Good all around. Family ran operation, the mom is the matriarch and the daughters and son in law Kosta also help run it. We were lucky enough to get a table with a great view of the Fraser River, which added to the whole vibe of the meal. The food was just as impressive as the view. We celebrated my husband's 65th birthday here .. everything was great!! Not only was the food delicious, but the service was fantastic! My friend and I were lucky enough to be helped by Simone - who was charming, delightful, and diligent! As someone with a food allergy, it's honestly a dream to have service that actually cares enough to ensure I am able to eat anything brought to the table. We ultimately ordered a bunch of sides - dips, meat skewers, pita, rice, salad, etc - and it was honestly so filling, but based on what we saw arriving at other tables, we pleasantly noticed portion sizes for main dishes were quite large! I ended up here on a Saturday night, without a reservation, and still got seated right away at a great table. Also, the view from Taverna Greka is is gorgeous! The restaurant got busy so make a reservation when visiting. I tried the roast lamb which was very tender. The potatoes it came with on the side was delicious but a little too much lemon for me. It's been several years since we last visited Taverna Greka; my how it's plummeted. Sure, it was a busy Friday night and we didn't have a reservation but our dismal experience started when our family of three was escorted to a huge table in a dark back room. The hostess tried to upsell us that we had so much space we could even lie down on the massive 1970s-era banquette but make no mistake, we were in the Gulag. The food wasn't any better. When it finally arrived -- after an interminable wait -- my cola beverage was flat, our son's chocolate milk was just milk with poorly-stirred syrup and the Greek potatoes were inexplicably nested in a pool of French's mustard. And it was all cold. Further, the tomatoes in the Greek salad were hard, unripe and tasteless; it's almost July, surely flavourful local tomatoes could -- and should -- be sourced. The whole experience was like that Seinfeld episode where Jerry's girlfriend looks great in nice light but awful in low light; the diners in the bright atrium area overlooking the Fraser appeared to be having a wonderful time, enjoying their meals and lively conversations while those of us sequestered to the Gulag were forced to endure a fourth-rate prison experience. read more

We were lucky to be able to experience this Greek Restaurant before the lockdown due to the health crisis. As you can see the view from our table is amazing and especially we had the luck to view the beautiful sunset! Food is fantastic! My Lamb Chop is cooked to perfection and very tender and juicy, the marination of lemon, garlic & olive oil further enhance the flavours! This authentic Greek restaurant has been an icon in New Westminster for ages. Located right on Columbia street, it's easy to find. Look for their name in bright blue lights. If you're celebrating a special occasion or have out of town visitors, reserve a table by the window. Here you will get a beautiful view of the Fraser River. They were busy on the weekend which took a little longer for our food to arrive. It was worth the wait. They had a 'features' menu and I highly recommend ordering the Tarama Dip which is red caviar served with pita bread. Unusual and tasty. We ordered the moussaka, vegetarian moussaka, roasted lamb, & lamb chops. All entrees came with rice, roast potatoes, Greek salad, pita & tzatziki. Everyone loved their selections. Another AMAZING meal at Taverna Geeks. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious. The only issue we had was for the first time they ran out of pita bread so instead of the soft fluffy pita we were served the thin pita bread it really is a small thing but one of the people we brought that is his favorite type of pita. I really can't find anything that I didn't enjoy on this visit! Came here with a girlfriend, on a crazy stormy night, was greeted by an elderly gentleman who was very sincere and welcoming and then seated straight away by the hostess. The view is spectacular even when it's blowing a gale! We had a nice view of the bridge and water. Server was prompt and took our drink orders straight away. The food is good old, delicious Greek food. I had the roast lamb, friend had the chicken skewer and both were thoroughly enjoyed. We shared a 1/2 litre of the Lindmans Shiraz and our meals came to just under $30 each. Superb! I'll be back when I have another hankering! read more

The Wife and I enjoyed Thanksgiving Day dinner at Taverna Greka instead of dry turkey and pumpkin pie and I'm not mad about it. The Soutzoukia were delicious little meatballs cooked in a tomato sauce that just begged for the pita to wipe it all up! Each plate also arrives with a well seasoned rice and a Greek salad. I am surprised that, their food quality, taste and services still good as usual, after pandemic.  I phoned them around 6:30 pm and made reservations for an hour after (7:30 pm) And requested for window seats. The lady told me, they will do her best, seem they are pretty booked. I was so glad, they made it.. We tried to order their chicken livers, Too bad they discontinued it. We used to order it everytime we go there. The chicken livers was crispy outside, Smooth and tasty inside.. We had tried... Lamb chop with rice, potato and Greek salad --- I asked for medium rare for lamb chop, but they gave me well done, but the lamb chop still taste good and soft, I had no complain about it. --- the rice still taste good as before, I can't stop eating it, after first bite, I totally ignored the lamb chop I started eating lamb chop, after I finished half dish of rice --- potatoes are soft, but too sour for me, But my hubby likes it. --- i didn't eat the Greek salad, because I don't like the taste of raw onions and olives. --- I gave 2 pieces of lamb chop for my hubby to try , I ate 2 pieces and 1 leftover, I can't even finish the whole thing, By the time I finished half dish of rice, I am half full already. --- I got half dish of rice, 1 piece of lamb chop and Greek salad leftover and pack to go. Greek style pork ribs --- whole rack of ribs with a lot of dried spice on it, it's crispy outside And tasty. Portion was too big for my hubby. --- my hubby finished most of it.. But got half rack of ribs left over.. Kalamari --- half size as before, but fresh hot and crispy. Pita bread --- hot and crispy.. it's so good --- my hubby can't stop eating it with red wine We also order a half liter of Lindemans shiraz,  Australian wine, --- When my husband sat down, he didn't plan to order a wine. Until he saw the price of the wine are way cheaper than chop steakhouse. Services are friendly and fast. Worth for me to pay them 18% tips Good food quality with nice view and good services. Love this Greek restaurant! I've been coming here for years and it's always so good. I've never tried anything I didn't like, but i usually end up getting the Spanakopita and Greek salad. The dinner portions are big, so I always end up bringing home leftovers. The atmosphere is really nice, I usually try to get one of the tables by the window overlooking the river. The Moussaka is superlative due to slow cooking, a melding of flavors, topped with fluffy and crisp bechamel sauce and cheese. Nothing is too salty. For dessert, indulge in hot Bougatsa, filo stuffed with cream and orange zest, dusted with cinnamon. The service has been consistently exemplary during our regular visits over many years. The view is extraordinary, even on a rainy day. From this perch, you can watch tug boats, barges, seal lions, and trains. Take care you don't forget to propose. Here's what I liked: -Food amazing. I had the chicken ribs combo and my friend had the garlic prawns. Absolutely wonderful -Cheap but good bottles of wine. I can certainly can recommend the $22 bottle of Hardys Riesling Gewurztraminer -The view of the Fraser River is amazing from the back. Here's what I see needs improvement -The Tzatziki sauce needs more cucumber or something to make it tangier. It tasted..off? -The candle holders need to be replaced with the round glassed ones as the wind from the open windows blows them out very easily. It was about 11 yrs since I was here last. Is it what I remembered? Umm, the memory isn't what it used to be. But I don't remember anything bad, and that was backed up by this visit. The only negative... the place was hotter than hell! It felt cooler walking out into the 30degree outdoors than it was in the restaurant. Service was fantastic... our server was charming and quick. Food... was tasty. I had lamb souvlaki, and the wife had prawn souvlaki. She had lots of prawns, and I had a good amount of lamb to fill me up. Heavy on rice, light on potatoes (that seems to be a Greek restaurant staple... I love those lemon potatoes... more please!). Drinks... it was hot. We had mojitos and they were tasty! I should have had another (again, really hot in the place). Will I go back again... yeah, sure. Will it be sooner than 11 yrs? I don't know... One thing that's really great about any restaurant along this stretch is that there is a really nice view. I'm always paranoid about landslides when it comes to places built on steep hills, but nothing happened today. Free parking is available a few blocks away. Or you can throw money away at the meters if it's before 2000. The restaurant is split into 2 major areas, joined by a long narrow corridor. It is this corridor where you get the money view. The staff were friendly. Special mention goes to the Volkan Greek beer. It has a touch of honey, and was very good! The lamb souvlaki I had was also quite delicious, though the chunks of meat were a bit on the tough side. Maybe they cooked it a bit too long. Flavour was good though. Can't really go with that. The night I went (Sunday), they had a belly dancer. She was friendly and talented, and maybe times have changed, but a few of my friends decided to hide in the corner away from her. I know she's just doing her job and it's all good fun, but not everyone likes to be bugged while eating. Overall a good experience, though that belly dancer may not be for everyone. read more

Awesome stuff. Went there without reservation but the staff manage to offer us seat with great view (with a time limit, but the extra distance to re-arrange that is appreciated). Food come in big portion. I find rice at other Greek resto are too greasy and does not find that here. Love the bread that comes before and with the meal. The meat was tender and juicy. Not a big fan of lamb 'scent' but that's just lamb in general. The one here taste good, i just don't like the 'scent'. Good food, great view, great atmosphere. read more

My 2nd visit to Taverna, why did I return? The great service and awesome food. Started off with their iced tea which is vary tasty. The sweetness was perfect and a flavor I could not distinguish. Ordered the roasted lamb with a side order of olives. Dinner was delicious. My server Aleksandra was awesome, very attentive, always smiling and very courteous. I would give this place 3.5 stars. The staff is great and the place and ambiance are very nice. However, the size of the portions leaves much to be desired. I was quite disappointed with the portion size of my roast lamb. It does not come on the bone and there are literally only a few pieces of meat on the plate. It was the smallest portion of roast lamb I've had from any restaurant. Although it was tasty, I would not order it again as it definitely was not worth it. It's unfortunate as the rice, potatoes, tzatziki, and Greek salad were good - but nothing to write home about. Good thing for the side of pita bread as I had to eat several pieces of that to fill up. We got the Ekmek for dessert and that was delicious. I highly recommend getting that. All in all, it was a bit of a letdown. Super happy and very nostalgic. I'm not sure if it's the same owners but I came to this place when I was 17 and I'm 35 now. Beautiful view of the river which they've cleaned up lots in the last 17 years. We were a half an hour early for our reso and were promptly seated anyways. The cute server was so friendly and attentive. We order the half pitcher of red sangria which was pretty good. The only disappointment would be the size of the appetizers. For $7.75 the mushroom plate was kind of small and for $10 the kalamari although great was sparse. The dinner was fantastic and well priced. Just like the previous reviews my gf loved her roast lamb dinner, and I throughly enjoyed my prawn dinner which came with 10 prawns. The liquor prices are extremely reasonable here and I think that it's smart to price point that way because people will drink more with reasonable prices. Not like the cactus club $18 glass of house white I had the other day. Here you can get a half litre for that. Four dollar ouzo shots whaaaat The belly dancing was a nice touch for the night.
