What a find! We finally found a hidden gem that we can recommend to our friends! Super authentic Marathi taste in the food. We ordered Puran poli, Classic & roasted vada oavs, Shrikhand thaali & Misal pav thali. Everything amazing. The service was super prompt and courteous. The restaurant itself is very clean and cozy. I liked how they have a wall of reviews in the hallway where folks can leave a review if they want. Nothing in your face. Now 5 stars ? Why you ask - is it michellin star level ? No. It is coz of the chance to taste nostalgia. The food was as if I was back in mumbai and eating in one of the popular spots here. It is that authentic and in a better way. Kudos to the chefs. And we are a family of foodies. The American born kids who only like certain spice combinations- my son is a fan of the vada pav with dry garlic chutney. To him the Vada burger is his most favorite burger / sandwich to eat. And this is a kid whose favorite food is pasta. ABCD I tell you. Also he liked the sweet hung yogurt - would have liked even more if the saffron and nuts were not added. As I heard this, I focused on gobbling my food and hurrying him out lest someone takes his unholy food critique seriously My request to the owners & chefs, please stay true to your roots and you have me as a regular here on every Vancouver visit.

Shrikhand Puri & Bhaji - Super authentic, strongly recommended

I was very skeptical about going here, because till date, every other Maharashtrian places I've tried in North America has been a disappointment. I was so glad to be proven wrong. We got the Vada Pav and the Sabudana Vada to start. Both dishes took me back to the streets of Pune where I grew up. They were authentic, flavorful and so well balanced. My only minor nit-pick was that the chutney that came with the sabudana vada wasn't fresh and smelled a tad bit sour. We then got the Shrikhand Puri & Bhaji plate. Every single thing on the plate reminded me of home. The batata bhaaji was especially outstanding. The shrikhand was a little less sweet that you'd expect but was fresh and clearly made in-house. The prices are a tad on the higher side, but the quality of the food and the service justify them imho. Very strongly recommended.

Fantastic authentic Maharashtrian restaurant in Vancouver serving nostalgic snacks like vada pav, sabudana vada, kothimbir vada etc. We devoured the vada pavs which was as close to Bombay as it can be but the pavs were disappointing (too thick). Their sabudana vadas which we took togo tasted delicious with all their chutneys. Service was great and I will stop by this place to quench my maharashtrian food cravings for sure.

Amazing food. This place was packed on a Friday night. We walked in and managed to get a table. But while we were there the flow of incoming customers was constant and at one point there was waiting list! That brings me to the main part. The food! Vada pav was the highlight here. They tasted like exactly what my Marathi mom would make or the ones you would find on the streets of Bombay. We literally had tears in our eyes to have tasted something so authentic! Misal pav was great too! Matki Misal pav is the authentic one and these guys nailed it. The shrikhand puri plate is fit for a king with generous portions of puri, shrikhand, batatyachi bhaji, varan bhaat!! Yummy. Pithla bhakri was average and I may not order again. The prices are a little higher than you would expect but in the end it's all worth it for the taste and nostalgia. Highly recommended. I'm still dreaming of that vada pav!

Authentic Maharashtran taste. Would highly recommend going here. Recommendations from menu would be Vada pav(must try) and misal pav.

When I realized that we wouldn't be able to visit India this year I had visit this place to relieve the homesickness. While mainland Vancouver has plenty of Indian food options there's less than a handful that have authentic Maharashtrian food. Vadapav Mirchi is a niche restaurant, with a comfortable ambience, and friendly owners. The first bite of Vada pav transported me back to the streets of Mumbai. It was pure bliss for me. We also had the misal pav, which comes with 4 pavs and plenty of misal. Nice flavors here as well! Yes, the items are pricey, for the authentic flavors we pay the price. Would definitely visit again.

    thank you steve

Update 6/24/23: Editing this post to add the details and pics of another dish that I had missed earlier - Pithla Bhakri (Pithla is Spicy Gram Flour Curry, and comes with Bhakri which is rustic bread made with Jowar (Sorghum - naturally gluten-free) or Bajra (Pearl Millet). Hands down one of the most earthy food items that I've had in a long, long time! I recently stumbled onto this niche restaurant in Metro Vancouver serving yummy food specific to Maharashtra (the capital city of which is Mumbai), one of the many states of India. And I'm so very glad to have discovered this hidden gem of a small business, especially when we were craving for this particular cuisine! In my opinion, the highlight of the Vadapav Mirchi menu is their namesake dish Vada Pav (spicy potato patty in a bun, a staple food especially in Mumbai) which tastes just like the OG) that is ubiquitous on the streets of Bombay! Also, highly recommend the earthy combo Pithla Bhakri (Pithla is Spicy Gram Flour Curry, and comes with Bhakri which is rustic bread made with Jowar (Sorghum - naturally gluten-free) or Bajra (Pearl Millet). Fell in love with all of their menu items, mainly the Vada Pav, Pithla Bhakri, Stuffed Egg Plant, Kaju Curry (cashew curry, albeit a bit spicier at times, so will be great if lesser chilli powder is used) , Poori Aloo Shrikhand (deep-fried, puffy and crispy bread + spiced potatoes + sweetened strained yogurt), and, another favorite of mine, Puranpoli (stuffed sweet flatbread). Yummy yum yum, to say the least! Needless to say, I can't wait to go back for more (actually just went back yesterday for a refill, for the 6th time in as many months of 2023)! So far we've only ordered delivery via Uber Eats, but thrilled to discover recently that they'll be open for dine-in soon at their New West restaurant! Looking forward to enjoying the desi ambiance, service, hospitality and food at the first Maharashtrian eatout in Canada!

While visiting Vancouver with my extended family after a long date of sightseeing, we all were craving some comfort food. Looking at multiple options for Indian restaurants, we decided to go to one of the more popular joints but got lost on the way. Lucky for us, Vadapav mirchi was pretty close by and so we all headed there with little to no expectations for what was waiting for us. As soon as we arrived, the ambiance felt very homey, It was very obvious that the restaurant was a labor of love project by the family with mom working in the kitchen, the daughter serving the orders and the father going over at each table and making sure patrons are getting their orders well. We were quite hungry, large group : all 20 of us. So it seems like we ordered pretty much everything on the menu. From Marathi thali, to thaalipeeth and zunka bhakari to their namesake dish, vadapav , we ordered a variety of food and prepared ourselves to wait a bit. But food came pretty quickly and oh boy, it just blew us away Everything we ordered was delicious and tasted like homemade food: a review specially noteworthy coming from all the marathi aunties of our group. The owner Mr Batule stopped by our tables to chat and we ended up chatting as if we were regulars. He also introduced us with his son and daughter in law who designed the layout and decorations of the restaurant. It was great meeting this whole family. What a joy they brought through the food. The quality of the food speaks for itself. The pictures here don't do enough justice!

Superb place. As a Maharashtrian myself I can surely say they do serve an authentic and excellent quality food. Please do try them. The food is super delicious and authentic. We had Misal pav, Nimu paani, Buttermilk, Thalipeeth and Sheer . All the items were spot on perfect! The service is awesome and overall a great vibe and excellent ambiance. We are definitely going to go again! Thanks Geeta

The food in the picture is very tasty then what it looks like . Every one must try

We were a big group of 12 including infant and toddler and they managed everything beautifully. Another big group of 10+ came in when we were leaving around 9+ pm. The place was not huge but they can do big groups. Reservations recommended. This was my second time trying East African/Indian food. I still didn't know much about it. R and I shared a choma (grilled) platter which had 3 types of meat, choice of carbs and raw vegs. The server recommended Chicken Serena which was grilled chicken with some sauce and herbs. This was my favorite dish. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The other two meats were the beef ribs (pretty good) and Mishkaki (skewer beef - a bit dry and hard). I love the masala potatoes which was the best thing on the platter. The raw vegs looked like coleslaw without any sauce. It was just a dab of sauce on the side. Not enough for the shredded vegs. I also had the masala chai which was very weak and very bland. Skip this tea. R tried the on tap beer - Baadshah Pilsner - a south Asian craft beer produced by Magic Malt Brewing in Langley. Interesting. Good to try for $5. There was also live music. It can get quite loud when they were singing. Nice patio out front and parking on street and in their lot.

Here's what we ordered and loved: Chilli Chicken - Deep-fried boneless chicken cooked with ginger and green peppers. It's like Chinese sweet and sour chicken but with a delicious spicy kick! Chana Puri - Two HUGE deep-fried wheat breads served with chickpeas, pickle, and salad. The chickpeas were so flavourful, and the puri was light and crispy. This is a must-order! Chicken Tikka Masala - Grilled chicken in a creamy, tomato-based sauce. Perfectly balanced and so comforting. Lamb Korma - Boneless lamb cooked in a rich white cashew nut sauce. The lamb was tender and full of flavour -- we loved the spice balance! Garlic Naan - Soft, perfectly cooked (not burnt!), and great texture. A must-have pairing with any curry. Every dish was so tasty that it was hard to pick a single winner of the night -- but if we had to choose, the Chana Puri and Lamb Korma were our top picks! The menu offers a great mix of classic favourites and unique regional dishes. Everything tasted authentic, fresh, and made with care. Tasty Planet is a small, casual restaurant located in a plaza at 6th Street & 10th Avenue (Highway 1A) -- right on the Burnaby/New Westminster boundary. It's a cozy spot, perfect for casual dining or takeout. We'll definitely be back -- or maybe we'll check out their other location on Fraser Street next time! Food: 5/5 Must Try! Service: 5/5 Kids: 2/5 A-OK for kids. (There are non-spicy foods available.) Presentation: 2/5 Parking: 1/5 (limited spots in front of the restaurant, but free street parking is available). Tips: * Can adjust the spice level. * Curry dishes come with free basmati rice. * Has over 120+ dishes to choose from. * Great for takeout and has a dine-in option. Would I Return: Yes ‍

Downloaded it, filled in my info to sign up. It didn't work. Tried again - same results. Ordered via Uber Eats. (2)My go-to is Chicken Tikka - no onions. I clicked on the Allergy tab for onions, however when it arrived my Chicken Tikka was COVERED with them!! it said 3 times on the receipt NO Onions /Allergy. This was completely ignored ! Despite scraping them all off and smothering a piece in Raita, my tongue is still tingling and swollen. (3)The Naan Bread was so dry, thin and over cooked it was the consistency of a burnt cracker. I tried soaking it in some water between paper towels and microwaving it, but it was so thin in many places it snapped. I'm used to Naan being thick and soft with some blackened edges. I like to put my chicken inside with Raita and eat it like a pita wrap. Not with this stuff ! (4)Nowhere on the website or Uber app does it say that the Butter Chicken comes with rice. So I order a side of rice for my husband. 3 containers of rice show up. Had I known it was already included (most places will tell you ) I would have saved the 6$. He didn't need 3 containers. (6)The free dish included when you spend 40$ was Papri Chaat . It was something I never heard of, but sounded good. I'm Sure it would have been if the wafers (Papri) wasn't It was completely soggy. (7) I also told them no Chutney as it would go to waste. They sent 3 containers .... The Good- It was quick from order to delivery. The Raita was delicious. Butter Chicken was enjoyed by my Husband. The flavour of the Chicken Tikka once all the onions were scraped off. Had they substituted cabbage for the onions it would've been really good. Thankfully Uber refunded me the 20$ for the Chicken. This wasn't a dislike - it was a safety issue For nearly 70$ this is unacceptable. *See photos
