During our visit, we were asked to take off our shoes and we actually loved that because 1) it's SO clean in the shop, 2) they also have the bride wear gloves to refrain from accidentally staining the dresses they try on. The level of professionalism at Malmrose was so refreshing. Bri knew exactly what my friend wanted and she found her a dress on the first dress try-on just by listening and seeing two pictures of dresses she tried on at other shops. She is a wizard and so good at what she does. Mary is behind the scenes and checked in on us multiple times. She also supported my bestfriend and Bri in the dresses that she tried on. They even shared a tender moment that just made me so happy to see. ALL the women in this shop care about what they do and we felt that. You have to wear these cute Lacey gloves to prevent the oils from touching the dresses. They let you wear a corsette and spanx that makes the dress easier to slip in and make you look snatched. As soon as I had THE DRESS on the sun shone through the window or maybe the lights changed but something about the lighting suddenly made me feel like I was in heaven wearing my dress. Further, I wanted to find a modest dress that I could wear to get sealed in a Temple, which is believed by my church to be a highly sacred House of God for those non-Mormon's out there. Well, after much searching I had at least made some solid decisions: No sequence, pearls, lace, or any embellishments. I wanted to focus on the quality of the fabric, lines, and construction of the dress, and I didn't want the integrity of these key elements to be compromised by gaudiness. I wanted pure silk. I wanted beautiful ruching. I wanted mermaid style, old hollywood elegance. And I wanted it all under $3,000. Preferably under $2,000. That's where Penny, the dressmaker behind "Penelope's" came in. She was referred to me by the same highly trusted source who recommended my photographer. Going to see Penny for the first time, I felt like I was Cinderella going to her fairy godmother with a pumpkin and some rats. I was sure I would get laughed at for my unrealistic desires, and talked into a standard, boring, mormon cut-out of a dress (read: t-shirt style short-sleeved top, puffy A-line skirt. Buttons down back. Long veil.) I was all but shaking. But that was not the case! Penny listened and took notes, and even presented me with a book of silk samples to choose from. She sketched out the dress with my direction, and then quoted me a price that almost took the wind out of me. I wanted to shout from the rooftops- "The Church is True!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" At most, there are only 3 customers in the store at a time to give you a more personalized experience. It's nice to have the attention of one employee and to not be surrounded by multiple girls also needing attention and dresses to try on. The associate will ask what your budget is up front and stick within that budget the entire time. I like that she even pulled dresses that were below my budget. The shop I went to before this one always gave me dresses that were either exactly my budget or just over it. I appreciated that aspect of this experience. Not only is this shop beautiful, but it offers so many dress options to choose from. The girl helping me was experienced with all the dresses offered in the shop and asked me specific questions of what I was looking for. When she came back from pulling dresses for me to try on, they were all exactly what I was envisioning and described. I tried on several dresses, but the one I bought really is "The Perfect Dress." I am so happy with my purchase and I can't wait to wear it on my wedding day! Why I didn't give it the full 5 stars: once I had told the girl I was buying my dress, her attitude changed from friendly to getting me out because she had "made her sale." Come to find out that the price for the seamstress to fix it was only a few hundred less then buying a brand new dress in my size. I wish I had done that. I know I could've made a different choice but I was dress shopping on my own at 20 and didn't really have anyone to go to for advice. I put all my trust into Bitsy. At my last fitting the seamstress let me know that the beaded pattern on the front would have to be cut up on one side. The pattern was supposed to be symmetrical. It ruined the whole dress for me. It did not even end up fitting me correctly, it wasn't snug enough on my breasts but too tight on my waist so my boobs were being pushed up and out in a weird and uncomfortable way. Luckily my hair was thick and to my butt so it covered it up. Then on my wedding day my strap broke during my ceremony. I had to change out of my dress for my dinner. Now I can't even sell or rent out the dress because it is so lopsided. I'm sad and frustrated that I ended up spending so much on something that was supposed to be so important to be. I would not recommend this shop after this experience.
