The lots a large and level with solid ground!! Yelp sent us to the other place first but it wasn't the way Pat explained her Park. Call her and she said that yelp took us to the wrong place. This is a very convenient camp ground to see many points of interest. There are full hookups and…read morenice drive thru pads. It is tucked behind a golf course. There are no trees around the trailer spots, but the surrounding area is beautiful forest. There are fire pits and picnic tables. We needed a part and had Amazon ship it to the office, and we were able to pick it up at 9 PM. There are 4 clean showers and a nice bathroom. The only recommendation I would give is to add a chair or seat in each shower. The entire campground is very well maintained.

This is a really high rating but the park was perfect for us…read more It's new and has gravel roads, no trees, but electric and water and sewer campsites. It's spacious and most sites are pull through. There are some tent sites back in the woods and along the river, very rural and pretty out there. There is no pool, playground or fenced in pet walk. What I really liked the most was the proximity to local bicycle trails located just off the park, making it easy to ride to Marquette and even Presque island. The Northern Michigan University public golf club is just outside the park. If conditions are right you have an unobstructed view of the Aurora borealis. I've seen many prettier parks but this was just right for our needs. Even though we had some rain the gravel sites didn't get muddy, big plus when traveling with dogs. Enjoy the amazing area, hike, bike, eat and enjoy nature... this park is a great place to set up and then go do the stuff you came here to do.

This state park's…read moremain attraction is Kitch-iti-Kipi and I find it to be a relatively small park outside of that freshwater spring. I can imagine that most people come here just to check out the spring as there is a separate entrance directly to the parking lot for Kitch-iti-Kipi. Granted, I didn't take the time to explore the rest of the park, but just looking at the map, I could tell there were one or two more trailers, but other than that not much else. We were camping at Indian Lake State Park, so after visiting Kitch-iti-Kipi, going out on the raft and back, we headed back to our campground to hike the trailers at Indian Lake State Park.

No noise from other campers, although the railroad runs a couple hundred feet behind the site. You hear the train rumble by, but they don't blow the whistle. Because it is shaded there is no grass, so it can get muddy when it rains. I didn't care for the fire rings they have there. They are too tall, about twice the hight of most. You can't really see the fire in the pit. They don't have a grill grate either so you can't use them for cooking. This is a nice campground, but does have a few drawbacks.

Pioneer Trail Park is not a place for Glampers, but it's a great place to park your trailer or tent…read moreto unwind a bit, stop for the night, or use as a home base for fishing, paddling, or hiking in the area. The grounds and most notably the shower facilities were very clean. The staff was friendly, and I had no noisy neighbors. I camped in the primitive section, as I didn't need water or electricity at the site, though the sites in the more developed section had those. That section was much more full than the primitive area where I was. For my site I paid just 15$ a night, less than some state or national forest campgrounds that don't have showers or flushing loos. My camp overlooked a side channel of the Escanaba River. A large marsh dividing that channel from the main flow gave me concerns about mosquitos, but I saw very few. The tradeoff for this is some ambient noise. The highway is nearby, and there are some industrial facilities in the area from which you can hear some rumbling and clanking throughout the day. Escanaba seems to have a lot of train traffic, since I don't think I went 5 minutes without hearing a train whistle somewhere in the distance. There is actually a track running directly along the primitive camping section, though only a couple of short trains went by on it while I was there. Not a place for solitude and silence, though there are plenty of those available in the UP. If you want a few more amenities and proximity to some city pleasures, this is a great place to stay.

I've camped and visited here for years, and it has always been a positive experience - except for…read morethis last week. The new hosts are aggressive and on some kind of power trip. We were there with our families and ready to relax over the holiday, however, the hosts threatened to have a camper towed because we put the money envelope in a different payment tube than they expected. There were no directions given about which tube to put it in, and they should have just asked us about it instead of flying at us with threats. They then returned and barreled back into our site (which was full of small children) in their golf cart, ejected from the vehicle and ran up to us because we paid $20 instead of $21. (The fees weren't even listed - and if more money was needed, simply ask.) Their behavior continued as they zoomed around the campground and reamed campers out all day long. I think they genuinely enjoyed yelling at people. Other campers complained to us about them as well. Also, the beach, which is usually one of my favorites, was a mess. It needed to be raked, and there were three different times that glass was found in the sand. Unfortunately, instead of relaxing, this trip was stressful. In fact, we left a day early.

camped here in mid june for 3 nights…read more first off location - right off lake michigan, maybe 50 feet. its so calming to here the light waves hit the shore at nighttime. for the most part there is tree line between the sites and the lake but there are benches throughout the site where you can view the lake - really nice for the sunrise and sunsets. the sites them self were quite large compared to the sites ive been to through the years. we were able to easily park a SUV, set up our tent, have a picnic bench, and a fire pit with no problem. another large vehicle and tent would have fit the site. a majority of the sites had campers parked at them. a majority of the sites contained electrical outlets - 20 and 30 amp receptacles the amenities were outstanding. the bathroom/shower area in the middle of the site appeared to be brand new or very recently renovated. the bathrooms were cleaned daily and the showers actually had hot water and private stalls with lockable doors. the site also had a volleyball beach court, teatherball, and basketball hoop near the beach. the rangers sold wood and ice and also had gear for the sporting events that could be used. i did not see a downside to this site. the nearest town was at least a 20-30 minute drive so we felt like we were away from life aside from the occassional semi truck that would speed down the nearest county road.

For some reason, they let tall weeds grow 5-6 feet at the lakefront.... Sitting down, you can hear the lake, but not see it very well. Not sure why....? Bring an extra extension electrical cord. Remember, no water hookups, so fill up on your way in. Site 33, does NOT have unobstructed view of the lake, as tenters set up directly between the lake and site 33. "Great" playground for the kids.... But the screaming gets old quickly! And take extra caution, because kids were "racing" alongside our vehicle on their bikes! And so, if you are coming for some quiet time.....don't. And, they installed some "bell/chime" for the kids.... Super annoying! The swimming beach is rocky by the shore. May want some water socks. Shower and toilet facilities are nice! Summary: Beautiful, well maintained park, but if you want a quiet retreat, go elsewhere.

Camped at Indian Lake State Park at the start of July and had a great time! This campground is…read morelovely and our specific campsite was incredible! We had our picnic table and fire pit up on the hill at the back half of our site, overlooking the water, and flat ground at the front where we could set up our tent. Absolutely loved it and would definitely book this same exact site probably again if I could in the future. There are a ton with a view overlooking the lake as well, but regardless of which campsite you get, you'll need to take the public access stairs down to the lake, stationed every few campsites throughout the campground. Great entry points for swimming, but not much of any beach space at these spots. The proximity of Indian Lake to Palms Book State Park was also a big reason why we reserved a campground here. Indian Lake SP is on the south side of the lake, while Palms Book SP is on the west side. Palms Book SP also is where Kitch-iti-kipi is, which is a Michigan gem that I have never visited...until now! The two state parks are under 15 minutes away from one another! Indian Lake SP also has a ton of access to the shoreline. The days we were camping didn't have the best weather, but there is plenty of access to the water to swim. There is not a lot of beach area, most areas we saw that were within the state park were 2-3 feet of beach max, so it isn't ideal for laying out. Plenty of boat launch sites as well! Other things to note: - The speed limit within the campground is 5 mph and strictly enforced. - Nearby town of Manistique for restaurants/stores/downtown shopping. - Also nearby, but more of a 30-45 minute drive is Fayette Historic State Park, which is a very unique state park to check out if your schedule allows. I wasn't able to make it out there, but it came highly recommended by a lot of UP friends!

Parking is limited, so we circled until someone left; bathrooms were more plentiful at the Miner's Castle than at National Lakeshore, but they did have some there as well. We loved the beach at the National Lakeshore; clean sand and the beautiful, Caribbean-like waters you expect from Lake Superior. Water is cold, but was so refreshing after a day of hiking and sun! Miner's Castle is a one and done spot for us, but we will definitely be back to the beach at the National Lakeshore!

You can view Miners Castle from an upper viewing deck and a lower one. The upper deck is only 250 feet away from the parking lot, the lower deck is about 1000 feet further and all downhill, meaning a pretty extensive uphill trek on your way back up that definitely gets the heart pumping. Both are highly worth it since the lower deck gets you literally a few feet away (you could say...a *stone's* throw away...heh) from the Miners Castle rock formation, which is very cool, but the best view - the classic view - is from the upper deck. Loved it! Very cool-looking bathroom set of buildings as well in the parking lot, alas they were closed so I wasn't able to see how they were inside haha.
