UWM Barber Shop located inside UWM Men's Clothing Store: I visited UWM Barber Shop today for the first time since moving here to Salt Lake City, UT for a beard trim and line up. I was in the market for a barber who is a perfectionist, passionate, and performs like he/she is painting a masterpiece. I couldn't be any more picky on barbers as I am very cautious on who works on my beard. After an extensive search with multiple barbers and Barber shops; I came across UWM and saw Jordans picture and his profile. I also searched up his reviews and took notice that there were a lot of outstanding reviews from everyone who was happy with his charismatic personality, good nature, warm hearted, and highly valued detailed perfection in his craft. Historically, it's a place for old guy clothes. I'm over 50, and the clothes were too old for me. They've started going with younger clothes, but they are not anything I'd wear. Most of the "young" clothes look like they should be worn by people with too much money on Martha's Vineyard or the East Hamptons. However, if I were purchasing a top quality suit, or bespoke shirts, this is the place I'd come. I've done both before, so they are not off my shopping list. I call it the "uniform", when its cold its a $25 long sleeve twill shirt, when its warm its a polo, tucked in no less, paired with a pair of dockers, and perhaps they stretch their imaginations with a olive pair to mix it up with the khaki once in awhile. I buy bespoke clothing all over the world, and I would put UWMC up against anybody. Truly personal service, the best tailors in the West, and a wonderful selection of shirts, shoes, suits, pants and slacks. The owners and operators are gracious, no pressure, and very respectable. They want you to become a customer for life. This is not a cheapo Mens Wearhouse, J Banks, you get what you pay for. What about Nordstroms you say? Well, the City Creek Nordstroms is limited on selection, and they don't have some of the top brands such as Eton or Brioni, but regardless, they don't have the personal attention to service, or the ability to truly make your clothes fit you. Brooks Brothers is a close second, but UWMC has a different variety, and you won't look like the latest law clerk or glad handler from the capitol when they have you properly outfitted. I have to give UWM at least three stars because they carry hands-down the finest men's wear in the state. Brioni, Kiton, etc. but I'm puzzled every time I go there. The salespeople seem to have been trained at Mr. Mac or one of those Vegas men's stores where you are stalked and shown a bunch of stuff you're not interested in. I'd been away for a couple of years so I wanted to check the store out, see who they are carrying. I walked in, spotted a sales guy and asked if I could explore for a few minutes on my own. It took him less than two minutes to approach me carrying a suit that I would never choose. I deflected and asked him about some very nice ties. He was knowledgeable and gave me good feedback. Then he grabbed the suit again. I said, "please don't do this to me. I would like to thoroughly browse your store before we get down to business." Less than five minutes later, another sales guy approached me with the same suit. I told him that 1)I'm not shopping for a suit, 2)if I were, it would not be that suit, and 3)I'd like to be left alone to look at brands and styles and such. He then went back and before I knew it, he was beelining me with another suit. I turned to leave and he and the other sales people all shouted "good bye." This isn't the first time I've had a similar experience at UWM. For this reason I've long since went to Las Vegas or larger cities when I want a great suit. I'm thinking these guys are trained this way and I know their product knowledge is impressive. Probably a good fit for someone just learning about really good men's clothes. Amazing is all I can say. I lost my job in February. My mom saw a news piece on Suited For Good, a program that Utah Woolen Mills Clothiers sponsored to get suites to people in the job search market. I went online and signed up for this program and, in March, got fitted for a new suit at the Temple Square store. The team could not have been more professional and nice through the process. I got my suit and shortly thereafter had a job interview in Dallas with a major telecommunications company. I wore the suite to the interview and ended up getting the job. Was the suite the reason I got the job? Probably not but knowing you are looking your best in a job interview sure helps your confidence. Thank you Woolen Mills. Don't be fooled by the name, there is no wool or knitting products at Utah Woolen Mills only the most amazing suits in SLC. I'm thankful for Taylor Hawkins' style tips. His personal style is much more modern and whimsical than my tastes, but he doesn't push that style on me. Taylor and Utah Woolen Mills helps me look my best. I bought a suit from them over 4 years ago and it gets worn 2-3 times a week and with my regular dry cleaning it still looks great. They have fantastic advice for you concerning the types of fabrics you are looking for depending on occupation and such. The prices reflect the quality of the merchandise. Worst customer service experience I've ever had! I was visiting from out of town and tried to return a gift that my brother had purchased on Christmas Eve for our 87-year-old mother. This store has a ridiculous and unheard of return policy of only fourteen days which, for a house-bound elderly woman living in rural Summit county, is the same as having a no return policy. I tried to explain the situation to the manager who was entirely unsympathetic. She said that "since they were a specialty store they had to stick to their fourteen-day policy." Certainly their specialty is not customer service which, for a small store that relies on word-of-mouth and customer referrals, must be a killer! I know that no one in our family will shop there or offer a good report about a store that cares so little about achieving and maintaining strong customer relationships. I suggest you go to Nordstrom - better quality, better selection and they even want you to come back! NO stars! read more
