This center is near Lake Placid which has a USA Olympic Training Center. Another fully equipped rest area seems about 30 miles north. This explains a lot. Must be beautiful but isolating and serene here with the basics and minimal distractions. Also, not a lot of gas in mountainous Adirondacks and no gas at this rest area. I think I saw 1-3 stations on I-87 so far.

It is a mirror image of the northbound stop, with log cabin looks outside, and restrooms and vending machines inside. Minimalist approach, but stuck in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains. Can't do better than this on the East Coast unless you are in the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. Note - The North area was already on Yelp as I passed through, and I did not think to add the South area until returning home. It is there now, and my comments for the North are equally applicable for the South. I stopped both coming and going. It is in North Hudson, NY. Can't explain how Yelp got it as Manhattan??

Lots of space to sit and chill. I saw few people working remotely from the center. There are lots of information about Vermont's history, nature and tourism. They also offer free coffee. There are multiple restrooms, some in the front and others in the back. There are two vending machines, one for drinks and the other for snacks. The outside area is also very neat and clean. They have picnic tables in front of the parking spots.

Disinfectant smell throughout the place. The room we got had a tv with a non-working remote. The guy had no batteries and didn't care. Eventually he had me go with him room-to-room searching for a working remote. The bed sheets looked like they had been used. There were long black hairs on them. We asked for new sheets. Same problem. The manager said they were "clean hairs," and that the laundry can't remove all hair from the sheets. I've stayed in hundreds of hotels and motels - from Ritz Carltons and Four Seasons to Motel 6, Red Roof and yes, even other Super 8s - over the course of my life, and never have I seen hairs on the bedsheets, dirty, or "clean." My daughter, leery of staying at a Super 8, had purchased disposable sheets on Amazon. I told her I thought she was being a princess. As it turns out, she saved the day. If there is ever another total eclipse centered in Plattsburgh NY, we will stay elsewhere or sleep in the car.

The sheets were cleaned, and we were grateful for that. But everything else was dirty, gritty, moldy, and stained. I did not want to sit on the couch or touch anything made of fabric. Much of the shower curtain was moldy - although we were thankful for the curved rod that kept it from touching us. The tub had deep dirt stains and grime around the drain, such that we showered quickly so our feet would not soak in the stopped up water. The towels were (hopefully) clean but all very stained. There was dirt, grime and grit in corners of the room, in the handle of the mini fridge, in the corners around the sink. The carpets were full of stains. Just stay somewhere else.

The room we stayed in was very clean with a little view into the woods. Beds were comfy and the shower had good pressure. I did wish there were a desk or additional bedside tables as we quickly ran out of surface space to keep our things on. The only space available was one bedside table, a very small shelf with half of it taken by a lamp, and the top of the microwave. Nonetheless, it was a very pleasant stay and the breakfast offerings were great for those looking for a little sometime before hitting the road.

Additionally, there happened to be a fire in the middle of the night and because the smell of burning rubber and wires I requested a refund because the smell was so noxious I was literally unable to sleep. Not even to mention that you can hear people talking in their rooms from dowm the hallway and the whole place reeked of tobacco and marijuana. Overall the place honestly sucked. While asking for refund one man said they don't do refunds whatsoever until I asked a different lady who told me I'd need to contact a manager tomorrow.
