deli. If you're looking for a cheap meal, head here for the flatbread pizza. You can get two squares for $7, and on Friday you can get two for $5. The portions are huge and two squares will fill you up! This past week I tried the pepperoni, mushroom, and sausage flatbreads and they were all tasty. They will heat it up for you there too. I got four to go and picked up a packaged salad. For $21 my partner and I had a nice meal at home. We were both impressed with the quality, and we'll definitely be back for more. My go-to grocery store when I need something I can't get from Smith Brothers or Pacific Coast Harvest; I'm here 2-3 times a month for pantry staples, meat, and flowers, mostly, with some fruit thrown in for good measure. Happiness includes: tiny chunks of crystallized ginger in just the right size for "toss into a batch of molasses cookies", local Cairnspring Mills flour which I had ordered online and then found out that Met Market carries it, White Lily unbleached self-rising flour for biscuits, Satsuma tangerines, Shen Zen blueberry kombucha, and a single slice of the delicious Essential Baking chocolate cream pie. And the Dahlia Bakery coconut cream pie. Yesterday, sous vide cooked a NY strip roast from Met Market , and then seared the outside, and the gang decimated the super-tender, flavorful, medium rare roast. Also earlier had sous vide cooked some organic chicken breasts and those went fast too. Sometimes the flowers are awesome and sometimes they're a little expensive... there's always a good assortment of flowers and plants but I don't always end up getting something. Yes, prices are expensive, but that's to be expected: upscale, inflation, and MI. Staff has always been lovely and polite, checkout has been fast, and only once has there been a mishap with bagging (please don't put the pie at the bottom of the bag.) Haven't asked for help or special service yet. read more

Sometimes Yelp reviews just write themselves; this is one of those reviews. I honestly don't know what happened to this place. The food court has become some kind of dystopian eating experience. They shut down their noodle bar and other dining options and only have super dry heatlamp food. No longer can you order a plate of food; instead all food items are now to be sold and packaged individually. They also eliminated access to condiments. So, if you need hot sauce to help you down the desiccated food you bought, you'll need to venture to the grocery section to buy it. The offshore owners of Metropolitan Market surely seem to have picked from the saddest and least happy of the prison work release population to help you. read more

If you love shopping Metropolitan Market avoid this Mercer Island location at all costs. My Metropolitan Market home base is in West Seattle. It's vibrant, busy, and fun. All around great employees and a welcoming atmosphere. The parking lot is always jam packed but in reality that's what you want to see. That full parking lot shows that it's *the* grocery store in the Admiral District. On our way back from hiking, my friends and I decided to stop by Mercer Island to grab "The Cookie". Mind you, this was my first time at this MM and I left the grocery store annoyed. My friends and I were walking around the deli area and a guy bumped into me and didn't even say sorry. What was really weird was that I saw him again following other women around in the deli area looking at their shopping carts. It was really creepy. So my friends and I walked up to the bakery counter and there were two male employees talking. They both looked at us, went back to their conversation as if we were never there, looked back at us again, ended their conversation, then one of them made a hesitant walk towards us. He gave us an uninterested look and he took our order. Usually at the Admiral District location those cookies would have been bought up but nobody seems to buy them here. Those cookies are one of the things that this grocery store chain is known for. As we were walking out, I noticed another employee had this defeated look on his face as if he wished he were somewhere else. Bad vibes. Not returning. Gosh I miss when this place was New Seasons. They had much better prepared food and the employees were so much friendlier. The buffet is garbage. We shop here several times per week. Today we went to the deli and ordered a pound of Dietz & Watson pastrami, which we do several times a week. It's delicious. Unfortunately we received corned beef. I went back to return the item (approximately $19). I was told by the supervisor on duty to go exchange it at the deli. They had already closed the deli early, as they frequently seem to do, and appeared to be out of pastrami. When I came back to him, he said he was unable to issue the refund unless I had the credit card that was used to purchase the meat. Again, this was just a $19 purchase. I went back home and brought back the card and received the refund. For a market with profit margins as high as this, I would expect some semblance of customer service. I had to make two trips there to correct their error (giving us the wrong meat). The manager on duty should have been able to issue a $19 refund for their error (based on the pack of with a barcode dated with today's date) without me having to procure the purchasing card. Their chicken breast parmesan and buffalo chicken wings from the meat counter are good. read more

This is a great location, with lovely employees I've had great interactions with. Some things maybe many things, are pricey but those often are more exclusive unique items. I've been shopping at this location since it opened, but several weeks ago was accused of shoplifting by a manager named 'Nick'. I had taken a bit of food from the hot bar / salad area, had a health issue (which I was glad to provide documentation / proof of after the fact), rushed to the bathroom and ended up throwing away what I took, because obviously I couldn't just return the fresh food I'd acquired. I instead purchased some juice for my weak stomach, and this 'Nick' confronted me and said I was no longer allowed to shop at the store. I offered to show him the thrown out product, offered to let him search my personal items / backpack, etc. He refused and said he would contact the cops if I didn't leave. I have contacted management at this location multiple times now and have received no support on this misunderstanding. Again, this is a great store. But, I am not someone that appears wealthy or well-to-do like many customers do here. I always have a backpack on, I am african-american, I have chronic health issues, and I frequent the store and know many of the employees. I'm only sharing this story because perhaps it will connect with someone else here, or maybe it'll somehow help the fact that I'm banned from my preferred grocery store. Stopped by the market on Sunday morning to get a ham and cheese quiche from the deli/bakery counter, which I absolutely love. As I was ordering, I saw the egg toast sandwiches sign and knew I had to try it, esp since it's only available on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The worker freshly made it right after I ordered it. I don't know what is exactly in it and what makes the Korean egg toast considered as Korean, but I'll accept it as is because it's pretty good. Messy, but good. Continuing on with my 1 star review for a few more reasons and really hoping the store manager sees this. #1: the same guy who was disrespectful and yelled at us, who BTW believe his name is Allen and he's a manager, we overheard telling his employees to "double bag the strawberries because I'm tired of hearing customers b**** about them leaking" within eyesight of customers!? Like I get working in retail and dealing with customers can be annoying, I've done it, but don't complain about customers literally in front of customers!? #2: I came here last week with a friend after a very long walk. We were dressed in leggings, running shoes & workout shirt - so very obvious we were exercising. One employee who I see frequently stocking the fruit & veggie department literally looked like he was gonna break his neck looking my friend up and down. We're here to grocery shop, grab a snack. Not to get objectified or cat called or hit on by an employee. It was actually so disgusting and made both of us SO uncomfortable. Yes we're women wearing workout leggings, that doesn't give you the excuse to stare our bodies up and down especially while at work. That infuriated me. I've seen him several times since do the same thing to other women. It's disgusting. Anyways, long story short the employees here are either really nice or truly, truly awful. I'm beyond angry with this place! Check out the photo of the turkey. It's supposed to be the market, nicely cooked turkey. You buy the kit so you have a home cooked meal. The turkey was shipped in and pre-packaged, I could have picked it up myself in the frozen section and saved $75. Why is the meal kit, that's supposed to be freshly cooked, over $100?! The whole kit probably should have been about $25. Check your kit before buying anything. I should have checked through the box and walked out. Thanks for ruining my Christmas dinner tomorrow Metro. This company purchased longtime beloved local market New Seasons and remodeled and reopened it. New Seasons had an open an organic feel to it, with a welcoming array of knick knacks and books up front when you walked in, warm lighting, and open, offset displays that gave the store a homey and hand placed feel. It has been replaced with tall, perfectly squared off shelves with cold, harsh lighting. It looks like an expensive Target now. Also they had 4 or 5 cops walking around, not respecting social distancing inside, which ironically makes you feel less safe - why would they need so many cops on opening day if it was a safe place to be? I miss New Seasons already. Mercer Island was never an eclectic or artsy city to begin with but this store is like a monument to gentrification. read more

No wonder this place gets 2 stars! However my vote goes to one star at best and here is why.... Ordered the famous Tom Douglas coconut cream pie. They didn't have 4 or 6 inches so went ahead and got a 9 inch one. Picked it up right before the closing time and it was around 8:50pm. Someone at the bakery came out and gave me a sad looking cake box. And I asked him whether this cake was ready to eat and he said yes about three times. However I kinda noticed that the box was quite cold. When I came home, it was still frozen! I paid for a frozen cream pie for $45! Me and my wife were so looking forward to it but it was an epic fail. Does Tom Douglas know about this? How come the guy didn't even tell us how to prep it? How come the guy didn't even give me any instruction? I drove all the way to this market for this? Wow.. what a bad service... The cake was not ready to eat at all!!! And the worse part about this whole situation is that I did see the same pie in display!!! The guy was so lazy to open it and give me the one ready but instead got one from the freezer although he knew that I was planning on eating it right away. Waste of $45... There are things I like about Metropolitan Market, Mercer Island: It is relatively easy to check out quickly (unlike QFC), the coffee is incredible and the deli is comprehensive, the food good and with very friendly staff. One thing I give the lowest rating to is the over-use of salt in the parking area. Good grief, it looks like it snowed! It seems like every time the thermometer drops below 40 degrees, you dump tons of salt everywhere. The other day (Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022) the temperature was 39 degrees and when I drove in, there was massive amounts of salt everywhere. My freshly washed car was covered with a layer of salt when I came out of the store and I tracked salt into my car and later into my home! All I ask is please use some judgment when and how much salt to apply - no other business on the Island goes over-board on salt like MM. Thank you... read more

My favorite part of metropolitan market is the large selection of cheeses, meats, and other charcuterie board components. The produce I've gotten here has been very fresh, the prices are a little more expensive but not terrible. There's no canning or jarring supplies here, so that was a little bit of a bummer. I tried the hot ramen and it was all right, I wasn't expecting it to be amazing as it's a grocery store, it got the job done. My biggest complaint is that the olive bar is open to the air and buffet style, that doesn't seem very safe for these current Covid times. read more

I always find what I need at Met market! Produce is wonderful. The staff in the meat department are not very friendly nor in the cheese department. The lady in the seafood department is always really helpful. I remember I was looking around in the cheese department and no one asked if I needed help, while I was there two ladies came into the areas and they were asked immediately if they needed any help. I just left the area. It's not that I need the staff to be overly friendly; it's just something I observed. The people at checkout are wonderful. It would be great if the hot bar was replenished more often, I've noticed when food is put out early by 1:00pm it's pretty dried out. I do like Met Market and will continue to shop there, perhaps not at this store, the staff is nicer at the West Seattle store. read more

I have never been to a more rude establishment. I went to order a bakery item for a birthday event. I was advised that I could NOT preorder and that I had to show up and buy it in the day of. I've been to other MM before, and have never had this experience. The gentleman who worked in the deli/bakery department was very pretentious. Never again will I go back to this particular store.
