The administration is: - Secretive - Manipulative - Unavailable for parent or teacher feedback and communication. -Retaliatory - Willing to slander and destroy 'enemies'. It was mind bogglingly bad. Now that my son is a junior, and we've had time to really be involved, I'm dropping my review down to 3 stars. I assure you, This isn't due to being a bitter parent who's son hasn't gotten his way. As a matter of fact I'm very proud of my 4.0 student! My issue has to do with quite a few teachers, and their overwhelming lack of love for their jobs. Now I do understand (and sympathize) teachers tend to be overworked and underpaid, but having said that we have all known this for many years and this was their career path of choice. I'm hearing more and more (not only from my child, but other frustrated parents!), that teachers are heard telling students they are stupid and will never amount to anything. The students are teaching themselves in MANY classes! They're told to take notes from the book. Notes on what you ask? They aren't sure. While students do this (and god forbid ask for help. Ohhh no no!), teachers can be found surfing the web, on social media, or on YouTube claiming to be looking for a video for the next Days class. I am willing to bet my arm, that if we were allowed to look at a teachers daily computer/phone use we would be quite blown away! I'm only saying this after a couple YEARS of watching and listening. And don't get me started on the varsity football program. I hold a lot of respect for teachers and Coaches, but when you have adults sucking the love out of the game, you have an issue. When you have an entire group of boys (who Played football since they were 7 years old) wanting to quit right before their senior year? It's time To look at your head coach! Cleveland was the golden egg, just a few years ago, in my eyes. Now my eyes are open and frankly I'm pretty disgusted at the behavior of not just ONE teacher, but many. Someone needs to monitor what's going on, before more kids drop Out or quit sports programs because the people we entrust with our babies are Acting as bullies. read more

This is a hard review for me as all 3 of my duckies have now attended this amazing over the top school. My son was part of the first graduating class of 2011 and my younger duckie will be part of Class of 2019 (wow that so hard to even say!) It a wonderful, energetic environment to be a part of. Just about everything a student and parent could ask in a school! The highest of technologies at the fingertips of the students to excel in anything they can imagine, sports are above and beyond, such a large array of clubs there is bound to be something for every student to find things they enjoy, a diverse group of first-rate teachers helping our children to outshine other students throughout the state! Here is my only downfall I have with the school and why I cant honestly give it a 5-star rating: I have two-duckies who have been interested in the Culinary Arts Industry, both born to be Chefs/Pastry Chefs & Foodies and rightfully so, I am their mother, how could my amazing foodie genes not have been passed onto them :C)) :C)) V Sue Cleveland High School from the day it opened has not had a Culinary Arts program meshed into their educational programming within the walls of their compound. From what I understand when the school was in the beginning stages parents and administrators voted against a Culinary Arts program along with other trades they felt not deemed necessary for the future of CHS students. For those students that have this desire as a career path are allowed to take classes at CNM which in the long run is a wonderful program as it gives the students high school credit for their electives as well as college credits. My older duckie took advantage of this option and took the CNM Culinary Arts courses his JR and SR year. My younger duckie will do the same. This is great! The hard part is knowing our school/home is in BFE and having to drive back and forth to get them to and from classes in Albuquerque is a hassle and hard on the pocket book in gas, tuition, books, & Culinary Arts equipment that the school does not cover. If they had a system in place that could bus those students that take CNM/UNM courses that alone would probably play a big part in more students and parents making these choices. There are more courses students are allowed to take at each higher-education level its not just culinary arts. It is awesome that students can graduate with their complete list of high school credits but also having the option of adding college credit courses is a bonus! Hopefully one day these options will be a bit easier for parents as well :C) read more

This is the type of school that you have to get used to. However, once you get used to it, it is only that much easier to enjoy your time here at Cleveland. I have a 2014 and 2018 graduate from this school and now a freshmen and this is by far the best high school in NM. It isn't perfect, but nothing ever is. There are some amazing teachers and they also have amazing sports teams with coaches who care about the student, not just the athlete. read more

I have a couple of problems with this school. My boys have attended a few high schools in different states. I have never had the principal of the school not care about my student until this school. My son was given in school suspension because he had a detention he couldn't serve after school on Wednesday. The only other option was to pull him from class and have him serve then. First of all why would you pull a kid from instruction time? When my son talked to the principal about going back to class so he wouldn't miss instructions the principal said multiple times that he didn't care. He doesn't care to help the student? My child is a good kid. He got detention because he was working on a project in class and not vocab words. The substitute teacher gave him a referral. My husband went into the school to resolve the problem and the principal wouldn't even discuss it with him. So just be aware of this and the principals attitude. I'm so glad that we are almost done with this school. read more

Scott Affentranger needs to retire. Holding this position is taking a toll on him. The way he speaks to students and family members is inappropriate. He comes across as being racist and bias. He is willing to bend the rules for students in his circle and throws the book at others. Students and families feel the wrath once they speak out about this. The majority of the teachers are great but Scott is starting to lose respect from students and family. read more
