He would repeatedly tell me to call back, dodge my calls, tell me he's going to call back in an hour (he did not), and when I called back to follow up (expecting him to be professional and call when he SAYS he's going to call), he basically bit my head off and used the flaky excuse that "I get busy". (It had been 9 hours since he said he'd call back in an hour.) I have yet to have any of the 5 remaining lessons I am owed, and honestly, I don't intend to. He has been nothing but rude, unprofessional, and flaky since our first 2 lessons. I don't know what happened to make him flip so suddenly, but I am extremely displeased and offended by his conduct. I would not recommend him to anyone looking to get their license in the next year, as your schedule clearly does not matter to him.

She did really well in there with Ms. Trista. When it came time to transition to the toddler classroom 12-18m it went well except her main teacher ended up leaving after a few months. Ms. Amber ended up being the lead teacher. My daughter the older she got was then in a classroom next door for 18-24m. This teacher also ended up transferring to a different location. Once my daughter was in the 2 year classroom (willow) I believe she was finally stable with two teachers and did well. Sadly the location and a few things my husband and I noticed with the school have led us to move our daughter to a school nearby our home. Out of all the staff, I have personally noticed these teachers go above and beyond for my daughter. Ms. Trista, Ms. Rosa & her 2 year old teacher in Willow. I can't remember her name. I felt they genuinely took care of my daughter like she was their own. There were a few teachers I didn't care for. Sadly due to events that happened to my child. When she was in the infant room. My daughter would sometimes be dropped off in the classroom across from her actual class. Around Christmas time a few years ago my mother in law picked up my daughter and had sent me photos of her. Earlier that day, I received a call from the school saying that my 8/9 month old had a bloody nose when she was in this other classroom. From the photos my mother in law took my baby had a gash in her cheek from what it looks like a deep scratch! It was so deep in her skin, she currently is almost 3 years old and it's a scar on her face. I think maybe the teacher scratched her on accident with her long nails. Yet they wrote on the report it was a "bloody nose". Yet my baby had a deep scratch on her cheek. You work with children and babies for gods sake. Some of the girls and teachers here had talons for nails. I forgot the teachers name in charge of her at that time but the front office staff said she was basically here for over 20 years so she knows what she's doing. Which is ridiculous! There were other incidents too where my daughter got bit twice in two weeks in the first toddler classroom. Clearly someone may not have been paying attention to my daughter if she was getting bit. Once my daughter got to the 2 year old classroom her teacher had very old school traditions with the kids and taught them to be independent. My husband and I enjoyed her being in there. She was starting to thrive again and enjoy being dropped off at school. Overall once I noticed the front admin changes. Things started to go downhill which was when my daughter was in the first toddler classroom with Ms. Amber. The front staff was less and less approachable and I felt speaking to them or addressing an issue to them I was walking on eggshells at times or they would be having personal conversations and I'd be interrupting. There were issues I've noticed that a few teachers would be on their phones. One time I dropped off my daughter in Ms. Trista's class and I look across at the babies on the other side and I seen through the window the same lady who was there over 20+ years, was on her phone while an infant baby was hysterically crying in the crib in the room across from Elm. Mind it was the same teacher that I believe scratched my child with her long nails. I had addressed this issue to the front staff and just by her lengthy time at Montessori nothing was done and they said teachers can be on their phones updating procare. Ok, I get that. But this baby was in need of her attention at the moment and as a mother that was sad to see. Tending to that child was more important than being on her phone. Another instance I've noticed was Ms. Amber was always on her phone as well for drop off but over time she actually got better not always being on it. I get they need to send updates on Procare but they mostly do that if the kids are on their nap time. Overall, the staff has a very high turnover with the admin, front staff and teachers. I am not sure why the dynamic in the front admin changed but it feels very different now. Also, just because someone has been a teacher for over 20+ years doesn't always mean they enjoy their job. This day and age, the longer the people are working in a job they get invincible and think discipline wouldn't / shouldn't be given to them. She absolutely loves her teacher, as do we all, and shows visible glee in doing her assignments. Over the years I've seen her confidence blossom by leaps and bounds. The assignments are fun meaningful and often engage the family. Working on these science, reading, and math projects on a regular basis has been a definite bonding experience for us. I've been on a couple field trips and the kids in Krystal's class seem really nice and friendly. The parents are very open, volunteer and participate in many of the extracurricular fundraisers and activities. I feel a sense of community that we are all very invested in.

I went to that school from preschool (they called it k-4 when I was in it) all the way up until 8th grade. There were many different principals while I was there but my experience with one of them, Mrs. Cordova, was the most memorable and was my main reason for such a hateful review. She would often take advantage of the fact that I was not only stupid as a preteen, but that I was always the one being walked all over. She had been my 2nd grade teacher, and not long after became the principal. She tried to get me to be a mediator for a group of girls in my class that caused the most issues and were the main bullies in the school at the time. She also never suggested solutions or helped in any way when it came to academic problems. At the time, the math teacher was one of her close friends and she would, in fact, "play the devils advocate" whenever anyone said any sort of issue they had with the math teacher, including with her own son. Different children have different needs and some are more sensitive than others. It was not helpful or kind of her to always try and pin the blame on me for not understanding what the teacher was teaching. They would suggest tutoring but a middle schooler and a high schooler being put together for tutoring doesn't work well OFTEN. High schoolers can and DO get distracted easily, especially in an environment where they are not allowed to get distracted or talk much with their friends until lunchtime which was when tutoring was. This school was not helpful unless you were one of the really academically strong kids, and that was my issue. It also was not a very okay environment to be gay in, especially when it was covid and it felt like the world was ending. It was not a good experience for me overall, but I would like to apologize about the hateful and disrespectful review. It doesn't reflect the person that I am now. Please just be mindful of your children and remember, every sin is seen the same in God's eyes and we don't chastise or intimidate our children and relatives for eating bacon like we have gay people for being gay. Kumon makes him more of an independent learner, and lets him work at whatever level he is at. If he's lost or confused, there is help, he can go back, he can change direction of what he is studying with Kumon and then return to his problem area when he is ready. We have been there about 1.5 years. Susan Howell is the owner of the franchise and is not only a wonderful person, but is very hands on with what is going on. Most of the people working there are very good. We haven't had a problem except when my son was adjusting to the program - which took a few months. We have done both Math and Language Arts, and are currently only enrolled in Math due to time constraints. Susan is always willing to work with a family in whatever way will help the child, which is her main concern. When we arrive, the kids are usually focused, quiet, but generally happy. I don't see melt-downs or sad faces. I think that the crew is optimistic and positive in their interactions with the children, and it shows in their attitudes. Don't get me wrong - teaching discipline with young children is sort of an upward climb. But the folks at Mrs. Howell's Kumon treat discipline and good work with nothing but praise. I have not observed any problem or any hard sales of anything. I would say that the biggest problem we have encountered is with my son's giftedness, in that too much repetition is not really the best for most gifted children. However, Mrs. Howell is ready to accommodate to individualize the program for the child, and in our case, we are fortunate to benefit from her experiences as the mother of gifted children. Thank goodness we have a positive, educational choice with some truly professional people in Albuquerque!

The math program that APS adopted was not sufficient in developing numerical fluency, and Kumon has supplemented this need beautifully. My daughter is gifted in cognition and critical thinking, but her math calculation achievement test scores were average. I am so glad that my mother (a veteran teacher) suggested we start Kumon to scaffold her learning. She has managed to do well on curricular / district / state testing; and most importantly, she has confidence when solving math problems. On a personal note, Susan and her team are so very kind and patient with my family. Over the past three years, they have allowed us to go on hiatus while taking a long family trip, as well as cater how many pages we do a week depending how busy / hectic our lives are. Susan is extremely responsive to all my questions and emails. I am always saying how grateful we are to her! This evening my daughter had to stay late finishing up a test, and they couldn't have been kinder to us. I am so glad Albuquerque has this beneficial resource in our community.
