Dr. Valdez and her staff (Angel + Victor) are all supremely accommodating, kind, helpful and understanding-- I routinely forget to order more contacts in time and I have a very high prescription and absolutely hate wearing my glasses in public. Dr. Valdez has been so cool with making sure I don't wind up walking around blind and I couldn't be more grateful. Best optometrist I've ever had and her office is so cute. Dr. Valdez provided excellent service, and further suggested a newer brand of contacts to me. I also never felt pressured to buy anything else, which I really appreciated. Dr. Valdez and her whole team are just fantastic. How many people can say they actually enjoy going to the optometrist just because of how friendly they are?? Friendly, yet efficient staff. Dr. Valdez herself is always a total pleasure and answers any questions you have in a patient and kind manner. Front desk staff is always great and so helpful in deciphering insurance. Dealing with insurance benefits can always be a headache- so appreciate how helpful the whole team always is in getting everything together. Nice frames selection as well. Purchased my favorite Oliver Peoples frames ever here. Also carry Tom Ford, Paul Stuart, Fendi, Ray Ban and many other lines. I scheduled an appointment last week and unfortunately got super sick the day of my visit. I called to reschedule and the front desk asked me "to be sure to keep my appointment next week". I was confused by the request because I cancelled my appointment in an effort not to get the entire office sick. Seems like they were more concerned with billable claims tho. When I showed up for my appointment the following week, they couldn't find my insurance (with my insurer on the phone), and told me I would have to pay out of pocket to me seen. Given I'm fully insured, most offices will take a credit card in case insurance doesn't work, but will treat the patient. Here, they were more concerned with payment than patient care I do NOT recommend this office as it seems their focus is on payment and not on patient care. Would love to have more attention and care for patient services vs. being rudely told my insurance isn't valid (when it was very valid). read more

I wanted to write this so you could have some introspection on services and improve it for future else no one is going to turn in Your doctor is great and she takes care of patients so no comments there when it comes to showing the frame or making sure proper glasses are sent, here comes the whole problem. your process is completely inefficient. Even when I had already paid for the shipment, i had to call multiple times to get my glasses delivered. while delivering the glasses you made a mistake at your end but you asked me to pay again for shipment which was your mistake. I never thought in SF I would get such bad service and i really regret booking appointment. One of my glasses does not fit properly and now because of your subpar service i do not want to visit your optometry. I am not sure how long this can continue but I will request the doctor to improve the service if you really want to grow. I wanted to provide my genuine feedback for any future customer at your end. I came here a YEAR AGO. So this is an old review. She was okay. I would give her service a 3.5. I still would have came back. BUT her staff. HORRIBLE, at the time had Latin guy working for her it was his last day I believe I heard him say and he was a rude DIVA. I kindly ask for a copy of my Rx. And he told me I emailed it to you can screenshot it. After the lack of professionalism from her staff I knew I would never be back. I had a terrible experience with my appointment here. I felt like I was constantly trying to be upsold. When I mentioned I was getting my prescription to buy glasses, the optometrist proceeded to bash warby Parker and tried to sell me $400+ glasses through her as Warby Parker's glasses are apparently inferior. After I insisted I didn't want to purchase anything, and that I just wanted my exam that comes with my insurance, she quickly rushed through the exam while yawning throughout. I later visited another optometrist, and got different results. I'm assuming this is because she was tired and didn't care to put in any effort since I wasn't spending $500+. When I came back in to get my glasses prescription, she didn't even say hello when I walked in and talked with the front desk. Just sat there right next to the gentleman at the front. I guess since I wasn't a high roller I should expect second class treatment. I planned to buy contacts, but after the terrible treatment, I didn't want to give this location a dime. I came as this location was listed on my insurance provider, but definitely wish I'd selected a different optometrist. I would recommend going somewhere else if you are a new patient. read more

I heard about this place from my coworker. I booked my appointment and went through their registration process. They confirmed my appointment the day before then again called the day of to tell me that they must verify my insurance (which was already added to their registration form). Anyways, they were able to verify my insurance and I was told that all was good. Less than 2 hours to my appointment I received a text to let me know I should reschedule my appointment without giving any explanation. I was annoyed but went ahead and rescheduled for the following week. Again went through the email and the text the day of to confirm my appointment. Guess what? Same thing happened and I received a cold text asking me to reschedule without giving any reasons. Then when I replied back that I'll not reschedule and will go somewhere else, I got a response from the person responsible for scheduling to say that the dr was sick and had to go to the hospital. I tried to believe that but again was annoyed that my appointment was canceled 2 weeks in a row. However, I asked the person to let me know when the dr is back so I could schedule. They agreed to call and let me know when she's back. This was on on Oct 6th and I haven't heard back since. I'm writing this review to share my unpleasant experience with this place and to let everyone know. I don't recommend this place and I'm glad I haven't waited for them to call either. read more

I stopped into Valdez Optometry because after wearing glasses all my life (I'm 25, got glasses 20 years ago), I slept on my glasses for the first time since I was a teenager. They went bent and crooked and I needed them FIXED FAST. Then I searched on Yelp for anything near my office and then called. I couldn't go to my doctor so I didn't think anyone could help. I explained my problem and the woman on the phone was sweet and understanding. And said they can help but I just needed to sign a waiver. I went in today to get them unbent and they were SO NICE. It was like 5 minutes and my glasses are sitting on my nose just right. Thank you! Extremely unprofessional front desk service. I didn't get contacted when they moved my appointment without telling me and I came all the way to the store at my original appointent time. When I asked why they couldn't call me, one of the receptionists had the audacity to tell me it was because he was working on 4 things at the same time... (It was already an hour past their opening time, at 10:30am. This is no excuse.) Both receptionists did not even apologize for wasting my time. I called in later to cancel my future appointment because after what I just experienced, this place is not trustworthy or professional. As I grow more firmly planted into middle age, I must face a harsh reality: My once better-than-perfect vision is in decline. Doctor Valdez helps me do everything I can to keep my vision as tack-sharp as it used to be. She's super nice, and explains what's going on in an easy-to-understand manner. It's great to be her patient and it must be nice to work for her, too. From scheduling to help selecting frames, the staff is a joy to work with and environment is relaxed but professional. Staff is super friendly and professional. Frame selection is not huge, but there's lots of quality choices. They seem to be using the latest technology for the exam, which is important to me as a type 2 diabetic whose mother had glaucoma and macular degeneration. I haven't been to an optometrist in awhile and when I noticed that I couldn't read road signs I decided it was time for an eye exam. Dr. Valdez was very warm and my eye exam was very thorough. I couldn't decided which prescription I liked better ( higher rx on the right eye) so she sat with me and talked me through which one would be more beneficial for me. The whole staff was very welcoming and helpful. I wasn't planning on purchasing glasses but their office manager Angel was really an Angel. A sassy one. He saw me looking at glasses and picked out 3 pairs for me to try on. I loved all 3! They weren't pushy at all and gave me all my options. I ended up getting a pair of glasses and I love them. Dr. Tammy Nguyen is awesome! This was my first visit to Valdez Optometry and also my first visit to the "eye doctor" in San Francisco. She did a thorough review of my eyes, explained everything in very plain terms to me, and her bedside manner was beyond exceptional. Additionally, Dr. Nguyen gave me a week's worth of daily disposable lenses to try, and I liked them so much that I ended up buying a year's supply through her office. I have gone to Valdez several times over the past few years, and the appointment is always professional and quick. They let me try different contacts brands until I found the right one, and I never have issues with my prescription. Once, I couldn't pick up the contacts in person, so they delivered them to my apartment to make sure I got them in time.
